Any tips for optimizing photos for Flash?

I'm curious if anyone has any great tips for preparing photos
to be used in a Flash website.
I'm very familiar with Photoshop and I've designed many
non-Flash sites so I know the general approach for preparing photos
for the web. I've done a few Flash sites which are heavily image
based... no images galleries but just large photos used in the
layouts.
In the interest of keeping the file size down to a minimum,
I'm bringing the quality of my jpegs down to 45 or even 30 in
Photoshop (this usually makes them around 40K +- 10K each).
Needless to say, they lack the sharp quality of a good image when
brought down to this size.
Lately, I've seen some really great Flash sites that have
very large images in their layout The photos are very clear and the
site moves smoothly/quickly.
So, I guess my question is two-fold:
1) What can I do to maximize the quality of the photos
without compromising the speed of the site?
2) As a general rule, what is the range of quality for photos
brought from Photoshop into Flash? (jpeg, psd, gif?)
thanks for any insight!

Is this typical?
I just exported a background image of bricks (which needs to
look pretty
clear) and the export on my jpg was 61KB, my png export was
361KB.
Should I use the *.png anyway? It doesn't look, to me, like
there's much
difference between the two.
I don't expect to have the site scaling -should be pretty
static.
TIA,
Jon

  • Changing Storage Location for Optimized Photos?

Is it Possible to change the storage location for optimized photos...-- takes up a lot of space on my primary drive-- i'd like to put it on the secondary with the photos.

    When you say:
We have activated authorization check at storage location level using authorization object 'M_MSEG_LGO'.
Does it mean that you are just using the object - M_MSEG_LGO in the authorizations or does it mean you have activated the authorization check at SLoc level in config along with the usage of auth. object(please note, they are 2 different things).
The goods movement is part of the MM-IM component & this is used in MM, PP etc. So the object M_MSEG_LGO is checked whenever goods movement are posted, provided the config has been activated.
To be sure, check in table T001L whether the field XBLGO has a X for the SLoc where you require this control.

  • Is Apple working on a fix for editing photos for wallpaper, call contacts with photo, etc? The iPhone used to be so intuitive for everything but that tanked with the ios7 upgrade

iPhone 5 was so intuitive before the update. Editing photos has changed for the worst-any word of a fix for editing photos for wallpaper? Not a work around, a fix. If I wanted this kind of photo editing I'd still be using my droid x.
Anyway to go back to ios6?

    How would we know?
What's broken that you think needs to be fixed?

  • Any tips on good EQ for live drums?

I've just recorded some live drums for a demo, and I've been tweaking the graphic EQ to improve the snare and make the kick drum punchier. Anyone got some good advice on the curve of the EQ for snare and kick drum? I've already added some compression and so far it sounds great, but any tips for further improvement gratefully received!

He recommends boosting snare around 120-240Hz...
I have found shelving the snare, 10db or so around 100Hz works good too. Also helps with OH's and room.

  • FCP Sequence compression / format for editing photos for a HD Plasma screen

    Hello Forum
I'm editing a 10 minute documentary that's mostly based on graphics and photographs, and a voiceover. There's maybe 30 seconds of HD Video in it (Sony EX1 Camera). (But I assume the video will be convertable into any format anyway.)
The final film will be screened on an 1920x1080 HD Screen.
What sequence preset should I use? I don't see any 1920x1080 in my final cut pro 5.2.
I'm somewhat new to the world of HD. Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Cheers,
    sk

Thank you for all your replies.
You guys are right. Sorry it's 5.1.4...
Let's assume there's no video involved. What would be a good format workflow for a 10 minute film containing audio, graphics and photos only (72dpi jpgs and tiff files)?
I will receive low res / temp photos for a rough cut. And then high res photos for the final cut.
I would like to edit offline with a timeline setting that allows me to pan and zoom in/out of photos without much rendering, a fast compression. And then once the cut is approved another setting that allows me to uprez to a higher compression with little effort.
My setup: Mac Pro (2009) with 3 gigs of RAM (thinking of upgrading to 6) and 512 megs graphics card.
    Any advice is much appreciated.
    Thank you

  • App for taking photo for contact

I would like to use iPhone 4 taking a photo with new friend and put it into contact. I am wondering if there is any app to make the whole process simpler. Thanks!

Sorry, I believe I did not clearly describe the issue. The current method is quite simple and I love it. So far, I have not added any photo in my contact yet but want to do so from now on. It is very useful for some friends who meet once a year or two years. The camera captures 5m photo but for such small photo. It should scale down the size in order to save the file size. Currently, I have over 700 contacts in the database. If I put photo in contact, I am unsure if it will impact the performance of the phone and occupies huge space. The other issue is to crop the head only for such small space provided for the photo in contact. Of course, I can do it manually but take time and is inconvenient. If there is an app that can have a small frame for the photo space in contact, that would be great.

  • Any way of tagging photos for deletion on iPad?

Hello all! My first message here, but Google constantly turns up these pages for results, so I have read quite a bit! My question has to do with iPad and photo management. Basically, I just got a DSLR camera, and I have been taking tons and tons of photos. With my iPad, I would LOVE to be able to do the first round of sorting on the iPad so that I could easily do it in bed or sitting around the house. The editing and whatnot, I am OK with doing that on the computer.
From what I have read, the iPhoto App doesn't support syncing between the two very well, and I know that when you sync from iPhoto you don't have an option to delete unless you unsync them. So I am hoping that someone might know a way to possibly tag a photo, or make some designation that will sync back to the computer, so that I can flip through the thousands of photos...and tag them "delete" or something like that, then can jump on the computer after I sync and just delete all photos with the keyword.
I don't have iPhone for iOS yet, but the reveiws seem to say its pretty much a standalone product, but I am certainly willing to pay for it or any other app that would allow the functionality I am describing. I believe since my Aperture uses the iPhoto Album, I should be able to do anything in there as well once I have made the tags (or edits) on the iPad.
Thanks so much for any feedback!

No.  If the phone won't start and function, there's no way to backup or sync the photos (or any data).
There are forensic methods that involve disasembling the phone.  If you're being investigated by the sercret police or goverment officials, you might ask them to save your pictures as a favor before executing you (just a thought).

  • Is there any editing capability in photo for the iPad?

Is there any way to use just the iPad and Photos to edit or create a new album, or select photos from the entire library to make a smaller slide show?

No. You need a third party app. PhotoPad by ZAGG is a free photo editor and it really has nice features for a freebie. There are apps for sorting into folders as well PhotoSort for iPad is one but I cannot testify to it's usefulness and it's features since I do not have it.
When iOS 5 arrives in the fall, photo editing and album creation is supposed to be an new included feature.

  • Optimized photos for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS

I have an iPhone 4 but my wife still has the 3GS. I'm thinking (hoping) that when I sync my photos to the new iPhone 4, they will be better resolution to take advantage of the nicer screen (syncing right now, and all the pictures are being "optimized" as we speak).
My question is, will there be two copies of the optimized pictures, higher res for the iPhone 4 and lower res for the 3GS? Or is my thinking on this all wrong?

Not sure what has changed, but Apple has never supported connecting an iPhone to a USB hub - powered or not.

  • Tips on preparing photos for digitizing

I plan on digitizing some photos and then stitching them out using 3D embroidery software.  I have experimented with this before and I want to minimize or control the amount of colors in the original picture before I take it into the 3D software because once there I have little control.  Any expert advice on adjusting a photo and simplifying the variances of colors?  Thanks

You could always use Save for Web and select the GIF option.
Then you can specify the number of colours in the palette.

  • Different source for the photos for the calendar

    Hi
One of those year end panic moments at the office..
Trying to import photos into a new Calendar that I need to take to press tomorrow..
I can not figure out how to change the source of the iPhoto to import photos to the Calendar, example I brought in some new photos. they are in the Last Import, How do I get those in to the calendar?
    I so appreciate any help..

    Stan,
If I understand your question correctly, it is not possible to transfer photos from iPhoto to iCal.
There is a "Calendar" button on the bottom of the iPhoto window, but that only provides an avenue for you to purchase an Apple calendar which you have designed using your own photos.
If that is indeed what you are trying to accomplish...
    1. Click on "Last Import."
    2. Select (Click) on the photos you desire to import.
    3. Drag them to the Projects>CalendarName Folder which you are creating.
    ;~)

  • Trying to get URL for my photos for Mac 10.9.3

Have never been able to get a URL for one of my photos. How do I do that? Do I need to download a program to do so?  (I am a participant at FSM Film Score Monthly, and wanted to post some of my photos there.) Thanks.

    Looking now
The site here is making answering this very difficult
OK made an account and looked at the instructions for posting. As andy surmised the image you want to have in your post at that site must already be on the web somewhere.
You could try one of the links andy posted, photobucket might be the easiest for a new user to use\
Once you have an account there and you upload your images you can post them to the FSM site
    by using the code
    [iimg]URL from photo bucket[/img]
OK finally got that all posted, good luck
    regards

  • Resolution for Still Photos for film

    Greetings,
I have a full length Digital Video film and want to add still photos to it. I have been using Photo to Movie software to add a Ken Burns effect to the photo, then exporting it under the movie format- DV(NTSC) 720x480, then importing that to the final cut time line. My question is what is the best resolution in the first place for the still photo before I do this process or is it okay to use the final render size from the Photo to Movie export? Or do you have a better idea.

I would suggest you to check your export preferences but it is my understanding that if you render the movie file, and then export, it you should be able to set the QT option for NTSC DV.

  • Recommended size for imported photos for New Ipad

The recimmendation for Ipad One and Two was 2048 x but with increased resolution I can't find any recommendations for increasing size to take advantage of the new resolution,   Is anyone aware definitively what Apple recommends??

Thanks.  The second link confirmed what I suspected.  I mistyped the original size which had been recommended as 2304 x 1536 for the 1028 x resolution of Ipad One (which I had/have).  We all knew that the Ipad resized on import but what I'm seeing now with my Ipad Three is if I don't resize my large files they zoom in on double tap much farther than if I actually resize to 2304 x implying that a different size is possible.  Even knowing the Ipad may resize I much prefer to resize to optimum coming from Lightroom before import.  When I import with CC I import a large RAW file and usually jpeg.  I'm guessing the Ipad still uses the embedded jpeg in RAW unless you include the jpeg.  No definitive info on this but best guesses.
Thanks. I didn't find those threads when searching--not a good search I guess LOL.
