Any tips on applying the supplied screen protector

On youtube, I've seen rollers (don't have one), lining up from the top, lining up from the side edge.Positioning with the back not peeled and then taping one side so it hinges. I suppose the first question, is it worth using the supplied one, and will it later peel off without taking the ASF with it! - that's really the key with protectors, they are sacrificial.

Hi Mattz,
Welcome to the community,
The removal of a simple Screen protector would not likely remove the ASF, as the ASF is essentially apart of the screen, so removing this is very very hard.

Any suggestions out there as to the best screen protector?

    LOLOLOL!
    OK. Let me try AGAIN.
I have no special ownership of the truth and may be wrong about this. However, I'm simply sharing my opinion that everything I've seen and read suggests that plastic screen protectors for the iPhone are a racket.
For one, you are putting something on a beautiful screen that makes it less beautiful. And why are you doing this? Presumably to protect it. The equation is make it less beautiful for the sake of added protection to keep it more beautiful but for when? For those brief moments when you take one protector off and put on another? But the protectors themselves are universally weaker than the screen itself so I wonder how protective they really are. How much is the compromised surface worth the "protection" (not to mention cost)? The screen is hard glass, the protectors are weak plastic. The end result is you have an iPhone with a scratchable plastic protector on it that makes it uglier instead of a clean flat hard beautiful glass surface.
It just makes no sense to me. Except that coming from a tradition of plastic screens on previous devices, perhaps there is a "legacy urge" to get a screen protector. Or maybe people just like putting plastic sheets on their glass iPhone.
Here's my experience. I have an iPhone and no plastic screen protector. I don't dote over the iPhone. I fling it around and stick it into various pockets. It has no scratches. I also enjoy the naked glass screen with no oogy plastic covering like grandma's slipcover over her couch that makes your thighs squeak whenever you sit on it.
If after years of use I get a scratch on the glass screen, that's less bad than years of plastic protectors and years of scratched use because the plastic protectors will of course get scratched multiple times. They're plastic.
At the same time, figure in an aggressive third party market that exploits opportunities to sell accessories - needed and un-needed. So if you discount the marketing and "legacy urge," why do I need this thing???
The Crystal Support screen protector is great...and it's fairly cheap as well. Unlike others that "get off" on trying to beat people down with their opinions...I'll simple tell you that it works for me. You might like to try it...then again...what do I know? I'm not gunna shove what works for me down your throat like others on this board.

If that makes you happy, great! I'm not shoving my opinion down anyone's throat, only sharing an opinion that may differ from yours. Let's say, for example, the question was "now that I've gotten an iphone, what kind of instant mashed potatoes should I smear all over it to protect it?" I would have the same response. I just don't get the appeal, although maybe there are people out there who feel more comfortable smearing instant mashed potatoes all over their phones.
The "Emperor's wearing no clothes" was only one person's opinion too, you know...

  • Any tips for using the battery ? T500

Are there any tips to use the battery for a long time ?
I've seen the posts somewhere that "conditioning" is not needed for this battery, Li-on based ?
Is recharging when the battery is half-charged a bad habit ?
    Thanks

    Hello shong9,
First you should load your battery 36h, then unload it normally, till it will go to sleep or hibernate
(depends on setting in power manager).
Second load it 24, then unload it normally till it went to sleep or hibernate.
Third and last, load it 12h, then unload it normally till it went to sleep or hibernate.
Then you battery has got it´s full capacity and the powermanger will do all for you, to keep it healthy.
You should leave the battery in your machine, if using AC.
When you are working mobile, then charge it, when it´s necessary.
    That´s it.

  • Does anyone know if the new iPad fits the Powersupport screen protector for the iPad 2? And if so, where can I get it installed?

Hey, I was just wondering because I am purchasing my New iPad on Sunday! So excited! But I want to order a screen protector before I go and purchase it. I heard you could get screen protectors installed at Best Buy, but I'm not sure!! Please help!

I just got the powersupport crystal fil for the iPad2 and installed it on my new iPad (3rd gen). It fits perfectly and so far it doesn't affect anything (proximity, portrait/landscape rotation). in my opinion it's the best screen protector for the iPhone so naturally I thought i'd give it a go on the iPad (no adhesive, easy install, great quality etc). One note though, I'm not sure if the anti-glare one would work well on the new iPad with the retina display. I know the iPhone 4 uses a different one than the 3GS. Oh and Best Buy doesn't sell the powersupport.

Is it safe to apply a invisible sheild screen protector with the liquid provided? I'm worried it will cause liquid damage to my 4s

Avoid the dock connector and the headphone port. That's where the water sensors are located. Just apply a very small amount of liquid for the InvisiShield or whatever it is.

  • IPhone 5 screen not responding, lock button doesn't work- Any tips to reset the phone?

My iphone 5 screen just stopped responding to any touch stimuli. The home button works, and Siri works, but I cannot use the screen at all. Also, my lock button hasn't worked in a few months, so I've been using Assistive Touch to lock and power down my phone. I was hoping to try to reset my phone (home+lock) and see if that helped the screen issue, but I can't find a way to power down. Any tips? Should I restore the phone with iTunes? Or is this the end of the line for my phone? Thanks in advance!

You can log into iCloud on the computer and remove the device there and then restore. However, with a non-functioning sleep/wake button, you do have an issue. Believe me, you wouldn't want Siri to be able to do that, or we would be reading complaints about phones being stolen and restored again. The fact you cannot restore now is part of the anti-theft restore feature. You can either try to get the button fixed, I hope you checked to see if your device was part of the recall group, and you can let the battery die and then plug the device into the charger and it should restart. But since the sleep/wake button is integral to many of the user troubleshooting steps, I suggest getting it fixed as well.

  • Does the Dynex screen protector have an orange peel effect on the iPad 2 screen?

Noticed one of these screen protectors going for $5 CAD at Futureshop. From what I've seen, that is very cheap for a screen protector. Does anyone have experience with these? Any qualms? If it's decent and it isn't going to leave annoying residue on my screen, why not? Thanks in advance, guys.

Today I installed on my iPad 2 a Dynex Screen-Protector bought at Future Shop for $5. The surface of the protector is smooth as glass (no "orange peel" effect). That and the price are on the plus side. On the negative side, the bubble problem is severe. According to numerous YouTube videos, this is common to all static-cling protectors. Pure air bubbles are easily pushed out. But bubbles over dust particles or tiny fibres are difficult. Even using the Scotch Tape method, you no sooner get rid of one dust mote, than ten more settle on the screen. Bottom line: The iPad screen is too large for static-cling protectors. The very design which makes the plastic film cling nicely to the screen, also makes dust cling through static electricity. Expect bubble-removal to be time-consuming unless you are very experienced, or have access to an Industrial Clean Room. I did not try to make mine perfect, as it is only temporary until I can order a Moshi iVisor or similar product.

  • I can't get the plastic screen protector to stick. What am I doing wrong?

I bought the accessory kit with my new iPhone 4S yesterday. It contains four clear plastic screen protectors. I tried to put one on following the very minimal instructions "Remove this mask before application completed," and "Remove this mask after application completed." When I remove the "second mask" it appears the protector did not stick to the phone but seems to still be part of the second mask I removed. Are the little red broken lines supposed to remain on the phone? Am I supposed to wet it or something?

Maybe you did it opposite from the instructions? I'm not sure as I don't have the kit. I would check youtube for a video....it's a great resource for specific things like this. good luck!

  • Is there any way to disable the lock screen with out the screen staying on?

I know there is away to disable the pass lock but is there a way to disable the screen from locking every time the screen goes off? cause it's so much easier to just press the answer button than to slide it to unlock. phone versions iPhone 4s and iPhone 5c.

You're confusing a direct answer with a rude one.  Wjosten's reply wasn't rude.  It was accurate and direct, without any sugercoating.  You can't get the device to operate the way that you want (lock the screen, but not really 'lock' the screen).  It's not a 'screensaver' like on your computer.  It's a lock screen, designed to prevent accidental activation of the device screen, and possibly launching apps, making phone calls, etcetera.
If you want an option added that allows the device to do what you want, tell Apple.

Direct, accurate information.  That's what wjosten provided.

  • Does dust under the iphone screen protector cause problems for the retina?

I dont have bubbles under the protector but if I reflect the screen under light I can see tiny dust particles under the protector, they are small white dots. So will this cause issues for the screen and is it worth removing the screen protector itself to fix or will it do nothing to the resolution of the phone?

will this cause issues for the screen
    No
will it do nothing to the resolution of the phone?
    no

  • I am trying to switch laptops with my mom, and successfully wiped mine and restored it, but now her password won't allow her into my computer, even though it says it's her account. Is there any way to bypass the password screen?

I am trying to switch laptops with my mom, and successfully wiped mine and restored it, but now the password that she used on her computer isn't working on this computer. Is there any logical reason why the two passwords would be different, if I restored her information from a Time Machine backup? Aditionally, Is there a way to bypass the password page on startup to make a password that my mom knows?

If Disk Warrior does not work you can try the following steps (but they may not work if the disk has a hardware error).
Get the disk (DVD or CD) that came with the system (since you have it listed as 10.6.8).  If it is 10.7 or 10.8 use the Recovery partition to boot from or the USB installer if you have that option.
Insert the disk then power down
HOLDING the C key, power up to boot from the disc.
    Get to Disk Utility
If Disk Utility will now show your hard drive, use DU to REPAIR the disk.
When it completes the Repair process successfully as indicated in DU, do a shut down.  If Repair is not successful then an different course of action is indicated below.
Then HOLDING THE APPLE (or Command key depending on your keyboard) KEY AND THE OPTION KEY AND THE LETTER P AND R KEYS, continue hiolding them until you hear the chime tone for the THIRD time then release all four keys.
If REPAIR is not successful, use the Install disc as a boot and REINSTALL THE OS X OPERATING SYSTEM  DO NOT ERASE THE DISK OR VOLUME FIRST.  REPEAT DO NOT erase the disk or volume before trying to reinstall the OS X operating system.  After re-installing the OS do a software update.  Note that ERASING the disk is NOT required to do an OS re-install.  This allows your existing data and application files to remain.
If that fails then you are down to the "bitter end" of erasing the volume and reinstalling the OS and then all the other software.
If erasing the Volume fails then your last hope is to completely erase the entire hard drive, repartion the disk  and try a re-install.
If that fasils then you may have a defective hard disk.

  • Is there any way to stop the print screen from dropping down on top of the page to be printed.  Can the print screen be moved?

Is there a way to stop the print screen from dropping down on top of the page to be printed.  Can the print screen be moved?  When the print screen drops down, it covers the page and the info needed to create the file.  Thank you

You will find that this is application dependent.  Most Apple applications such as Safari and Mail will use the "sheet" type of dialog boxes that you are referring.  There is no way for the user to change that behavior.  Other, non-Apple, applications like Firefox use a "modal" dialog box for printing etc.  The modal boxes can be moved around so you can see the page behind.
