Any tips on getting power management/sleep working on an Ideapad y460 (0633)?

Hi All,
I've decied to try and put Windows 8 on a new SSD and try using it in my Idepad y460 (0633).
I've actually gotten most all of the drivers to work, including the AMD switchable graphics (by running that installer in Win7 compatibility mode).
However, I cannot get sleep to work properly. If not a crash, I experience random messages about services not running when I wake from sleep (i.e. audio service isn't running, network card is listed as 'unavailable', etc.) that require a restart to fix. I've tried running the power management driver listed for my model (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS007793) in Win7 compatibility mode, but all it does is slow down my login, and make windows complain about known compatibility issues. Doesn't fix sleep. I've tried the Lenovo Power Managment for Windows 8 (http://support.lenovo.com/en_GR/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS030850), even though my device wasn't listed. It installs okay, but doesn't fix sleep issues, and the touch buttons still don't work.
For now, I've decided that "Do nothing" on lid close, while "Hibernate" for power button is fast enough and convenient, as those options work just fine. However, I would like sleep to be able to work.
I understand Windows 8 is not actually released yet, but I was wondering if anyone had tried this and found success, as this is the only problem I have left preventing me from using Windows 8 comfortably.
Thanks for any tips,
- Chase

  • Since backing up my iPad air and installing IOS 8.1.2 the screen doesn't move between landscape or portrait when I turn it. Any tips for getting it to do so?

Since backing up my iPad air and installing IOS 8.1.2 the screen only shows the portrait view and won't change to landscape view when I turn the device. Any tips for getting back both views?

If you see a lock icon in the upper right corner of the screen - then the screen orientation is locked.
Try the side switch above the volume rocker first and see if that unlocks the screen. If that didn't work, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to the control center and the lock icon is in the row of icons at the top all the way to the right.
If the screen is unlocked but still will not rotate, reset the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the button

  • Any tips that might make auto brightness work?

The auto brightness on my iPad Mini (iOS 7.0.4) does not work. I have tried everything. Resetting all settings to resetting network settings does not work for me. Any tips that might make auto brightness work?

Auto brightness will not darken your screen when you enter a dark place until you lock/unlock the screen. If it did the screen would darken everytime something covered the light sensor (which is opposite the home button on the top of the screen next to the front camera).
Autobrightness will automatically raise the brightness of the screen (slowly) when the ambient light brightens.

  • Can't get R&R or Power Manager to work under upgraded Win7 on X61

I recently upgraded my X61 from Win Vista Business to Win7 Pro. While doing so I installed the new and supposedly Windows 7 compatible versions of R&R and Power Manager. However, I can't seem to get either to work - I can't even start the applications. Both immediately crash and tell me that "Lenovo Application has stopped working" (R&R) and "Power Manager has stopped working." I do get the power gauge in the task bar, but I cannot click it (same error/crash).
I followed the instructions and have therefore updated all the applicable drivers etc, e.g. the new version of CSS for R&R and the Power Management Driver for Power Manager, but it still doesn't work. I've also tried reinstalling (both uninstall followed by install and repair/reinstall). Does anybody know what's going on? What could be wrong?
Is anybody else experiencing the same [kind of] problem? Are there any solutions?
    Thanks!

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I believe I've found the reason for the problem I had with both R&R and the Power Manager (also discussed here): I did not have .NET framework 3.5.1 SP 1 installed. It is obviously disabled by default on Win7, so one will have to enable it through Control Panel -> Uninstall a program -> Turn Windows features on or off (and then make sure to check the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 check box).
The strange thing is that I have not found the information that .NET framework is required anywhere - Lenovo obviously didn't think of supplying it. I just happened to find the solution when installing the upgrade for the Lenovo Toolbox, which could not be finished without first installing the framework (and the Toolbox installation program told me this was required).
So make sure you have the .NET framework enabled if you want to run a bunch of the ThinkVantage applications!

  • SCCM 2012 - Power Management Not Working (PC's wont sleep)

    Hi,
I have a Device Collection to test Power Management policy on some desktops. The power management policy has been configured on the device collection to sleep a machine after 20 mins at 6pm.  Have configured the Client Settings to enable this feature
but its not working - anyone able to help please??
Weird thing is, about 6 months ago I was testing this on a few computers and it worked perfectly, now we want to test again - its all not working!
Below is the pwrmgmt.log file - doesnt seem to be saying much.

Any Group Policies for Power Options?
Also, you need to make sure the Power Plan in Power Option on the computers is what exactly you set in SCCM. If it is, check the power reqests by powercfg /requests command.

  • Power Management not working

I was having trouble with my Power Management settings not working. When running on the Power Adapter, my computer would stay awake with the screen on indefinitely, and when running on the Battery, it would shut off the screen after 1 minute and sleep after 5 minutes. The problem showed up when I would change the sliders in the Energy Saver window only to watch them go right back where they were after about 10 seconds. Obviously the lock was unlocked, but I was unable to change the settings no matter what I tried.
The solution came when I checked the Power Management preferences file located in the pref file at /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
I brought up the information for the plist file and noticed that under Sharing & Permissions the Admin account was missing. I added Administrators to the permissions list and voila! The Energy Management panel began working again!
Problem solved and I hope this helps anyone else out there as I seemed to be the only one having this problem.

Hey Chad - Thanks for this tip - I checked in both my user library and the system library and couldn't find either the plist doc or the System Configuration folder. I'm having trouble with energy saver since the latest OS X update and wondering if they've blitzed it somehow!
    Any ideas?

  • Solaris 10u6 fresh install - can't get Solaris Management Console working

    Hey guys,
I have been searching all over but can't seem to find any help on getting SMC working. I have a fresh install of Solaris 10u6 on a Sun Fire V20z.
So I login via ssh to the solaris machine ("unknown"), and It looks like wbem is online:
    root@unknown:/# svcs wbem
    STATE          STIME    FMRI
    online         16:37:50 svc:/application/management/wbem:default
root@unknown:/# And netstat shows that my machine is listening on port 898
    root@unknown:/# netstat -an|grep 898
    127.0.0.1.898              *.*                0      0 49152      0 LISTEN
    root@unknown:/# The problem is
    1)
When I try to do anything in the smc launched with as
smt -toption for terminal mode, I always end up getting the message:
There is no Solaris Management Console Server running on localhost.2)
If I login from my laptop with X11 forwarding on, and launch the graphical interface, it does come up with the main window that says "Solaris Management Console 2.1" and the "Open Toolbox" window. However, in the Open Toolbox window it says "Server Not Running"
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, since svcs says that wbem is running... I'm pretty new to Solaris, working hard to get up to speed, so I'd really appreciate any help you guys could offer.
    Thanks,
    Jamie

For some reason it was able to run once by running the command
    # /etc/init.d/init.wbem start
But no matter what I do, I can't get it to work one lick with
    # svcadm enable wbem
    Any ideas guys?

  • Converting RGB to CMYK - Huge color shift. Any tips on getting some decent color back?

I just downloaded a St. Patricks day background from iStockPhoto. Nice vibrant green. We all know when converting to CMYK from RGB, there is a color shift but this is pretty dang dramatic. Any basic tips on getting some of that vibrant color back after converting?

You can boost greens by printing another pass of yellow with the same halftoning on top of your cyan areas. Black and yellow naturalyl also can give the appearance of certain dark green colors, but this may only work on vbery fine rasters. Printing an extra color is always an option, but also keep in mind that a lot depends on what paper is used and how it interacts with the inks. Also many magazines use gloss coating on their front page, which hugely influences perception of "depth" in the colors. And don't forget all the perceptional tricks - such mags often use colored pages because the green looks more saturated when surrounded by a dark red, brown or ocre...

Hello! I have a problem with my laptop, a lenovo b590. (pentium 2020m, 4gb ram, intel hd graphics): the Lenovo Power Management driver not working....
Is exactly the same as here, but, the only difference is that I use windows 8.1:

As no one could solve the problem there, I thought it may be more visible now and someone can help me
So, how can I solve this problem?
Edit: I tried everything that was said there, to no avail ...
    Sorry for my english..

i'm not sure if there's any suitable cooling pads for your computer but cleaning the fan could be another solution. it may work but it may also void your warranty.
due to it's probably hardware issue, at this point i don't think i have much suggestions for you.

On my t430s I can't get the Thinkvantag Power Manager working. Was someone succesful with this?

    "Erm...how do I do that??"
Install Power Management driver. Download Lenovo Power Manager for Windows7 to desktop or wherever you want.
Right click the file > Properties > Compatibility > Windows7. Haven't tried it myself but it appears people with Windows
    8 say that it's working.

  • Power Management/Sleep Mode

    Hi Guys,
I have searched the forum and not come up with what is going on with my new Mac Pro 2.66. When I got it, and set the energy saver to power down the monitor and drives at 15 minutes it worked just fine. Now all of a sudden it will not put the unit to sleep after 15 minutes. It will do what I have scheduled, that is to shut down at 11:00PM each night and start up again at 6:00AM in the morning, but during the day "will Not" sleep after 15 minutes. It will manually sleep if I choose that from the open apple menu.
I went through a series of diagnostics with Apple tech support, including removing all .plist files for energy saver and startup preferences, and also did a complete new install from my system CD's. The apple rep says it seems to be a power supply issue after he also had me reset the power management module by disconnecting all cables from the cpu, powering down and then waiting 2 minutes, restarting and then reconnecting all cables and peripheral devices.
Based on some of your vast experience, do you concur with apple tech support that a new power supply replacement may be in order?
    Many thanks for your input...
    Jim

Disk Warrior is essential. And no you aren't going to find a disk repair program dealing with corrupt files and directories that is shareware.
    Onyx is freeware though.
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11582/onyx
I have gotten into trouble with TCC though I used it for years, never deep cleaning. For that I preferred Applejack (donation-ware). Onyx seems okay but also scares me with its "improved" and "corrected a bug in..." mentioned in updates. Seems excellent, and maybe it really is complicated.
I backup daily with multiple sets, use SuperDuper and follow up with Disk Warrior afterwards and as preventative maintenance.
MacFixit has some excellent tutorials on best practices for doing system updates and maintenance. I deep clean caches with Applejack.
TCC and Onyx have menu items to kill delete remove Spotlight. Or there is "Spotless" as well.

  • How do I get Application Manager to work correctly?

Sunday after totally reloading Master Suite CS6 because of problems with Spry tools not working in a new program, used only one week.   Later,I received a application icon and it was going to update the Application program and most other program updates. After hours of watching the box do nothing I opened task manager and found that the Application manager was for the cloud version and not my desktop version that I bought. ( Nice going Adobe People) Here I am 5 days later and the same icon shows up so I choose everything and hit install. Everything downloads and installs fine and this time magically the Application manager is for my desktop version in task manager. After installing I reboot as suggested and programs open up fine, except the Application manager tries to install upon opening the icon but fails to install. (It says it failed to install)  After paying a small fortune for this I am disappointed that I have to waste my time trying to get Adobe software to work properly. Is this not what they have developers for so they can get the bugs out before they release something? Anyway, Is ther some magically way I can get this to work or do I have to wait, hoping the little Application icon comes my way again.

  • Since "upgrading" (?) to Lion, my Hewlett Packard scanner has ceased to function. "Power PC products are no longer supported." Is there any way to get my scanjet3570c to work again as it did so well before?

Since upgrading (?) to Lion my HP 3570c scanner won't operate because "power PC products are no longer supported"
Is there any way I can get a perfectly serviceable scanner (HP3570c) to work with my iMac?

Is it just the HP software that's not compatible, rather than the scanner itself?
A couple of things you could try that may work. Launch Image Capture in the Applications folder and see if that recognises your scanner. If that draws a blank, you could try downloading VueScan from www.hamrick.com and see if that works. If does, you'll need to buy a licence to make it fully functional.
