Any tips on how to make vocal recordings sound their most professional.....

using Logic Pro and/or Reason3???

Well for me I would say.
Firstly I would think, out is the recording going to sound/What would I like it to sound like.
Then to know as to what mic sounds better in matching CERTAIN VOCALS. Weather to use condencer mic/ dynamic mic. Then to find out what condenser sounds better, on what VOCALS.
The same apply to the dynamic- mic,s Which is used lesser to record vocals compare to condenser MIC,s.
SURE S-M 57/58 are said to be very good in recording vocal even though its A dynamic MIC.
Then to choose A good mic-pre-amp, / A pre-amp that has A exciter, can be A plus. In doing so you could Dress the voice up to your suite, in Matching and to acheive the best sounding vocals, for that vocalist.
Make ing sure that the LEVELS on whatever secquencer its being recorded is, at A level so as not to peak. Nor- to be at A level where it is too low.
Also to make sure the singer is comfortabe in hearing themself, comfortable and if eg. they wanted to here A bit of REVERB you could some on A channel strip in logic, which would not be capture in the TAKE of the recording but just to see the best proformace on that artist,e. In saying this this is only A secondary method. Try to record takes for say 20-30 second. of the vocals then to see which set up ROCKS. Then off you go, In acheav-ing A good recording. Having POP-SHIELD is A plus, It will stop glich mainly on pppppppp,s and bbbbbbbb,s for it not to rice to A higher level, And also to have the vocalist moves their head A bit bacwards when hitting hight Notes. And with seible-ins / hiss. and will sound A bit like the right Dynamic frenquency after it has been recorded.
Close-er to the mic, will produce A bass-er sound. further away will producer A higher frequency.
A ROOM that has very little reverbtion or no REVERB at all will end up better so that it comes out with less room atsphere when capture, away fr the mic will produce more ATSPHERE of the room.
Last but not least Good Headphones is very NEEDED. Fitted tighly to the EARS so has not to let the sound escape in to the mic when recording, To acheive the best RECORDINGS.
The person who takes the Recording should know A little about KEYS.Are to have. good hearing.
MAKE SURE THE MIC IS TURN TO FRONT
NOT BACKWARDS AND ON ITS RIGHT SETTINGS
MIC SHOULD ALL-SO BE IN-LINE WITH THE ARTISTE NOSE AND MOUTH.
MOSTLY 6/8 INCH FR MIC/ WHATEVER INC,S TO MAKE THE DAY.
QUITE-Room.
LOOKING for/
BAD-PRONOUNCES -IATION.
WRONG KEYS.
WRONG PITCH.
NOTICE the CHANGE,S IN VOLUME OF VOCALS, ON TAKES COMPARE TO PREVIOUS TAKES.
HAS GOOD HEADPHONES. ARE USED REFFRENCE MONITORS TURN TO A LOW VOLUME SO AS NOT TO DISTURB THE TAKE OF THE SESSION
AND TO BE MOTIVATIVE/ PAITENT/HAS A OPEN- MIND
NOT AFRAID TO SPEAK IS/HER- MIND
CONFIDENCE IN WHAT THE PRODUCE-ER WANTS.
AND TO KNOWS ALL-SO WHAT SOUNDS RIGHT./ ARE AGAIN WHAT COULD, MAY BE A STYLE INSTEAD OF A SPOIL.
AND NOT TO WASTE MUCH TIME.
ALSO MAKE SURE NOT TO LET THE ARTISTE DRINK COLD DRINKS AT THE MINUTE THEY ARE SOON TO BE RECORDED.
THIS WILL KEEP CHANGE-ING THE PITCH IN VOICE OF THE ARTISTE.
THEN THIS LEAVES US FOR, THAT MAGIC RECORDING.
AND WITH HAVE-ING DONE THIS.
IT WILL BE EASY-ER TO MIX.
AND TO USED TO USED LESS PLUGGINS ON THE MIX/ OF A GOOD RECORDING.

I have a Macbook Pro 15" that is three and a half years old.  Although it has slowed a bit, it still runs well and runs every program I need. Any tips for how to keep this old computer running well and in good health?
I have a 250 gig drive and try to keep at least 100 gigs unused at all times, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory, back up with Time Machine and CrashPlan, and have OS X 10.7.3.
This was my first Mac since an old Apple II GS.  After that I used PC's and got really good at reformatting, replacing drives, reinstalling, defragging, resolving software conflicts, etc.  Since switching back to Macs (five in my extended family now), I haven't had to do any of those things. So, although, the cost is three times as much, the aggrevation has been ten times less.
I'm retired and living on a fixed income and would therefore like to keep this computer running as opposed to constatntly upgrading.
    That said, any tips?
    Thanks
It does have a crack on the left of the screen case about 3/4'' up from the bottom.  I've posted that as another question.

Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior.  Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Adding more RAM, if feasible, and a new, faster hard drive may also help pep it up a little.

  • Does anyone have any tips on how to maximize battery life of MacBooks ?

I have just bought the new Macbook 15'' after my older macbook (2009 version) had gone through some issues with its battery. The battery life of my old mac became very short, maybe due to overcharging etc. Therefore I want to make sure I dont make any mistakes this time around and make good use of my battery so that it doesnt get damaged too fast. Does anyone have any tips on how to do this? Or perhaps any MUST NOTs (things that would be harmful to the battery), eg. overcharging?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Macs do not have overcharging. The battery is stopped being charged when it is full, so do not worry about that.
The most basic tip is to make regular battery cycles and do not disconnect the MacBook Pro from the charger until the battery is fully charged. Then, if you want, you can use your MacBook plugged in all the time, but remember to make a cycle at least once a month to keep the battery life. Also, do not let your MacBook turn off because its battery ran out of energy.

Any tips on how to improve battery life on new macbook pro?

It all depends on how much you plan to run on battery power. If you don't use it often, set yourself a reminder to let it run unplugged about every couple of weeks to aboout a 40% charge and then plug it up and let it charge back to 100%. If you'r'e a frequent battery user (like me) don't let your MBP discharge to the point where you're running on reserve power - down to about 30 minutes remaining and then charge it back in.
I have over 130 cycles on my computer and I've just had it since March. Even though my battery health was 102.2% when I got my MBP, it's still at 98.8% health and I'm still getting 7+ hours out of my battery. To get the longest use when under battery, keep your activities to low-CPU intensive apps (browser, email client, word processor, etc.) - Internet surfing alone, and not watching a lot of online videos, will give you mor ebang for the buck. You can also check your battery health in 'real time' by using "Battery Health" - free from the App Store and you can make sure that you're running on integrated graphics, which uses less power, by downloading Cody Krieger's exceptional gfxCardStatus.
Keep your screen brightness down to about four ticks and your keyboard backlighting to one tick - should work fine.
    Good battery health to you,
    Clinton

Is their any tutorials on how to make a navigation bar with drop downs in Dreamweaver CC now that they do not have the spry option?

    bbull2005 wrote:
Preran, why wouldn't Dreamweaver include it's own menu/navigation bar widget?
I can't answer on Preran's or Adobe's behalf, but I think you'll find at least part of the answer here: http://wiki.jqueryui.com/w/page/38666403/Menubar
Adobe decided to discontinue development of Spry in August last year, and Dreamweaver CC made the switch to using jQuery UI widgets and effects. One reason for dropping Spry was that it failed to work correctly in some browsers. Judging from the fact that the jQuery UI menubar is now "on ice", creating a flyout menu that works reliably across all devices is proving more difficult than originally envisaged.
Because all other widgets in Dreamweaver CC use jQuery UI, it's a reasonable assumption that Adobe hoped the jQuery UI menubar would be ready in time, but it wasn't.

I have lost thousands of photos in my iPhoto'08 program (v 7.1.5).  I don't think they are lost from my iMac as the storage amount hasn't decreased but the last several years of picks (over 20,000) are not showing up.  Any tips on how to relocate them?

Hi LarryHN-thanks for your quick reply!!
Nothing recently changed that  Ican think of! I went on vacation and when I returned, I uploaded my new photos.  That's when I discovered that the new photos were in the library but very few other photos were.
When you say to back up the iPhoto library, is this something different that backing up the entire iMac to an external hard drive?

Hello! Tried unsuccessfully to restore my MBP, running the Mac OSX Lion, to factory settings. I keep getting the "can't download additional components for the Mac OSX Lion" error when reinstalling the OSX Lion. Any tips on how to resolve this problem?

    Hi
Given that your answer to 1. is 'pre-installed' and 3. is 'No', I think the only thing to do is to take it to an Apple store (ideally the one you bought it from) and have them reinstall it for you.
The intended solution in cases like yours is that you should be able to reboot and install even a wiped disk by using Apple's servers over the internet (you do this by restarting with 'command-r' and choosing 'reinstall Lion'). However if this isn't working for you then you need to get the store to do it. Don't let them fob you off with 'go home and try again'. Have them do it in the shop (you're still covered by Applecare warranty so it should cost you nothing save the inconvenience of the trip and possibly leaving the machine there while they fix it).
A reinstall should leave all your own personal data and programs in place.
Note for future: when you get it fixed, first thing to do is buy a cheap external drive and start keeping a backup (either Time Machine or clone with Carbon Copy Cloner).

  • Anyone have any ideas of how to make the battery on the iphone5 last longer?

Anyone have any ideas of how to make the battery on the iphone5 last longer? I don't use the phone that much and the battery does not last all day. Phone is new.

Many suggestions can be found here
    1. turn off push email and use fetch or manual fetch instead.
    2. turn off or at least limit notifications
    3. limit use of apps that use location services (eg. maps app - heavy power useage when running).
    4. in General->About->Diagnostics & Usage, turn off Automatic sending.
    5. Privacy->Location Services->System Services, disable everything (none of it need be running for normal use).
    6. Wifi, turn off "Ask to Join Networks" so your device is not polling all open networks it finds.
    7. keep brightness as low as you can get by with.
Finally, get a car charger, and a second charger for work/school and just plug in whenever it is convenient to do so.
Or, if it suits your daily routine better, get an external battery power brick or case and charge it periodically from that.
