Any tricks to speed up export/share?

I have a two and a half minute video that is nothing but static title screens over audio, changing for each of five 30 second pieces of audio. I am exporting it so I can post it to YouTube (Share to YouTube), and it is going to take over an hour and a half on my Late 2009 MacBook. This is completely unacceptable. On previous, slower machines, I could export radio ad videos like this and upload them to YouTube in a fraction of this time.
What is it encoding? Geez.
Does anyone know any tricks for speeding up this process? I even tried setting it to the lowest resolution on share (it's just audio, so it doesn't really matter how "great" the title text looks)... Same thing.
Very frustrating, since I currently do not have home internet, and I have to bring my laptop down to a WiFi hotspot to do uploading.

For years, I have used Final Cut Express, importing DV, HDV, then most recently, AVCHD in to Apple Intermediate format for editing. I would export a reference .mov, and then convert that in Visual Hub for uploading. When Visual Hub dropped out, I just started using QuickTime. It was annoying, because you had to go in to the .mov and edit the aspect ratio to make 16x9 show up properly (fortunately, there was an Apple support doc on this, else I would have just assumed it was broken).
I love FCPX except for the bugs, and the speed. I am only a few weeks in to using it, and so far have used it for two TV ads. I am still trying to understand Proxy and Optimized. I have no internet access at home, currently, so the help files are not available (I had to print to PDF the online version for reference). I have been importing with Proxy, assuming it gives me something quicker/easier to edit, and on output, it would go back to the source AVCHD files and emit full resolution 1080. At least, I hope it works that way.
In my projects, as I move forward, I will be shooting only in 1080 and trying to output 1080 files for TV and for YouTube. This, alone, would take more time even if everything else is similar.
But geez, the time it takes to output a 30 second TV ad was just mind blowing :( I had a 3 minute video of a band playing a song, and it was taking almost two hours to export and post to YouTube!

  • Any way to speed up export?

I exported 381 raw images(versions) from AP3 to a desktop folder at 50% size in jpg format. The total time was just under 7 hours.
Anyone know if I can speed this up or is this a standard time? Using a MBP C2D with max ram.
    Thanks,
    BobM

Okay, so I ran a test.
15 "virgin" photos, with no adjustments other than the default Raw Fine Tuning, some keywords and ratings applied. 1m40s = 6.67 seconds/photo. Pretty good I'd say, but the photos look pretty blah
Then I took the same 15 I exported yesterday, turned off shadows/highlights but kept the other adjustments intact and gave it a go:
    5m0s = 20 seconds/photo. A 36 second difference per photo just by turning off highlights/shadows!
Unfortunately, these photos were of my kids sledding at one of the local mountains, so kids in dark snowsuits against white snow with dark evergreen trees in the background. Shadows/highlights, curves and levels were used to varying degrees to optimize the photos and get the tonalities right, as you can imagine.
    Ridiculous work-around? I'd say...

  • RDX drive -- terrible transfer rate (writing to drive). Is there any way to speed it up?

I've tried both drag and drop and the Robocopy command to copy files to a RDX drive (under Win 7 home and pro). It starts off fast anough (25MB/sec) but shortly slows down to something like 1.5 MB/sec.  Just 35GB takes well more than 2 hours to copy.  And of course if there are many files involved it just gets worse.
Are there any tricks for speeding up writing to the drive?

Yes. You can download the Firefox installer and copy the file to an USB stick or other medium and install Firefox from that drive.
You can find all Firefox versions here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html

  • Oracle 10gR2 - Any way to speed up Transportable Tablespace Import?

I have a nightly process that uses expdp/impdp with Transportable Tablespace option to copy a full schema from one database to another. This process was initially done with just expdp/impdp, however the creation of the indexes started to slow down the process at which time I switched to using Transportable Tablespace.
In the last 3 months, the number of objects in the schema has not changes however the amount of data has increased 15.73%. At the same time, the Transportable Tablespace impdp has increased 30.77% in time to process.
Is there any way to speed up a Transportable Tablespace impdp in Oracle 10gR2? The docs show that I cannot use parallel with TTS. I have excluded STATISTICS in the export.
Eventually I will be moving away from doing this TTS expdp/impdp, however for now I need to do what I can to contain the amount of time it takes to process.
Environment: Oracle 10.2.0.4 (source and destination) on Sun Solaris SPARC v10. We are not using ASM currently. Tablespace is 6 datafiles for a total of 87.5GB, 791 tables, 1924 indexes, 1773 triggers, and 10 LOBs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

My reading of this thread was that there was a need to be able to do offline setups when the client had lost oracle lite (we get this on PDAs all the time when they go totally dead), so the CD install is something that can be sent out.
Any install (CD or otherwise) will be empty in terms of applications and data, not much you can do about that on a CD, but depending on the type of device and the storage possibilities you have you can secure the database and application files seperately. for example on a PDA using the external SD or flash for the data and file storage will keep them when the orace directory is lost from main storage and therefore all thet is needed after the oracle lite recovery is to recreate the odbc file (and possibly polite if you have special parameters). The setting of the crr flags for 'real' data on the server is a trick to bring the database up to date without a total rebuild.
NOTE if you use SD cards etc. on PDAs/small devices, beware of windows ce/mobile power up differential between main memory and external storage. If you power down in the middle of an update or query, you can get device read/write errors when the device powers up due to processing continuing before the storage media is active

  • Trying to export/share in a format readable by Powerpoint2010 when insert video

Using Premier 11 Elements...... I'm trying to export/ share videos to my computer, then trying to insert them into a Powerpoint slide. It works fine if I use a raw WMV format straight from the camera, but they need editting. I'm doing the editing enhancing sound etc in Premier11 Elements, but when I "share' I can't find how to save as a .wmv format??
When I choose Share>Computer>  I end up with MP4 files or XMPSES files... all will not function when inserted into Powerpoint. I get a message "media unavailable" after pasted. Or sometimes the message "Powerpoint cannot insert" this file format.
How do I export as a .wmv?? the help info available says Premier 11 elements should do this!?
thanks for any help you can give, I'm new to this and under a time crunch for work.

    Elizabeth B65
Thanks for the great news. Glad the suggestions worked for you.
If you want to take your Premiere Elements 11 Expert workspace Timeline to the 1920 x 1080 .wmv file for PowerPoint, the export from the following should insert into your PowerPoint 2010 nicely:
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    Windows Media
    with Presets = 720 x 480 16x9 29.97
Then under the Advanced Button/Video Tab, the essentials are:
Video codec = Windows Media Video 9
    Encoding passes = Two
    Bitrate Mode = Variable Unconstrained
    Frame Width = 1920 pixels
    Frame Height = 1080 pixels
Frame Rate = 29.97 frames per second
Pixel Aspect Ratio = Square Pixels (1.0)
The default "Average Video Bitrate" appears to be 1500 Kbps (kilobits per second). You can experiment with that later if necessary, finding the compromise between Bitrate, quality, and file size.
By the way, the installation of QuickTime is a requirement for working with Premiere Elements. The first sign of its absence is its presets missing from the Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime. Typically the program requires being run Run As Administrator or from a User Account with Administrative Privileges.
Please let us know how else we might help.
    Thanks.

I Use the last FCX but  I have a prob when I export (share) to dvd the result is over 4GB for a single DVD is about 6 to 9 Gb for a short film of 1h so what can I do to fix this thnks

These "Share" files are accessed and used by the Create Disc app.
Create Disc is buried in the FCP X package.
    Applications>FCP X>Show Package Contents>Contents>Plugins>Compressor>Compressor Kit.bundle>Show Package Contents>Embedded Apps>Create Disc
I'm wondering if having the Compressor Application on a Mac makes a difference to having just FCP X on a Mac and the use of the Sharing feature.
I have Compressor loaded and find that DVD and Bluray burns from Share without any glitches as some are experiencing.

  • COBRAS - any way to speed things up?

I'm working on a customer system and will be using COBRAS to migrate user data this weekend.  There are three systems involved, the largest of which has some 8900 subscribers on it.  Running the backup of the system using COBRAS took 1 hour and 50 minutes.
Currently running a test import to see how long things will take, and I'm at 14 hours now and it's still cranking.  The display is showing me import stage [10 of 20] Subscriber Modification and Current Object [83.3% Complete]
Trying to figure out if there is any way to speed this up.  For instance:
    1.  If the COBRAS workstation is layer 2 adjacent to the UCxN publisher, is this preferred, does it tend to work faster?
    2.  Would this run faster if I did a bulk creation of the mailboxes first and then use COBRAS to update/fine tune them?
    3.  During user creation, I was watching and it seemed to create anywhere from 6 to 12 users, and then just stop for around 30 seconds give or take.  The logs don't show any reason for this, but with the number of times it happened, it's having a significant impact.
I'm running the most recent builds of export/import (downloaded them yesterday).
Any recommendations, thoughts, observations, etc. appreciated.
    TIA
    Cliff

  • QuickTime export/share fails to export video in Lion OS

I have a 9 gb .mov file (that I created and exported from FCP 7). I can open this file in QT, it opens & plays fine. I am however not able to create a compressed m4v version of this file from QT. I need to do this to enable a download of this movie onto my iPad, iPhone and stream through Apple TV, It creates an m4v file with no video but just audio. This problem happens with both the Export & Share options. And NO, I am not using the "Audio only" option. This was a simple task through Snow Leapord and I have done that several times. Not sure what to do, I am not able to get any help form Apple Support (I have a valid support extended warrenty). Can someone please help?

Thank you for the answer. The information was useful, the tone was not what I expected. When I asked whether more specific headings could be encouraged, I meant it out of sympathy for the moderators/answerers, not to incur their ire. Perhaps it would have been better if I'd left out the editorial comment.
I searched for 'audio', which I thought was a more technical term than 'sound'.
I read the indicated specs for QT above. The MPEG shortcoming is not laid out there clearly in any sense. MPG is not listed as an export format, so from that I would conclude QT can't export to MPEG1.
It is clear in the Apple article. For it to be 'clear' to anyone right away, it should be added in one sentence to the relevant help section of QT: 'QT will not export files with some codecs because of their proprietary neature.'
Or it should be in a pop-up message as soon as you try to export an mpg: 'Because mpeg is ownded by someone else, export will only render video'.
I believe I asked a valid question, and provided a specific account of my problem, so this post will be useful for future browsers.
Because VisualHub dealt easily with mpg, I thought QT must too. I was wrong.

  • Is there a way to export/share a project from 10.0.1 to Quicktime?

Any one else struggling with this? I think Mavericks seems good, early days though.

Cheers for that Matthew. Is there a way to do it(export/share project to QuickTime for rendering)
Or a similar function in the new iMovie?
Or could you direct me to a site with such details.
Much appreciated for any feedback. If I find anything I'll post a link here too.
    Enjoy ya day

  • NI-DAQ 6008USB: any trick to use PGA also for RSE inputs?

    I'm using a NI-6008.
The sensor that I'm using, give me 0..1.5V in output and it's powered by
+5V of the 6008 so it share the same GND with 6008:
    +5V
    [SENSOR] -----out----> >--AI0
    | >--GND
    --- GND
In this scenario, must I configure input as RSE input?
(DAQmx_Val_RSE in NI-DAQmx) or I can configure input as differential
    input (DAQmx_Val_Diff in NI-DAQmx)?
But, so doing, I can't use PGA to achieve full scale, since Gain=1 when
    RSE inputs are used.
Is there any trick to force use of PGA also with RSE inputs?
    Thanks in advance

If you are using 4 AI channels or less and you're using the same ground all around, you can operate in differential mode and ground the - terminal and connect your measurement to the + terminal.  This will allow for the use of the internal amplifier which will give you a higher effective resolution.

  • Aperture : Adjustments Speed / Batch Export Options

Anyone have any tips for speeding up Adjustments. The UI is very slow. [Just switching over from Capture One Pro] 4.5 GB quad G5 stock. When you click on the adjustment it takes a second to think about what you just did and then you can start to change things. In the end the final export is way faster so it almost makes up for it. Without going to Automator is there a way to do multiple outputs. [Example Output a Web, PDA, and 16Bit TiFF all at the same time?]
    Thanks,
    -Jonathan

That's correct, Aperture uses the GPU (Graphics processing unit) to update the whole image as you adjust it. I'd like to see in Aperture something like Capture One or Lightroom do, using a small resolution preview to display the adjustments as they are being made and refresh the whole image once the adjustments sliders have been released. It would make Aperture's experience much more enjoyable in slower machines.

  • Any way to speed up render of Livetype files?

We use some Live type overlays for our show... and we have a very short amount of time to do the actual show. (30 minute show twice a day...with about 2 hours of work time to edit the whole thing and I'm the only one doing it).... so any increase in speed is acceptable (as long as it doesn't increase export to quicktime file time)...
The overlays take a really long time it seems to render. like a 30 second tease with a livetype overlay takes around 12-15 minutes depending... Aside from buying more ram or a faster mac (not an option) what can I do to render this faster? With such a limited time to edit its really annoying waiting so long for such a short amount of timeline to render.
    Thanks in advance.
Oh and after I edit I still have to export the timeline to a single quicktime file to play it out without it dropping frames. Thats fine its just another 20-45 minutes that I have to squeeze into my day. 20 minutes with the whole timeline rendered and ready to go, 45 or longer (its hard to tell cause it says 3-4 hours for most of the timeline and doesn't give me an accurate time until the very end) if I don't have any of the livetype stuff rendered.

Shut down all other programs and processes while
    rendering in FCP.
Always do... even make sure that things like Safari and quicktime close out completely.
Keep LT elements as simple as possible, no heavy
effects, especially drop shadows and opacity
    settings.
Not sure but perhaps Title 3D elements might render
    faster.
Thats a different beast as I have to go with the graphics my boss has approved and likes... even if I'm not crazy about them.
Are you working with DV. If so you should be able to
print the timeline to tape or play it out without
    dropping frames.
Well some are mpeg2's converted to dv (because they don't have audio if I try and import them straight in as mpeg2. But some is captured from Betacam SP Decks and some is captured from our studio (both of those being in uncompressed 8bit)
Make sure that your drives are not going to sleep at
    any time.
Make sure you have a minimum of 10% free space on you
    capture drives.
Done and done...although I do notice that even if sleep is turned off on the drives they still take some time to "wake up" when I come back to the computer after a while. Sleep isn't turned on but sometimes I have to wait about 10 seconds or so for the drives to respond to anything...but only if I haven't used that drive in a while. Maybe there's a setting I'm missing? Mac isn't my primary machine experience so I only really use one at work.
Might try running Apple Disk Utilities and a program
like Disk Warrior on your drives to help keep them
    running efficiently.
Thanks.... I'll have to see about giving those a shot. Its not gonna destroy any archive files we have is it? Being a news show we have to keep a pretty healthy supply of archival footage.

  • Hello, I have updated to the newest Pages and yet when I open a document to use it says, "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document." When I got to install it again it says I have already done that. Anybody have any tricks? Thanks!

Hello, I have updated to the newest version of Pages and yet when I open a document to use it says, "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document." When I got to install it again it says I have already done that. Anybody have any tricks? Thanks!

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 95 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.
