Any unified codec for Mac?

Hi, I used to be a PC user but now a Mac lover, however, I encountered this 'codec' problem. As you know, there are many kinds of 'codec package' for windows or lots of media players already include basic codecs by themselves. Does anybody know if there is something like 'unified codec package' that I can download? Or do I just have to find individual codec whenever it's necessary to play the movie?

If you've moved to the mac and want to leave those "codec packs" behind, convert everything to MPEG-4. Not what the PC world believes is MPEG-4, but the true .mp4/m4v/.mov variety. Get an inexpensive program like VisualHub or use the free iSquint to convert your videos to a usable standard and, as long s you're running QuickTime, you'll never need to go search for "codec packs" again.

  • AVC - Any Video Converter for Mac

    Hello,
I've been in search of a "complete" replacement for (now discontinued) VisualHub for converting "many"
video formats to the ones I use most frequently (DV, DVD, iTunes to name just 3).
Today, I found "Any Video Converter for Mac"
<http://www.any-video-converter.com/mac-software.php> but want to see if there are other Mac users out there, uh, using it. It's shareware: $44.95, so I'd like to know if it's worth the money b4 plunking down that much cash.
Anybody here who has a "review" on this app would be helpful.

    Brie,
Just the 3-minute clip length on the demo. This prevents testing it on full length videos when the original cannot be edited "natively" by Mac OSX. That is, when you have a five minute clip in .wmv format, no editing means the clip can't be snipped to less then 3 minutes for testing with AVC.
The obvious: Flip4Mac can be used for this but that's another $29.95 (or more- it's tier priced based on editing capabilities) on top of the $44.95 for the AVC app.
The other thing which caused me to ask for reviews by users of the paid version is that some formats required downloading additional codecs from the developer of AVC. I know from experience that installing codecs "willy-nilly" can lead to system instability. So it's either pay for the version of Flip4Mac which can edit the wmv type files or take a chance that the additional codec from the developer will let me edit a longer than 3-min. wmv file (with the aforementioned risk).
This is a relatively new developer, and I am not an early adopter. Logically, I thought there might be one of those early adopters out there who could point the way for the rest of us (video editors). The obvious goal: making more video stock available for use in iMovie projects.

    Dear all,
is there a an xvid codec for Mac OS 10.3.9 running Quicktime 7.3.1? The Perian site only offers a codec for OS 10.4.
    Thanks for any help,

Get the dvix player; the codec which comes with it makes these films work fine on QuickTime.

are ther any upgrades available for download for Mac OSX 10.5.8????

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Mac OS X 10.5.8 is Leopard. Mac OS X Leopard was launched in 2007 and is now discontinued, so Apple isn't releasing more updates for it.
Your only option is to upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, if your Mac is compatible > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575 You can buy it in the Apple Online Store > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

I just received a message from a friend and when I replied to it, he said it wasn't from him and that his computer had a virus. He only has a Mac, so wondering if there are any new problems with Mac or viruses.
    Thanks

There are no known viruses, but there is a live trojan. However, you cannot be infected by a trojan simply from receiving it in an email. Nevertheless, you can check your system:

A Google search can reveal a variety of alternatives on how the remove the trojan should your computer get infected. This can get you started.
This will remove it if present: Anti Flashback-Trojan 1.0.1

  • Is there any recycling program for mac book batteries?

Is there a recycling program for the mac book batteries??

I believe that Apple will take them for you, but there are a number of other places that will recycle batteries no matter the source.  Staples, for example...  I just recently took them a box of 4 laptop computers, with batteries, one of them a smashed-up MacBook Pro (), and it was very easy.  They recycle not just the batteries but the whole computer too.  Call around to local office supply businesses and see who will take them.

  • Is there any new release for Mac Pro in this few months?

I want to buy a MacBook pro but I'm afraid if I buy it in these few months and it'll have a new release. So I wonder if there's any release for MacBook Pro this soon?

Apple has no set schedule for updating or releasing new hardware and the general rules of the past have pretty much all gone by the wayside these last 2 years. All I can tell you is that speculation about new Apple products is against the terms of service here and that the best time to buy a new computer is when you need it. Waiting to try and get the newest Apple product is a mug's game - just not worth it.
