This worries me the most which is now why i will cut that sucker open when i get it before the guy leaves. But is apple or fedex doing anything for the people who are out of luck at the moment?

  • Why does't Flashplayer work after I agreed to an update from an Adobe pop-up box prompt?

I had problems last year when Flashplayer stopped working suddenly.  After months of seeking help, I received instructions that fixed the problem...until the other day.  A pop-up box from Adobe appeared indicating an update was available.  I agreed to installing the update and the Flashplayer has not worked since.  I referred to my notes from the "fix" last year and made one adjustment in the Active-X settings, but this did not help.  Flashplayer still does not work.  Help!  I just don't think I can go through this for several months again.

    Hi,
I am going to try reorganizing my reply first and
just forwarding to you before I try to recover a
message.  I think the problem may be that I
provided answers within your text instead of
separately.  Your system may not like the format
I tried.  So here goes....  I have pulled my
answers out of your message and they appear in
the order of your inquiries below.
“Check the Windows system tray carefully to make
certain no applications are still in memory which
might possibly use Flash Player.” –a statement
from the Adobe Un-install link article.  I don't
know what “in memory” means.  The only things I
have that may use Flashplayer that I know of is
the Weather Bug.  Windows Mediaplayer is also
listed in my programs, but I have never used it.
Also, there is no mention of Norton here, but
Norton Internet Security ’09 is what I have installed.
    1. No Firefox.  MSN Exlorer is listed among my
Programs, but I have never used it.  It was
likely installed by Dell when I purchased the computer.
    2. Norton Internet Security '09.  Bell Internet
Security - Alert is listed in my programs (with
options, including uninstall) but this is the first time I have noticed it.
    3. Norton Internet Security has a firewall with
it that I understand is way better than Windows.
    4. There is a Google toolbar, Norton toolbar and
a bunch of stuff listed in the Manage Add-ons
like Skype, Adobe and Sun Java Console which I think are add-ons.
Java Webstart is listed under Accessories in
Programs.  In Programs is Adobe Distiller 6.0,
Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard, Adobe (which is
empty), Adobe.com and Adobe Reader 9.  I did not find DLM or GetPlus.
I found no listing for Shockwave Flash
Object.  You did not ask this and I don't mean to
get ahead of you but in case there is relevance,
I looked in Internet Options, Security, Custom
and saw a number of reference to Active X and
plug-ins, some of which are disabled; others enabled.
From reading in your posts to mlmarg, I saw the
instructions for finding the Flash folder and
used them.  I used Explorer to access My
Computer,, C Drive, Folder 1386, Folder System
    32.  There are 2 items in it from 2002 but not
what I think you want.  The 2 are SMSS.EXE and
NTDLL.DLL.  If this is not correct, I will need your instructions to locate it.
I will ask because I don't always understand
what you are asking of  me.  Thanks.

  • I'd like to receive the email adresses from those who subscribe to my blog.

I'd like to receive the email adresses from those who subscribe to my blog. Is this possible in iWeb?
    Gerrit.

No, this is not possible through iWeb. The best that you can probably do is to ask subscribers to email you, or maybe you can make a guestbook or something like that that subscribers can sign.
If you want to have stats for your blog, like how many subscribers, etc.... you should check out FeedBurner. You can get StatCounter-like stats from your feed by converting it to a feedburner feed. As far as I can tell, though, email addresses are not gathered.
    Example: http://feeds.feedburner.com/dirtdoog

    Hi Bradley,
Just sorted my iphone 5 out, by doing a full reset & starting from the very beginning.
My phone seems to be working fine now.
Although it seems I didn't back up my 4S properly & I'm missing all my messages & notes since the end of July
Hope a full complete reset works for you.

  • Looking for feedback from those who have installed Windows

I have an Intel iMac - brilliant machine, I love it. I have not installed Windows : I just don't have the need to justify doing it, but I'm glad to know I can if I do need, or just want to.
Having a Mac is almost like being immune to viruses (almost - I'm not careless). Everytime I use a PC there are message about viruses - it must drive them crazy! And to install Windows on my iMac would render it vulnerable.
I'm just looking for feedback from those who have taken the plunge: how's it working for you? I'm not so concerned about the speed...more so about .exe files running amok.
There is no way I will install Windows without a valid need and hearing at least a couple of first hand user experiences

I HAVE SPENT 1 HOUR TODAY AT THE APPLE SHOP ASKING THE GENIUS GUY - WHY ARE APPLE COMPUTERS IMMUNE TO VIRUS AND HOW DO I PROTECT MY PERSONAL INFORMATION FROM BEING INTERROGATED AND TRANSMITTED TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD.
MY QUERY STEMS FROM EMAILS - IF THEY HAVE A PICTURE ATTACHED THE MACHINE WILL NOT OPEN THE PICTURES - THE MESSAGE SAYS TO PROTECT MY IDENTITY CLICK HERE IF YOU WISH TO DOWNLOAD. I HAVE TO MAKE A JUDGEMENT TO TRUST THE SITE WHICH SEEMS ODD AND SO WHEN I ALLOW THE DOWN - I DO WONDER WHAT IS GOING ON.
I DO RUN A SEPARATE PC AND WHEN I DOWN LOAD THE MAILS ONTO THAT COMPUTER MY NORTON ENGAGES AND WARNS OF INFORMATION OF PRIVATE NATURE BEING ATTEMPTED TO BE TRANSMITTED - AT THAT STAGE I CAN STOP THE TRANSMISSION - ON THE MAC I HAVE NO MEANS - THE GENIUS GUY SAYS DON'T WORRY.
HELP - CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT IS IT ABOUT MAC THAT WOULD SETTLE MY CONCERNS AND ALLOW ME TO DOWN LOAD IMAGES CONTAINED IN EMAIL WITHOUT WORRY OF THE COMPUTER BEING FRISKED FOR DATA AND IT BEING TRANSMITTED INTO THE OUTSIDE WORLD.

  • RECIEVED EMPTY BOX FROM UPS!!

Came home from work to get my iphone 5, which had been delievered.  Opened the box and it was COMPLETELY EMPTY!  Just the iphone box inside.  No phone, no headphones, no charger, NOTHING.  I'm so upset right now, I've called UPS and Apple.

    jebr28 wrote:
Can anyone tell me the weight of their Iphone 5 shipment from UPS or FEDEX ??   My tracking shows .40 KG and I think this can prove that i was sent an empty box
I highly doubt they weighed each individual iPhone box.
Apple told them the exact weight of what it is and that's what they used.

  • I am unable to recieve any updates from Windows through Mozilla, I cant download anything

When I want to get updates it won't go through.

Microsoft has it set up so that you '''MUST''' use Internet Explorer to receive any updates. You probably still have IE installed on your system. Open it up and you'll be able to update any of your system files and any other MS software that you have installed.
You'll find the IE exe file at:
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

  • GLIMS-Any feedback from people who have tried it?

I was reading/participating in a thread with comments from those of us who prefered having two search windows in Safari and one participant suggested GLIMS.  It looks very interesting, but I'm always nervous about adding someone.  I'd be very interested in comments and feedback from anyone who has tried or is currently using Glims.
    Information is at this link:
    http://www.machangout.com
Thanks!  FYI: I'm using Lion, version 10.7.4 with Safari 6.0 on my desktop iMac.

Glims is entirely trustworthy and works a treat.
If you want to fix your Google search to a specific Google location, or a specific search engine, I recommend that you download and install the free plug-in Glims:
    http://www.machangout.com/
which not only does that but much more equally useful stuff! Such as enabling Safari to run full-screen, and more.)
(It adds items to Safari Preferences).
Not only does it already list a number of search engines and regions, but you can also add any other search engine not already listed in Glims by using the method described here:
    http://www.machangout.com/tutorials/addsearchengine
Just enter the name you give the search engine in the name field, and the URL for it in the Query URL field.

  • Any update from 3.6 will not run

    Any installed update from
    3.6.3 will not run.
Is not shown on program list but exe file shown in task manager

    OK. Try this:
    1. Delete the taskbar icon by right clicking it and selecting "unpin this program from taskbar."
    2. Click the Start button. Click All Programs and find "Adobe Lightroom 3.6 . . ." This should show up near the top of the program list.
    3. First, left click this item to be sure it works to open the program. [If not, I'm out of ideas and you may have to re-install Lightroom.] If it does work, close Lightroom (once it has opened).
    4. Click the start button and locate Lightroom 3.6 again. This time, Right-click this item - holding down the right mouse button - and drag it to an open area of the taskbar. You should see a prompt to "Pin this Program to Taskbar." If so, release the mouse button, and the new icon will appear on the taskbar. Try clicking this icon normally and LR should open for you,

  • Advice needed from those who use after action to create shared directories.

    Hello.
I am needing help from those that have successfully implemented an AD after create script to make shares and give the permissions.
I am using rmtshare.exe and cacls.
I am seeing the error string "No mapping between account names and security IDs was done" being returned by cacls.
The only way I can explain this is that the cacls command is executed by the gateway before the AD has replicated the AD account just created to all DCs and Fileservers in the domain.
Question is... have people out there with successful implementations used a delay e.g. sleep.exe between making the home directory and issuing cacls?
    If so, what delay is best.. 5 10 15 45 60 seconds???
please respond. this is driving me crazy!

The Gateway service process is definitely running as an administrator.
I put a delay of 60 seconds between the rmtshare.exe call and the cacls call.
This worked. Just that its a crazy way of doing things.
In anycase how can IdM know that an AD account it has just created on the domain controller has successfully been replicated around the whole AD domain?

  • How do I permanently delete free apps from my purchased apps to eliminate any future updates from those unwanted apps?

I want to permanently delete unwanted free apps from my purchased apps on the App Store.  How?

Mac App Store- Hiding and unhiding purchases
iTunes Store- Hiding and unhiding purchases
You cannot remove items from your list of purchases. That is simply a list of receipts kept by Apple for your account.

  • Advice from those who have had both the 2G and 3G iPhones

I am seriously considering trading my 3G iPhone for a 2G version. Those of you who have had both- do you think i will regret the trade? Mostly I use the iPhone for calling and also for emails. The internet i use only if i don't have my laptop available and sometimes i use the GPS.
Right now I pay per text msg as I did not want to pay extra for text messaging. If texting were included in the plan I would send more text msgs. I typically have the 3G turned off because I don't want the battery to be drained so quickly . . .
Oh well, right now with all that said, it sounds like I probably won't miss the 3G and maybe need to save money for now by paying for the old data plan cost with the 2G phone . . . but there is always the wondering if i will regret the trade that may take place tomorrow afternoon.
Any thoughts would be appreciated as I ponder this decision. . .

I like my iPhone 3G more than my original iPhone. 3G is nice to have, GPS has helped me many times already when on the original it was much harder because it didn't know my exact location. I prefer the plastic backing, I get greatly improved EDGE reception where as it was very poor on the original. Speaker and speaker phone volumes are much higher. My battery life is the same from what I can tell, I don't normally keep 3G on since I really use it as a data connection only while mobile.

  • Switching from Lightroom 5 to Aperture 3.5? Seeking input from those who've done the same

Long and short, I love Mac as it streamlines every process I want to do and "just works". While iPhoto is a simple program, I found it largely effective in managing my photo library for years.
Then I had a baby and bought a DSLR... I went from a taking few hundred photos a year to a few hundred a week. Right now, I'm just importing the photos directly into Lightroom 5 (upgraded for free from Lightroom 4) and occasionally doing the "round trip" from Lightroom to Photoshop Elements and back. That said, I don't have a lot of versions.
I can't put my finger on it, but I just don't like Lightroom. I feel like I'm dumping pictures into a repository that's hard to view them in. It's rather anti-intuitive to use the various modules and I find that my photos aren't any better organized than simply being dumped into folders by date. I've found them difficult to browse. Maybe there's a better method, but I haven't found it yet. I miss the simplicity of iPhoto but could probably benefit from some pro offerings. Perhaps Aperture is that happy medium that I'm locking for?
My biggest want: Importing, sorting, tagging and most importantly, organizaing and viewing photos is a simple, streamlined process.
If I were to switch to Aperture, would I simply import my Lightroom folder(s) (it organizes by date in a very Windowsesque file structure - no library like iPhoto/Aperture)? I would love for Aperture to intelligently orgnize photos into Projects by their date/location (not all are GPS tagged). I'm not worried about losing updated file versions as any changes I've made have been very minor and few in total.
Also, I read that Aperature doesn't keep versions of files that have been edited in Aperture or Photoshop. Is that true?
    Any help is much appreciated.

Yeah, I've nothing good to say about Lighroom's user interface. It was clumsy and unintuitive back in the pre-1.0 betas, and subsequent releases haven't improved the situation. Besides a vastly superior workflow, you'll also notice that Aperture makes far more efficient use of screen real estate.
Aperture's Smart Folders will let you view by date/location to your heart's content. See also Five Simple Rules. You really want to understand the different kinds of folders and how they relate to projects before you get going. Aperture will read metadata from XMP sidecars during import. See metadata mapping.
Likely the thing you'll miss most are noise reduction and lens/perspective correction. Aperture's noise control is laughable by today's standards. Do note that there's a noise slider in the raw adjustment brick of the adjustment HUD. But for anything serious you'll want to run through DxO. Same with lens/perspective correction outside of micro 4/3 lenses. Aperture now relies on Apple Maps for geotagging, the resolution of which is just awful in backcountry areas.

  • Taking the big leap: buying new computer, camera, color software (X-Rite), printers...would love some feedback from those who may know about fine art reproduction. I'm opting for Canon camera options, Mac Pro vs iMac, and in printers, the Epson 7600.

Friends of Digital Workflow, especially photographers,
I'm just about to buy all new studio equipment.
I have two threads to my question:
    1. Want some input about iMac vs Mac Pro (with a 27' monitor), which monitor system do you prefer?
    2. I am Guru level in the Creative Suite but have little knowledge base for working with Aperature. Want some feed back about pros and cons of the workflow.
I'm also investing in X-Rite Color Suite for Print so that cameras, monitors, printers and projectors may be calibrated. I've used Gretag equipment for years and know profiling quite well. This is an important issue for knowledge about how profiles interface with Aperature.
I appreciate any and all comments.
    Merci,

PS You are welcome to request my personal email or phone number if you feel a lengthy discussion is an option.

    Hi Frederick,
You're spending a lot of money.  I will add my 2¢ -- -- but you must, as I assume you know, fully research your options.
    Environment:
Start with your workspace (inc. lighting) and your clothes.
    Screen:
The iMac screens are lovely, but not, from what I hear, monitor-grade accurate.  For critical color work, use NEC or Eizo monitors.  I use NEC, with their SpectraView II software and an X-Rite ColorMunki photospectrometer.  At the time, this was the least expensive color-calibrated workflow.
    Printer:
Epson's are great, imho.  I use a 3880 in my studio and rent a 9900 by the hour when needed.  I have read of problems (iirc) with one of the printers in the 7000 line, however.  The take-home lesson that I filed in my brain was, "If you're going to spend the money on the 7000 line, just get the 9000 line."
    Aperture workflow:
Aperture is a fantastic workflow tool.  Since you are adept with PS, you should set PS as your external editor.  Use Apertures formidable tools for storing and organizing your Images, and its robust editing tools for either all your proofing, or all but your most demanding editing needs.  That said, allow a good bit of time to get the feel of Aperture.  It is not at all like Bridge.  But your important choice is which RAW converter you want to use.  There is, imho, no reason to use Aperture if you are going to use Adobe's (or anyone else's) RAW converter.
    Good luck!
    --Kirby.
