Any Upgrades Possible for Mid-2007 MBP?

I was wondering if anybody knew the answer to this question.
Before I start, there are a couple of issues I'd like to address.
First, my Macbook Pro's optical drive has become unreliable just like most other users have experienced over the years. To remedy this, I just purchased an external DVD writer. This leaves me with the thought to remove the superdrive and install a second HDD in it's place (See: Data Doubler). Also, the original HDD had failed during my Applecare warranty, and Apple had replaced it with a larger capacity one.
Second, my Time Machine backup external HDD began to make unusual and loud noises today. To me It sounds like it's approaching failure (I certainly hope not), which has really made me think about stepping up to a RAID config.
Finally, I've read in some articles about upgrading 4GB MBP's to 6GB. I was hoping if I could do the same with mine.
So my question invovles the following: Can I upgrade my MBP to have two HDDs in a RAID1 configuration, and add more memory? Can I also set up an External RAID1 or RAID5 configuation? ? If none of these apply, what are my other possible options?
I'm running Lion if that helps.
Thank you.

Just to be sure - is it a MacBookPro3,1? Need to know that first. But of course you can use the Data Doubler in your machine but to set up RAID, I think that you'd have to have two identical HD's in the bay. I've never used RAID on Mac' so I'll let someone else answer that.
As to RAM, MacTracker reports that you can use up to 6GB of RAM (1 stick of 2 GB, 1 stick of 4 GB). You can't go wrong with calling the good folks at OWC to ask about a RAID config using their Data Doubler, though.
And, as to your external 'dying,' I think that my first priority would be replacing it so that you can keep your back-ups up-to-date. You don't say, but since you can run Lion, I'm assuming you are? If so, then you could use Time Machine, which I swear by - I've been using it since my Snow Leopard days on a 2006 1,1.
Again, I'd call OWC and ask for their recommendations. Sure, they're going to want to sell you something but they are always good for advice, too.

  • Any upgrades available for Mac OSX 10.5.8?????

are ther any upgrades available for download for Mac OSX 10.5.8????

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Mac OS X 10.5.8 is Leopard. Mac OS X Leopard was launched in 2007 and is now discontinued, so Apple isn't releasing more updates for it.
Your only option is to upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, if your Mac is compatible > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575 You can buy it in the Apple Online Store > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

I bought my mac in mid 2007 but how to be sure it belongs to the supported MacBookPro?
The webside http://www.appleserialnumberinfo.com/ tells me the latest supportet sytem is Lion 10.7.4 (which I am using).
How can I figure out if an upgrade would be good (in tearms of performance) or not?
    Thanks for any help,

  • Advice on 512 SSD for mid-2010 MBP

I have an i7, mid-2010 MBP with self-upgraded 8GB and I'd like to replace the HD with an SSD. I think now prices have come down enough for me to afford this and I would like advice on doing this, please. I am running Mavericks but will upgrade to Yosemite well before doing the swap. I've read that some firmware needs to be updated/patched before replacing an MBP's HD with an SSD and that Mavericks might have trouble with them. I do not understand the details, I'm afraid. I have found a couple of SSDs on eBuyer and would like advice on the right drive:

TL;DR: Is there anything I need to know before I go ahead and order an equivalent SSD to replace my MBP's HD and are there any gotcha's I should know about regarding firmware/drivers etc?
    Thanks,
    Matt

I love Crucial SSDs - I've four now. If I were you, I would go for the M550 512GB. It's the latest Crucial technology and a bit faster than the MX100 series. Flashing new firmware is pretty straight-forward, although you usually need access to an optical drive to burn a disc to boot from.

  • I can't upgrade my macbook mid 2007 to maverick its because is to old ? help me  guys

i need help guys i dont know why i can not upgrade my macbook 13-inch mid 2007 from os x lion 10.7.5 to maverick

No, the 2007 MacBook will not be able to run Mountain Lion and Mavericks,
It's mainly the video card. The Models 2,1 through 4,1 have video cards with non-upgradeable 32bit drivers. The model 5,1 Late 2008 and newer have at least the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 64bit drivers. Mountain Lion and Mavericks require 64bit native drivers. Mountain Lion and Mavericks no longer support Intel's GMA 950 or GMA X3100 graphics processors.
While Lion used some 32 bit and a lot of 64 bit code, Mountain Lion and Mavericks are pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.

  • Type of Video Display "Out" Port on Mid-2006 and mid-2007 MBP's?

    Howdy
The subject line above kind of says it all. I would like to know what type of video out port exists on these two models of MBP's: mid-2006 and mid-2007? In other words, what kind of Apple adapter would I have to buy to use these ports? Mini-DisplayPort, etc.?
    Thanks!
    DaveW

Kappy, thank you for your fast reply. But, I am puzzled by it. A standard DVI port is rather Large and has many pins and the crosswise electrical flat pin. Are you saying that this large type of standard DVI port is present and physically fits on the edge of a Mac Book Pro?

  • Bootcamp 5 for mid-2010 MBP troubles...

Hello community, I've been having some frustration with Bootcamp 5.0 and up now with my Macbook Pro mid-2010 model. I've had bootcamp running fine with windows 7 before Apple released 5, but I've read that for some reason that my model does not support the support software. All i am trying to do is have my bootcamp setup how i had it before, which is just the windows 7 bootcamp partition with my mouse and everything working fine. Backlit keyboard and such isn't too important, i'm just more focused on the basic functionality. So does anyone know if there's any workaround this? maybe alternate drivers i could download after i reinstall my windows 7?
    Thank you very much guys!
    Opher

I wish I could but i already wiped out my previous Windows 7 setup completely. I'm basically starting fresh. I just mentioned that because it worked on the model before so I thought it would be possible for it to work now

  • One upgrade possible for Ibook and Imac?

    Hi there,
lots of great info on the site and very helpful just with what I've found.
Could not find anything that tells me what version of OSX I could possibly upgrade to that would help both my machines.
I need to upgrade to 10.5 for blackberry app to work. Not sure if I can find and use a version of 10.5 that will allow me to updgrade both my 10.3.x Ibook G3 AND my Imac (Intel) running 10.4.11. I do realize that Ibook will not be able to run Leopard.
    Any thoughts would be welcome.
In addition, I've been using an internet stick (no DSL in the area) as my connection on my Imac but relegated the Ibook to backup duty for wordprocessing since I can't connect the stick to it. I've tried to set up a network that would allow me to have the Ibook share the Imac connection, but to no avail. If anyone has experience with doing this, that would help also.
    Thanks,

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
The combined update for Mac OS X 10.3 (to 10.3.9) for the iBook can be found at this link:
    http://www.apple.com/support/panther/
Explanation: Although the iBook G3 (Dual USB) is technically capable of running Mac OS X 10.4, some people (myself included) believe that Mac OS X 10.3.9 is the optimal version of the OS to run on the iBook. My reasoning on the matter is due to the limited logic board RAM on the iBook G3 (Dual USB). Panther (10.3) is able to run on the logic board RAM in most iBooks G3 (Dual USB) (128 MB on the vast majority of them), while Tiger (10.4) requires 256 MB of RAM to run. So if you should ever have a RAM problem while running Tiger, you can't test whether that is the problem by removing the extra RAM module.
If you mean you'd like a single upgrade path for both computers, I'm afraid that's not possible.
Are you running a wireless connection for the internet? Is the iBook equipped with an original AirPort Card? I'm not certain what an "internet stick" is, exactly? With no DSL in your area, are you on dial-up, then?

  • Upgrading RAM on Mid 2007 Mac Mini

My mother has a Mid 2007 Mac Mini, with 512MB RAM. In the past year or two, we've noticed its performance has been slowing. How much would upgrading to 1 or 2 GB of RAM help with the speed?

A fair bit, but only if she installed many Dashboard widgets or RAM intensive applications.  Better that she leave the machine on overnight in screen saver, not energy saver mode, and make sure her hard disk isn't too full*:

And if then things are still slow, consider upgrading the RAM to the limit allowed by the machine according to specs*:

  • How do I find setup instructions for mid 2007 iMac20?

Just had HD replaced by Apple on my iMac20 mid 2007 Lion.  No data survived, & Time Machine drive also failed, so I have nothing but the very basics, cannot find set up instructions.  Apple named the disk Apple.  It doesn't show up on my desktop.  I'm not experienced on system changes.  The manual doesn't help - cant find setup assistant on my computer, either.  Can someone please steer me to the information?

I am using ML so it may be slightly different but for the Apple disk on the desktop try:- Finder/Preferences and select 'Show Hard disk on the desktop'.
For Mail again use the preferences in Mail to setup your mail accounts, you will need you account details and passwords. Your ISP may have instructions on its web site on how to setup mail for your particular ISP.

  • Any Configuration possible for Payment terms???

    Hello Experts,
The Credit Control Manager would like to know if there is
any configuration possible in SPRO that can allow user to change the payment terms in an order to a lower level
but not at a higher level.
e.g. Payment terms can change from 60Days to 30Days but not from 30Days to 60Days.
    Please answer me ASAP.
    Regards,
    Praveen

    Hi Praveen,
Please check that in IMG through this path
    SPRO>Sales and Distribution>Master data>Business partner>Customers>Billing document>Define Terms of payment.
If you are not able to change you can define new payment terms then you can assign that to the customer master.
I hope it will help you,

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
As per checking the specifications of the phone, VoIP is not supported by the Nokia Asha 306. However, you can download an application in the Nokia Store such as Nimbuzz or similar application. The said application supports messaging and chat services over internet.
    Hope this helps.
