Any USB TV tuner that will work on S10?

I've thought about adding a USB TV tuner, but the minimum system requirements seem beyond the S10's powers.   Does anyone have experience using a USB TV tuner successfully on the netbook?     Any concerns?   For example, is there enough juice in the S10 to both watch and record?
Thanks,
Kevin

I use a similiar card as kalvin and he is right, it's best to only use the drivers from the installer and leave the app. alone.
I am using the DScaler app. which is free, open source and fantastic!

Sorry about above 'pre' font - for some reason it would not let me do a normal post. It should have been as follows:
    I agree.
I use a LaserWriter 16/600 PS plugged into my router via an adaptor.
There are probably many old Color StyleWriters out there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StyleWriter
Some of these had Canon engines and Canon produced their own almost identical versions.

  • Is there any version of GoLive that will work on Lion?

My brother upgraded my dad's computer to Lion without realizing the PowerPc issue. Instead of trying to teach my dad how to use Dreamweaver, is there any version of GoLive (5? 6?) that would still work on the Lion OS?
    thanks.

Dreamweaver is mainly a backend coder and to even do anything on the front end it is not easy to do... it takes way too much time to do simple tasks, where GoLive was one step, dreamweaver is multiple steps.... I have worked with Dreamweaver and for the life of me I cannot understand why Adobe THINKS this is for designers... this program is pure coding...   and I understand coding is important  for major sites, but to make a quick graphic friendly designed site, ephasis on the word QUICK, DW fails... If you want to create a new website today you have these options
1 - Dreamweaver - way too much coding, not graphic friendly, UI sucks, work around sucks, too time consuming
2 - Fireworks, Rapidware, etc.. this pretty UI's but lack some power and neccessary under the hood things that are important
3 - Hand Code HTML - um... yea.. that's fun as a designer... that's like .. before you can paint your picture, you have to hand weave the canvas yourself
4 - use GoLive, as long as you don't have Apple Lion...
5 - Find new rsources like word press.. that is how desperate designers are to do sites... they'll use word press to do that, as even word press is better than dreamweaver....
Isn't it sad that TONS of people are still launching GoLive from CS2 and that it's the program of choice to design and noone has come with a logical solution, which would be to take CS2 versions and upgrade it.... GoLive 9 sucks...
My point is, I want to see some agressive person create a program that is like golive...

  • I have question about hooking up an external hdd to a time capsule and still have my printer hooked up as well. Anyone got any tips for me, how to do it and what brand of harddrive that will work best for me 1 or 2 TB

i have question about hooking up an external hdd to a time capsule and still have my printer hooked up as well. Anyone got any tips for me, how to do it and what brand of harddrive that will work best for me 1 or 2 TB

You just need a powered hub.. if you already use one then fine.
Plug in just about any external hard disk will work fine. Format has to be readable by the TC.. ie fat32.. or much better HFS+.. plug it into a Mac to prepare the drive.
Pick whatever size suits.. nowadays 2TB are most economical.
WD, Seagate have goobled up all the minor players.. so pick one.
Whatever suits your budget and asthetics.
NOTE.. The USB on the TC is fine for printers.. IMHO it is the wrong way to go with USB disks.. use the internal disk of the TC.. USB is less than half the native speed plugged into a Mac.. TC to USB is slow.. far slower than internal drive.. or using external drive as external.

There seems to be a problem, just now, with the USB 3 ports on the new MBP's supporting eternal USB 3 drives. Some people have no luck at all - can't even recognize the drive - and some are reporting USB 2 speeds (those who drives are recognized). I'd call a dealer such as LaCie or OWC to see if they have USB 3 drives that actually work with MBP's with USB 3 ports. You may have to wait for a software/firmware update.

  • Can anyone recommend a USB CF card reader that will work in my Macbook Pro Retina? My USB card readers for CF cards do not work

At present, the only way I can load photos from a CF card to my new Macbook Pro Retina is by loading them onto an external hard drive via an old PC that can accept either of my USB card readers, then plugging the external hard drive into my MBP. Neither the USB card reader or the cable that comes with the Canon HDSLR camera will transfer photos directly to my MBP. I find it unbelievable that I have to go to a PC to load photos because I can't do it with my new MBP.
Has anyone found a reliable USB CF card reader, or one that connects via thunderbolt or HDMI, at any price, that will work directly with the new MBP Retina?

    This is what we need:
Location photoshoot - we use the Canon EOS 5D  Mk II still camera & the Canon FX100 pro camcorder.
CF cards are: SanDisk Extreme UDMA & SanDisk Extreme Pro UDMA 6 for video (I think they are both Type II) My Mac recognises them both as FAT 32 format
My MBPRetina is on the latest version of Mountain Lion OSX 10.83
the files from the camcorder will transfer to my MacBook Pro Retina directly via the camera's cable but it is quite slow & it means I cannot continue to film while downloading files but this we can live with.
the files from the still camera Canon EOS 5D  Mk II will not transfer directly via the camera's cable - have yet to get the Canon software to download, but via the camera's cable will not help anyway as we need to have the still camera free to keep shooting.
We need to be able to take out the CF card from the first part of the shoot & download the still shots while just on the Macbook's battery power, while we insert a fresh CF card back into the still camera to continue with the next part of the shoot simultaneously (while the first card is downloading.)
The files from the first part of the shoot will be both in RAW (.CR2) & Jpeg format. We just need to quickly transfer the jpegs, then I do a quick sort, batch the best ones as black/white images, & use these in a client slideshow immediately after part 2 of the shoot.
Obviously we need fast data transfer speeds, & rely on the MBP's battery power while on a location shoot.
The card readers I have tried are an older specific CF card reader branded as Palm, & a USB 2 multi card reader branded as Travel Flash. With both readers, the lights on the readers flash on & off, & the MBP recognises the card & the files will even appear both in Finder & in i-Photo, so it starts importing, then aborts with an error message saying:
'The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “” can’t be read or written.
    (Error code -36)'
    & another message saying:
'the disk was not ejected properly'.
So it appears the MBP does read the CF cards but the card readers don't stay connected, no matter what angle I put them on or however many times I re-connect them.
Yes, they are probably cheap & I want to buy a decent one.
    So, in summary:
the card reader needs to work when the MBPR is only on battery power (I read in some forums that some USB card readers aren't so reliable on the laptop's battery power)
the card reader needs to be quite fast. I have read the USB 3 readers won't read CF cards at higher than USB 2 speeds. Is this true? Are the firewire connected ones faster, & if so, are they still reliable on the MBP's battery power?
From research, it appears my problem is associated with my specific model of Mac & platform, being MacBook Retina on Mountain Lion OSX Version 10.83. If any of the recommended card readers have been successful with this, plese let me know.
Thanks heaps for the suggestions so far.

  • I need a USB cord for a 3rd generation, original model, iPod Touch. The cord for my IPhone 3SG wont work. Can I buy a USB cord that will work?

I have a 3rd generation, original model iPod Touch. My USB conneror cable cord is worn out. I cannot use the newer cord that works with my iPhone 3SG. Can I get a version of the cord that will work with the oroginal version of an iTouch, 3rd generation iPod Touch?
    Thanks for any input.

There is no difference in the cable for the iPod touch and iPhones.
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
For info, what iPod do you have? You said"I have a 3rd generation, original model iPod Touch"
The original iPod touch is the 1G iPod touch.

  • Any USB TV Tuner with DVB-T2 that is compatible with Mavericks?

As per topic, I wanted to replace my TV brought back in 2005 with a Mac Mini + TV tuner combination.
As my area (Singapore) is moving over to use DVB-T2, I need a USB TV tuner that can play TV in this format.
I know there is something call Boot Camp, but I try not to use it if possible since that Mini has only 160GB HDD.

Try this company, I don't know if they have any thing suitable but they specialise in TV for Mac. I bought one of their products forces with  UK TV about 6 years ago, it still works well.

Sounds like you actually have a 1st generation as those cannot update beyond iOS 3.1.3.

The 30-pin connector on the iPhone 4 dock might not have all the connector pins to do video.
I'm 99% sure the Universal Dock does have the pins (and therefor supports video out).

  • I'm trying to update iPhoto 7.1.5 to current versions so I can get my photos onto iCloud to access from my iPad.  I can't seem to find an upgrade route that will work?  Any suggestions?

I'm trying to update iPhoto 7.1.5 on my old iMac (running  10.9.5) to current versions so I can get my photos onto iCloud to access from my iPad.  I can't seem to find an upgrade route that will work?  Any suggestions?

For Mavericks you need to upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1.
You cannot buy this version from the AppStore, since the current version is iPhoto 9.6, and that requires Yosemite. The easiest route for you would be to upgrade to Yosemite. Then you can simply buy the newest version of iPhoto from the App Store and can use iCloud Photo Library (iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ), once it has been release for the Mac as well early next year.
If you want to stick with Mavericks, you'll have limited iCloud features, only the Photo Streams  (iCloud: iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ), but no iCloud Drive (iCloud Drive FAQ) and iCloud Photo Library.  And to upgrade iPhoto you need to buy an iPhoto '11 installer. It comes as part of iLife '11. You can try to buy a boxed version from Amazon or try to find it at eBay.  Once installed on Mavericks, download the iPhoto '11 updaters from the apple Support Downloads page.

  • Is there ANY wireless mouse that will work with the iPad 2 and Apple's Wireless Keyboard?

I have the iPad 2 and Apple's Wireless Keyboard and would like to purchase a wireless mouse that will accommodate my Apple products. I do understand that Apple's Magic Mouse is not compatible with the iPad 2, but would like to hear if there is any possibility that i could use a wireless mouse with my iPad.
      Thanks :)

You don't have to purchase a mouse. You already have one, it's wireless and the only one that will work on an iPad.

As already provided, if you don't have such in your iTunes library, on your computer, then there is no way to put it back on your phone. Apps are DRM protected, so even if you found a copy somewhere, you wouldn't be able to use it.

It's not that simple. You need a "smart" device to connect a hard drive to, like a Time Capsule, or another computer, or an Airport Extreme/Express that was made to share a drive, or some other brand router that has a USB port for sharing a drive, etc.
