Any use of Quicktime causes a "Quicktime needs to update" window.
I have been a longtime user. Anything that even triggers quick time player through plugin, Itunes, or other ways seems to make it say that it is outdated and needs to run an update. It has been doing that for nearly 2 months or more by now. And it seems to occur whenever I am on the internet. I use Firefox and I also use Opera on my other computer. On both ends when I go to a page that plays sound or opens a TIFF image I get the update window.
Can I please have this looked into. I am often rather nervous when everthing isn't working as it should. It it likely a good idea to remove and reinstall?
Hiya. Usually the misplaced old QuickTime componentry that causes this issue (that we found off in the other thread) is installed by a different program (than QuickTime itself). Video converters, codec packs or some media players that that allow you to play quicktime content without installing "QuickTime proper" are the usual culprits. But older games and whatnot might do this sort of thing too.
Can you recall if this started happening immediately after installing something like that a couple of months ago?

If it is OSX Snow Leopard Installation DVD then yes this disc contains the BootCamp Drivers version 3.x and is needed after the installation of Windows to install the BootCamp Drivers.
With OSX Lion BootCamp is at version 4.x and the BootCamp Drivers have to be downloaded during use of the BootCamp Assistant in OSX.

After I downloaded Firefox, I attempted to update the top four plugins, I already have adobe flash player, but I went on ahead and downloaded it again with the other three, java and two others. I then restarted my computer, and when I logged back on to face book Farmville would not load a message said if it don't load in ten seconds I would need to update the adobe flasher which is in my add and delete box. The same with Cafe world, it will not load as well! My google search is missing as well! I have no problems logging on to Face book, but I can't go to any of the applications that I normally play with now! I did updated the top four plugins as was suggested and now I'm having problems!

Can't use the DPS Tools because I need to update but can't do that...
I want to use the Indesign dps tools but when I try to make a folio my Indesign Folio builer says that I need to update my InDesign in order to use it.
But when I look in the creative cloud app and under 'help' in Indesign it says that my progam seems to be up to date...
So it says that it needs an update of Indesign but I cannot execute an update.
Does anyone have the same problem or knows how to solve it?

Nick MeeuwsI'm not sure what causes this problem. I haven't been able to reproduce it, but I've seen it before. You might want to try creating a new account with admin rights and installing InDesign and DPS using that account. I'll ask around to see if anyone has a better solution.

Help Needed! - Updating Windows 8 to 8.1

I just purchsed refurburshed HP Envy x2 Model with windows 8 (32 bit) installed.
After downloading all windows 8 updates, I'm trying to update widows 8.1 for the last one week, however, windows update restart from 0% after downloading upto 22%. This happend 4- 5 times due to which I'm stuck (and also lost data bandthwidth of my montly plan).
I need help on following issues:
1. How can I update 100% windows. (I've already tried microsoft patches availabel for troubleshooting windows update
2. I there any way to clean install windows 8.1 through USB. (Cannot boot from USB)
3. After updateing windows 8.1 Can I change/update recvoery partition to windows 8.1 instead of factory default windows 8 recovery.
Looking forward some concrete professional assistance please.

Okay: My start page is the one Google provides: http://www.google.ca/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official and frequently it has a note underneath the search box that "You're not on the latest version of Firefox. Upgrade today to get the best of the Web!" But when I check for updates on the About Firefox window, it says my Firefox is up to date. So what is the start page looking for? Is there some setting I need to adjust? Or is this a Google marketing ploy to get me to switch to Chrome?
I tentatively think I have the solution; this is for when the session id value 'thing', in about:config, referred to in other answers is already on the default/rest state.
I am assuming, I don't what to imply certainty in-case there is a value wrong in our browsers, that the problem stems from the fact that our homepage is no longer the default for Firefox.
So, go to 'Options'>'General' and delete the homepage. This will reset it to the new address, which is 'about:home'.

Adobe Shockwave Player crashes at literally any use of it in any browser
Ok, so this started happening two days ago, and I've been trying to fix this for a total of six hours to no avail. I tried to watch a YouTube video, but the page stops loading halfway, and I get a drop down message saying Shockwave has crashed. The tab also takes about five seconds to close out of, which is much slower than usual. Now it happens literally anytime flash is being used. On amazon, hell, even trying to make an account to post this question was a nightmare. I've uninstalled every adobe product and reinstalled it, but even some of the uninstallers have crashed. I did a system restore, but apparently my oldest restore was two days ago, so I can't do much in that regard. What the hell is going on? I think the stress has taken five years off my life, and I really don't want to have to wipe my desktop because of this stupid thing. If any of you guys have any ideas or have fixed this problem in the past, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Need to run windows on new imac with lion. where do i get windows for mac?
I have a new iMac and am new to Apple after 30+ years with PC-based hardware & software. First of all, and not to offend, but anyone who says Mac computers are easier to use than Windows computers must be talking about people who just came out of the jungle and are seeing their first computer. Sorry, I just needed to get that off my chest. That aside, I have legacy software that I need to run on the Mac (actually, one of the programs is CALLED Legacy). I'm told that if I want to use Bootcamp or Parallels software I need to install Windows on the Mac. Is that a special kind of Windows made for Mac, or will just any old Windows do? I've checked Bing and Google but they're so "ad-crazed" that I couldn't find anything.
I'm sure that, after 30 more years, I'll probably have the Mac OS down and find Windows 21 (or whatever they'll call it) to be difficult to use. .Nope. Any flavor should work including both 32- and 64-bit versions. See these for more:

CPU upgrade - do I need to update bios??
I got a KT3 Ultra 2 6380E mobo with Bios V5.60 and I want to put in a AMB 2600+ Barton (333)
Do I need to update my bios to V5.70???
I dont really want to flash it unless I have to - On the MSI bios update monitor it aint clear if V5.60 supports the 'batron' 2600 as well as the normal XP 2600 cpu
And a little second point about clearning CMOS - again is this needed when upgradeing CPUs? - Can I damage anything if I aint got the correst Bios or not cleared the CMOS ??

bought referbished macbook pro oct 2011 version, just set it up using time machine and quicklime pro has disappeared. I have quicktime but not quicktime pro. Any ideas? thanks!
Try, in preferences, resetting 64 bit to 32 bits. Should work fine. the older vidoes, etc will not work with 64 bit. Had the same problem/scare. Let us know if this helps and works!

OK. Following instructions, I've uninstalled the old Flash Player and installed the right one, and videos are now playing. Thanks for pointing me to the other posts on this site. YouTube and other videos are now playing
Some of the videos still play jerkily (they don't stream evenly). A few stream evenly once they've been allowed to buffer fully. (I think I'm using these terrms correctly.) Is this solely caused by low bandwidth, or is there something—an adjustment of some kind—that I can do with Flash Player to have online videos stream evenly, even from the moment I start them?
As I mentioned, to bypass this uneven streaming while watching online, I download the videos and watch them usually using Quicktime Player 7.6.4. Still, they don't always play evenly, but for the most part do.
I've just tested bandwidth and I'm told:
5.63 Bbps Download speed
0.63 Mbps Upload speep

for some inexplicable reason, I cannot get the Quicktime plugin to update from v7.7.3 to the CURRENT 7.6.6 . My plugins view tells me I'm at risk and need to update but try as I might, through all the known update avenues, it won't take. I consider myself and above average Mac User. Please advise. Thank you
Someone recently noted a problem staying logged on the Huffington Post since it became connected with AOL. The workaround for that is to change your connection setting here:

Click the "Settings" button and choose either "No Proxy" or "Use System Settings" option, and OK the change.
Not sure whether Washington Post could be affected by that same setting.
In reviewing your extensions, I'm puzzled that you have both DoNotTrackMe and SavvyConnect. The first one seems to aggressively block certain communications with websites (potentially affecting functionality) while the second one seems to report on your browsing habits (they better pay well is all I can say). Have you tried disabling both of those to see whether that has any effect?

Which QuickTime Player do I need
I found 2 versions of QuickTime Player on my computer. Version 10.0 is in the applications folder and version 7.6.6 is located in the utilities folder. Do I need both versions? If not, how do I delete the version that I will not need?? Thanks sooooo much.
Snow Leopard users can have two versions of QuickTime Player (X and 7.6.6).
QuickTime X is not available to earlier Mac OS's or is there any Windows version. Snow Leopard only.
Only 7.6.3 (or current 7.6.6) can be upgraded to "Pro". There is no "Pro" upgrade for QuickTime X.
QuickTime X can't be used to open many (older) QuickTime formats. It also has features not found in QuickTime Player 7.6.6.

RTSP using authentication not working in Quicktime 7 Pro
Hello I upgraded Quicktime 7 to Quicktime Pro in order to stream a video camera feed using RTSP string. If I use rtsp://ip_number/cam/realmonitor?channel=0&subtype=0 it will prompt me for the password. I then enter the password and see the video in a couple of seconds. But if I use the string with user authentication rtsp://user:password@ip_number/cam/realmonitor?channel=0&subtype=0 Quicktime says that it cannot connect to the server. I need to get this to work in order to use another program in a project I am doing, but I can't get past this step. Any suggestions? The rtsp string with the password works in VLC player, but the program I am using needs Quicktime 7 because I save the video as a reference file.
