Any way of importing from Access to SQL Server?

I have a huge store of information in Access. But now I'm required to use SQL Server.
Is there any way of importing the information from Access to SQL Server by Java programming?
Or is there a manual way of doing that?
Thank you in advance.

I need to use Java because this is for a client. I
can't expect the client to follow those steps. As a
result, I want to create something simple for the
client to convert from Access to SQL Server.
Any other way of doing that?
That argument does not make sense.
There is no way that a 'client' is going to be able to manage MS SQL Server without understanding how it works. MS SQL Server is a complex database and requires at least some dedicated support, even if it is only part time.
For example consider the following:
-MS Access does not have a log file. MS SQL Server does. How is the log file going to be sized?
-If the log file fills up (like for a run away query) MS SQL Server comes to a screeching halt. How is that problem going to be fixed?
Now maybe you are going to provide that support, which means you can run those scripts. Or the client is going to support it in which case they need to have someone who understands it - and they will need to know how to run those scripts (since it is rather basic knowledge.)

  • RH server 8 - upscaling from Access to SQL Server 2008?

    Hi gang-
We are currently running RoboHelp Server 8 on the default Access database and Tomcat. We would like to increase the number of help projects that are tracked by the RH Server, and have concerns that Access will handle the increased load, so we are considering upsizing to SQL Server 2008.
Our IT people think this should be fairly straightforward, but want to know if Adobe provides any tool or has any recommendations when upsizing from Access to SQL Server. They are concerned about retaining things like primary and secondary keys, as well as any indexes that are currently in Access.
If anyone has experience with such a migration, please share!
    Thanks,
    -=Ed.

We are also currently on an Access DB and considering (have been for some time but that's a different story) upgrading to SQL Server. There is no migration tool from Access to SQL Server provided so you'd have to allow some additional effort if you want to retain the data. I am not an expert on DBs but I'm sure there are ways to migrate the data. I have found a few links when searching on Google. For example:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/237980
Adobe does provide a cheat sheet at the link below which may be useful to you.

  • Any way to import from another drive and leave clips in place?

    Hi
Is there any way to import from other drives where you can leave your media in place?
Whenever I've imported clips from another drive I had to copy them to the library, while clips on the same drive as the library I could leave in place. Besides getting a bit tired of FCP treating like a kid with Alzheimer's, what would one do, say, when a drive gets full? I could see big projects needing more than a single drive.
    best
    elmer

LIke Russ said, the copy of the entire folder structure is similar to creating a camera archive. This copy or archive is treated just as if it were a camera card - in particular, "leave in place" is not available, and you have the option go import just parts of clips if you want.
so technicay even though they reside in a hard drive this is like importing from camera, as opposed to "import from file".
I Will try to describe how I handle my media. I hope this will help clarify things a bit. I am not saying thus is the way to do things, but it is my way.
I keep archives of the camera cards, which I then erase and reuse.
I import clips from my camera archives which I store as external media (copying to a folder of my choosing instead of into the library). These movie files, plus other files that I get from other sources, can be later imported and used in other libraries using "leave in place".
And all of this of course needs to be regularly backed up.

  • Is there any way to import from ipod back to itunes??

I have a problem... my hardrive over heated last week, and I lost EVERYTHING. I have to start completely over, and just redownloaded itunes to my fixed computer. luckily, I had a good amount of my music saved on my ipod. however, is there any way to import the other way around, and move music from my ipod back onto my computers and itunes??? i cant stand having an empty library!
    -briana

Bit of a pain but possible:
    1) My documents, tools, folder options, show hidden files
    2) open itunes
    3) edit, preferences
The most important bit coming up:
    4) LEAVE PREFERENCES OPEN THROUGHOUT WHOLE PROCESS, OTHERWISE IPOD WILL BE WIPED.
    5) plug in ipod
    6) open my computer
    7) ipod should be in devices with removable storage
    8) into ipod
    9) into ipod control
    10) into music
    11) select all
    12) copy
    13) into my documents
    14) into my music
    15) into itunes (folder)
    16) into itunes music (folder)
    17) paste
    when the paste has finished:
    18) use remove ipod icon on toolbar to get ipod disconnected safely
    19) into itunes program
    20) close preferences
    21) file, add folder to library
    22) find your way back to itunes music folder
and there it all is. Go back to hiding hidden folders in tools, folder options when done, or they can get in the way (or deleted by mistake!)
no idea how to do any of this on a mac, i'm a PC user!
    take it easy,

  • Is there any way to Import From Camera (dv) in a way that Final Cut Pro can later import everything, including the audio

I know iMovie dv to Final Cut Pro has no audio.  At least with my old events.  But is there any way I can make it so future dv files Imported From Camera in iMove 2011 will later work in FCP?

    Hi
    Yes and No
And it depend's on what quality You want and how much problem You stand in FC - and what version of FinalCut You mean.
    • FinalCut Pro-X - I have no clue at all
    • FinalCut Express and Pro (till 6.0.6) - I'm very familiar to.
    • If You take out the Imported/Captured material from Event's - it seems to be 100% OK - but in wrong codec so it will work in FinalCut BUT with a lot of RENDERINGS - every slight change = Need of RENDERING. To much for me.
    • If You aim to do some Editing in iMovie them move over to FinalCut = Moving from Event's to Project's result in that every second line in the picture is discarded ( and can not be repaired ) so the project will lose a lot of quality - whatever way You use to Export/Move it over to FinalCut.
So at least I'm better of by Capture in FinalCut from Start as I can keep 100% quality till Movie is done.

  • Query conversion from access to sql server

I have sql in access I need to convert to sql server . I am stuck three days please help me
TRANSFORM First(Eval1to4.answer) AS FirstOfanswer SELECT Eval1to4.evalOid, Membershiptypemap.mappedvalue as membership, First(Eval1to4.answer) AS [Total Of answer] FROM (Members RIGHT JOIN (Eval1to4 LEFT JOIN Orders ON Eval1to4.evalOid = Orders.oid) ON Members.CID
    = Orders.cid) LEFT JOIN MembershipTypeMap ON (Members.MembershipStatus = MembershipTypeMap.membershipstatus) AND (Members.Membership = MembershipTypeMap.membershiptype) WHERE Orders.program = 20141128 AND Eval1to4.evalProgID=20141128 GROUP BY Eval1to4.evalOid,
    Membershiptypemap.mappedvalue PIVOT Eval1to4.questionID

There isn't an exact equivalent to pivot queries in t-sql.
There is a pivot operator but it requires that you know and explicitly specify the pivoted columns when you're creating your code.
Just a heads up... Some one here will most assuredly either provide you with or point you to code that will allow you to do a "dynamic pivot"... Yes, it will allow you to pivot the data the way you're used to doing it in Access (without having
to specify the pivoted column names). The problem with dynamic pivots is the fact that they are useless. You can't put them in views, functions or stored procs and I'm not aware of any reporting software that can work with a variable number of input columns.
So, unless you simply want to copy & paste from SSMS to Excel, they aren't good for anything other than patting yourself on the back.
So... My 1st suggestion is to not pivot the data at all in SQL. Instead, pivot the data in whatever application you're using to display the data.
Since no one ever wants to hear suggestion #1, use aggregated case expressions. Based on the code you provided, it should look kinda like this...
    SELECT
    Eval1to4.evalOid,
    Membershiptypemap.mappedvalue as membership,
    SUM(CASE WHEN Eval1to4.answer = 1 THEN 1 END) AS Answer1,
    SUM(CASE WHEN Eval1to4.answer = 2 THEN 1 END) AS Answer2,
    SUM(CASE WHEN Eval1to4.answer = 3 THEN 1 END) AS Answer3,
    SUM(CASE WHEN Eval1to4.answer = 4 THEN 1 END) AS Answer4,
    SUM(CASE WHEN Eval1to4.answer = 5 THEN 1 END) AS Answer5
    FROM
    Eval1to4 e
    JOIN Orders o
    ON e.evalOid = o.oid
    JOIN Members m
    ON m.CID = o.cid
    LEFT JOIN MembershipTypeMap mtm
    ON m.MembershipStatus = mtm.membershipstatus
    AND m.Membership = mtm.membershiptype
    WHERE
    o.program = 20141128
    AND e.evalProgID = 20141128
    GROUP BY
    e.evalOid,
    mtm.mappedvalue
#3... There is still the "PIVOT" operator. I personally don't use it because the aggregated case expressions are more flexible... But some people love them, so do a little Googleing and decide for yourself.
#4... Dynamic Pivot... If you're dying to try it, the interwabs are full of examples... or wait a bit and someone will post some for you.

  • Any way to migrate from one 10.5 server to another?

    Hi,
I just lost a 10.5 Server installation, it just won't boot anymore. Since no one seems to be able to help with that problem, I needed to move on and install fresh. However, the old installation took considerable work. I would hate to have to do it all over again. So the question is: is there a migration assistant or something similar to migrate one OSX Leopard Server installation to another machine / hard drive?
    Cheers.
PS: I tried carbon copy cloner, the cloned instance won't boot up either. I guess some files have been corrupted.

    Yes, you can.
Open: System Preferences > Hardware > Keyboard & Mouse > Mouse, select menu for the side
buttons, turn it off or select another use for the side buttons.
It takes a little practice, but you can train yourself not to be pressing the side buttons inadvertently.
    That's the other option.
To still use expose, you can use the keyboard. I have expose assigned to F10. Those settings can be
adjusted using System Prefs as well.

  • Is there any way of importing stuffs from Microsoft Access to SQL Server?

I have quite a big store of information Microsoft Access DB, but now i am required to switch to SQL Server?
Is there any way of importing to SQL Server, either by Java programming or manually?
    Thank you in advance.

I like to give some tips on how to fulfil the requirement.. I haven't tried this. If you succeeded, it is well and good.
    1) Using Java:
If you like to Java to import the data from MS Access to SQL Server, you have to write a JDBC Program in such a way that it has to retrieve the data from each MSAccess tables and store it in temperory java varaible. After writng into the temp. varaibles, the same thing will be written into SQL Server. The whole process is repeated for all the tables in MS Access.
    2) Manual Process:
Try to get the data scripts from MS-Access for all the tables and Load the same into SQL Server
I hope that Manual Process consumes less time compared in writing the codes for transformation..
I hope that you got some idea on reading this. If you have any doubts, try to get back to me..

  • Import photos without copying? I Have thousands of photos on a hard drive separate from my mac and i dont have enough space on my mac to copy them to. Any way to import without copying to the local hard drive?

Import photos without copying? I Have thousands of photos on a hard drive separate from my mac and i dont have enough space on my mac to copy them to. Any way to import without copying to the local hard drive?

Yes, but you might want to think carefully about it.
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing. The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
This is an attractive option for some users at face value, but it contains a significant number of issues that you might want to consider before making the decision to run a Referenced Library
    How to do it:
iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck the box at 'Copy items to the iPhoto Library'
Now when you import iPhoto makes an alias in the Library Package that points to the stored file. Note: iPhoto still creates a thumbnail of the image and it makes a Preview of edited photos inside the Library Package.
    Issues?
    1. You are responsible for file management. That's more work:
You must first move the files from your camera to the storage location before importing.
If you want to delete files then you must first trash them from iPhoto and then afterwards find them in your storage and trash them.
Thereafter, you cannot move the files on early versions of iPhoto at all, on iPhoto 08 and later you may move them on the same Volume or Disk. If you move them to a new volume or disk the aliases my break. If they are on an different volume and you move them the aliases will break.
    You cannot rename the files.
Migrating: moving to a new machine, moving the files to another disk are all a lot more complex.
    2. You gain no extra functionality from running a Referenced Library. Nothing. This is just storage. You still manage the files via iPhoto. You edit them with iPhoto or via iPhoto's External Editor setting, otherwise you're changes will not be available in iPhoto. You don't save  byte of storage space.
    3.  If you have the Library on one volume and the photos on another you if anything changes in the path to a file (Like if you upgrade your machine, move the files on the NAS or on to another one?) then the alias will break, and you'll have to repair it manually. For every photo in the Library. One at a time.
Why do you want to run a Referenced Library?
Because my photos won't fit on my HD?
You can run a Managed library from an external disk. Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
You're worried about accessing the files?
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
