Any way to actually understand a Problem Report for Mac OS X?

Many months ago I tried to load Lion onto an external HD but as it restarted it kept freezing. I tried everything but it wouldn't boot on both the Lion or Snow Leopard on the internal drive.
I was getting the Apple screen with slight interference and the spinny thing just stopped. (2008, 24" dual core intel). I walked away to research the problem and when I returned a few hours later it started up with no issues at all on both HDs.
Whenever I perform a software update that requires a restart, it will not reboot.
Increasingly it will not start up after being turned off. I tried to leave it in sleep mode but it wouldn't come out of it.
At first it seemed as though disconnecting the USB connections from the back would fix it but not any more.
I sometimes get the Apple logo disappear and it sticks on a grey screen. Last night I had a purple screen with interference on it.
When it suddenly decides to boot, I get the standard error report which I have looked over several times but it means nothing to me.
Does it mean anything to anyone else, does it conclusively point the finger of blame to anything in particular?
Any help you can give on the matter would be great. I'm hoping I can at least make it stable until the new iMac comes out.

You were getting a Kernal Panic, the first thing I'd recommend is you begin to understand what a KP is. You can do so by studying:
Kernel Panics
Mac OS X 10.6 Help: If “You need to restart your computer” appears
Mac OS X Kernel Panic FAQ
In your system's case it KP'd at:
com.vmware.kext.vmnet          3.1.3 - last loaded 63150524205
com.vmware.kext.vmioplug          3.1.3
com.vmware.kext.vmci          3.1.3
com.vmware.kext.vmx86          3.1.3
xxx.qnation.PeerGuardian          1.1.9
com.AmbrosiaSW.AudioSupport          4.0
This is where I'd begin looking. The first thing I'd suspect is the PeerGuardian and AbrosiaSW app's. Track those down and my guess is they are either way out of date or not compatible with the version of OS X you run. You can also look at vmware Fusion and see if the version you run is out of date and needs to be updated too.
As a rule of thumb whenever updating or upgrading an OS make sure the applications on the system are up to date prior to upgrading the OS.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Problem Report for Mac OS X Kernel

Twice within half an hour I had a message I've never seen before telling me to shut down my MacBook by pressing the power key down for a few seconds.  The message took up the whole screen, I couldn't escape from it and when I did as it said, my computer had the "Problem Report for Mac OS X Kernel" report ready to send to Apple.  But when I hit "send to Apple", I get the message "Your report could not be submitted.  Please try again later."   I've tried about 5 times to submit it but it won't go through.  Does this mean I have a virus?
In case this helps, here is the problem detail that I can't send to Apple.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It is unlikely you have a virus. From other threads, it seems that Apple is no longer accepting crash reports for OS X Leopard 10.5.
Here's some guidance on troubleshooting Kernel Panics:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742

  • Inability to submit Problem Report for Mac OS X kernel

the problem reporting does not work and it gives me thing message:
    Submission failed.
Your report could not be submitted. Please try again later.

If the error is occurring in kernel space then you shouldn't expect anything on your machine to function normally from that point forward without a restart.

  • Is there any way to install age of empires 2 for mac onto macbook pro?

I recently acquired the age of empires 2 for mac game and tried to install it but it doesn't seem to read it. I have a 13" macbook pro (10.9.4 mavericks). Is there any way I could install and play this game on my laptop?

Your post somehow found its way to a little-viewed forum for Apple hardware made before 1998. I have asked the Hosts to move you to a more active and appropriate forum for your product.

  • I keep getting a 'Problem Report for Mac osx'

You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It may be covered by this program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the replacement program only applies within three years of purchase. If you wait beyond that date, Apple may refuse the service.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saver preference pane, but that's not a solution.
Most likely, the logic board will be replaced. Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility.

If you already have an iPhone backup or an iCloud backup, just follow the instructions on the page below

If you didn't back up your iPhone, try to use WhatsApp Pocket to recover your chats:

I have recently purchased an IPad Air. This comes with "IPhoto" as well as it's usual photo App. I do not have a Mac, instead I am syncing it to my windows PC. Is there any way of actually moving a picture around, (arranging photos in a single album), in either of these apps???? They claim to be able to "Organize"  or "arrange" Photos, but for the life of me I can't figure out how......could you recommend any apps that actually allow someone to move individual photos around on an IOS Device.

No, reordering within folders and albums is not supported. the yare arranged automatically by date. I found this, but I have not used any of the apps besides iPhone. You might check the descriptions to see if they do what you need.

There's only one thing you can do: make an appointment with Apple genius at the Apple retail store for a out of warranty replacement.

    Hi Ben,
both BSIS selects would become faster if you can add Company Code BUKRS as 1st field of WHERE clause, because it's the 1st field of primary key and HKONT is the 2nd field of primary key.
If you have no table index with HKONT as 1st field it's a full database access.
If possible, try to add BUKRS as 1st field of WHERE clause, otherwise ask for an additional BSIS index at your basis team.

  • Problem report for finder: finder quit unexpectedly

Last night I removed some viruses etc., from my computer that were making ads appear and also tabs opening when not wanted by random ads. I then installed virus protection, and also installed a software update. During those processes I restarted my computer a few times. The last time, finder wouldn't close down but in the end my macbook restarted and since then I have this message constantly popping up: problem report for finder - finder quit unexpectedly. I can't open up anything else and get a message saying when I try: check with developer to make sure safari (as an example) works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application.
In ten the details part it states crashed thread 0 but it also mention application specific information:
dyld: launch, loading dependant libraries, ignoring DYLD_*env vars
    and then:
    dyld error message:
    library not loaded:/ system/library/frameworks/videotoolbox.framework/versions/a/videotoolbox
    referenced from: /system/library/frameworks/qtkit.framework/versions/a/qtkit
    reason: image not found.
Please please help. It's driving me nuts. I really need my computer. So much that Im even contemplating just buying a new one if nothing works :/

FIrst, get rid of your "virus protection," which is either useless or worse than useless. Then see below.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • Problem report for safari (cannot be opened due to problem)

When I click on safari app in dock it opens to "problem report for safari" window. I have gone into disk utility and tried repairing disk permission but I haven't been successful. I haven't got the software disk to install safari from there. I found that my Mac has been having these problems since I updated my iTunes so I was able to connect my iPhone 5. I was unable to open any word documents until I installed an updated version.
This is so confusing! Perhaps my Mac needs to see a mac doctor?
    Please help :) thanks

    Hi Bee,
Thanks for your reply! I have tried to open it in apps folder. I think it might be possible I have deleted safari by replacing safari when I was moving it to a folder? If that makes sense!? I went into my trash can but its not there. I still haven't emptied trash just incase I can recover the replaced safari app.
    Cheers, Samy

  • Anyone get a huge "Problem Report for iDVD" with hundreds of lines of information?

Anyone get a huge "Problem Report for iDVD" with hundreds of lines of information? This happens right before the DVD would be finished burning but instead crashes and leaves the long report your have to scroll down several times to read. I had to take several screen captures of the screen to get the WHOLE report. Here is two:
(If there is another thread on this - just answer the question or refer me to it. I'm past due on a big project. Don't have time to read all 21,000 discussions in the iDVD thread. Be kind. Thanks )

    Some things to try first:
    1. Disconnect any and all 3rd party devices that didn't ship with your mac directly from apple (both FW and USB included).
    2. Restart your mac without any 3rd party devices attached whatsoever. That includes ext. hard drives, blue tooth devices, and any third party memory product/s. Basically, anything that doesn't come directly from apple has to go (at least while troubleshooting).
    3. Need you to dispose of the plist for iDvd also. Go to you Home folder, the one that looks like a house > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iDvd.plist and drag and drop this file/s to the trash. Make sure to first quit iDvd prior to disposing of this pref. file/s.
    4. Run apple's disc utility and repair permissions. Applicantions > Utilities > Disc Utility > Repair Permissions.
    5. Restart your mac yet again, and try iDvd one more time.
    6. If it's still at issue then please open iDvd from a separate user account and try your project one more time. If you don't know how to create a separate user account then just come on back and one of will show you how.
    Good luck.

  • Is there any way I may set low resources priority for a specific job or even all SQL jobs?

Is there any way I may set low resources priority for a specific job or even all SQL jobs?
Our database is quite big and everything works OK and very fast, except SQL jobs which are used mainly for maintenance purposes.
I have one specific job which runs for 2 minutes and takes a lot of resources which may affect execution of other stored procedure which should be executed fast. The worst part is that this job has to be executed during the most active working hours. It does
not matter for me how long will it take to execute this job. I just do not want it to use so much resources.
Also I noticed when SQL backup job (takes about 4 minute) is scheduled it also takes a lot of resources and sometimes because of that I am receiving "login timeout" error on my web site.

depending on you sql server version and edition, you can use resource governor and limit the cpu and memory.
in most typical cases , you can use the session user name and times and classify the how much cpu and memory they can use. refer : https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645892.aspx
but in your case, the problem seems to be with the maintenance jobs which could run as sql server service account.
also, if the backup are third party tool backup, you can specify the priority level and other options etc to make it less priority.
it is possible to do that even with native backups such as specifying the limiting buffercount, max transfer size, if the server is memory pressured. sometimes, stripping the backups to multiple sets across different devices, could help as well. even though
stripping the backups can introduce another complexity.
may be you need to rethink you back up\recovery strategy.
    Hope it Helps!!
