Any way to automatically fit slideshow length to music?

I've recently finished my first FCE video production - a highlight video for the high school basketball team. It got rave reviews, and I couldn't have done it without the support from this group. Thanks.
My next project is a slideshow for my graduating senior. Mom has "done all the hard work" (scanning), and now it's my turn. I've looked in the User's Guide, and poured through the forum here, but haven't found an answer to my question.
Is there a way to adjust the duration of the pictures so they end when the music ends? I suppose I could manually divide the length of the song by the number of pictures, set the duration in preferences, and then re-import the pictures, but is there an easier way? I've seen other video editing software that will adjust it automatically.
Also, does anyone have a primer on creating slideshows with FCE?
Graduation isn't until June, so we've got some time. Thanks.

I saw a podcast on how to do this. I couldn't actually find it, but here's the essential parts.
1. Put your music track down.
2. Create a slug with a length the match the music.
3. Play the music in real time and cut the slug with the razor blade tool (I don't know the short-cut that why I was trying to find the podcast, maybe someone else here knows the short-cut). The example was the cut the slug to match the beats of the music.
4. At the end of the song you will have the slug chopped into lots of slugs.
5. Replace each slug with a picture (I think there is a batch way of dropping in all of them at once, but again I don't remember the exact steps). Personal preference, but you might want the first slug to be a title instead of your first picture.
6. Change transitions, filters, movement for each picture if you want.
I saw the podcast from iTunes and it dealt with audio syncing (search for Final Cut as that's what I originally searched to find it). Since they wanted it right on the beat, they adjusted each slug's break slightly to land right on the beat by comparing it to the waveform in the audio.

If you want to delete old data automatically, I think you need develop this feature by yourself. You could code the logic methods on your project, and set a timer to execute the methods to delete old data. Any way to use the slideshow in the iphoto "Book"?

Hi All,
Currently, I want to edit slideshows and burn into IDVD. But I prefer the slideshow preview from iphoto "Book" which can edit more comments and slideshow function. Is it any way to select the slideshow from iphoto "book"? rather than just using the single function from the iphoto slideshow (which is not dynamic enough)... please help

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can create an iDVD slideshow of a book. It's relatively easy. It's described in Old Toad's Tutorial #6 - Creating an iDVD Slideshow From an iPhoto Book.. I create one for every book I buy. A great way for a group of people to view the book at once.

Any Way to Automate a Bluetooth Connection to a Specific Device?

I have 3 Magic Mice that I keep in three different work areas where I use my late 2010 MacBook Air. All mice have already been paired with the MBA.
Sometimes when I boot up in a different location, the computer will quickly initiate a connection with the Magic Mouse in that location. Other times, I have to manually use the Bluetooth menu in the finder to initiate a connection with that mouse.
Is there any way to automate (Applescript, Automator, Terminal Command within an Applescript, Keyboard shortcut, etc.) a connection to a Bluetooth device that has already been paired with a Mac?

Thank you. When I transferred all my info from my previous computer to my MacBook Air, I ended up deleting all my Bluetooth preferences because of some issues. I thought I made my Magic Mice favorites again, but I didn't. Hopefully that will make a difference. I wouldn't have checked without your reply, so THANK YOU.

Is there any way to automatically refresh multi-cam target output

I have created a multi-cam output using footages from 3 HD video cameras.
After finished the work, I had to color correct some of the original footages many times. Everytime, I had to go through the entire process of
- Loading the color-corrected footages/sequences
- finding the sync point and synching them
- creating target sequence and creating the output using the multi-cam monitor window (finished clip runs for 45 mts)
Is there any way I can instruct Premiere Pro (CS4) to refresh the final multi-cam output from the updated versions of source clips. In fact, I do keep the same sequence names for the source clips.
Alternatively, is there anyways to re-apply the sequence of how I captured multi-cam footage in the multi-cam monitor (from 3 cameras) to the newly color corrected, synched target sequence.
I am not sure whether I am making it clear myself.
My hope is someone would have faced this problem before and understand what I mean.

Thanks for your quick response. I already tried that - it didn't work for me.
My original clip is part of a premiere project where I copied the clip as another video clip of same length as the original. Then I applied 'multiply' blend mode to the video 2 to correct the over exposure. I did similar to the other 2 video footage as well.
Then I pulled all three premiere projects in to another project where I did my multi-cam work.
After my cut, if I go back and make changes to any of the underlying projects(sequences) - it doesn't get reflected on the multi-cam cut.

Is there any way to automate converting just sln files from VS2008 to VS2013 ?

My general problem is that we have a large number (approaching 300) of "local" sln files that have not been converted from VS2008 to VS2013 although their underlying vcproj files have (so they are now really vcxproj / vcxproj.filters pairs).
This happened because these projects were converted along with "global" sln files that also contain these projects and are in fact used to build product. The "local" sln files are more geared toward development, so the idea has
been to upgrade them over time as they need to be worked with in VS, which is still an option. It should also be noted that these "local" upgrades must be done so that they do not redo the vcxproj files in any way or needed adaptations get
zapped and must be redone by hand.
So ... does anyone have a suggestion how to automate the conversion of these remaining sln files
without affecting the connected proj files? devenv /upgrade does not seem to have the ability to leave the proj files alone unless I am misreading.

I sugegst you will need to check if if
these files can be created in VS2013.
Since the VS2008 is really old version, and generally we open an old project with the closed VS version, for example, I sugegst you could check whether you could open all files in VS2010, and then test it with VS2013.
In addition, I suggest you can try to open the your project solution using File | Open Project... and then pass the path to the solution project file check this issue again.
I find a similar thread about how to convert project from old version VS to VS2013, you can try the jsck's suggestion to check your issue.

Any way to automate input for input prompts

Hi all,
For times when there is a input prompt, is there any method/way we can direct pass it in via unix scripting or sql script? Specially for password change in this scenario, which is database's default prompting.
Eg. I wanna change a user password. however there will be an input prompt. any way I can automate the input passing in? I understand that we can use "alter user" , but I am trying to stick to using password [username] to perform the change.

yea, I was planning to the thing as you mentioned
pass the username, old_password and new_password as parameters, and change the password without stopping for any manual input.
Reason being my current environment is using password [username] to change password, and I try to my very best to minimise changes. I am trying to come up with the script which is capable of minimising manual entry, by issuing prompts from my script and execute any sql activity from there automatically. I have idea on how to get it work if I apply the alter user convention, just wanna check whether is there any way to do it the password [username] approach.

Any way to automatically back up my Time Machine backup drive

My backup drive had died in the past, so what I'd like to do is back up my current backup drive to another one on a regular basis.
Is there an easy way to do this? This primary backup drive has the Time Machine files on there, as well as some other critical things I'd hate to lose.
Just looking for the easiest way to automatically, or semi-automatically backup my backup.

you can do it but not with Time machine. what many people do (myself included) is have two direct backups instead of a backup of a backup. you can use [CCCloner|http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html] or [Superduper|http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html] to make a bootable backup of your main drive. these programs can also back up anything else including the TM drive.

Any ways to automate smartlist updates with Classic App?

We have been trying to find a way to automate a smartlist with a Classic app. Through EPMA this appears to be possible by modifying the ADS file, but we cannot find a workable way to do this with a Classic Planning app. Has anyone figured a way to do this? We are currently using DIM to update our Planning metadata.

I rarely update my software via iTunes and always opt for OTA method, which is what I did for IOS 7.0 upgrade. Yet, my images and videos stay intact with the 7.0 update, which I thought would be the same for 7.0.3, but boy, I was wrong. I read that a lot of people are having similar problem with this particular update cos it linked with the iTunes. I've been having problems syncing my iPhone to iTunes (on my Mac), which I presume is what others face as well...

Is there a way to automatically sort/filter the itunes music list by files that cannot be located?

I have quite a lot of files that can't be located, and want to delete them all at once rather than clicking on everyfile to choose delete. Does anybody know of a way to sort the itunes listing so that I can group them all together to delete, or a way to automatically purge them all from the itunes file?

timeline? (I have lots of stuff imported into the
project that I know isn't used on any timeline, but
I'm afraid of moving or deleting things for fear of

I'd love to get some sort of "printout" (a list or
something) of every single file.
There is, go to browser and cntrl click on any one of the columns,
and select - show/source. A new column named "source" will pop up and will show where everything "lives". Click on the header at the top and it will justify the column as well. You'll notice this won't show anything for your seq.'s. of course, but will show stills/audio/motion files...
Once you have the new column, you can drag it next to the "name" column and get a grab of it and print it if you like, or whatever.
If you want to do this for just 1 seq., then can create a new bin and double click it to open it. Cntrl-A (select all) in your main seq. and just drag all into the new bin. You will see only what's in that seq. with the "source" column right next to it.
From what I've read, you seem to get the MM thing and it's obviously what you'll need to do to archive as the guys said. But what your missing is a file path system to where everything resides.
