Any way to batch redefine named swatch colors in several AI documents?

Greetings —
I have a large number of book illustrations that all include two named swatches, Light Shadow and Dark Shadow, that need to be redefined to a new CMYK formula.
I'm not looking forward to doing this by hand for all these files. Can this be done via actions or scripting?
Thanks for any help you-all can provide!

Hmmm... Well I wanted to mark both of your answers as correct, because they both work great, but it appears that the system will not allow you to do that...
I tried both methods and they work like a charm! Thanks guys! I was actually trying something similar to what Steve suggested on my own, but I was trying it with the wrong pallete.. I was trying to drag colors and stops from the gradient pallette instead of the color palette. Either method will work great depending on what I want to do, one allows me to cherry pick certain colors and the other gets me everything fast. Thanks again guys for the thorough and effective answers!

  • Any way to batch change all my title type slide colors?

I need to change about 50 titles I made in a timeline (project) to a different background color.  Any way to do that in batch, or do I need to go through one at a time and fix them.  Attached is a picture that makes it more clear what I mean.

You'll have to change each title individually.  This is where some type of CSS functionality with titles would come in handy.

  • Any way to batch rename photos in Finder?

After three days of wrestling with iPhoto '09, rebuilding libraries, etc., and following advice of helpful knowledgeable folks on Apple Support Communities, I have failed to prevent the crashes that follow every attempt to export retitled photos to a USB drive or garbbling up the the photos in the newly created libraries.  I am still open to tips from the Apple Support Communities but my hopes are not high.
Another way I am hoping to complete the task is to drag the photos from iPhoto to the USB drive (or Desktop), but the new titles do not come through and all revert to the original file names which are cryptic.  So, my question is if there is a way to "batch" rename the photos on USB, but such that I can enlarge the thumbviews to enable me to better identify which photo is which?  I can not find a way to rename the files in batches in Finder.  Does OSX offer any utility in any of its other features?  Do I need to get an App online?

You can use this Automator Service.
    1. Open Automator
    2. Select Service
    3. Select Rename Action, [✓] Show this Action when the workflow runs.
    4. Save as Rename
    The Workflow is:
Now, select the files in Finder, right-click and select Rename:

Jailbreaking is actually not illegal due to exemptions in the DMCA documentation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_jailbreaking#cite_note-22).
I've got no explanation on to why the trusty interface for the old iPod style app was butchered, unfortunately (I think we're all at a loss, besides someone being given too much free reign). I came here to supplement the original question with, another alternative question:
Is there a way, similar to downgrading 3rd party apps, downgrade the Music app or restore the old iPod app as an additonal app? Without jailbreaking?

  • Any way to batch add a frame of black at the end to several videos?

I'm working with a huge number of files that I have to convert to MP4, but I was asked to put one frame of black at the end. I didn't find any way to do this in Media Encoder, I'm importing the files onto Premiere where I have a second of black video at the 30;00 mark since all the files are 30 seconds exactly. The out point is set to 30;00 to it only puts one frame in there. This is obviously going to take too long because I have to have a ton of duplicated empty sequences, plus importing all the original files onto Premiere. The only automated part will be exporting all the sequences, but I'm trying to find a way to automate this even further, just dropping all the original files somewhere and have them all re-encoded with one black frame at the end. Does anyone know if this is possible? Or if not, any other software on Mac that might work for this purpose?
    Thanks

    Hello Ben,
I have been running into this problem for 2+ years. I have a friend at Apple who used to work in ProApps. He checked around for me and it is a known (but obviously ignored) issue with the third party codec Apple has licensed for 3G video. It affects 3G video exported from QuickTime Pro, iMovie and yes even the very expensive Final Cut Pro, because they all use the same codec for 3G. I use Compression Master instead. It is now incorporated/acquired by Telestream (makers of Flip4Mac).

  • Is there any way to batch-save emails and attachments as PDFs?

As I move toward a paperless office, I sure would like a way to batch save a group of emails AND their attachments as a single PDF. I can open each email and save it as a PDF, but when I have 10+ emails exchanged on a topic (like from other board members), I really don't want to do that. Has anyone heard of being able to do what I want?
I am not conversant in AppleScript AT ALL, and my one attempt to try to make a script for this went down in flames.

If you select a group of emails at one time, you can choose print and save a PDF.
If you want them all to be in one PDF file instead of individual pdf files, then save them to a folder.
With Preview, you can combine pdf files into one.
Open the first file with Preview. Open the sidebar in Preview and you will see the icon of the file you have open. Select the rest of the files you saved in the folder and drag them on top of the icon in the Preview sidebar. You should see a box appear around the icon. Drop the files on top and it should group them together.
Then save the file. It should have all the emails combined to that one file.

  • CS3: Any way to Batch convert files from different directories?

Using CS3. I want to open a bunch of TIF files and re-save using different file options. The only way I know to do this is with File > Automate > Batch. But that only works if the destination folder for all files is the same. It's not.
Ideally I would not need to first open the files in Photoshop. Perhaps something with Bridge will work. Tools > Photoshop > Image Processor looks promising. There's even an option called "Save in same location", which does not do what it says so is totally useless.

    >Bridge and Finder. They might both be running, but they are two programs that aren't Photoshop to do one simple thing Photoshop should do already by version 11.
The whole point is that Bridge is supposed to be used as an integral part of the CS4 SUITE.
I keep Bridge CS4 running at ALL times (it uses a minute amount of resources when it is just in standby mode) and I consider it to be an essential adjunct to Photoshop particularly if you deal with digital camera files.
I use its "Get Photos from Camera" to download from my card reader in preference to Nikon's download program; and I open whole batches of RAW files for processing in Bridge-hosted ACR 5.2.
ACR 5.2 also handles scanned Tiffs and JPEGs.
And I use Bridge to output Web Galleries; attach files to e-mails; collect aliases of all the files of any kind (and from any folder) that are needed for a particular project into a single Collection: and generally to organize file storage throughout my System.
The only thing that I can't yet do directly from Bridge is to burn a Collection to a CD or DVD.
Hopefully, someone like David Franzen will create a Script to do that too?

  • Is there any way to batch Word 2007 to PDF from Acrobat?

I am trying to put together my teaching portfolio and I have a lot of papers I had written in Word 2003/2007 and would like to convert them to pdf to include in my ePortfolio. I have been exporting to pdf one at a time but frankly, I have over 200 .DOC files and I am looking for a quicker way. I did not see an option in Batch Processing unless I overlooked it. Can anyone help?

For the printers, go to START>Printers & ... Then you should see the printers on your computer. Just drag the DOC files to the Adobe PDF printer. That should do it. You might want to check the printer properties in terms of naming files, where they are being saved and such. Try a few first to see what happens. If this works, you are on your way.
I am not sure why you wanted the OCR. That has no bearing on WORD files. OCR can only be done on pure graphics files with no markup or text.

  • Any way to batch convert AW 5 to AW 6, then from AW 6 to Pages '09?

I know I can do both conversions one-by-one, using the tiresome old open/re-save routine, both from AW5 to AW6, then AW6 to Pages but, seeing as AW6 is so godawful slow on my Intel machine, I'm looking for an easier way.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

I'd start by deleting the Recent Items folder on your intel machine.
You'll find it at yourname > Documents > AppleWorks User Documents > Starting points > Recent items.
AppleWorks will create a new one as soon as you save a file, so you may have to repeat the process.
As to the conversion, you can open several files at the same time by selecting them in the Finder, then pressing command-O to open them. You will need to OK the request to add the 6.0 tag to each, and you will need to do a Save As on each individual file.
If memory serves, Yvan has written a script for this task which automates it to some extent, so you might wait for a response from him before getting too deeply into it.

  • Any way to batch gradual exposure change?

I make time lapses and there is a very common frustration where flicker is created by small exposure changes due to the aperture blades not falling in the same position or when using an auto mode where exposure changes and the camera changes exposure values.  To problem is worsened when doing a time lapse during sunset/sunrise when one expects the exposure to change drastically but needs to compensate in order to get the entire scene.
I've experimented with using Lightroom's "Match Total Exposures" feature which is great at adjusting the exposure to even out the discrepancies between changing exposure values.  But this doesn't take into account the exposure of the scene is expected to change.  So when doing this for a sunset, as I increase the shutter speed to account for the setting sun, Match Total Exposures adds negative EV because it recognizes the longer shutter speed would be over exposing the selected "correct" photograph.
I would very much like to find a way to use the Match Total Exposures feature to first even out the exposure changes from the changing parameters, and then apply a batch gradual exposure change to the series so that it will know to allow for these changing lighting conditions.
Lightroom is great for adjusting individual photos or for a series under the same lighting conditions using (sync settings and match total exposures) but with changing lighting conditions is would be great to have the ability to gradually adjust values, not just exposure but other tone values.

You can probably fairly easily modify the script here.

  • Is there any way to batch change resolution, but not pixel dimensions?

I was changing the resolution of my digital photos from 180 to 300 ppi individually as I edited them, but sometimes I would forget. Since I need the higher resolution for printing, I decided to automate that step by using PSE's "Process Multiple Files" feature. I noted that the Resolution selection was grayed out until I checkmarked "Resize Images." Since I didn't want to change the number of pixels, I left those fields blank.
When I started the automated processing I noticed it was terribly slow, so I cancelled it and looked at the resulting files. They had more than doubled in file size because PSE was nearly doubling the Pixel Dimensions! I don't want to try a work-around by "resizing" to the current pixel dimensions, because the processing still takes about 45 seconds per file, and if I've cropped the photos, the pixel dimensions vary. Is there an automated way to change only the resolution in PSE . . . quickly?
Also, I really wanted to double the resolution from 180 ppi to 360 ppi, but PSE limits my choices to either 600 or 300 or less. I've read about Scripts, but I don't think PSE supports them. I have version 6.
    Thanks for some help.

Thanks for your input, and you may be right, but I'm not sure. I'm still trying to figure this out. I know it's the same photo on my monitor, but I keep reading that print resolution (ppi) is different from pixel resolution (i.e. 2000x3000.) This is my situation-- I'm sending the photos to a publisher for printing in a book. The publisher did not specify a size in inches--in fact I think the photos will be different sizes when printed on the page. They told me to send the photos in at 1600x1200 pixels. I've heard that 300 ppi is the standard resolution for publishing, so to get decent quality printing of my photos I thought I should increase the resolution from 180 to 300. But thinking about the different sizes, it seems that the resolution (ppi) will change depending on the size the photo is actually printed. At 300 ppi, a 1600x1200 photo will be printed at size 5.333" X 4". If a photo is printed full bleed on the cover of the book that is 8" x 10.667", then it will be 150 ppi. So, I guess you are right that I don't need to worry about the ppi resolution for the book photos.
Now, let me figure about what I need to print my own 4x6 photos. My digital camera was set to 16x9 jpg, so my workflow is to make PNG copies to work with and after editing, save them in the 16x9 format before cropping at 1600x1200 pixels, then sharpening before doing Save As jpg in Book folder. I was thinking I needed to change the resolution to 300 ppi when saving in the 16x9 format so if I want to later make 4x6 prints, I'll have good quality prints. But you have made me think a little harder--what I do is choose the 4x6 crop tool which takes care of whatever ppi resolution is needed for that size print. Oh good, you have saved me extra work. Thanks!
(BTW, I choose the 16x9 format because I was planning to use the photos in a widescreen slideshow, but my husband wanted something he could hold in his hand--hence, the book . . . and a lot of cropping!)

  • Ways to "Batch  delete"

Doing an Xmas clear out of old unwanted images (zero or 1 star in this case) so after using a smart set to identify them, I thin marked them as "rejected"
Trouble is they span many directories. Is there any way to "batch delete" them without having to go to each directory in turn to delete them?
(does anyone know WHY we cannot make changed like this from within smart sets? I can't understand the limitation)
    Thanks in advance

To delete from within a Collection/Smart Collection use the Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+Option/Alt+Delete key combination

  • Is there any way to save a Pages document with security?

I mean, is there any way to save a file you just edited, with a password or something that prevent other people to access that file without a password?
I am on iWork on trial version, to test if I change to iWork or keep Office 2008 for Mac.
I used to save a file on Office (PC version) with a security option, two passwords, one for read the file and other for editing the file.....is there any way to do that on Pages 09?
    Thanks

    Yes:
    +Inspector > Document > Document > Require password to open+
Just be aware that is not the same security as with MsWord. In other words they can not open each others secure documents.

  • Any way to delete BLACK for a 2 color (but no black) job?

    Hi there,
I am working on a large 600+ page textbook in which I am using two spot colors (very dark navy and tan). There is not going to be any black at all in this book, but since I can't delete the black swatch in InDesign (CS3), all effects like drop shadows etc. default to black. I'm hoping that there might be some trick or work-around to get the black completely out of my file. Once I finish the sample chapter, we will be sending the files to a formatter to layout the remainder of the book based on my design and the likelihood of black working its way into the layout somewhere along the way is pretty high if the color is still physically present in the file. I'd like to avoid having to check on-screen separations for 600 odd pages to ensure there is no black present before going to press if at all possible!
I am very grateful in advance for any advice that you might have. Thank you!
    Best,
    Sherill

    Thanks Sandee,
I suppose I might have to do that. Unfortunately though I do need to use the navy at least for the initial design so that I can get in-house approval. I don't think the editorial and marketing staff would be able to envision what the design would look like if the black were navy. :-)
Thanks for the suggestion! It might help when the book goes to formatting.
