Any way to boost or re-route signal?

I just got my new mac pro set up with wireless keyboard and mouse. My excitement was diminished soon when my mouse dragging was very hindered. I searched the forums, and found out that the problem was caused by my steel desk- the computer is under it. (the only place for it). Is there any way of boosting or re-routing the signal. Again, I have no where else to put the computer, and would like to be able to use the wireless mouse.
Thanks

If you are one of the unlucky ones, your wires inside may not be connected correctly to the right terminal. There are many threads about whether one uses the wire labeled BT or #1 to connect to the Bluetooth module. You may want to test by using your mouse at the same level as your Mac Pro, some distance away from your steel desk. My BT Mighty Mouse is over 10 feet away, and it is discovered immediately by the MP. If you don't have that kind of range using direct line-of-sight, your wires may be mislabeled inside the MP.

If you're using the external D-link adapter, all that's necessary is to obtain a USB extension cable and put the adapter closer to the mouse.
If you have the internal BT, you might wish to investigate to see if the D-link will work for you. The adapter isn't very expensive (roughly $50) but it's in the type of bubble-pack that requires blasting caps to open. Make certain that the retailer will allow you to return an opened package in case it doesn't work.

  • Is there any way to boost a signal.

The television signal to each unit gets lost every hour for about 5 minutes, and the tech can't come back for 5 days according to the 800-Comcast. Is there any way to boost the signal in the mean time?

If you gave some information on what network equipment you are using (make, model, version) and where you are experiencing signal problems it would help in giving advice.

  • Any way to boost audio input when recording?

Hi; I have been recording speech interviews with Audio-Technica mics on a ProTools set-up and they've sounded great.
I've recently tried recording using the mics in Garageband using a M-Audio Mobile Pre USB, but the audio levels are always too low unless the subject is an inch or two from the mic, which isn't the best way to get quality audio.
Is there any way to boost the audio input when recording in GB or any other tricks people know of?
    thx, Charlie

I'm actually having the same problem, except I'm recording straight into the computer (no interface).
I tried using an MBox, but the computer won't even recognize it...(if anyone's got suggestions for why that is, I'll gladly take them...).
My main question is the same as Charles's, however - how come the input level is so soft when recording using the "Built-In Input" (where I can use a mic, and have mobility) as opposed to the "Built-In Microphone"?

  • Any way to boost mobile coverage in weak area? Android

I go to a place in the Colorado mountains right on the edge of Verizon coverage.  I used to get consistent mobile connectiviity, but now sometimes I don't.  It shows one bar, but calls or texts may or may not go though.  Does anyone know of anything I can do with my phone itself to increase the likihood of successful phone coverage?  I have a Samsung Stratosphere.

Hey there,  userx! Thanks for sharing your service concerns. We want to be there to support you, too! I don't know of a way to boost service on the device itself, as it's designed on a fundamental level to capture the strongest signal available. I don't know what this place in Colorado may be, but I may have another suggestion. If this place is a residence with high speed/broadband internet, you may also consider a Network Extender: http://vz.to/IHRT6h. My father loves his!

  • Any way to boost bluetooth range

Now I know this is not a typical issue, but I was hoping some of you may have some solutions. I just purchased an iPhone 4 for my brother. He loves it, but the problem is he works in harsh environments (namely, on top of roofs in FL needless to say in sweltering heat). What he would like to be able to do is keep the phone in an airconditioned place like a car or home at a workshop where possible, and use a bluetooth headset for music and calls. Of course, this runs into the problem of range. I have looked, but I haven't been able to find any type of 'bluetooth signal booster' for something like an iphone (although there are apparenly such things for Macs and PCs with USB ports).
Anyone know of anything like that, or any other ideas for solutions?
BTW, he's got the toughest case we can find on the market yet and the film, but he's still not comfortable taking it with him on some jobs for obvious reasons.
    Thanks!

Unfortunately even if there was a Bluetooth Booster, it wouldn't reach the headset. In most first floor to second floor to another measurement is 20 feet give or take. Some documented as 10 feet each. We'll say 20 feet each
Depending on how many floors to the roof (say two/three floors from level 1) it's 40/60 feet.
Bluetooth signals reach up to 30 feet in most devices other than the i4. You can equip a sound out to a bluetooth ranger but that varies in how wide it can without messing with the i4. But you'll lose controls on the i4.

  • Any way to boost the Bluetooth receiver on a MBP?

How can I boost the Bluetooth receiver on a MBP? In my current setup, I have my MBP to the left while I have an external monitor in the middle that acts as my primary monitor. So, since my Bluetooth mouse is on my right, the distance is about 1.5 feet from my MBP and therefore the Bluetooth signal is weaker, so the mouse sometimes lags across the screen when moving it around.

If this is physical media rather than a VTL, then you can always write protect or even export the volume, so it won't be written to, if you don't want it.
The write window will be correctly applied when the tape has expired and is written to again. You can't edit the write window on the tape, you can only increase the amount of time the tape is kept with the retain options.
    Thanks

  • Is there any way to boost flash performance in a MAC?

As I said... is it possible? Why is it too slow?
    Any answer is welcome.
    THANKS!

Are you referring to the IDE or the player?
if its the IDE, then you'll need to wait for Flash 9 which
    will be
intel Native, if its playback then using the 9r28 player has
    yielded
much better performance in our testing

  • Is there any way I can get a wireless N router?

Okay so I have the old 25/25 connection and with the current modem/router from verizon I got bout 12 down and like 5 up.
I switched to a 3rd party router a long time ago but I wish to use a verizon modem/router that has a wireless N router
since the verizon router can block internet access because I wish to leave my connection open from now on its not open
yet but I wish to do it but I can't do with this router because I don't know how to block people that's why I have it locked still
and my current NETGEAR WNR2000(I get 25/25 wireless or closer like 23/25). I know its the wireless B+G that was
making my connection slow because I had switched between like 5 verizon routers from them and none difference
because they all were B+G but when I purchased my NETGEAR WNR2000 with B+G+N I got full speed because of the N
technology. So is there any way of asking them if I can get a wireless N router mostly for free?

    paulgs3 wrote:
I just purchased the N router and I'm not really happy with it.
The range is pathetic and there is no dual band. Just a heads up.  I'm wishing I would have purchased an access point and just bridged them together for the wireless.
I assume you are referring to the Actiontec Rev I router.
I am not really concerned about range with the Rev. I router, but it seems to work fine for me at around 70 feet, at the other end of my house.
Yes it is not dual band, but then again, nothing I have seen would make anybody believe that it was dual band. And dual band routers are typically more expensive, and I am sure you know that Verizon is never going to be the cheapest option for purchasing any hardware.
To the Rev. I router performance: I have 25/25 service and I typically get 30/24 performance wireless. For example, I just did the following test wireless to speedtest.net:
    Close enough for me.
I get basically the same speeds when I use the laptop wired.
I don't know about how your router was configured when you received it, but mine was configured for WPA2 but for TKIP/AES encryption, which supports B/G/N speeds, and my N-capable laptop would only connect at G speeds, no matter what I did, and I was unhappy with wireless performance. Eventually I found a topic that talked about changing the encryption to AES only and bingo, my wireless speeds increased dramatically. So you might check to see if you are using AES only and if not changing to that so that you have the "N performance" option.
And one other thing: have you checked for wireless interference? I use inSSIDer (free) to see what other networks are operating around me, and I have found that using Channel 1 works best for me. But if you haven't checked I encourage you to do so, it can make a big difference if you happen to be using a congested channel.

  • Best way to Boost Signal from a Time Capsule is?

Is the best way to boost my wifi signal from the time capsule an Airport Express?
Is there anything out there better, faster?
    Thanks!

There's a good step by step in the Designing AirPort Networks guide, pages 43-44.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Apple_AirPort_NetworksEarly2009.pdf
When you are configuring an AirPort Express with AirPort Utility, it will usually help to temporarily connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the Express. Once you have it configured and updated, you can remove the cable and move the Express back to the desired location.
The key things to keep in mind are that both the base station and the extending device must be configured. All you will need to do on the base station is open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup and Click the Wireless tab. Make sure there is a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended" and update to save changes. If you have a dual band base station, only the main network can be extended.
On the Express, the Wireless Mode is set to "Extend a Wireless Network". When you do this, the wireless network created by the base station will appear so you can select that network to "extend". You will need to enter the password for your wireless etc. It's important to remember to click the check box next to "Allow wireless clients".
By the way, the ethernet port is also active when you setup the Express to extend, so if you need to get ethernet to a device like a DVR, DVD player, etc., this is a nice way to do so.

  • Best way to boost wifi signal?

    Hello,
I just got a new imacG5 with the wireless integrated. I can connect to my wireless network at home, but the signal I get where I have my computer is very low, close to none. I was wondering if anyone could recomend the best way to boost my wireless signal (relays, boosters, bridges, etc.).
    Thanks
    imac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I use Airport Express. Signal is strong within 50 feet of my computer (54 mps). I'm able to use my iBook anywhere in the house (we live on one-floor). Device was very easy to set up. Very reliable piece of equipment.
You can find a good price on Amazon (usually around $100), including free shipping, although not sure about the "free" part for shipments to Puerto Rico.
