Any way to Cut In-to-Out?

Is there any way in CS6 to mark an In and Out point, then use Cut or Copy to lift the marked section (using whatever tracks are "on") for Pasting elsewhere?
Or is there some other way to accomplish this, without having to "add edits" ("razoring") the clips?

We have chatted about this item before. Let me give an example of why it is useful to edit this way.
We shoot an hour long interview on a Canon 5D spanned over 6 10-minute clips. There is no embedded timecode and I need to get it transcribed so the client can do a paper edit. I lay the 6 clips out on a timeline, add a window burn timecode and send it to get transcribed. Then, I get back a bunch of edits from the client based on this timecode. Now, the easiest process is to go back to the sequence and mark an in point at minute 47 (for example) mark an out, hit cmd-C, and then paste that clip into my new sequence. Otherwise, I would have to think That edit is in clip # 5, load it into the source monitor, jump to minute 7, mark my in/out, etc etc. Over and over...
Another quick example - making buckets of themes by laying out interview clips on a timeline in groups, and then pulling the clips from those buckets. It is a visual way to work - as if you are a photographer laying out all of your slides on a light table. I guess the point is that everyone edits in a different way, and I am asking for a simple command that would impact how I use the software, and not impact those that don't care. My feature request went in, and I'm just trying to explain why it is important to me and others.
If you have better workflow ideas for the examples I gave, please share. I am not dogmatic and am always looking for what works for others.

Any way to *cut* an element from a slide?

Is there any way to cut an element on one slide (such as a

the were not locked, but I have found you cannot Delete a
single element if it is hidden on the timeline.
Also, you can not delete multiple elements at the same time,
and that some elements are tied to others on the timeline and you
have to delete them in a certain order sometimes.
I think Flash still has a much better timeline editing
capabilities.

I have recently switched from a PC to a MacBook Pro.
I have a large number of documents and photographs on a multiterrabite external drive, backed up on a second multiterrabite external drive.
Both external drives are formatted for MacIntosh. This has been verified by agents at an Apple store and also at Best Buy in two different cities.
This is the problem:
The MacBook Pro will not allow me to cut-and-paste to and from or to click-and-drag to the external drive. I can copy-and-paste, but then I must send the original to the trash, which doubles the time and effort. Is there any way to cut-and-paste?
Also, the MacBook Pro will not allow me to rename multiple documents or photographs. I can click-and-rename a single one, but this is impossibly time consuming. I can batch-rename in iPhoto, but when I transfer the photographs to the external drive, the rename does not transfer.
I’m reduced to using my wife’s Toshiba to cut-and-past, rename, and transfer documents. It works perfectly. Is there any way to do this on the MacBook Pro?

No, this is a philosophical difference between Apple and Microsoft. Apple believes that it's dangerous to cut a file in case the user never pastes it; in that case the file is lost. Microsoft seems to not have this problem (if I remember Windows correctly) because they don't delete the originating file if it's cut but never pasted.
Even though Macs have a lot of keyboard shortcuts, philosophically Macs have traditionally been mouse-first. This applies to file copy operations. In your case, what a Mac user would do is open the source window, open the destination window (on your second drive), and then Command-drag the selected files from the source to destination window. This is because a normal drag would leave the originals behind, while adding the Command modifier key tells OS X that this is a Move, not a Copy, so don't leave the originals behind.
(In addition there are different rules for drag-copying within the same volume or between different volumes. If you drag between two folders on the same volume, the files are moved. If you drag between different volumes, the files are copied unless you hold down Command to delete the copies on the source volume.)

Two problems in this case. First, batch file renaming is not built into OS X unless you build something with Automator. However, there are many utilities that can do batch file renaming which you can find at macupdate.com or on the App Store. Since I work with media I often batch rename using one of the media managers I have lying around like Media Pro or Adobe Bridge (comes with Photoshop).
iPhoto is a database front end designed to shield the file system from the consumer and let them concentrate on creativity and sharing. As such it is often a poor choice for managing files directly. When you "transferred the photographs" chances are you moved the originals, not the ones iPhoto edited which are stored in a hidden folder.

There will not be a way to do it exactly like Windows. As described above, there are ways to do it "the Mac way." If it is possible to remove judgment on which way is "better" you might find the Mac way to be acceptable, but of course sometimes we simply prefer what we're used to.

Is there any way to cut audio while keeping the video it is tied to?

ok, I have a video from a dvd i burned on FCE but the sound is messed up. I am going to be making a AMV with it anyway so I don't really need the audio. Is there any way of cutting the audio without disturbing the video it was imported with. I must stress that they were not imported separately.

Place the footage in the timeline. Click the lock key on the vidoe time line. This will place a screen looking thing over the video. Select the audio in the time line and press delete. That will delete the audio but keep the video. Then unclick the lock key and all should be well. Always remeber the "undo" option if you mess up. I use it all the time.

I am facing bit challenging question:
Is there is any way that multiple SSL identities out of a single DS6.2 instance, and DS6.2 instances cant be convinced to replicate over SSL successfully using only a single shared SSL identity across many instances.
I am trying to find out that is there is a way to use multiple SSL identities out of one instance of DS6.2 ; and configure accordingly, with client facing service using a shared common identity and replication using distinct identities.

Any way to stop being logged out of the forums every 10 minutes?

Since the recent alteration of the forum, I keep getting logged out. Is there any way to increase the time or keep me logged in at all?

Not in Safari, The timeout length is ±30 minutes. I found that it is particularly annoying when composing a post, as it will not Post when logged out in the middle of composition.
I use Firefox and a FF add-on called "Reload Every" - applied to a tab or window, I set it to 'Custom' 20 minutes. You must apply it every time you start FF (from the 'context' menu (ctrl+click). Note that the Tab or window needs to remain open at all times (could hide it in the Dock) for it to work. I haven't been logged out since adding it to FF

Go to Application ->Shared Components -> Edit Security Attributes , take the "*Session Timeout*" section
The Maximum Session Idle Time in Seconds field is what you are looking for.

Michael, thank you!! I've tried using "Kind", and "Media Kind" and neithor worked. How funny, and simple, that using a comment criteria works.
It is still unfortunate that using "Kind" or "Media Kind" criteria does not work on mobile devices, since that would require no manual modifications on my part. I do sure hope Apple fixes that someday.

Is there any way to cut one phone on your plan off from data?

For some reason my daughters phone is eating data. She is out of town and saying she is not using the data. Since friday she has used over 3 gigs. I am wondering if i can cut the data usuage off from her phone.

You can add the family base feature to your account to block data on her line, it would add $5 normally, if you are on the share everything/more everything plan it will be free for 3 months. And you can set up total data blockage, or make it so that she can't go over a certain amount. You can look at that option by clicking here.

HT4718 hi. okay so I updated my mac and now i can't open my iMovie and my iPhoto because I downloaded them from a separate account, which I don't remember. Is there any way that i can find out the apple id i used to download these two apps?

Or is there another way i could download iphoto and imovie? (cuz when i try to download it with my new id it says that it cannot be purchased with my new id.)

I'm not sure if this will work, but try using LaunchPad. Hold down the option key while hovering over iPhoto and click the X that appears.
If the Option key doesn't make it show, click and hold until it giggles. Then the x should appear.

Developer Tools disappeared...any way to get back w/out reset?

One day last week the Web Developer submenu lost half of it's menu items for no apparent reason. However in a Private Browsing window the menu is all back to normal. It is much easier if you save the file with those links as an HTML file with A href="http" links in MS Word and import that file in Firefox.

No, you cannot find out where the computer has been. Find My Mac only shows you were the computer is right now if it is online.
I strongly recommend you change all your internet passwords immediately, notify the police (do not try to recover your MBA yourself), and your insurance company so you can get reimbursed and buy a new Mac. Once you have done all this go back to Find My Mac and click the "Erase" button.
