Any way to enlarge color wheels?

Hey guys ~
So I finally made the plunge into Speedgrade.  At first I didn't get its wonky, menu-less UI.  And still there are parts of its baffling workflow that remind me of the way things were done with ancient software in the days of yore.  But you know what?  I'm actually starting to like it.  It still needs some fixin', but I dare say I think I'm starting to get it.
That being said, does anyone know if there's a way to increase the size of the color wheels?  Let's face it, anything 10% outside of the exact center of the wheel is pretty much unusable (and that's being generous... it's probably closer to 5%).  After that point, whatever color you're heading towards goes flat-out nuclear.  So there's only an extremely small area in the wheel that's actually relevant to color correction.  As a result, making the smallest of moves inside that area can drastically change your image.
My thought was to enlarge the wheel like you can in Premiere so I could get more accurate, but I haven't found a way to do that... making the wheels panel bigger doesn't increase the size of the actual color wheels.  I also know about the sliders/edit boxes/curves filters, but I would still prefer to use color wheels over those options.  Does anyone know if there's something I'm missing to make the wheels bigger, or have you found a way to use the wheels that works?  Thanks for any help.

Over in the Preferences panel, "Environment", you can change how fast the wheel movement works ... say, add another zero into the "Speed Reduction Ratio" number, and you slow down reaction to the input ... which to my taste makes them much easier to work with. That said ...you're right, in general, about the wheels going to Nuke color way too quickly.
Perhaps the scale is linear and should be a logarithmic one? Anyway, PLEASE feel free to file a bug-report over this ...

It would be vastly more useful to have a wider range of the wheel showing smaller changes ....
As to general workflow, there's times when I use the wheels, and other things where the sliders are better as I can guarantee hitting ONE color. This can be shifted one to the other by keyboard shorts ... and this program was originally written by/for colorists. Professional 'old-school' types ... where they used grading "surfaces" (the $2,000 variety), special keyboards, trackballs & million-button "mice" to work. Menus simply took up workspace, and when monitors were 17" diagonal 4:3 CRT's, well ... you fought for every pixel on that screen. Why have menus taking up valuable pixels when your users don't use menus?
I cannot more strongly recommend these resources ...
The starting point within Adobe's SpeedGrade info ...

Especially download the manual pdf ... and ... yea, it's more of a "we have these features that do X" sort of thing than a real-usable manual. Still, it gets into quite a bit of how the program works. ESPECIALLY ... read & print out the keyboard shortcuts. Using these speeds up your work and makes things a bit more precise. One experienced pro colorist said to me that the best list of what the tools in Sg are is the keyboard shorts list. He's not wrong, you know.
A book ... that is on color grading in general but is an immense store of usable knowledge to get work done in grading no matter the app used ... which shows the various tools available in various apps to do X process ... this was and is a huge resource for my progress in color grading in general and SpeedGrade in particular. Especially, coming from a stills-shooter background (35+ years, total family income ... many awards & such ... mattes not one whit in video!) I was used to the histogram ... which is the LEAST usable of the scopes for my now. Vector & parade ... wow, those tell you a LOT about your images.

Also ... while video tutorials take time, they can be very useful. After watching tons, my preferences are for base starting, the AdobeTV ones on SpeedGrade ... and when you see Patrick Palmer, well ... he's the guy that started what eventually became Iridas and then SpeedGrade. He's a wonderful dude who speaks such fluent English it's hard to realize he's German except for the bit of accent, and well ... he knows "his" program, though he's recently moved on to other things.
Past that, in paid videos, I have found the lynda-dot-com ones to be the most useful, and there's several on SpeedGrade in particular and also in using it as part of the Direct Link process from PrPro.
My work setup, btw  ... a Microsoft ergonomic keyboard with all sorts of extra programmable buttons & a spring-loaded zoom button that's heavily customizable to specific programs in the middle ... a Wacom pen-tab for my left hand with it's programmable features (that I've barely tapped into) and on the right, the Kensington Expert Mouse large trackball (2" ball) with a four-button surrounding area of large buttons. You might guess from this, I'm a lefty ... which means pretty ambidextrous. I'm still studying what I do & how ... but about read to start setting more program actions into those tools I've got.
I have a Dell U2312HM monitor, which can be quite nicely calibrated, and am going to pick up a cheap 1920x1080 monitor in the next few days so that I can have the 'main' display within the video programs (tools) on that probably 16" or so monitor, and above it this nice one with the program monitor locked to it. Switching the program to full-screen & back is a pain and I've done it for almost 3 years and I'm just ... DONE. With that.
Is this a full broadcast setup? No ... but then, my clients are TV stations either ... nor Sony Pictures or Pixar or Disney. This calibrates well, and my outputed material has always shown beautifully on my clients computers and TV's.

  • When using an external (ergonomic mouse) is there any way to get the wheel to scroll one full page at a time?

When using an external (ergonomic mouse) is there any way to get the wheel to scroll one full page at a time? Much appreciated.

I can't use the keyboard to scroll. I need to keep my hand on the mouse, otherwise I'd never get anything done. Since I have no problem getting Firefox to scroll one page at a time, and I'm constantly jumping between 3 browsers, it would be nice to be able to scroll a full page at a time in Safari, just like I can in Firefox. Thanks.

    Hey-
I'm using Illustrator CS2 at the moment, and I'm finding that the menus/toolbars and the like are a little too small for my liking. Is there any way to enlarge those things? Would love to make them a bit bigger so my tired eyes can take a break from strainin'.

Lower the resolution of your monitor.

  • Is there any way to assign colored labels to events?

Is there any way to assign colored labels to events without having to create numerous calendars?

You can use numactl to lock any process to a NUMA node, but that only helps if your machine really is NUMA (AMD Opteron servers are, Itanium systems often are).
You should be able to enumerate nodes using:
    numactl -H
And lock the process to a node using for instance:
    numactl cpubind=$node_num membind=$node_num java MyClass
It is hardware dependent how many CPUs and how much memory you have per node. A common number of CPUs is 1-4 sockets.

  • Any way to set color for value in chart and still filter out values (but retain colors)?

Is there any way that I can hard code a color into a chart and still filter out values?
I have 5 divisions, each with a specific color.  I have put them into a stacked column chart and it looks fine.  My issue arises when I try to filter out some of the divisions.  The colors do not stay with the specified divisions.
    Ex.)
      Div 1 = Red
      Div 2 = Green
      Div 3 = Black
When I filter out Div 1, this is what I see:
    Div 2 = Red
    Div 3 = Green
I have tried standard delivered filter panel, and check-boxes using CHART_1.setDataSelection( )
It seems like the color hard coding in the "additional" properties of the chart are not tied to the value, but are determined by sort order.  Any help is greatly appreciated

    Hi,
There is one Possibility bu not By chart .
It will look like chart but will use Text box .
Lets say you have 5 Divisions & 3 Key figures .
    Then You need 5 * 3 = 15 Text box .
Arrange them in 5 columns and 3 rows type of view .
    now .
set fix width for all .
set the height & position by coding
You need to set this type of code for filter selection also .

any way to increase font size on nnew iMac 27 inch?

    Hi,
In the Finder > View Menu > View Option > change the Text size.
This changes the size of text under the icons on the Desktop.
If you open any Finder window after this you can create a Default size for all windows from the same panel.

  • Is there any way to enlarge a cursor on a graph, or attach a .bmp image to it so that it shows up better?

I am using an intensity graph to display position (and information) from GPS, using the graph's cursor, point only without crosshairs, to indicate the location. Sometimes it is hard to find the cursor. I would like to enlarge it, make it flash, attached an led indicator, bitmap image or something to make its location more obvious against the background data. I've thought about attaching the LED indicator, but cursor position would need to be calibrated to the screen aspect ratio. This works, but its difficult given that the graph has varying Scales. Does anyone know an easy way to make the cursor larger or more obvious using any of the methods mentioned above?

I came up with this solution but I now do not think it is what you are looking for now that I reread your posting. My example reponds to mouse clicks from the user on the intensity graph and it moves a highly customized picture control to where you mouse up. You can learn how to modify controls in the "LabVIEW Custom Controls, Indicators, and Type Definitions" manual.
I think what you want instead is to programatically move the cursor and have an image move to the new location. I could not figure out how to do this reliably. The problem is that the cursor location is given relative to the data and there is no property that gives the postion relative to the screen. I have in the past come up with fancy algorithms for making this conversion but all my s
olutions were flaky--they did not work right when the VI as loaded from file.
Attached you will find my example. The logic for controlling the picture control movements is not finished but it gives you an idea of what you might expect with this method.

  • Any way to reverse scroll wheel zoom?

I love the option+scroll wheel zoom in the After Effects timeline and was always annoyed that many of the Apple Pro apps didn't support this. Recently switched over to Premiere, and glad to see the scroll wheel works in the timeline as well. However, it's reversed! In AE, when you scroll forward, you zoom IN... in Premiere, you zoom OUT.
Any option somewhere that allows you to invert this? I keep getting all messed up as I go back and forth between the apps.
    Thanks,
    Stephen

Stephen, I so agree with this.
In Audition and FCP it works the correct way too. Pr Pro just feels all wrong and it's doing my head in.
The software is great to use, but the zoom is incredibly confusing, considering all the other applications I've used in the past all work correctly.
I can only hope that they don't start changing things like Apple did with the reversing of the track pad in Lion. bad move there in my books (just one reason why I don't need to upgrade).
    Cheers,
    Steve

  • Is there any way to enlarge menus, palettes, toolbar?

The icons and font headers for all the menus and palettes are too small. Isn't there a way to change so it's more legible? Using Indesign CS2. Help.. this is such a drag!

There are cheap and free third-party utilities for both Mac and Windows that can enlarge parts of the screen. Some newer versions of OS X and Windows (7, I think) have features built in. On Mac, it's in System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad > Open Keyboard Preferences > Zoom (whew!)
Try a Google search for screen enlargement, screen loupe, screen eyeglasses, screen zoom - Windows or Mac - free,  etc.
Ooops, I forgot to include search terms like assistive devices, screen magnifiers, increasing user interface size.

  • Any way to enlarge fonts etc in browser and lock them that way?

I like safari and all, but on many sites including this one the fonts are too small for my tired eyes, so I always pinch/spread to make the text bigger. Might like to be able to increase the size of the fonts as on usually can wi a browser, but can't find it on iPad?
Any ideas? Is it trivial and I just missed that day?

There is no fix with MobileSafari because it doesn't let you apply your own font sizes. Well-designed web sites should have mobile options and/or font size options from within the site. Some sites just release custom apps that only surf their site with appropriate font sizes. Unfortunately, the Jive software that Apple uses for Apple Discussions has none of those.

  • Any way to add color signature in Preview?

Please this is important. I need to add a color signature in Preview. The signature creating adds only black and white. I need it to be in blue.
    Thanks

I discovered how to do this. Having inserted your signature, select it and change the color using the color picker (just to the right of the signature tool).
    Good luck!

  • Any way to enlarge base font size in Safari?

Simple question. Looked for answer, can't find. I can resize each page with finger gesture, but am looking for a basic resize that stays on all the time. Thanks.

On second thought -- the way PB does persistent font size chugs is annoying. it first renders each new page at the STD size, then snaps it up to new size. This makes page loading slower by noticeable amount. Very annoying. Looking elsewhere now.
