Any way to get older applications to run on an Intel-based Mac?

I bought a Mac for work. The two programs we use are Quark Express 5.0 and Adobe Photoshop 7.0. Photoshop was installed without problem, but Quark and the rest of the Adobe programs, like PageMaker, give me a message that says they are not supported on this system. Is there any way at all to get these to install?

Quark 5 is a Classic version not OSX and the new Intel Macs do not run Classic.
There is a third party MacIntel Classic emulator out there somewhere but I can't find my info on it, you'll have to Google it.
Or you can just get Quark 7. However, there might be problems if it's not Universal, and with Quark's history I'd be amazed if they've made that update yet. You might be better off getting an older and cheaper version of 6, which is also OSX.
Beware, it must be a legit copy because starting with 6 Quark has to be registered online or it won't work.

  • Is there any way to make a Classic program run on a Intel Core Mac Mini?

    My mom just got a new Mac Mini with the intel core processor and she wants to be able to run a rabit pedigree program from her ancient little mac that ran OS 7. Now it says that you can't run classic programs on the intel core processors, but is there any way to get around this? Say converting the application some how, or maybe even installing OS 9 some how as an alternate operating system or any such thing? Or should my mom just start looking for a different pedigree program and start reentering all of her information now?

    Try this, UneasySilence.com has a guide on how to use SheepShaver to run Mac OS 9 on an Intel Mac.

    "Who said you can't use MacOS 9 because you have an Intel Mac? It is completely possible with a little bit of tinkering, and a really cool universal application called Sheep Shaver, which came to us via a tip from Kazaki. Sheep Shaver is a full speed 'Classic' emulator for Windows, Linux, and Intel based Macs, that runs older MacOS's at shockingly full speed!"

  • Is there any way to get an application to load automatically on server start?

    We're trying to implement a load-balancing mechanism between FMS hosts in a virtual "farm".  The mechanism we're using is to have the FMSs periodically send "load" data (along with a timestamp) to an application server.  That server will then use that load information and timestamp to detect when an FMS server has gone down and to make stream assignments to FMSs.
    Right now, I've implemented this code via a setInterval() in live/main.asc.  I've added a "return false" to Application.onAppStop() to (according to the docs, I haven't tested this yet) keep the server from shutting down an idle instance.  So I've left with a "chicken and egg" issue: how do I get the interval running before the first request hits the application (and forces the load of the application)?  I've tried putting the setInterval in onAppStart() and as a global.  In both cases, it only gets executed after application is loaded.
    So, is there any way to force an application to load (via a config file parameter or local command-line)?

    Hi,
    I am sorry i have not read the full details what you wrote, but if you are looking for loading of application on start of the server, there is a configuration tag in application.xml called loadonstartup and by default it is set to false. Set it to true to enable it and all the apps will be loaded on server start.
    alternatively , you can make an application.xml inside the application folder and set this tag to true, to have this applied only to a particular application,
    Also, the fms admin console can launch a new instance of an app without any connection being made initially.
    Thank you !

  • Is there any way to get Mountain Lion to run on 2014 MacbookPro?

    I'd like to do this as some software I use ( Vectorworks ) wont run on Mavericks?
    Thanks

    There are software components in Mavericks that are necessary to introduce new hardware support found only in mid-to-fall 2013 Macs. It would be time and resource prohibitive to re-engineer new hardware support into OS X releases older than that which came with the current generation of hardware. No one is going to reverse engineer Mountain Lion for you.
    Nemetscheck is in business to stay in business. I think you under-estimate their software engineering demands and what it takes to properly support future product changes in operating systems and graphics support. A few lines of code ... I seriously doubt that premise.
    Like anything else in this life that costs money, you can earn more, play, or fold.

    Hi,
    I need to get a new laptop and would really like to get a Mac Book Pro (it has integrated powered firewire which would be very handy). The main applications that I need LabVIEW for are image acquisition and analysis using the vision toolkit and the NI IEEE 1394 driver.
    Does anyone know if I can use these if I installed boot camp and was running Windows on the Mac?
    I do not see how there would be a difference between a PC and a Mac as far as LabVIEW was concerned but was wondering if it had been tried.
    Thanks
    Well, certainly not as far as LabVIEW is concerned. But the NI IEEE 1394 driver might be a problem. Not sure what chip Apple uses but you need apropriate driver support for it under Windows or NI IEEE 1394 needs to support it directly. That is something that could be likely crumbling on little details so make sure you get a clear statement from NI about that or try it out first before buying.

  • Trouble running shockwave on intel based mac

    Please help- i have downloaded shockwave /authorware several
    months ago and ran safari and firefox in the rosetta mode without a
    problem. A few days ago i was looking at a website for my daughter
    and it said i couldn't view it because I didn't have the flash
    player. So, it took me to the adobe download center and I
    downloaded flash player 9. Now I can not view any web sites that I
    had prevously been able to view. I unistalled all then went back
    through the steps outlined to use macromedia shockwave player on
    intel mac and went back to the rosetta mode and I still can not get
    it to work. i am not very computer literate so please bear with me.
    I keep getting this when I try to view a website: has content of
    MIME type “application/x-shockwave-flash”, but you
    don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in
    should be available on this page:

  • Any way to get back the apps i bought?

    I have a feeling that i lost al the apps i bought for my iphone. During the last firmware update (2.1) the installation stopped, giving me a completely vague error. The only thing i could do (according to the messages on the phone) was to restore the phone. I did choose that option, not knowing that i would lose all my applications (that i didn't backup for quite a while).
    So, here i am with my empty iphone. Is there any way to get my applications back? I have a feeling there isn't and if that turns out to be the case, i think i have no other option than to jailbreak my device. I never had the plan to do so because i don't mind paying money for apps, but i'm not going to pay money again for the apps i already bought because i think that's quite ridiculous.
    Any ideas?

    Thank you! So much! That was easier than i thought and although i feel a little stupid, i'd expect Apple to make this a lot clearer in the interface.
    on the page for an app (that i already bought) i have to:
    1. click on the price
    2. the price changes into 'BUY NOW'
    3. i have to click on 'BUY NOW'
    4. appstore quits, preparing the app to intall
    5. a message appears that i already bought this one, and asks me if i want to install it again for free
    I never got to finish this whole procedure, i quit at step 3 assuming that i had to pay again. If anyone at Apple reads this: you might want to put the message in step 5 somewhere else, preferably before you have to click on a price and click on a buy button.
    Still thanks for the help

  • Issue: Cannot preview FLV on any browser on Intel Based Mac (10.5.5)

    Issue:
    FLV file is not displayed on the browser when previewed.
    Instead, the Clear_Skin_1.swf is displayed. (Safari 3.1.2, Firefox
    3.0.2)
    How to reproduce:
    When you insert a .FLV file on an HTML Doc.
    (Insert>Media>FLV) and preview it on the browser
    (File>Preview in Browser) then Clear_Skin_1.swf is displayed
    instead of the FLV playing.
    *note: going on live view within Dreamweaver CS4 plays the
    video.
    Environment:
    Dreamweaver CS4
    Mac OS 10.5.5
    Safari 3.1.2
    Firefox 3.0.2
    ***Actions i did so far***
    1. I tried to export the site definition and import all the
    files to the windows platform. (Scripts folder containing
    expressInstall.swf and swfobject_modified.js which is automatically
    generated in dwcs4, the HTML document with the flv file,
    Clear_Skin_1.swf, FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf)
    2. Previewing the same HTML doc in windows do not produce the
    same problem which is happening on Mac. The FLV plays without any
    problem.
    3. Recreated Preference files and Configuration files but to
    no avail. (Mac)
    Anybody else getting this issue? Anyone has an Intel Based
    Mac who can try to reproduce the issue on their end? Can this be a
    possible bug? Conflict with the OS? Browser issue? Any response
    will be appreciated.
    Happy Holidays.

    I'm using Dreamweaver CS4 on a Intel Mac running OSX 10.5.6
    and in just the past 2 weeks deployed almost a dozen FLV movies and
    they all worked perfectly on the www in all browsers, so I don't
    think it's related to your Mac, OSX, or browser, and I don't
    believe it's a bug of any kind since it's not recreated for all
    people.
    I know that's not much help, but at least you can eliminate
    all of those things. Make sure you've uploaded all of the files
    required for the movies, and you are using the best coding
    practices for enconding FLV videos and adding to pages. Let's take
    a closer look at an example of code used for FLVs:
    <object
    classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="218"
    height="159" id="FLVPlayer">
    <param name="movie" value="FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf"
    />
    <param name="quality" value="high" />
    <param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
    <param name="scale" value="noscale" />
    <param name="salign" value="lt" />
    <param name="FlashVars"
    value="&amp;MM_ComponentVersion=1&amp;skinName=Clear_Skin_2&amp;streamName=movies/CEO_vid eo&amp;autoPlay=false&amp;autoRewind=true"
    />
    <param name="swfversion" value="8,0,0,0" />
    <!-- This param tag prompts users with Flash Player 6.0
    r65 and higher to download the latest version of Flash Player.
    Delete it if you don’t want users to see the prompt. -->
    <param name="expressinstall"
    value="scripts/expressInstall.swf" />
    <!-- Next object tag is for non-IE browsers. So hide it
    from IE using IECC. -->
    <!--[if !IE]>-->
    <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
    data="FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf" width="218" height="159">
    <!--<![endif]-->
    <param name="quality" value="high" />
    <param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
    <param name="scale" value="noscale" />
    <param name="salign" value="lt" />
    <param name="FlashVars"
    value="&amp;MM_ComponentVersion=1&amp;skinName=Clear_Skin_2&amp;streamName=movies/CEO_vid eo&amp;autoPlay=false&amp;autoRewind=true"
    />
    <param name="swfversion" value="8,0,0,0" />
    <param name="expressinstall"
    value="scripts/expressInstall.swf" />
    <!-- The browser displays the following alternative
    content for users with Flash Player 6.0 and older. -->
    <div>
    <h4>Content on this page requires a newer version of
    Adobe Flash Player.</h4>
    <p><a href="
    http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer"><img
    src="
    http://www.adobe.com/images/shared/download_buttons/get_flash_player.gif"
    alt="Get Adobe Flash player" /></a></p>
    </div>
    <!--[if !IE]>-->
    </object>
    <!--<![endif]-->
    </object>
    Note in this example, there are many more include files
    needed than just the clear skin swf. FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf,
    expressInstall.swf, and also the stream name of the movie which
    tells it where to find the movie. Point I'm getting at, be sure to
    double check everything to make sure you have included everything,
    and they are all where they are suppose to be. I think that should
    solve the problem for you.

    Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

  • Is there any way to get the appStore link for my application

    Hi everyone , i am developing an app which has a feature of sharing its appstore link with the friends through mail,so that they can see my appplication in appstore and buy it directly on click of a button. For that i need to use the app store link of my application for sending it . is there any way to get that and using it dynamically in my app immediately after releasing it.

    Your best bet would be to create a web page of your own for the app. Design that page so that it uses 'META REFRESH' to redirect the visitor straight to the App Store link.
    That way you can hard-wire your own web page address into your app.
    This has the advantage that it can work well even before you've noticed that your app has arrived on the App Store. Create a real web page, describing the app and telling people to search for it in the App Store by name - then replace it with the auto-redirect page when you've discovered your application's App Store address.

    Ah, well, then the notes are probably gone. Did you save any of the email from that account on your computer? The notes might be there if you did.

  • Is there any way to get an older app version of apple tv remote?

    It's been several months since the apple tv remote app was updated to 3.0+.
    Once I updated, I have not been able to control my apple tv (2nd gen).
    I have 2 ipod touch (2nd gen as well) and neither can use the updated app to control our apple tv any more.
    We've had to resort to using the aluminum remote (which we constantly are losing)
    Long story short. Is there any way to get an older version of the app (say 2.4)? I've looked everywhere but everyone links back to itunes (and that only has the latest version). We're also stuck on iOS 4.2 because of hardware. There are a couple of sites out there but it seems that they are not legit as they ask for credit card info.
    Any help is appreciated.

    You can only do so if you downloaded a previous version at some point in the past, and it's still in the iTunes library on your computer. If that version is updated too, maybe the old version is in Trash/Recycling Bin.

    Director 12 IOS app quits on iPod after a second after loaded, but runs fine on iPad.  Any way to get it works on both?

    "what does it take to get final apps working on an iOS 7 iPad"
    Well most of the school made tutorials that i've seen over years, didn't really have too much code, so it may not take much at all to get it working - it might even work straight away.
    There's always some work required - but the pay off will be worth the effort.
    Problems to look out for :-
    can't use 3rd party xtras,
    can't use embedded fonts,
    can't have easy keyboard entry (you'll need to redesign everything for touch),
    scroll text fields need a bit of reworking,
    11khz sounds files need to be set higher,
    some 8 bit graphics bomb out,
    there are some lingo commands that just seem to bomb out the app (work around these with other lingo commands!)
    embedded Flash objects need a little bit of work to get them working right,
    videos need to be in swf format.
    If you're only running them on (in school) iPads - i'd say go with the side loading option.
    best not to bother with the app store - if you can.
    There are a few other enterprise options that might also suit.
