Any way to get rid of the drop shadow on Screen Captures in Leopard?

i do a fair bit of procedure documentation work, and so use screen captures quite a lot. Since upgrading to leopard the screen grab tool now puts a 77(ish) pixel white border and drop shadow around the screen captures, which might look trendy for some things, but for the stuff I am doing is just annoying, and something that I have to remove from all of my screen captures.
Is there any way to turn this "feature" off.

There's a Terminal tweak that I got from Mac OS X Hints here:
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080629181121863
You just copy-paste a line into Terminal.app and after a restart the cursed shadows are gone!
If you do a Command-Shift-4 then hit space for a window grab, then grab the Dock, then there's apparently a single funkiness with this fix, in that the resulting image in this specific case (of the Dock) is stretched horizontally. I haven't seen mention of any other side effects, and otherwise it's working fine on my system, but be aware of that.
The Dock shows up fine in any other type of grab, so since I never take a picture of just my doc using the grab window function, I'm more than pleased to use this and get useful window shots back again.
Hope this helps!

Is there any way to get rid of the new control panel?  I hate it.  It pops up constantly when I scroll on Facebook or Pinterest, and my 3 year old turns things on and off frequently by accident.

Check: Settings - Control Center - Access on lock Screen = Off. Access within Apps = Off

I was able to solve this by turning on and off iTunes Match.

  • Is there any way to get rid of the audio message that I have unlimited minutes when I make a call? I want that 10 seconds of my life back :)

When I make a call I get an audio message that I have unlimited minutes and then dial the number. Is there any way to get rid of that message? Because I really want to get back those 10 seconds back, Ha, Ha, not!

Whoever thought this new search box GUI was a good idea was mistaken IMHO.
I've used the method shown above to return it to the old constant icon/text display with instantly available drop down of my alternative chosen search engines. All back to how it was in the previous version. Yay!
Displaying the chosen default search engine icon/text in the search box just seems a better and more sensible GUI feature to me than needing to hover over the box to show the same information (minus icon) . As for having to start entering search terms before the other search engine options become available - that is just plain ill conceived design.
The old design is more user friendly and should be the default setting but if some users want the new GUI for the search box why not include that under Tools > Options?

  • Is there any way to get rid of the private feature? Or to store history while using that feature?

I would like to be able to get rid of the private feature. It is too hard to manage kids browsing and this makes it all the more difficult. I would like to be able to get rid of this feature all together or at least be able to store the history while this feature is open. There should be some way to see the history.

Sorry, the Mozilla developers didn't include a switch to turn Private Browsing off. Any hack that I have seen posted would affect the main security file and possibly cause a security risk (advice provided by a Mozilla developer). There is a Bug filed to disable Firefox's Private Browsing mode when Windows Vista and Win 7 Parental Controls are enabled. I made a comment in that Bug in Oct 2009 and provided a list of threads (in Dec 2009) from this support forum that discussed the requests from parents for either a switch to turn the feature off or compatibility with Windows Parental Control, The final result of that effort was a comment about the (small - "two per week") number of threads where this topic was discussed. There haven't been any comments or any progress made since last April toward fixing that Bug. ''Please note that not every Bug is a fault with Firefox, a good number of Bugs are requests for enhancement of existing features or for adding new features.'' <br />

IMO, don't let the kids use Firefox due to this Bug. Or install a good external Parental Control program that records browsing history, as the one that comes with Windows doesn't do as much in Firefox as it does in IE, because of this Bug <br />

  • Any way to get rid of the awful white background in grid view?

The old dark background was infinitely easier on the eyes, and more attractive. When I look at stuff in grid view now it gives me a headache. Any chance of changing this back via terminal or something?

I would also like to know how to get rid of ugly *** white background. It ****** me off every time I have to look at it. There is nothing that I see here as being an improvement over the last itunes.

  • Any way to get rid of the unread count in the lock screen?

    Hi,
I am new to the Z10 and i was wondering if i could remove the unread count or even the new mail icon from the lock screen.
On the old 9780, i was able to change the notification in a manner that only signaled a new email arrive but without the number.
This is my work email and when i am out of the office i don't want to be greeted with the number of emails that accumulated in my inbox while i dared to stop working..
I wouldn't mind removing the new mail icon completly if that the only valid option..
    Thanks!

  • Is there any way to get rid off the network lost notifications - really ruins the iPad experience :(

Hey all, I'm getting really frustrated with constantly being notified that the network has dropped, especially when travelling through areas with patchy signal. I know I can turn off 3g but that would mean not using 3G when I need it the most. I think this notification is poorly thought out by apple - why would a user want to be notified every 30 seconds their signal is coming and going? Or indeed ever be notified? Surely that's what the signal bar is for. is there a way to disable this noification? Thanks for the help.

Assuming you're talking about the icons, only the developer can change those... Apple in this case.

  • Is there any way to get rid of the red "Update" badges for the iTunes store

app... without updating all your apps? I mean some apps get updates that are poorly reviewed or include advertisements, so I purposely don't update them. I know I'm not the only one who does this.
So you're telling me that as long as I have that (un-updated) app on iTunes, it will continue to alert me about an update THAT I DO NOT WANT???

That's correct...itune's app store will always prompt you to update. Hopefully Apple will change this policy!

  • Any way to get rid of the status bar?

hey there, i use safari 3.0.4 on my 10.4.11 macbook, and i know it's nothing really, but it bugs me from an aesthetical point of view.. i don't have the status showing ever, but sometimes when i click a link and a new window opens, the status bar will appear on the new window. i obviously close this, and again this isn't a big problem, just an irritation, but i'm wondering if there's anyway i can fix this so the status bar doesn't appear when i open a new window?
    thanks in advance, aaron.

    HI Aaron,
Just use the keyboard shortcuts. Hide Status Bar Command + /

  • HT4528 Is there any way to get rid of the recent iphone upgrade and revert back to default settings? Since upgrading I have experienced nothing but problems with Siri.

Since selecting the prompt to upgrade my iphone4s, I have experienced significant problems.  The "old" Siri disappeared and the new one is slow, ineffective and unavailable much too frequently.  The faded colors on my iphone screen are also troublesome.  I wish that I could revert back to the default settings
on my iphone4s.  Has anyone else experienced the above problems?

Apple does not support downgrading to a previous iOS.
You might first try a reboot:
press and hold the home and power buttons until the Apple icon is displayed, then let go.
    If it doesn't help,  try
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settiings.

How can I get rid of the drop down suggestion box that appears as soon as I type the first letter in the address box?  Runnung 7.1.2

    Writelady,
I do not know of any such option. I don't think that it is even possible at this time, however it doesn't mean that maybe sometime in the future Apple or someone else will make a way to do such as your request.
I do however think that you should let Apple know your opinion if you have not done such yet. You can give them product feedback at the following link. https://www.apple.com/feedback/safari.html
    I hope that this helps,

  • Is there any way to get rid of this stupid feature in iTunes for Windows? You've subscribed to a podcast but have more than five unplayed episodes. iTunes will stop automatically downloading newer episodes.

s there any way to get rid of this stupid feature in iTunes for Windows?
You've subscribed to a podcast but have more than five unplayed episodes. iTunes will stop automatically downloading newer episodes. You may get the following message:
iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?
You can click Yes to continue downloading additional episodes. Or you can just listen to any part of any episode and a new episode will download at the next update.

I believe that feature was added in order to reduce wasted costs to the Podcaster.
Podcasts incur costs - that have to be paid for, by someone. That cost will be the cost of hosting the Podcast on a server somewhere and more crucially (with regard to your point), the cost of the Podcast being downloaded to your computer. Every download costs the Podcaster money (typically, charged by bytes downloaded).
If that Podcaster pays for the whole thing personally, obviously they want to keep down any unnecessary cost to themselves. If the Podcaster is earning money for his or her Podcast (typically from advertising within the programme) then obviously, the advertiser only wants to pay for advertisements heard by listeners. So a download, not heard by the downloader, is waste of the Podcaster's money or no payment from the advertiser.
My own experience is that I only have to resume downloading once per programme. I'm usually several episodes behind on two different Podcasts that I follow, but I do not recall having to repeat the resume Podcast after that first time.

  • Is there a way to get rid of the other space without restoring

Is there a way to get rid of the other space without restoring on an ipad

RESTORE NOT NEEDED TO RESOLVE "OTHER" SPACE ISSUES
I may have a solution for this as I also experience this problem on the iPad 4 (retina display) 16gb where by I had over 2gb as "other space"
First and foremost "other space" should be between 800mb and 900mb - these are preferences, apps, syncing data (not the actual photos your contacts yo may sync)
I plugged my iPad into computer and did my normal sync
    I ejected the iPad.
I turned the iPad off by pressing the on/off button and then sliding across to power down
    I waited 5 - 10 minutes
I turned the iPad back on and waited another 5 - 10 minutes
I connected it back to my PC and opened iTunes
I noticed that the 2.74gb "other" space reduced to 835.4mb within a few seconds.
I downloaed iExplorer and installed it (free version will do the trick)
Have iTunes open with iPad already connected
    Open iExplorer and click "demo"
Under your iPad navigate to Media> Photodata> Thumbnails
Here you will see the following file names: 158x158, 240x240, and 332x332 with the extension .ithmb - make a note of these file sizes.
Right-click each one and hit delete and click ok if a warning sign comes up
    Eject iPad using iTunes
    Close any open apps
Do a hard reboot - hold the home button down and the on/off button together until the screen goes black and turns off - this can take up to 10-15 seconds to do
Sometimes the iPad may reboot by itself, and sometimes it may not - if it doesn't use the on/off switch to turn it on.
Open iTunes and then iExplorer and navigate to Media> Photodata> Thumbnails once again
You will see the same files you just deleted - but instead of being the size you made a note of, they will be considerably smaller.
Go to iTunes and check your "other" space and should be within the 800mb to 900mb
This also works with the iPhone 4s and other devices running iOs 4 onwards.
I have several devices currently on iOs 6.1.1 and all the "other" space currently shows between 800mb and 900mb which would appear to be normal
I hope all this helps and please let me know if it solves or doesn't solve your issues

  • X6 - Is there a way of getting rid of the "Active ...

I have an X6 on the T Mobile network. Is there a way of getting rid of the annoying "Active Diverts" message which pops up every time when making a call?

    photographer wrote:
Go to Settings > Calling > Call Divert > Options (lower left) > Deactivate all diverts.
    Good luck!!!
Thanks for the suggestion but won't this stop the divert to voicemail if the phone is engaged or I don't answer?
I don't understand why the phone needs to remind me there are active diverts every time I make a call.
