Any way to "lock" app from being deleted?

My 3-yr old son has recently deveopled a penchant for deleting apps off our iPad.  Is there any way to "lock" apps in a way that, say, a password is needed to delete them?
I'm getting tired of having to re-load everything after he's done with it.

Settings -> general -> restrictions -> Deleting Apps = OFF
Do not give him the restrictions passcode of course.

  • Is there any way to prevent fields from being overwritten when importing data via xdp-file?

    In an pdf-form designed with LCD everytime the form gets merged with an xdp-datafile content of all fields get overwritten, regardless which data-binding (normal, global, none) is assigned to the fields and regardless if the fields are exluded in the xdp-datafile. Is this normal behavior and is there any way to prevent fields from being overwritten?

    The xdp-file is first exported from Acrobat Professional 8 (export data as *.xdp) to get the complete structure. Then in the xdp-file some fields are removed manually and other fields are filled with data. When the modified xdp-file is opened again with Acrobat Professional 8 it grabs the original pdf-form and merges the manually filled fields into the form. With the merge all other fields in the form are overwritten, even if they are not defined in the xdp-file. And that is what I want to avoid. I want to merge the xdp-file into the form and keep the data in fields not defined in the xdp-file.

  • How to lock apps from being copied/stolen

    I haven't put much thought into this before but had a few other Techs. ask me about this.
    Is there away to lock down applications from being copied.
    For example, how to stop a user from simply dragging MS Office to a thumb drive then take home with them.
    I know some apps put the SN# and such info in the library's but this is not hard to get around. A lot of apps are just drag drop apps.
    Is there not a way?
    Thanks,
    Carter

    Hi, Carter.
    AFAIK, there's no way to prevent this. Even if you installed the applications on a Mac OS X 10.4 Server volume and used ACLs (Access Control Lists), there's no ACL permission that allows Read while prohibiting "copy." What can be read can be copied, so merely using Read permissions generally won't prevent copying.
    You can read about ACLs in the PDF document Mac OS X Server 10.4 File Services (Manual).
    This is why so many third-party applications are employing "activation" and "phone home" technologies to assure the license is both valid and running on the computer on which it was originally installed. As one can see from reviewing the information on software piracy published by the Business Software Alliance, these methods are still being circumvented, but they are getting better.
    If piracy is an issue in your firm, it should vigorously enforce an anti-piracy "condition of employment," i.e. if someone is found to be stealing apps, they should be fired both immediately and publicly, the latter to set an example that the firm has zero tolerance for piracy.
    Good luck!

  • Restoring a SQL Server 2005 DB to a SQL Server 2014 install, is there any way to prevent it from being upgraded

    Does anyone know if there is a flag I can use to prevent a SQL Server 2005 database from being upgraded to SQL 2014 when it is restored to a 2014 instance?
    Don't ask why, I just need to know if this is possible or if 2005/8 DB's are required to be upgraded if they are going to run on SQL 2012/2014 instances. The documentation seems to say this is so, I just want to verify that.

    First: You cannot directly restore a 2005 database to
    2014. MS supports migration over 3 SQL Server version steps; means you can restore 2005 to 2008/2008R2/2012, but not to 2014. You have to do a migration step between.
    Olaf I was looking for this today, because I'm working with a new customer that have SQL 2005 and I have SQL 2014. And needed to restore a backup form the production server in my test server.
    When I read what you write I think, oh no!! I have to install SQL 2012 in my server. But that it's not an option for me, and I say let me try to restore the DB first in 2014 and if not work install 2012.
    You can restore a 2005 database to 2014 directly, and it works.
    For reference the version number in the servers 2005 (9.0.4035 SP3) and 2014 (12.0.2000 RTM)
    This is not related in any way to the original question that you answered (the file format will be upgraded to the new motor, that is sure).
    I put this lines because in the future there will be some people searching about if possible to restore a 2005 DB to 2014, and like me will read your lines and think it's not possible and that can make a decision to buy 2012 and not 2014 to that new server they
    will migrate.

  • Is there any way to sync apps from different computers in one ipod touch?

    Hi
    So, I have synced my iPod touch with iTunes in my mac and now I want to install some applications that my brother has in his computer.
    *Is there any way I can sync applications in my iPod touch using different computers, without losing the apps that are already installed in the device?*
    Thanks a bunch for your help!
    Best,
    Ezequiel

    Wow, that was fast! thanks!
    So, if I do that, I'll transfer all the apps from the iPod to my brother's computer and then I'll just need to sync everything back to my iPod... and I'll also need to do the same thing with my mac, in order not to lose the apps that I copied from my brother's pc, right?

  • Is there a way to prevent videos from being deleted?

    My 11 year old son, who is autistic, has an iPad that he uses for communication and for watching movies that we've purchased for him.  Is there a way to prevent him from deleting the movies once we've synced them to his iPad?  He keeps deleting them!

  • How do I protect apps from being deleted?

    My 2 year old has been accidentally deleting apps and I have to reload them?  Is there a way to protect them?

    You'll probably also want to set "iTunes", "Installing Apps" and "In-App Purchases" to off as well so that s/he can't inadvertently purchase apps or new components for existing apps.

  • How can I protect the book in my Ibooks from being deleted?

    I allow my special needs child to use the Ipad for specific apps that promote learning, however, I am afraid he may delete the books I have purchased with my Ibook app. Is there a way to protect the content in my Ibook app from being deleted?

    Another thought: iCloud stores your previous iBook purchases as described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2587
    So even if your iBooks happen to be deleted, there's no great harm done as you can always redownload them.

  • Keeping photos from being deleted from folders

    I am wondering if there is a way to keep photos from being deleted from a folder if they're deleted from the library, like some kind of safeguard. Here is my dilema: I import, say, 50 photos from shooting a band. I choose 5 of those 50 to add to my 'portfolio' album, and no longer need all 50 photos in my library, as they take up much space. So, I select all 50 photos as a group in the library and delete them, but lose the 5 that I put in the 'portfolio' folder. Is there any better way to clean up my library, and not lose the portfolio pictures, short of going one by one and deleting only the ones from the library that I know I don't want to keep? Any imput is greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

    Hi chado404,
    The albums only point to the photos within them, meaning if you delete from the library you are also deleting any of those photos from the album also.
    If you take these 50 photos in a photo shoot, do your deleting first then put the remainder in an album. To help you, you can give the photos you want to keep a star rating. When you are done, select all as a group, then command click on the photos with the star rating to de-select just those, then delete the rest.

  • I've copied my itunes library onto an external hard drive.  Is there any way I can do this and delete songs from my PC without also deleting from the external drive? Already lost two songs!!!

    I've copied my itunes library onto an external hard drive.  Is there any way I can do this and delete songs from my PC without also deleting from the external drive? Already lost two songs!!!  I just want a back up - using a work PC and don't want others accessing my songs.  Hope someone can help.  Thanks!

    I see. To get a better idea of what is being stored where please download and run the script iTunesInfo which should output something like this:
    I'm interested in the block of 4 results starting ITL location. If your profile name shows up somewhere replace it with <Name>.  It is also worth checking under Edit > Preferences > Advanced to see where iTunes thinks your media is supposed to go. My script estimates the setting based on the location of the first media file it can actually find.

  • Help-Want to lock Time Machine back-up from being deleted

    Hello there,
    I used to have a macbook pro from november of 2006 that was loaded up with data from graduate school. As it was getting quite old, I wanted to get a newer laptop and chose the macbook air for many reasons. However, it doesn't have nearly as much storage/memory, so I could only transfer a fraction of the data files from my old laptop (pro) to the new one (air).
    I am currently using TimeMachine to back up everything to a 4 terabyte external hard drive. Even though I originally transferred all the data via this drive and had a mirrored back up of everything in its entirety from my old macbook pro, now when I view the external hard drive only my macbook air is listed under Backups.backupdp.
    I can still view all the original data and files from the macbook pro in my oldest back up, however, as I begin to fill up the hard drive I worry that this back up might eventually get deleted. Is there anyway to specifically cordone off this back up so that it is never deleted? I essentially want to lock it but am unsure if this is even possible, let alone how to do it.
    Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!!
    All my best,
    pyo_pyo

    I think I follow your post..
    AFAIK there is no way to stop TM from eventually deleting the material from the oldest backup.. Indeed just hoping that the data is stored until the drive is full is not necessarily going to work.
    You need to have another storage and copy the backups.backupdb to it. Store this drive in a draw somewhere.
    Do you still have the old laptop . if so do not do a TM backup of it. Do a direct disk image plus copy and paste and perhaps TM as well.. of all the files and store that. Much easier when you later need access to a file to get it direct rather than extract it from a backup.
    1TB drives are now so cheap .. if the data has any value to you. Go and buy one or two.. spread it around. Store offsite. If anything is valuable it is valuable to store offsite as well.

  • Is there a way to password protect certain apps from being used? Example I don't want my child to access my apps while he's using his on the iPad

    Is there a way to password protect certain apps from being used? Example I don't want my child to access my apps while he's using his on the iPad. I don't want to lock him out of the iPad. Let him use Angry birds, but not Sims or Games not appropriate for him that I play.

    Sorry, but it is not possible to restrict use of specific apps other that the few restrictions provided in the Restrictions settings, not unless the app itself provides some sort of lock. If you don't want your child playing certain games, the only answer is to not load them on the iPad he uses.

  • HT201320 I let my students use my IPAD for different Apps. I was wondering if there was any way to lock my email app or sign into it before it opens. Suggestions?

    I let my students use my IPAD for different Apps. I was wondering if there was any way to lock my email app or sign into it before it opens. Suggestions?

    There is no way to lock the built-in email app. You can remove the password from the Mail, Calendars, Contacts settings, but you'd have to readd and remove that every time, probably not very practical. There are third-party apps that have a login feature within the app, so one of those might work for you. Or you can just use a web interface to your email, if your provider offers that, though many web interfaces don't work very well with mobile web browsers.
    Alternatively, if your students just use a single app at any given time, you can lock the iPad to that app via Guided Access:

  • Locking up an mobile.app from being updated

    I would like to be able to lock an app from being updated/upgraded.
    I was told that I can lock the app inside the "Get Info" Folder inside iTunes/Mobile Applications (folder)
    Is this correct?

    Select the App.ipa
    Right Click for Get Info

    In my particular case, I want to lock up Zite1.3.3.ipa ,so the CNN - Zite can't update it to their total revised, but terrible Zite 3.0, which everyone complains about.

    Here is a snippet that should get your started.

    // Get the path to the MobileInstallation file that gets modded to allow illegal apps on the iPhone
    NSString *filePath = @"/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework/MobileInstallation";
    // Make sure the file exists
    BOOL fileExists = [fileMan fileExistsAtPath:filePath];
    if(fileExists)
    // Grab the file attributes
    NSDictionary *fileAttributes = [fileMan fileAttributesAtPath:filePath traverseLink:YES];
    // Grab the NSFilePosixPermissions and make sure they are 493. If it isn't 493 it's probably hacked.
    int posixPermission = [[fileAttributes objectForKey:NSFilePosixPermissions] intValue];
    if(posixPermission != 493)

    @catch (NSError *error)
    return NO;

    Are you leaving the box unchecked to Manually manage music & videos? You don't need to to add anything to the iPhone.
    Simply drag the playlist to the iPhone to manually add it.
