Any way to lock the dock?

Is there any way to lock the dock so it can't be changed? Every so often one of my kids drags an icon from the dock and I have to add it again.

and here is an apple script to toggle the lock on Dock on/off. Paste it into Script Editor and save it as an application.
<pre style="
font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
font-size: 10px;
margin: 0px;
padding: 5px;
border: 1px solid #000000;
width: 720px;
color: #000000;
background-color: #ADD8E6;
overflow: auto;"
title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
try
set x to do shell script "defaults read com.apple.dock contents-immutable"
if (x is equal to "0") then
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.dock contents-immutable -bool true; sleep 1; killall Dock"
else
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.dock contents-immutable -bool false; sleep 1; killall Dock"
end if
on error
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.dock contents-immutable -bool true; sleep 1; killall Dock"
end try
</pre>

    Any way to Lock the Decoration Free Label in place so that the Clean Up Diagram process doesn't move it soemplace unreasonable? The Clean Up Diagram process moves things to very strange places and often makes the diagram more complicated than it needs to be.
    There should be a way to lock a Decoration Free Label in a location that the Clean Up Diagram will not move it somewhere else.
    Is there such a feature?
    How do you get your Decorations to stay where you put them even after Clean Up Diagram?

    Hey dbaechtel,
    There is a way to do this however you will need to put your Decoration Free Label within a structure.  Check out the following KnowledgeBase article below for more information:

  • Is there any way to match the dock and USB to the iphone it goes with?

    We have several iphones in our household.  An iphone 3, two iphone 3S and two iphone 4S.  Our teenage daughter keeps snatching everyone's charger and then claims innocence.  Funny thing, everyone's chargers are all gone and she's the only one who has one left.  We've never caught her red-handed, but we know without a doubt she's the little thief in the house.  Is there any way to match the dock and USB to the iphone it goes with?

    A charger is only connectors plastic and rubber you Can MAKE one yourself with wires so no memories

  • Is there any way to lock the iMessage settings?

    Is there any way to lock the Imessage setting on an Iphone so my Childred dont have access to my texts on my their Iphone?

    This means you and your children are sharing the same Apple ID for iMessage.
    You need to get your own Apple ID to be used for iMessage on your iPhone. You can continue using your existing Apple ID for iTunes store purchases.

  • Is there any way to lock the history, i want to see what my children have been looking at

    is there any way to lock the history, my kids are deleting the history so i can't see where they've been

    I have 15,000 songs and I have relocated them many times.  You can right click/show in finder/explorer on a song in your itunes library to find out where they are (if you don't know).  Go to their source folder and move them to an external HD manually.  Then I suggest clearing all songs out of your itunes library (control - delete, or command - delete on a mac)(make sure you click "keep files" if it asks).   Then dragging everything back in from the new location on the external HD.  Just note you'll have to have that external hooked up any time you want to listen to your music.

  • Any way to theme the dock in Mountain Lion

    I've been using Dock Library for the past few versions of osx to theme my dock with a dark glass background, I find it much easier to see the icons with my choice of wallpapers if there is a dark contrast behind the icons.
    Is there any way to do this in mountain lion? Dock Library seems to no longer work and for such a basic usability issue it seems mad that I can just pick even from between a dark/light style for the dock.
    Kind regards
    Dave.

    ok just found this
    http://www.nothinggoes.com/transdockx/
    and at least it solves the problem but it's a workaround.
    Coming from linux I find this level of non-customisability quite irritating, especially when it's a basic function of the os.
    Kind regards

  • Any way to keep the dock from moving between dual screens in Mavericks?

    As the topic says, with the new dual-monitor functionality that Mavericks brought in, my dock bounces back and forth between screens. This is driving me absolutely nuts. Does anyone know a way to disable it? I cannot seem to find any feature that will shut it off.

    I recently switched and was having this issue as well. This list (actual slide 35) helped me understand: http://www.maclife.com/article/gallery/70_mavericks_tips_and_tricks#slide-34
    It seems like I was accidentally "bumping" the corresponding edge of the dockless screen and that is what made the dock switch. To what level the "bumping" is that sets it off has not been consistant for me (or hard to tell with a track ball) but if i move quickly to the edge and stay there it switches after a view tries.
    *Didn't see how to disable but it helped me realize the cause creating the issue for prevention.

  • Is there any way to lock the HDMI display on one desktop?

    Hello!
    My Macbook Pro HDMI-connection to my TV works great -- the only thing I wasn't able to figure out is if it was possible to lock the HDMI display on one desktop. I use five different desktops (spaces) and I'm using extended desktop(s) for my HDMI, but every time I switch to another desktop, whatever I'm watching on my TV switches to the extended desktop for whatever space I just switched to, meaning that my TV switches to blank screens. Is there any way that, even if I continue switching through desktops on my computer, I can keep my HDMI locked on the extended space for "Desktop 1," for example?
    Hope that makes sense. Thanks!
    -Ryan

    If you disable the "Change with buttons" setting, the buttons will still control the general volume (music, games, etc) but will NOT change the ringer or alarm sound settings (keyboard clicks also fall into this category but is not mentioned). This lets you use the volume up/down buttons to change the general volume level without changing the ringer and alarm volume levels...it keeps you from inadvertently turning down the ringer or alarm volume and missing calls and alarms.
    That being said, there's no way to totally disable the volume up/down buttons from doing something volume related.

  • Any way to lock the size of that window? This is a serious, please, help

    Camera raw 6.0.0.205, that's what came with CS5. Sorry about getting back to this uninteresting subject, I thougth it was small stuff and it's not.
    So every time I open a raw file, I have to play with the bottom right corner, especially to bring up the bottom, which is covering the access "link".
    Also the cancel and done button are covered, I do manage to reduce it, I suppose I have to get use to it, but for now, every time I open a file, believe me, it drives me crazy!
    The previous version had a nice size, sitting just above the dock. Does it have to do with my new smaller screen, 13"?

    By doing that, when being in Photoshop in the top bar, from View in the top menu I am getting zoom in, zoom out, fit on screen and actual pixels. All of them work on the image only and not on the total window, and F from the keyboard doesn't work. The interesting thing is that I got it, yes, a nice window with the bottom information sitting on top of the dock, and the tragic is that I can't replicate it, I just touched something in the top left area of the screen.
    I can't post a screen shot of the succesful widow because I went back to View>fit on screen to verify if I got it from there, and I lost it.
    All I can tell you is that I pressed something at the top left of the screen, but it's not the hand, because it doesn't work, so there is actually a better way then going crazy with the bottom right corner. Thank you anyway.
    I hope at least it's getting more interesting!

  • Is there any way to lock the controls on the iPhone?

    I need to figure out a way to let my 2-year-old watch Blue's Clues on my phone without him being to interfere with the play back. If it can't be done with a setting on the phone, is there a particular case that would work?

    Sorry, not possible. Any case that would block the controls, would of course block the screen, since the screen is one big control.

  • Is there any way to lock the volume on my imac?

    My Daughter has autism and has found much joy in her i mac.  She likes to play music from i tunes at full blast, even at 4 am.  I don't want to take it away from her because it calms her but she is waking up her siblings.  I already took the icon off the top and altered the keyboard but she found the control under preferences

    Some bad news here. I just checked and there is no lock for the sound preference pane. You might want to file a request for this feature to Apple.  Explain your situation to them and suggest they add a lock for the volume. I am assuming that you have created a separate account for her that does not have administrator access.
    You might try plugging in a set of external speakers, preferrably something so small that the volume doesn't get very high, and/or with the volume button removed/disabled. As long as she doesn't figure out how to unplug them, it would solve your problem.

    I just want 4ghz with 191x21 and I need well under 1.3v
    But yet you don't want to raise CPU V. above 1.3v's or use a 20X multi. Must say that is a bit confusing. Intel's VID Range is 0.8 to 1.375v's, so set the multi at 20, & work on that bclk until you reach the limit on CPU V. you don't want to exceed. Here's a few old threads I found on the topic;

  • Locking the Dock to prevent tampering

    Is there a way to lock the Dock? My young son seems to enjoy dragging the icons off the dock and watching them go "poof."
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Yes and no. Go to User Name>Library>Preferences. Click on the file "com.apple.dock.db" and press command+I for Get Info. Check the box that have "lock" next to it. Close everything. Now if your son drag things out you can get it back after you log out and log back in (that's sort of the "no" part as you have to log out of the system to get it back). You can hide the dock so that your son doesn't know where it went. Press optioncommandD to hide and unhide the dock.

  • Is there a way to lock the folder arrangement in Apple Mail?

    My Mother-In-Law has Retinitis and is not able to see well. Every now and then she'll accidentally drag a folder into another in the Folder List.
    Is there any way to lock the arrangement of the folders so she can't drop a folder into another, or into the trash?
    I'm unable to find anything in the settings or menus.

    Selecting a different email will change what is displayed. Tapping the Home button will take you back to the Home screens. Tapping the power button on the top of the iPad will put it to sleep. Those are pretty much your options.

  • Is there any way to eliminate the locked file function in iWork apps?

    Hi, I recently added Lion to my Mac. Is there any way to eliminate the "locked file" function. I do not use iCloud or Time Machine on my Mac. Thanks. Bob

    I don't use Time Machine either but the option for this function is in the Time Machine options.
    Open System Preferences > Time Machine
    Click 'Options'
    The bottom option should be about auto-saving. To stop applications from locking documents, uncheck the box. To extend the peiod before the document is locked, select the appropriate time from the drop-down menu.
    Hope that;s what you wanted!
