Any way to override default printer settings into a PDF

Hi -- I work for a large organization that has lots of computers and printers and prints a lot of forms and documents.  We are moving towards more digitization of documents and records including printing forms as needed as opposed to having large sets of forms onhand.  This should save us a lot of time and money once complete as these forms often change and the old process would be to then trash much of these documents and re-print for just one change.  The majority of our printers do have letter & legal trays as well as duplex support, however due to the vast number of users the default printer settings tied to each user and/or computer may be slightly different.  While standardizing all the printer settings across all users/computers would be one solution, we don't anticipate doing this as depending on the job peformed the different settings may be more preferable / advantageous for that user.
As such the other solution I can think of is to hardcode the specific printer settings needed to correctly print a large document into that PDF file which may differ from that computer's print settings.  For example, the default computer print settings may be to print on just 1 side but duplex would be encoded / scripted directly into the PDF so IRREGARDLESS of the computer/printer settings this document would always print duplexed.
Is there anyway to do this?  I would need to do more than just duplexing -- ie some form sets would need to be both duplexed and 'fit to printable area' whereas some would need to be only on one page and 'shrunk to printable area', etc, etc.  Our current practice is to insert a 1 page coversheet at the front of each document with the printer settings that need to be used for that form set, however this has been difficult for some users to do and has caused unnecessary time with our IT troubleshooting form printing.

Hi Brandon,
You can use the Print Presets in Acrobat for that purpose. Please follow the steps below:
1. Open the PDF in Acrobat
2. Open Document Properties dialog (using Ctrl + D)
3. Select the "Advanced" tab
4. In the "Print dialog Presets" section, you can choose DuplexMode as well as Page Scaling for this document.
Please let us know if this works for you

  • Any way to set default Save Settings? Fireworks CS3

Everytime I scan a picture and hit "Save As", then default
file type to save is JPG and at 48%.
Can I set the default to be PNG in the dropdown?
    Thanks!

Actually, the plain PNG file format is a pure raster/bitmap
    image
format. The vectors in Fireworks were added to the
    proprietary data
chunk that can be added to a PNG file. There's no intrinsic
    vector
support in the PNG format. The open vector format for the Web
    was
supposed to be the SVG format which still has little to no
    support.
    > Because of the file size, and bandwidth limitations, and
    poor browser

    light.
The advantages of the PNG format as an end format for Web
    sites are
still as real as ever: being able to embed a color profile,
    full alpha
transparency, adaptive lossless compression that handles what
    GIF and
JPGs traditionally did equally well in one file at usually
    smaller sizes
than either of them. All of that still holds true more than
    ever,
especially now that IE7 finally handles transparency. But
    none of that
is even remotely relevant to Fireworks.
It's that use of the format as a native editable format I
    question and I
still think it was a bad idea if only for how confusing it is
    for new users.

    like Flex.
Browser support and usage as a native file format within a
    graphics
application are two non-related and completely different
    things. The
browser limitations of PNG never affected its behavior within
    Fireworks
where it matters to Fireworks users. Being able to preview
    one's native
file in a browser is only a marginally useful side-effect of
    using the
PNG format and the only one anyone seems to be able to come
    up with.
No one expects a PSD or an AI file to be preview-able in a
    browser. Why
would that be so important for Fireworks? The PNG format
    might be open
but the proprietary data Fireworks uses to save its native
    data is not.
Again, what's the point? What's the advantage? Where's the
    brilliance?
You would not use a native FW PNG file on a Web site or a
    Flex app that
is bloated Hey! I can see what my site comp looks like in my
    browser.
Big deal...by Fireworks' proprietary data. You would use an
    exported
one. What's the big deal with Fireworks using the PNG file
    format for
its native files then? What is the advantage over an entirely
proprietary format like PSD, AI or INDD? To me, there is
    none. The only
"open" part of the PNGs Fireworks saves is the bitmap preview
    part. The
rest is a closed proprietary format just like a PSD or AI
    file. But wow!
I can see what my native FW file looks like in my browser!
    Big deal...
Sorry for the sarcasm but when people are loosing work I have
    to
question why the choice was made to use the same format and
    file
extension for a graphic app's editable files as one of its
    main flattened
exported ones. I see none, none whatsoever. What is really
    worth it
then? Not to me, not by any stretch of the imagination.

  • Can you save print settings with a PDF?

I have an 8.5"x14" PDF. Is there anyway to save default print settings with this PDF so if a user opens it on their machine it defaults to printing to 8.5"x14" paper? Right now it always defaults to the standard 8.5"x11". I'm not sure this can be done because it seems like more of a specific users machine thing. I don't think you can save print settings with a PDF can you?
    Thanks!

The "auto-formatting" of a hardcopy print format is generally the realm of the output device, in this case the printer. Printer software gereally includes an auto-format feature that selects the proper bin. For those who only have a "letter" tray, it usually asks to feed the right format manually, or switch trays. This is not a PDF feature but an output device feature.
    Hope this helps.

  • Overriding default printer margins

I am having trouble controlling the margins on my reports. In the report builder i have them set as one thing, but when i run the report they get set to the default print settings on my machine of 1 inch. Is there a way to override a user's default printer settings when printing a report thorugh a browser??
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Hi Patrick
If I understand your problem correctly, Though you set the margin as say "0" in report, still you see a margin of 1.0 in the output.
If this is the problem, the reason is Reports takes the hardware margin of your printer into account and adds to the margin you set in report.
Generally this is what is the expected behaviour from the users
In Reports 9i, you would see a way of controlling this by command line ignoreMargin
    Thanks

  • Default Printer Settings

Am just setting up my first Mac. Have connected a Brother 5150D printer which works fine both on Mac and on wireless network but..... as most of my printing is duplex (to save paper) I want to set this as the default and get two-sided printing each time I click the print icon in Office Mac or any other application. I have set up the printer and gone to http//:127.0.0.1.631/printers and set the parameters to duplex - no tumble and set the duplex option in printer preferences/layout. Despite these default settings when I click the print icon it always prints single sided. The only way I can get duplex printing is to click file/print/copies & pages/layout/2 sided/long edge binding and hit print. I have restarted the Mac after changes, recycled the printer, deleted and reinstalled the printer but the icon default seems to remain insistent on printing single sided
    Help please!!

    Hello dgcornett,
Depending on which printer that you have, the software interface to change the default print settings could vary. You can click the link below to view steps to change the settings on the Photosmart 7510 series printer, which is a recently released printer.

If you can specify the printer that you have, more specific steps can be posted.

  • Officejet 7310 "steals" my default printer settings

My Officejet 7310 "steals" my default printer settings from two other printers I use. I wish there was a way to have HP respond to me about this but no luck so far. I have installed a little program suggested at another forum - "set default printer" but it doesn't help. When I fax from the 7310, for instance, I get my unpleasant surprise the next time I print .
Any suggestions for a cure, or for getting HP's attention, or both?

  • Excel 2010 not using the default print settings

Currently got an issue with Excel 2010 not using the default print settings for a couple of users on our network,
basically when pressing cntrl P or selecting the print option from the file menu the printer settings are different to the print settings selected in the devices and printers menu, we have checked the print drivers etc but this has still not resolved the
issue, all other office programs are fine and also other users are reporting this issue more and more with different printers,
tried restarting print spooler service and re-installing office but this has come to no avail,
any ideas would be much appreciated!

    Hi,
This issue occurs because the Page Setup settings that you specify in your file override the settings that you specify in the printer driver properties.
To work around this issue, do not specify the paper size, page orientation, or page margins in the printer driver properties. Instead, specify these settings in your workbook.
To specify these settings, follow these steps:
1.Start Excel, and then open the workbook you want to change.
2.In Microsoft Office Excel 2010, click the sheet that you want to print, and then click the Page Layout tab. In the Page Setup group, click Page Setup to open the Page Setup dialog box.
    3.Click the Page tab.
4.Under Paper size, click the paper size that you want.
    5. Click Options button and in Printing Shortcuts tab, in the Paper source area, perform one of the following steps:  ◦If the printer can automatically select the correct paper tray to use, click Default tray in the First page list, and then click Default
tray in the Other pages list.
Default tray is the default setting in both of these lists.
◦If the printer cannot automatically select the correct paper tray to use, you may have to select the paper tray that contains the paper size that you selected in step 4.
To do this, click the appropriate paper tray in the First page list and in the Other pages list.
6.If you want to change the page orientation or its page margins, click the Finishing tab.
7.Select the options that you want.
    8.Click OK.
9.Repeat steps 2 to 8 for each sheet of your workbook for which you want to specify settings.

  • Default printer settings for HP Deskjet 882c

All I want to do is set this printer to print in black and white by default. If I wanted color, I would use my other printer ... I want faster than a snails pace so I brought this one back out.
Being a PC for my entire life, this should be an easy thing to set the default print settings on the printer. I don't see them!
What I am printing is emails off hotmail ... tons of them ... going back months ... so please don't ask me to add an additional step here ...
Pulling my hair out here ... help would be lovely!

You are on the right track for sure. The claim code is in fact printed in blue, so if your color inks are low or empty it will not show up.
I noticed there are 2 version of the 6500A, I will go under the assumption that you do not have the 'Plus' version since you didn't specify this, shouldn't be a big discrepancy either way (let me know if I am wrong).
Viewing your ink levels is covered here, your Cyan ink cartridge could be empty : http://goo.gl/RjIhbp
You can still find the claim code on the front panel of your printer without color ink. Go back to web services on your printers display and it will show your "*@hpeprint.com" email address. The prefix before the "@" is in fact your code.
Also note that your code has most likely expired, which happens after 24 hours of being generated. Not a big deal. If your code has expired you will have to reset the web services in your printer, this will generate a new printer code. You can do this easily from the front panel of your printer.
Follow this link and expand the section “What if I lose my printer code before registering?” under “Frequently asked questions (FAQs)”
    http://goo.gl/0WUyIe
(*a note on step 4, some firmware updates may have simplified this entire step to be simply “remove web services”)
After enabling the web services again the printer code area will still be blank if you are out of cyan ink.
Regardless the new code will display on the front panel (under web services).
I hope this gets you going with ePrint. Let me know if you are having issues printing in color beyond this, or if you are still experiencing difficulties with ePrint.

No.  Apple only keeps the pdf file for a book for 30 days.  Without the library and book project you won't be able to reorder the same book.

    Hi,
Try saving your settings as a Preset by clicking the Preset drop down and then select Save Current Settings as a Preset.
Next try changing the settings by selecting the saved preset.
That allow saving the settings for a specific printer, I assume it may also allow selecting these settings for another printer.
