Any way to password protect iChat logs?

Hey everyone,
Hoping you all can help me.. is there any way to password protect my iChat logs / individual files natively or even with a 3rd party program?
The reason why I ask is that I am a college student, and sometimes let other people borrow my laptop.. this isn't really a problem but sometimes they like to snoop around and I never know what I may have or may not have said, and it'd be much easier just to have a password and not tell them it then try to force myself to get the laptop back.. because of course they are majorly curious.
Thanks in advance,
Troy

Welcome to Apple Discussions, Troy.
Yes, you can create you can create a new encrypted folder and put all your files you want password protected in it. Use Disk Utility and File menu, "New image" icon. This Apple support article will explain how to create a disk image and encrypt it.
Tip: Do not chose to add it to keychain, or else it will not be encrypted.

  • Is there any way to password protect a project in aperture 3?

I have certain projects that I don't want viewable by others that may use my computer.  Is there any way to password protect a certain project or album to restrict access?

No. You can hide images using the "reject" rating, and you can password protect a Library by putting it on a password-protected sparsebundle.

OS X has fast-user switching and a built-in Guest account.  I never allow anyone access to my account.
To limit a client's view to just his/her Projects, use Aperture's "Favorites" function.  A forum regular -- Shutters33d, iirc -- posted this excellent suggestion just a couple of days ago.

  • Any way to password protect pdf document when emailing?

Is there any way to password protect an adobe document when emailing like you would a word document?

    Hi bcanino,
You can apply security to a PDF using Acrobat (apply an Open Document password, a Document Permissions password, or both). For more information, see PDF passwords, protected PDF, file permissions | Adobe Acrobat XI
    I hope that helps.

  • Is there any way to password protect access to a form?

We are going to use a form for a part of a clinical study and there are only 4 persons that should be able to enter information into this specific form.
I understand that I can choose to share the link to the form with only these appropriate persons but I want to know if there is any way I can password protect the access e.g. after they have clicked on the link, they need to write a password, then be able to fill in the form?
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
This is not something we currently support but you can add or vote on feature ideas: http://forums.adobe.com/community/formscentral?view=idea

  • Is there any way to password protect my entire site?

I am looking to create an agent resource site for my company and want to make the entire site password protected. Is there any way to do this with a muse designed site?

You can if you host with Adobe Business Catalyst and upgrade to the paid webMarketing hosting plan. Business Catalyst Secure Zones is the easiest way to do it with Muse.

  • Is there any way to password protect a shared library?

I have 2 shared libraries in my home network.  I have 6 iPad minis (I've got a lot of kids) and 2 AppleTVs using those libraries.  However, one library is more adult content (Rated PG-13 and R stuff) while the other one contains lots of cartoons and kid movies.  I want my kids to only be able to access the kids library while my other library is still available (without lots of account shuffling and such) when my wife and I finally get a chance to watch movies.  Is there a way to lock the one library down so my kids can't access it while in our network?

No. You can hide images using the "reject" rating, and you can password protect a Library by putting it on a password-protected sparsebundle.

  • Is there any way to password protect the ipad from syncing with a computer? Or Blocking it from a computer?

My brother borrows it and always adds music to it. I want to prevent this from happening.

Password protect the iPad and he won't be able to use it at all. Seems like the appropriate response if someone is using your belongings in a way you've requested they should not.

  • Is there any way to password protect launching Labview?

Is it possible to have a password mechanism on the front end of Labview 6i launch, to prevent unauthorized persons from launching Labview.
    Thanks in advance.

You don't say what operating system you are using, but this is the sort
of thing that user accounts are for. You can install packages so that
they are available only to different groups or users. This does mean
that each user needs to log out and into the machine in order for this
    to be used.
Another thing you can do that may work well enough is to remove the LV
items from the Start menu. Move the LV directory so that it is not
located in the user's Path, and rename the executable to something other
than labview.exe. Check the path setting by looking at the environment
variables. Then place either a LV VI that verif
    ies login, or a batch
file that verifies login on the desktop, in the Start Menu, etc. Name
it LV or whatever you like, and have it launch the real, sorta hidden LV
when the login is verified. This isn't bulletproof, but by renaming a
few things, people would find it difficult to even search for the thing.
I haven't tried this is awhile, but you used to be ale to make
directories hidden to the casual user.

  • Is there any way to password protect a hard drive?

What I would like is that if you connect a hard drive, it cannot be opened or accessed or have the content visible without putting in a password. Is this possible?
    Thanks very much.

Thanks. I'm leery of encrypting video files, especially segmented ones. Perhaps I shouldn't be.
Does the drive have to re-encrypt each time it's closed?
    Thanks again.

  • ISO: a way to password protect a volume or drive

Is there any EASY way to password protect a volume or drive either via the OS or by some utility? I'd like to have one drive with my sensitive docs that's password protected that I could carry with me and use on multiple systems. I see various encryption apps that involve elaborate schemes for protecting data. I'm looking for a simple Access/No-Access solution.
Ideally I'd like it so when I boot up or when I plug in my "protected drive" I'd be asked for a password. If I, or whomever is trying to access the drive, declines or puts in the wrong password the volume simply would not mount or better still, mount but be inaccessible until the password is entered.
With so much security built in to OSX seems like there must be a way to do this.
    Thanks!

You entered your password when you logged in; when you authenticated yourself. Unix has never done a second password; you authenticated yourself at the front door. You can certainly set up the file protections to keep other users out.
As for password-protecting a specific object, that's -- as others have stated -- an add-on. Or you use the built-in FileVault stuff, or external hardware.
There are current-generation drives that have password protection mechanisms or similar authentication -- USB keydisks and hard disks. Or you can use a commodity drive and the built-in FileVault. This akin to what you remember with the SyQuest drive.
Or consider products such as the following:
    http://www.pgp.com/products/wholediskencryption/tech_specs.html
    http://www.usbgear.com/USB-Encryption.html
Or what some of us do. Unplug the disk containing the data, and lock it up somewhere safe. If a desk drawer isn't sufficient, there are also physical disk enclosures with physical locks available on the market.
Realize that various of these encryption products aren't worth as much as the proverbial warm bucket of spit; various of these products either use colossally weak encryption, or have mis-implemented encryption. It would not surprise me to learn that some even have back-doors.

  • Is there a way to password protect internet access?

Is there a way to password protect internet access?
Is there a way to password protect the Airport function on my mac?
I have spent some time looking at the forums and on the internet trying to look for a app that can solve my problem. I wish to be able to turn off internet access. I have been using K9 web protection but have found some flaws and bugs. It is a great idea and works well except for the "block any access between(set time) and (set time)" function.
I want to be able to use my computer with out the worry of access to the internet. In my simplistic ideas I need an app that will simply toggle the AirPort function on and off and password protect it. That way when i dont want the distraction in my own life and when i let the rest of the family are playing games the internet is safely protected.
At this time the ethernet connection is not a problem.
I can simply un plug the router however the neighbours around me don't password protect their connections!
If any one knows of a way to solve this or any alternative solutions please let me know.
Many thanks for reading and I look forward to your expertise.
