Any way to protect table cells? Prevent table modification?

I have Pages word processing document that contains a two-column label (it's a grading rubric, if you care). The left column labels the data. The right column contains numerical scores and a few cells that sum these up to create subtotals and a grand total.
Problem: how to protect the cells that should never be edited, such as the four (in this case) which contain formulas?
Additional problem: I have the left column set to "Return key moves to next cell." This works fine. But, if you accidently press the tab key, you end up creating another column. So, is there a way to protect the structure of the table?
Thanks,
James

There is no way to protect some cells of a table.
The only feature available is : lock the entire table.
_Go to "Provide Pages Feedback" in the "Pages" menu_, describe what you wish.
Then, cross your fingers, and wait _at least_ for iWork'11

  • Any way to protect changes to our code?

    Hi All.
    There are 2 implementors for the SAP Implementation that we are currently involved in.
    For ease of use of client, both are supposed to follow the same naming convention.
    Now, is there any way we can protect our objects from being changed by other party? For eg, I could think of an authorization group which gives access to only those SAP ID's we want. We can attach such an auth group to programs.
    But is there any way to protect all possible changes - programs, dict objects etc?
    Hope my query is clear.
    Any clues?
    Thanks in adv.

    Hi
    If your developers use own users (and nobody else can use those users), you can insert the flag to protect the editor.
    This flag (is in the attributes of the report) can be removed only by the user setted it.

  • Any way to use filter to exclude tables in navagation pane?

    Is there any way to use filter to exclude a set of tables from the table list in the navagation pane? I have a number of tables (15+) starting with the same prefix eg. AB123 that I would like eliminate from the list. They sort right to the top and I always have to scroll down, and go through the show more dialog to see the entire list.
    I am sure I'm missing something, but not sure what. Help Center has nothing to offer.
    Thanks
    Glenn

    This has been mentioned on the forum before - basically the need for more elaborate ways to filter (multiple conditions as well as 'not like'). It is on our list for future consideration, meaning post-production.

  • Any way to protect a quicktime movie on the net?

    Hi,
    I wonder if there is any way to make a quicktime movie NOT downloadable from the web.
    I have a clip I would love to show on the web but I have to make 100% sure nobody is able to download and distribute it.
    Is there any way? Kiosk Mode seems not to be too safe (at least this is what I heard)
    thanks for your help

    The kioskmode="true" html tag only removes the "download" part of the movie controller and would only keep QuickTime Pro users from downloading your file via the controller. It also prevents "drag and drop".
    Any user could search through your page source code and find the URL to your QuickTime file. Dragging it to the "Downloads" window of Safari would allow them to keep a local copy.
    "Streaming" media files (requires special server software to deliver) are the most difficult to capture. Because noting is locally cached the best an average user could do would be to save a reference copy of your file.
    You could also use AppleScript to set internal flags inside the QuickTime .mov file as "un-editable". These flags can be reset using "hex editing" software but, again, beyond the scope of an average user. An example (one of mine):
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/D/
    Notice that the html code "forces" the QuickTime Player app to open instead of playing in a browser window. You own "Pro". Take a look at the menu options under the File menu.
    Notice that save, save as, export and share are unavailable?
    It would also be very difficult to use a screen recording app to capture my movie "window".

  • Need Help with giving Colors to Table Cells and Table Borders in Dreamweaver CC - Please!

    Hi,
    I am a teacher and use Dreamweaver CC to make my class web page.
    How do I give colors to the cell borders of a table I inserted?  How do I give colors and line thickness
    to table borders, too?
    I bought the David Powers DVD and it doesn't show that.
    Please help.
    Thank you,
    John

    Assuming that you have placed a table in your document and your CSS Designer panel is open
    1. Click the '+' sign
    2. Choose your option. I will choose 'Define in Page'
    3. Follow the above sequence, 1.click on table, 2.ensure table is selected, 3.click on style, 4.click the '+' sign, 5. see the selector appear.
    4. Click on the selector and choose the required Properties.
    You can do the same for the row (<tr>) or a cell (<td>). In fact, this is how you would go about styling anything in your document.

  • *****Is there any way to protect against this latest cyber "bug"?

    I just read a newspaper article this morning that announces a major danger of a new computer but to Mac OSX systems.  Does anyone know of a way to protect against this?  I have one iMac, but also have an Apple router in my home.  It is scary to think that a bug can take control of your computer.

    My understanding from posts here and official statements in the public domain is that Apple is working diligently on the issue.
    I fear that we older model/OSX owners may be out of luck with patch help from Apple, as officially Apple does not support older stuff. Fortunately, there are many folks in the WebWideWorld that still care about us old folks - so Google searching " yourCurrentOSversion BASH patch " may help in finding those who have tackled the task of helping old folks across the street.
    When and if you discover such help in the WWW, Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware... there will surely be nefarious characters looking to exploit this all-too-real fear (not paranoia if they are really after you)
    I follow with vested interest.

  • Any way to use merge for mutliple tables w/ shared PK?

    If you have multiple tables who share the same PK (or I should say the main table has a certain valye used as Primary Key and then multiple child tables use that PK as a foreign key), would merge be able to work for you?
    in my case I have one source table, which is loaded by flat file and represents a flattened record of what would in my database be separated into multiple tables.
    I need to update records from that source table where they exist (based on join of non-PK columns) and then insert where they do not exist. So I thought I could utilize the nifty merge command.
    However I am quickly realizing this is not a standard use of merge which seems to be designed for going from one source table to one target tables which are roughly equivalent. But in my case I have one source table which has pieces going into table A, other pieces table B, etc... and all those tables share an ID.
    So when I first merge into the main table I use a sequence to generate it's PK. But then the problem becomes, how do I then have this same PK used as the value for the FK in the inserts done by the following merge commands for this child tables?

    I could better understand what you have & what you desire if you post DDL for all tables
    & then you explain what is desired using actual table & column names.
    Simply put, I would not recognize any post SQL as being correct, since I do not understand the desired goal/results

  • Any way of repeatedly merging cells down a column?

    I want to merge blocks of 4 cells at a time (to create bigger blocks). I tried copying format, but that didn't work. As far as I can tell, if you want to repeatedly merge cells (I have a column with about a thousand cells, I want to manipulate it so there is 250 cells), there is not way you can do this (fill down etc doesn't work for formats like this).
    Am I missing something?

    I can't guess why you would want to do this, so my suggestion by not fit your need. I would consider adding a Table with only 1 column and 250 rows which can very quickly be sized as you wish. Place it adjacent to column of 1000 rows table. Select the new table by clicking on the table name in the Sheets pane to reveal the corner and side open-box handles. Position the new table to align the top border, then grab the bottom handle and stretch the table until it bottom-aligns with your longer table.
    It would also be possible to use the Table Inspector to set the row height exactly, to something like 2".
    In the end you will have:

  • Is there any way of making the "cell numbers" smaller on a lightroom web gallery?

    I am new to lightroom having used aperture 3 in the past.
    I am currently trying to create a html web gallery in order to put up some images online for a client. I am really happy with the flexibility of the lightroom galleries.
    However, the cell numbering on the grid pages are very large and the larger the number, the more of the number hides behind the image. I have been searching for a remedy to this problem as there doesn't seem to be any point in having a contact sheet for a client if they can't see what number an image is.
    I have attached a screenshot to illustrate.
    Has anyone else had this problem? Would really appreciate any thoughts.
    Thanks!
    Jack

    Well, you could probably hack the template file itself. I've never done it, but others have restyled markup in a variety of ways.

    well... there are some apps where you can store your passwords and stuff, but they will not prevent people from opening you photos/emails and get nosy while you are not watching.

  • Making a Table cell editable. Please Help

    Hello there,
    I have written an Inner class called CallHeaderRenderer
    which is used to select to highlight a row from a table.
    But i am unable to edit the column data I click on.
    Please can any one tell me how to edit the column value when you double click on it??
    Attached is my Inner class used to select the concerned row.
    I am unable to edit the concerned column.....
    Please help.!!!
    What is the statement to make the cell editable!!!
    class CallHeaderRenderer extends DefaultTableCellRenderer{
    public CallHeaderRenderer(){
    super();
    public Component getTableCellRendererComponent(JTable table, Object value, boolean isSelected, boolean hasFocus, int row, int column){
    // Set the highlight for record chosen.
    super.getTableCellRendererComponent(table,value,isSelected,hasFocus,row,column);
    return this;
    }

    A renderer has nothing to do with editing the cell. I suggest you read this section from the Swing tutorial on "Using Tables" for an explanation of how tables work. The tutorial will give one method for making a cell editable:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/table.html
    Here is an alternate way to make a cell editable:
    table = new JTable( ... )
        public boolean isCellEditable(int row, int column)
            //  All columns, except the first, are editable
            if (column == 0)
                return false;
            else
                return true;
    };

  • Multiple tabs in table cell (FM 7)

    Hey gang,
    I've got a table that requires multiple tab stops in one table cell.  They're easy enough to place--I use the Tab Stops segment in Paragraph Designer--but I cannot move back and forth between the tabs. Each tab stop must be numbered.  For example, I inserted seven tab stops in the cell.  Is there a way to step through the tab stops without leaving the cell?
    Thanks in advance!
    -terry-

    I need to add that the above may not work, depending on your platform and FM release.
    On FM7.1/Unix, Find randomly fails to find things in tables, and tabs are no exception. The hack above did not work.
    On FM9/Win7, Find of \t did navigate between tabs in a table.
    The real parent problem here may be: who gets to see the keycode from the [Tab] key? It appears that the OS GUI gets first crack at it, and what's passed to the app may not be an 09h character but some window nav event (that has to be converted back to an \x09 when the intent is to type a tab into the text, but when the focus is in an FM table, FM thinks you want nav).
    An FM-specific sub-problem is that FM doesn't support tables within tables (actually, it does, but you have to create a new text frame inside an anchored frame inside the table cell). Tables within tables would eliminate the temptation to tab.
    Tabs, of course, have been a CS problem forever, as there was never an agreed industry standard for what they meant (move 8 spaces, or move to next multiple of 8 space from left, or move to next tab stop, and what if none are defined, etc.). In FM, users who use tabs are generally doing so from habit from other word processors, and are grabbing the margin tab tool, rather than defining stops in Paragraph Designer. A later author updates the para format, resetting all overrides, and bye bye tabs.
    I usually use borderless tables these days for body text layouts that might historically have been done as tabs.
    If I need column-control inside table cells, I'll often use as many columns as needed, and straddle them in the cells that don't use the extra columns).
