Any way to quit vault backup safely?

I'm currently backing up my Aperture library to two vaults, each located on external hard drives. I very foolishly daisychained three external hard drives and then started to backup my vaults to two of them, which of course, is taking a ridiculous amount of time to complete (about 7-8 days already).
Is there a way for me to stop the vault backup process without doing damage to the library or without having to Force Quit?
Thanks

Thank you.  I assume that each file in the Trash bin has to be dragged one-at-a-time to the desktop file?  That's going to take some time.  I didn't see any way to select all files at once.  Apparently the Trash bin isn't a file since I can't find it anywhere under Finder.  Thanks again.

  • Any way to bypass iPhone backup so I can upgrade to 2.1?

I'm really looking forward to upgrading my iPhone to 2.1, but in order to upgrade it has to backup the iPhone first. It's been running for an hour now and the progress bar has barely moved! At this pace it'll take at least 10 hours to backup! And if I receive a phone call, I'm screwed. Since this is my business phone, chances are really high that I'm going to get a call in the next several hours.
So is there any way to bypass the backup so I can install 2.1?

You're suggestion works if you don't mind rebuilding everything afterwards. I was able to restore to 2.1 in a few minutes, but the iPhone wouldn't pull in stuff from my last backup. Something about it being incompatible.
So now I'm in the process of rebuilding/updating everything. Luckily most of my stuff can quickly be added back like contacts, music, etc. All my email accounts are IMAP, so no big deal there either. And now since 3rd party apps update a LOT quicker, that part won't be so painful.

  • HT201250 is there any way my time machine backups can get deleted accidentally?

I installed a new hard drive and am now trying to restore my old settings and documents from Time Machine, is there any way I selected the wrong disk and am deleting my time machine back ups?

How are you doing this -- starting from your Recovery HD and using Restore From Time Machine Backups, or did you erase your HD, reinstall OSX, and are using Setup/Migration Assistant?
Are you saying your backups aren't recognized?
If so, and your backups don't appear, you might have been bitten by a bug we've just found.  See #D10 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting for a way to tell.
Let us know the results.  If you do have the bug, we'll work out a recovery plan.
If you don't have the bug, we need to know just what you've been trying, and what's going wrong -- what do you see, or not see?

  • HT1414 Is there any way to recover the backup of your iPhone after restoring to factory settings?

I restored my iPhone4 to factoring settings without realizing it. I need some of the things that were on my last backup before i restored it. I was wondering if there was any way to reverse this.

With an iTunes back up you can find if you have one by following the steps below if you have a PC/Mac.
    Windows:
    Edit>Preferences>Devices
    Mac:
    iTunes>Preferences>Devices
With iCloud follow the steps below.
    1. Go to Settings>iCloud
    2. Sign In
    3. Tap Storage & Back up
    4. Manage Storage
This will show back ups made on iCloud.
If you have a back in iTunes or iCloud restore from that back up and see whatdatat comes back on the phone.
    Hope this helps

  • Is there ANY way to recover a backup done during sync?

I synced my phone on July 22. Tonight I finally decided to set aside time to update to iOS 5.1.1 (from 4. something). It backed up FIRST, but after the update, all of my contacts, all of my photos...everything is gone. And the most recent backup available before that is May of LAST YEAR. Which means that not only did the update kill my contacts, notes, etc (a lot has happened in the last year) it destroyed every single picture of my new baby and a lot of other very special photos. I am beside myself right now.
There has to be a way to restore from one of the countless syncs I've done between last May and tonight. Please. Someone tell me I haven't just lost my new baby's first two months of photos.
basic info: I'm running windows vista, iphone 3GS 8g

Ok now to answer my own question in a way, and I hope this helps others...but I found out that if you have your notes synced to your email account, all your notes save in a folder within your email account.  They all save under the folder called "notes." And I found all my notes there, even ones I had purposefully deleted a long time ago.  So before you go reset or whatever to your iphone, just check through your email account first!

  • Is there any way to take these backup fragments from my second to last backup and turn them into a usable backup? iTunes is showing me only the most recent.

Ok. When I synced today at 5:10PM, it backed up. Somehow, that sync deleted Garageband and all it's data (like the song I've been working on for a month), presumably because it was updated today. Before I realized this, I had synced again (10:02 pm). So iTunes only shows me THAT backup. I can see a bunch of files from the 5:10 backup. Apple told me that you, Obi-wan, the community, are pretty much my only hope. Have one of you guys (or gals) figured out how to do this?
Turn the quarks of a backup into the atoms of a backup?

sure pretty simple.  make a backup of your current settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US
then restore device from old backup you need pics off of
    then import pics to computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
you may need to save pics to camera roll first
then restore the new backup and sync pics back to phone via itunes
    Peace, Clyde

  • Any way to view iTunes backup data?

I sold my IP4 S after backing it up with iTunes with the intention of restoring it to my new IP5 when it arrives.  However, I don't remember the name I used for my IP4 S.  After doing the backup, I also backed up my IP 3G and didn't see my IP4 S backup from within iTunes. I'm wondering if that backup ONLY shows if I plug an iP into iTunes with the same "name"?
Is there anywhere that I can see my iTunes backup data that would allow to to see the name I used for my old IP4 S.  I certainly would like to make my IP5 look like my old IP4 S.  I think I've used this procedure in the past when I've upgraded my IPs.
Sure would save me a lot of time, but it's not the end of the world if that backup is now lost.  I'm thinking if I did have the name and I named my new IP5 as such, when I plugged it into iTunes, I could then restore it to look like my IP4 S.

Yes.  At the upper left of iTunes click Store, then View My Account...  Log in with your password, then View Account.  This takes you to the Account Information page.  Look for 'Purchase History," and click See All.

  • Is there any way to recover this backup?

I synched my iphone just before restoring it and I think it layered over the last sync with the empty, restored iphone. Now when I try to restore it from a backup the most recent is completely blank.

Yes but older versions are several months old and critical data and information is lost... How is it possible that the backup was layered over with nothing? Surely the information must still be there.

  • Any way to backup at least contacts without cable?

My wife's iPhone (original) is no longer being recognized by being plugged in after a drop. And she has not backed up for some time. Is there any way to at least backup contact information somehow, perhaps over Bluetooth (even her now ancient RAZR could do that). Is there any way to back up to a SIM card? Battery life is low on top of it all and I'm afraid nothing will be possible. Couldn't find anything easily on an internet search either
Any help would be appreciated ... Thanks

"Is there any way to at least backup contact information somehow, perhaps over Bluetooth "
No. Iphone supports bluetooth for telephone devices/functions ONLY.
"Is there any way to back up to a SIM card?"
No. Iphone does not store to SIM cards.
Mobile me syncs via the internet.

  • Any way to restore a lost backup?

Today I was having trouble with my iPhone, so I connected it to my girlfriend's macbook air. The iPhone needed a software update, so I did it. When I plugged it back into my own macbook (pro), iTunes made a backup of my (now blank) iPhone. If I try to restore it from a backup, my only option is a backup from after all my photos had been wiped off the phone. I have lost a year worth of photos as I don't have iPhoto and haven't recently saved the photos to my computer's hard drive. Is there any way to access a backup from say yesterday, or at any point before this blank backup?
I should add that I do not use time machine or cloud. My macbook is old enough that apple no longer supports it with software, so I am stuck at 10.5.8.

I hooked my iPhone5 up to iTunes and it automatically did a restore to an older backup
Hogwash...there are to many steps involved for this to occur "automatically".
Sorry, your data is most likely gone. iTunes only keeps one normal backup per iOS device & overwrites the existing backup each time you sync. You can look here for your existing backups: iTunes>preferences>Devices.

  • Any way to view backed up notes from iPod touch?

I accidentally deleted a note on my iPod touch, but just remembered that it'll probably be in the automatic backup from when I last connected it to my PC.
Is there any way of parsing the backup data to read the note? I don't really care about actually restoring it to the iPod, I'd just like to read it. Perhaps someone's written a 3rd party utility for this? Or maybe the data is in plain text somewhere in the backup files?
Alternatively, is there any way of just restoring this one note without blatting over all other content on the device? If I restore, will it delete more recent notes, or just re-add the older ones from the backup?

if i remember, i read that the notes will not backuped or so. My way is, using the email button in the notes app to send important things to my email account and store them.
second question ... yes were are a lot of third party "productivity apps" in the App-Store to solve your problem in different way, local or throught the web.

  • Any way to restore Time Machine deleted old backups?

    Hi,
I've just discovered that Time Machine has successfully deleted my very first backup and all my files tediously archived from 2002 has disappeared. TM has failed to warn me that my disc was full.
My only question is there any way at all i can recover these files? I have unfortunately dumped all my old cdrs.<proceed to wail uncontrollably>
    Help.

I am beginning to suspect that when TM informs the user that backups are being deleted, it is not with a popup on the desktop, but rather via the console only.
No. that would be totally absurd.
Absurd, perhaps, yet possibly true. From reading these boards, many people have never gotten that message, but the logs do show that old backups are being removed.
I was also being sarcastic but I suppose unless you know me, it does not show
No user is reasonably expected to monitor console for a message like that.
I agree but the facts show that very few have ever gotten this warning. Again, I was being sarcastic.
I did get a regular desktop popup warning me about this when my TM drive filled up. but as I understand this particular feature is quite buggy and many people don't get those popups.
If it is buggy as you note, then what I wrote is not so absurd after all, IMO.
TM is not quite ready for Prime Time. It is a useful tool, much like a hammer or tire wrench, but it is only a tool.
