Any way to recover a user account that was deleted?

I probably know the answer to this but I screwed up and deleted a user account with settings, documents, applications migrated from one Mac to another. I had two user accounts for my wife and when I deleted the one which I shouldn't have deleted she lost her iPhoto pics. Any chance that account is buried somewhere deep in my Macbook?

The files are still on the drive in the form of 1's and 0's, but the "directions" to them have been changed so the next time the computer writes data it can likely overwrite part or all of the deleted files.
So you can't boot that machine or download anything to it less you risk overwriting files.
So, what can be done?
Use one Mac to another using Firewire Target Disk Mode and running a $99 DataRescue to scan the drive and output the files it finds to another hard drive.
This way one can pick through the files recovered and find what your looking for.
Luckily Pictures are rather easy to find, it's text files that are a pain..
Another option is to install OS X on a external drive and then use that to Data Rescue the target drive.
I've covered it all here,

Once the files are recovered you can recreate the account and do your best to get it back to somewhat.

  • Is there any way to recover a voice memo that was not backed up but accidentally deleted?

Today I accidentally deleted a very important voice memo in the blink of an eye. As I forgot to back it up I know this is probably not possible and I understand that. Is there any way to recover this?

I had exactly the same problem, I was trying with some software of wondershare but wasn't possible, so, it seems like we lost that important info!.

Is there a way to recover a .pages document that was thrown in the trash and then the trash was emptied Saturday, May 3, 2014?

Shut the Mac down immediately (may already be too late) and buy some data recovery software, you may have a chance of recovering it.
I assume that you're asking because you don't back up?

  • Is there a way to create a user account that "expires", or self deletes itself after a set amount of time?

I am hoping to find a way to create an Admin account for our parent body that can be used for items at home, "adding printers, software, wireless settings, etc...), but have that account either "expire" or self delete itself after say 72 hours?
    Thoughts?

Will they be needing to keep files saved for a while?  I'm guessing no, since you're ok with it auto-deleting after a short while.
You could just use the guest user:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11321
But I'm not aware of any way that you could setup an account to expire.

  • Is there a way to recover a word document that was auto saved before a power outage?

I was working on a document that was previously saved, went to the save the darn thing, and of course the power zapped out.  It was in word 2010? and even when searching for "AutoRecovery" files it is not there.  just the original document opens, not the modified one.  Please if anyone knows how to find a recovered one, or if it is even possible can you let me know.
    Thanks!

I was assuming you meant 2011 and not 2010 since 2010 is a Windows version and not Mac
First a disclaimer, right now I am on a PC and not my Mac so there may not be a one-to-one matchup.
Clicking on the main Word drop down, this may be under Preferences, I have a Word Options button.  From there do you have Allow Background Saves checked?  Also, the button File Locations; find AutoRecover Files and see where those are located.  Then using Finder, go to that location and see if you can find a file with a date/time stamp for the time of the power outage.  If there is a file, open and see if that is what you need.
If there are no files, or cannot find the recovery file location, there may not be much option than to try and redo all the work up to the power outage.  Word is supposed to auto save, and take you to the last saved form of files before an exit that is not according to the rules...it is supposed to do that, or so it claims.

  • I don't understand apple computers.... I am writing a formal piece and then when I save it I don't notice and one page is fully deleted. It's already saved. Is there any way I can get it back what was deleted??

I don't understand apple computer. I am writing a formal piece for english and one page of it gets deleted without me knowing. I save this file. Is there any way I can get it back?

Are you running Mountain Lion (Mac OSX 10.8.x)? If so, and you are using Pages, you should be aware that Apple has implemented a new auto-save feature for its software (and other software that has been written to comply). The very good news is that you can retrieve  prior states of your document. The bad news is that the feature makes it easy to modify your work inadvertently by saving your changes without your knowledge. I don't think Apple has it quite right yet. In any event, research OS 10.8 auto-save and see if this might be your problem.

  • Is there any way to fix a word .doc that was emailed to me. I get these import warnings.

This is what I get when the warnings pop up....
Import Warning - Character scale isn’t supported and was removed.
Import Warning - Paragraph borders behave differently in Pages. All borders except complete outside borders were removed.
Import Warning - Text frames aren’t supported and were converted to text boxes.
This email is important and I need it to appear the way it was sent...
    Thanks

If you need it to appear exactly as the original, have the sender send it as a PDF. Otherwise you will have to recreate it in Pages.  There is no way to ensure anexact translation.

  • How do I recover my browser history that was deleted today?

I accidentally deleted all of my internet history, and there were sites on there I needed to bookmark for a school research paper. How do I recover the history? I only need the history from today.

Do you not still have the email from Apple that included the key? If you do, just use the key to unlock Pro on whatever computer you're using now.

  • How can I recover a iTunes backup that was deleted/replaced?

I recently did the iOS6 update from my computer. I plugged up my phone to iTunes and it downloaded the software and backed up my phone just fine no problems. Somehow my phone didn't restore with everything like it should of, but I wasn't worried because I knew I backed it up to my computer and it even had the date and time in the Preference selection of iTunes. Well I decided to go to the Apple store since I was on my way to the mall and just let them restore from backup, why did I do that SMH......The guy at the store decides to back my phone up again, which he is backing up my phone which has NOTHING on it, I mean NOTHING. So the NOTHING backup replaced the backup that actually had everything on it. I AM PISSEDDD, I lost everything. And I hadn't backed my phone up to iCloud because I don't have wi-fi. At this point I just need all my stuff back, and I don't know what I could do. HELPPPPP!!!

If you were using OSX 10.7 then you could go back to a previous version, but you have overwritten the file.

  • Is there any way to recover unsaved notes in a calendar

I typed a note in the calendar section Labeled URL.  When I went back only the first 2 sentences were saved. Is there any way to search for the information that was typed?
Thanks so much for any and all input. I know I shouldn't have entered it in that space...I must have spaced out

    Hi SandieMo,
If you made an iTunes backup of your device while you still had the Calendar item listed, you may find the following article useful:

  • What is the password for the new user account that is set up via Migration Assistant?

I recently purchased a new Macbook Pro, and used Migration Assistant to download My Documents from a previous PC desktop. The migration was successful, but afterwards the new user account that was set up to house all the new documents became inaccessible to me.
My administrator's password works for my computer and I am able to log in and out, change settings, etc.
However, if I try to log in to the new user account, no password works. Through the administrator's account I have also attempted to change the password, and I am allowed to do so, but when I use the new password I set up, it still denies me access.
Additionally, if I log out the administrator's account and click the new account to log in, it prompts me to make a new password for the account, and whatever I enter is also rejected as "incorrect." (The screen shakes)
I am very frustrated my inability to access this information I must use to work, and I have no idea what the password might be, or how to change it properly.
PLEASE HELP COMMUNITY! I have only had my mac for about a week and I have had it up to hear with this "user friendly" system.

You can change the password from Visual administrator. login to visual administrator, and select services,, under that you will find the system details. change the password.
even if the visual administrator password is expired then u can go thorugh configtoo.bat and there u can change the password.
if that even not possible then u need to login to sql and can execute the commands for changing password.

my laptop and ipod were stolen, is there any way to recover my purchased songs?

Was your backuip copy of your computer stolen as well?
If not, then use it to put everything back.
If it was stolen as well, then you can try contacting itunes support and asking for and exception to the one download.  They are under no obligation to allow this, but it is worth a shot.
    Sorry about your computer.
