Any Way to Refuse a WiFi Network Permanently?

There is a WiFi network I absolutely never want to connect to, but my phone keeps falling back to it. Is there any way to tell it to never use it? "Forget"ting doesn't do it, and I don't see any other controls.
(It's purpose is to intercept all traffic and show directions for getting onto the real network. Unfortunately, reception on the Instructions network is better than the real thing.)

Do you have Ask to Join Networks selected at Settings > Wi-Fi?
If so, disable this. When this is selected, you will be prompted to join an available wi-fi network that you haven't connected your iPhone with previously.
If you have joined this network previously, after connecting to the network select Forget This Network. When doing so, your iPhone should not connect to the wi-fi network automatically when in range of the network and with Ask to Join Networks turned off, you won't be prompted to join the network or any wi-fi network you haven't connected your iPhone with. If you know a wi-fi network is available that you want to join, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and select the network, which will be saved after joining the network.

  • Is there any way to save a wifi network so that you don't have to join every time you open your mac?

I was wondering if there was a way to save a wifi network to your macbook so that when I open it everytime I dont have to connect it everytime.

It should remember your networks by default, but in case that option is turned off, go to System Preferences - Network - click Wifi on the left - click Advanced - and tick "Remember networks this computer has joined".
If that is already ticked, your network settings may be corrupt and it may help to create a new location - in the Location menu at the top of the Networks screen, click Edit Locations, add a new named location and try again with the wifi connection.

  • Is there any way to prevent a wifi network from becoming known?

    Hi,
I'm on mid 2010 Macbook Pro running OS X 10.9.4 and I can't figure out a way to prevent a certain wifi network from becoming known. My college's network requires an in browser sign up every time and once the network becomes known it gives me an SSL error until I remove it from the list of known networks and refresh. Not too painful, but definitely something I'd like to fix. The only post I could find about this was from 2007, so I wanted to see if anything had changed. Any ideas?

In Network Preferences > Airport > Advanced, do the following:
Delete the network from the saved list of wireless networks
UNcheck "Remember networks this computer has joined"
Also (and this is equally important), every time you join this particular network, be sure to UNcheck "Remember this network" in the sign-on dialog.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • Is there any way to create a wifi hotspot for my macbook using my IPad?, Is there any way to create a wifi hotspot for my macbook using my IPad?

I am going to a lake cabin in Northern Minnesota for a week and need to get wifi for my Mac.  Is there any way to create a wifi hotspot using my Ipad so that I have internet service for my laptop?

No, iPad can become a hot spot, but if you have an iPhone, it can tether if you have a data plan that incudes the tethering option.  With AT&T for example, you can add tethering for $20 month or for $45/month, you receive tethering and 4GB of data per month.  If you have the unlimited data plan from AT&T you'll unfortunately have to give it up if you want to tether.  You can also go to almost any carrier and purchase a MiFi unit which may work for you.  Whether iw will work in Northern Minnesota is something only your carrier could answer.

Is there any way you can block wifi use on 4s

If you mean you want to set a restriction code for WiFi there isn't a way to do that.

  • HT202639 Is there a way to set a wifi network as default?

so, i am trying to keep an airstash connected to my device, but it toggle back and fourth with another wifi signal. Is there any way to keep the airstash connected as default?

Go to Settings/Wi-Fi, tap on the other network, tap "info" and hit "Forget this network"
If you have "ask to join networks" activated as well, your device will connect automatically to those you joined before and choose not to forget.

  • Best Way to Have 'Extended' WiFi Network Through Long House

HI, I'm helping a friend setup his wireless network at his house. The house is rather long & narrow.
We setup a new Time Capsule at the far end of the house in the office. It functions as the base station, and needs to connect to the cable modem, 1 non-wireless computer, and a USB printer back there.
Then we setup a new Airport Express (n) in the middle living room of the house. This was mostly to get extended range, but also to plug audio into home theater for AirTunes.
The TC is set to a/b/g/n (for an older MacBook and two iPhones) 2.4ghz on a free channel. When connecting to it we get great speeds, but it does not have the signal to carry to the far side of the house. I even tried it initially as 802.11n ONLY at both 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz with a new MacBook, but it still didn't seem to get a whole lot more coverage (not enough, at least).
I tried setting the AE to either 'Extend My Network' or to 'Participate in a WDS'. In both instances, we get more signal at the far end of the house (not as much as I would have thought), but the speed is HORRIBLY slow! It is far less than half the speed. As soon as we move back in range of the TC, the speed is generally really good again (checking connection by MAC address).
    • So is there ANY way we can get coverage over the whole house for both 802.11n and 802.11g devices, and still have decent throughput??
Thanks! Unfortunately they don't have ethernet running through the walls, otherwise I'd try that. And I'm terrified to think what the backup times might be like when we start trying Time Machine!

Hmm, we could try seeing if having both in the center would provide enough reach. Not sure if it would. The problem would be wireless access for the computer in the back office (old iMac, no WiFi), and printing to the printer back there.
    • In this scenario, would adding a second Airport Express in the back room just for the computer and printer slow the network from the base station(s)?
    • What about putting just TC in center living room on a/b/g/n, and AE in back office for computer & printer? Pros/Cons? We'd just have to figure out a way to get the Airtunes in the living room (I'm pushing him for Apple TV).
The reason for TC for Time Machine backups is very simple. I know this couple would not remember to regularly attach a hard drive to do Time Machine backups. It needs to be as 'automatic and painless' as the TC was 'intended' to make it, otherwise I know it just won't happen.
    Thanks again!

  • Hi Everyone, I am Sreedhar , I need to extend the Wireless Network which is connected through cable in Airport Express, Without Airport Extreme Base Station is there any way to extend my WIFI

    Need Help

Let's see if I can get this straight.
You have an Airport Extreme base station that is set to "Create a wireless network" and you have the box checked for "allow this network to be extended"....
Then you have an Airport Express that is set to "Extend a wireless network" which you selected the name of your network in the box...
    Correct?
    See this Apple document:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4259?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The wireless unit on the right of the diagram can be either of the newer Apple base stations.
    Extreme, Express, Time Capsule

  • What's the best way to extend my wifi network w/ airport products?

First off, thanks for your help in advance.
I have a u verse triple play 2wire modem which is my base wifi, which I never use for anything, but it came as part of my uverse. To that I have 2 wifi routers hooked up, a cheap netgear n router and an airport express. Both work great but neither reaches the master suite nor the master bath. I'd like to either move one of those or buy another and wirelessly connect it to my existing network. My thought is if I can I'd like to keep the AX where it is and move the netgear, since I live in FL and the power goes out sometimes for a few minutes. The netgear needs to be turned on again but the AX starts up on it's own. So if the netgear is in a different spot affecting service in the nether reaches of my home, I'll be more likely to turn it on. As it stands now, I usually don't bother with the netgear at all since I've added that AX. If it's on, it's on, but I usually prefer to connect to AX.
I'm not unwilling to purchase another AX or Airport Extreme or even a time capsule.
In my home there are 3 iPads, 2 iPhones, an iMac and a MBP along with 2 dell laptops, an xbox 360, a wii and a PS3.
Any advice would be helpful. I've heard there's something called WDS but I don't know what it is nor how to set it up.
    thanks again!

since I live in FL and the power goes out sometimes for a few minutes. The netgear needs to be turned on again
Great how privatised power utilities are rapidly approaching third world standards on power reliability. Power network equipment from UPS.. it doesn't have to be expensive.. a few dollars for SLA battery direct.. amazing how it improves the reliability of networks.
What model netgear? When you say it has to be turned again does it need rebooting or just uses a soft switch and needs power on.. no option to power on automatically after power drop out.. ??
How are the 2 wifi routers hooked up now?? Ethernet back to the uverse router?? Or some other way?
You will have issues.. you cannot do wireless extend (repeater in normal speak) between apple and non-apple equipment.. WDS will cause everything to drop back to G wireless with WEP security.. don't go there.
I'm not unwilling to purchase another AX or Airport Extreme or even a time capsule.
Sorry but that makes wireless extend really hard.. you might get the netgear to extend to the uverse.. since they are not apple products.. but even then you may not find it easy.
What about spending some money.. or is it just apple routers you don't want to buy.
A pair of EOP adapters might do the job brilliantly and give better speed and reliability than any wireless bridging ever can..

  • The up and down arrows for the Finder columns are difficult to bring into view - any way to make them easier or permanent?

    Hi -
My husband works with multi-level folders, each with way more content than will fit on the screen.  He says that he can't get the up and down arrows to show up when he is looking for a file in Finder, or wanting to move or copy files to another folder several layers up.  They will apparently show up at times, but if he isn't fast enough, they disappear before he can get his mouse over to them.  He cannot use a Magic Mouse or a touchpad, which would solve the problem with finger gestures.  He thinks this happened when I put Lion on our computers several months ago.  My own files are not so extensive, and I can use a Magic Mouse, so I haven't noticed any problem.
Was there a change in Lion - assuming that finger gestures would replace the up and down arrows onscreen?  Is there a workaround to get this functionality back?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Canon cameras don't play will with other FireWire devices on the same bus. You could try disconnecting the WD drive and connecting the camera directly to the computer without and capturing to the internal drive. It should be fast enough for DV.
One probably is that your version of FCE is not supported on the version of the OS you are running. The last version I think that works with that software is 10.4.10 or earlier.

  • Is there any way to solve the wifi problem with lion?

Since upgrading to lion my iMac has been having severe problems connecting to my wifi router. As long as it doesn't go to sleep it is fine, but if it does then I have to restart the computer to connect to the router. I know that it is lion as I've got 2 iphones, 2 ipads, and 2 laptops in the house all operating without problems. Please any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried contacting apple and they won't help me unless I pay them, or sign up for apple care. I already paid for the **** computer and the OS why would I pay them to address an issue that is clearly on their end when my computer is still under warranty?

There's a number of things you can do to try to diagnose the problem, and hopefully it doesn't have to do with a hardware problem.
I think the number one reason people are having problems with Lion is because most of the installations are UPGRADES, not CLEAN installs. While it's much less of a hassle for an upgrade rather than a clean install, weird and random problems can arise from an upgrade to an OS.
Another reason is the fact that this is a dot zero release, meaning it's version 10.7.0, meaning there are bugs that have not been fixed yet.
So the first thing you can do is to repair permissions in Disk Utility and restart your Mac. I don't think that will exactly fix the problem, but it's a step.
When it's restarted, wait a few minutes and put it to sleep and wake it up and report back.
