Any way to search for and get rid of duplicate songs?

Is there any way to recognize and then get rid of duplicate songs? I copied some songs from a different computer and ended up duplicating some of my existing songs. Any way to search for and then get rid of the duplicates?

The apple algorithm for detecting duplicates is not great. I did this yesterday on a library which had got bloated by various itunes 'organisations' and had 15000 songs in it and downloaded idupe. It seemed to work very well and got me down to 10,000 songs. 8USD shareware.

  • Is there any way to search for a term using the Firefox search field, and have the results automatically open in a new tab?

    Is there any way to search for a term using the Firefox search field, and have the results automatically open in a new tab? When there was support for Google Toolbar, I was able to do this; now, whenever I want to search for something, I have to open a new tab to do it, and cut-and-paste my search into the search field in the new tab. I used to be able to highlight, drag, and drop something into the search field and have it automatically open in a new tab. This is enough for me to switch to Chrome . . .

    Set a preference to have searches from the Search Bar (upper right) automatically open all searches in a new tab
    #type '''about:config''' in the URL/Location/Address bar and press the Enter key
    #if you see a warning, accept it (promise to be careful)
    #Filter = '''browser.search.openintab'''
    #in the lower panel, double click the item (or right-click and choose "Toggle") to change the value to "true"
    #close the about:config tab and test

    About Google toolbar............
    Google decided that they will no longer produce the Google Toolbar for Firefox 5 and newer version. It is best to move on to other alternatives than to try any "hacks" to the toolbar that may or may not perform in the future. Future versions of Google toolbar will only work with IE7-9. Google Toolbar is not available on any other browser, even Google's own browser.

  • Is there a way to search for and install all uninstalled fonts? I'm getting bored of opening all the files up.

    I've got a file of about 100 typefaces, which is 1000s of fonts. I want to install them all but I dont want to have to open each file and install them all individually (or in small groups).
    So is there a way to search for and install ALL uninstalled fonts in one hit?
    Cheers.

    The best solution I've come across so far is to dump all movies into a shareware app called iVI. It'll show whether each movie has subtitles or not.

  • Any way to search for transparent items?

    Is there any way to search for items that have an opacity of less than 100%?  I found that some of the advertisements I placed inexplicably came in at 76% opacity.  And I noticed some tiny endmark graphics came in with 0% opacity.  I don't know why.  I'm just trying to make sure I didn't miss correcting anything.
    Thanks, Phyllis

    Err, whoops. That's not going to work, because there's not a list of images in the document, only a list by page. And it's probably better to use Graphics instead, which include, e.g., PDFs.  So you probably want instead:
    var d=app.activeDocument, im=d.allGraphics, i;
    for (i=0; i<im.length; i++) {
      if (im[i].transparencySettings.blendingSettings.opacity < 80) {
        alert("Page "+im[i].parentPage.name+" has "+
          im[i].itemLink.filePath);
    And this iterates over Graphics which are the things inside containers (like rectangles). You might have the transparency applied to the container rectangle instead, in which case you'd probably need to replace allGraphics with allPageItems, except then it would fail on all the objects that don't have a transparency property [sigh...], so you'd need something (ick) like this:
    var d=app.activeDocument, im=d.allPageItems, i;
    for (i=0; i<im.length; i++) {
      try {
       if (im[i].transparencySettings.blendingSettings.opacity < 80) {
          alert("Page "+im[i].parentPage.name+" has "+
            im[i].itemLink.filePath);
      } catch (e) { }

    Check the drive health with the free demo of SMART Utility.

    Reformatting and zeroing out might keep a drive going a bit longer, but once bad blocks become noticeable, it's not a drive you should trust any longer.

    i want to reinstall os X yosemite on my macbook Air but i erased the hard drive and i cant get the local recovery option; only internet recovery; is there any way to go back and get local recovery option?

    Hi Bockworld1,
    I'm afraid you did an error when erasing your hard-drive, this has automatically erased the "local recovery". In order to pass-by this, you must use a former Mac OS X installation DVD (such as Snow Leopard 10.6.3) and then when updated to 10.6.8 you may access the Mac App Store to recover the Yosemite Installer and proceed to a fresh "update" OR creating a Bootable USB Installation drive with DiskMaker in order to alway get a installation copy.
    I also suggest you to create a USB Basic Operating System (you must select a local USB device to install Yosemite or whatever OS you want) with only the base operating system to launch your computer in case of Main Operating System issues.
    Given the amounts of issues reported by users with 10.10.2, I command you to download 10.10.2 version to get a stable OS working.
    Let me know how it is going.
    Good Luck.

  • I can't get rid of duplicate songs on my iphone or in the itunes.Help

    I cannot get rid of duplicate songs on my iphone or on the itunes player on my computer. I also cannot get my songs to play on my iphone in shuffle mode. It just plays the same song over and over again. Any lovely geeks out there?

    Welcome to the forums.
    If you have duplicate songs in iTunes you ought to be able to find them by using the "Find Duplicates" function and erase them by highlighting them all and pressing delete. Remember, though, that songs are not necessarily recognized as duplicates if they don't have the same tags (that is, a song can be duplicated but with a slightly different song title and iTunes cannot recognize it as a duplicate and it would be up to you to delete it manually).
    Once you've cleaned up iTunes it will automagically clean up your iPhone when you sync it. So work on getting iTunes in order first.
    People have complained about shuffle mode on the iPhone. One thing you can do is to create a smart playlist that selects the songs you want and does it randomly. You may have to create one or more of these depending on how you listen to music, but they will indeed give you "shuffled" songs.

  • Any way to search for casts in java source code?

    Anyone know of a decent way to search your java source files to find all the casts?
    I ended up doing a simple text search for
         " = ("(quote marks not included) which works for my code because I am strict about writing my casts with spaces like
         String s = (String) iterator.next();Unfortunately, the above search has all kinds of problems with both false positives and negatives. It picks up lots of irrelevant lines like
         int index = (number > 0) ? 0 : 1;as well as misses casts that appear nested inside expressions like
         ((String) iter.next()).charAt(...)I suppose that one could do a regular expression search for any pair of open and close parens which bound non-blank text, but that would pick up even more non-cast expressions in typical java code.
    I think that the only way to properly do this is to have a tool which understands java syntax.
    Anyone know of an IDE which will do this? Does IntelliJ or Netbeans support this kind of search?
    In case you are wondering why I am interested in this, it is because I am refactoring some code to fully use generics, and searching for casts is one source of identifying candidates for genericity.

  • How to search for (and get taken to) a specific SMS or iMessage?

    Hi all,
    I can't find a way to jump to a Specific part of a conversation position in the Messages app.
    My phone has a few long conversations stored (often requiring 100 or more taps of the "load more messages" button to scroll all the way through) rather than a lot of short ones. And searching a specific keyword (say, from an SMS or iMessage i remember receiving a couple of weeks ago) in Spotlight or the Messages app search box returns specific results, so the phone is capable of locating a specific position in the conversation but I can't find a way to jump to it, if the queried text is behind the first "load more messages" wall - in these cases when I tap the search result, I'm taken to the end of the conversation, rather than the part of the conversation I searched for.. It basically teases you, telling you "yes, I can locate the text you want, but no, I won't take you to it" ;)
    Am I missing something or are there external apps that can do it?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    In the Finder press COMMAND-F to open a Spotlight search window. From the Kind dropdown menu select Other. When the attributes list appears scroll down to File Extension and check the box on the right. Click on the OK button. You should now see File Extension in the dropdown menu of the search window. Use this to search for files with the given extension.
    You can also just do a simple search for an extension.

  • Is there a way to search for and delete duplicate photos in iPhoto.

    In the course of copying events and photos from one computer to another I've ended up with multiple copies of thousands of pictures. I've organized them both by name and by date and been deleting the duplicates manually, but there are just so many it would take a thousand years. thanks

  • How do I make a backup and get rid of duplicates?

    I have so many duplicate photo's- I want to get rid of it, but how? ANd how do I make a save backup first?

    To make a back up you simply back up your iPhoto Library, which is in your Pictures Folder. You can do this by copying it to an external disk, by using a back up utility such as DejaVu or Chronosync (there are many other possibilities, search on MacUpdate). You can also make a back up by burning to disk.
