Any Way To Video Record Screen?

There may be some free alternatives over at www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com as well.

  • Garage Band Crashed - any way to get recording back?

Hello. I just recorded a 50 min podcast and upon stopping recording, I got a Garage Band error box that said something to the effect of "2gb file size reached. File will be saved to this point." Then I clicked OK, but the program crashed.
    1. Is there any way to retrieve recorded audio files in ANY way? I also edit with Final Cut and I know that even if that crashes, the video is still in capture scratch/render folders, even if the project isn't saved, so I'm hoping there's something I can retrieve for this recording.
    2. Is there a way I can auto-save while recording? I've recorded 50+ 50-60 min podcasts now (only saving 10 episodes in a single project file) and never had this problem, so now I don't trust my Mac for future recordings after losing this.
Other project files I have saved are 4-5gb each, so I don't even understand this "2 gb" limit. FYI: I have 83 GB available on my Mac, so it's not a file-size issue.
Very frustrated and disappointed in my Mac. Any help is appreciated. Thanks much...

In short, right click your crashed project file, then select "Open Package Contents." Recorded audio is in .AIF files.
    YAY! Thanks.

  • Is there any way to get record of all my applecare calls

I was wondering if there was any way to get record of all my applecare calls/repairs...I am interested in pursuing a replacement of my macbook pro, this will be my 4th repair (2nd in a month) and I have been on the phone with apple about 20-30 times in the past month...any suggestions are appreciated

You can probably look them up yourself here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/repairstatus/
If that doesn't work, you can try calling Apple tech support and asking. They should be able to give you a list of case numbers, or calls/repairs on a given case number, for the serial number on your MBP. A Genius at an Apple Store could probably also look them up for you.

  • Any way to actually lock screen (not screen rotation lock)

Was wondering if there was any way to lock the screen so that if the screen was touched accidentally, the iPad would not respond? This would be helpful in situations where the iPad was passed from person to person while showing pics or to prevent inadvertent touches while watching a movie etc.

No. Only real solution is to NOT touch the screen when handing it off.

  • Is there any way i can record a video with 2 audio sources?

I want to be able to record a video with 2 audio sources (1 being a mic and the other being a guitar, both plugged in by usb's) while recording myself playing at the same time. I usually use an aucoustic but the sound is obviously much better when i plug straight in, is there any way i can do this without recording everything seperate? Im using a macbook pro.

Are you looking to do post recording adjustments to the separate tracks? That really determines now you do this.
If you not looking for multitrack recording (you just want to combine the two signal into one and record that) then probably the easiest thing to do would be to get an external mixer that would accept multiple inputs and output as  USB . Then you could set the levels with the mixer and just worry about recording the one signal.
You could try using the MIDI Audio Setup app to create an aggregate device (one that will accept multiple inputs).
There is also the 3rd party app Soundflower. It's an app that takes audio signals and allows you to route them between apps and to combine audio signals. It is dated but still works in 10.8

  • Is there any way to change the screen resolution in Front Row?

    Hi all,
I've got a Mac Mini plugged in to my TV, and I want to be able to change the screen resolution depending on the content I'm watching (as some content is in 4:3 aspect ratio, some is in 16:9, and I'd prefer to have the picture filling the screen completely). Unfortunately, the TV doesn't have a "stretch" mode for making an 4:3 picture fit a 16:9 aspect ratio. If I know what I want to watch in advance, I can set the resolution accordingly using system prefs on the mac, but if I'm just sitting back choosing what to watch with the Apple Remote, it's annoying to have to leave front row, walk over to the computer and change resolution once I've decided what to watch, open system prefs, change resolution, re-launch Front Row and find what I wanted to watch again.
So I was wondering if anyone had figured a way to allow the screen resolution to be switched from within the FrontRow UI. I've seen that people have written python based plug-ins such as PyeTV and Understudy that allow different types of content to be added to FrontRow, but I've not found any utility plug-ins such as what I'm looking for on the net (nor could I find SDK documentation on this API in the stuff that comes with XCode).
I guess the other approach might be quick keys: has anyone had any success hooking up quick keys macros alongside front row in response to apple remote events? (seems too few events to be able to choose from, but I've never tried it, so I won't assume!) Or how about is there a way to trigger an AppleScript from within Front Row? And, of course, I'm very open to any other ideas you might have!
Thanks very much in advance for any ideas on this.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), set a good rez there.

  • I have a new MacBook ProI have a new MacBook Pro. When I try to edit a Word document in any way I get a screen that says Word has encountered a problem and needs to close; that I may lose the info. I was working on and I can't recover my work. Help?

After decades, I finally gave up on Microsoft and bought a MacBook Pro. However, for work, I still have to use Microsoft. When I try to edit a Word Document in any way a screen pops up saying Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close; gives me an option to recover my work and restart Word; when I click that option Word restarts but I alway lose my work. This just started; before it was working fine. Help?

This is a Microsoft problem. Contact them for assistance: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295539

Are you certain about that? There are many alternatives to Office today. Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
NeoOffice ($10 but older version is free)
    OpenOffice (completely free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). All of these options allow you to open, edit, and save Word-formatted documents and spreadsheets. I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • Any way to fix broken screen latch?

well today i get to the basement to discover my wallstreet sitting on the desk with the plastic latch for the screen completely ripped off the case! i am dissapoined that no one told me that my lovely os 9 laptop had nearly been killed! is there any way to replace or repair the latch without having to buy new casing for the screen? the computer seems fine so far with no other apparent damage, but the plastic that linked the latch to the spring that held it on was cleanly snapped. >_<

    I use super-glue whenever possible.

  • When I watch any kind of video the screen turns green, what should I do?

When ever I watch a video of one I video taped or one on YouTube or a music video the screen turns green. How can I stop my iPhone from doing this?

Most YouTube content requires Flash. Apple does not support Flash for iOS devices.
Try using the pre installed YouTube app.

  • Any way to video chat between Messages and older Mac via iChat?

I upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday and am beginning to regret it - I discovered that I will no longer be able to help my parents troubleshoot their MacBook as they have an older MacBook with Leopard 10.5.8, and their MacBook is not upgradeable to Mountain Lion given its heritage (too old). Prior to my upgrade to Mountain Lion, when they needed help we would both launch iChat and I would ask to take control of their screen.  Their account setup on iChat was through an AOL AIM username.
I looked into whether I could still launch a video sharing session with them using Messages from my end and they using iChat from their end (still with their AOL AIM username) but can find no evidence that that will work.
I am hoping that someone has figured out how to make all this work.  I researched FaceTime and it doesn't appear that it supports video chatting/screen sharing.
My last ditch option will be to see if I can gain access to their machine via internet remote access - but I'd rather steer clear of that.
Anybody know how to make this work - video chat and remote screen control between my Mac running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and remote Mac running Leopard 10.5.8?

Apologies if this is what you linked to... I cannot open the link on my office PC.
Have you tried the ReelPortal app?  This should be able to cover both of your needs: it allows video chat between Playbook and PC, and essentially broadcasts the video chat to a site.  (I have not attempted to capture the broadcast).  It's not the prettiest app out there, but does what you're looking for.

  • Any way to capture a screen shot on iPad?

Anyone know if there's a way to capture a screen shot on iPad?

  • Is there any way of getting split screen function in firefox 4

Being able to split screen was a very helpful feature in the previous version of firefox, however, it is not available in version 4. Is there any other way of getting this tool?

Firefox has never had a built-in option to split the screen, such a feature is added by an extension. The only one that I know of that is compatible with Firefox 4 is Split Pannel - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/split-pannel

  • Any way to black out screen during remote VNC connection to Mac?

Hi, I regularly connect remotely to Macs in my workplace, via VNC viewer from PC, in order to do support/maintenance work after office hours.
Unfortunately, the security guys in our office building often switch the target Mac/s off while I'm working on them, especially if they can see 'mysterious things' happening on the screen - could be an intruder, or a ghost! =8O
I can't blsme them, nor can I easily ask them not to do it - the place is huge, in a blue chip co, with many different security staff coming and going round the clock. Anyway, if I did ask them, I suspect I'd get an overzealous lecture about machines being left on overnight, blah blah.
So, can anyone tell me if it's somehow possible to black out the target Mac's physical screen while I'm connected remotely to it?
Maybe there's a VNC viewer app that allows this, or some Terminal command I could use?
I usually set up a scheduled power-on for the target Mac, then Shutdown when I'm finished working on it, so it's not as though it's being left unattended at any point, otherwise I could understand the security concerns.
I have to connect from a PC, else I'd be looking at using ARD instead. I can ARD to the Mac client from the Mac server, but that means a remote connection from within a remote connection - not recommended!
It would save me loads of hassle (and danger) if anyone could answer this one please?
Another thing that would help is if I can completely disable the target Mac's mouse & keyboard too?
    Thanks for any help,
    Paul.

Thanks for your suggestions Bob. I've now sent a feedback request to Apple, for what it might be worth. I'm not sure my user handle will endear me to them!
An excerpt from my message to them...
"Aside from connecting remotely, I've often heard people say they'd like to turn off a Mac's screen and input whilst leaving it running, for example during large overnight disk copies.
I can easily switch off a PC's screen separately (albeit not remotely), but still not able to do that on Macs, after all these years.
I'm sure such a feature would be welcomed by many, especially for privacy/security and energy conservation reasons."
Great if anyone else could also request the same, or, come up with a cunning way to do it?

  • Any way to extend the screen timeout?

I've searched all users guides and settings on my phone and can't find a way to extend this - it gets to be annoying having to press the power button all of the time.  Any feedback is appreciated!  Thanks - sb

    From the home screen,
    Menu button,
    Settings,
    Display,
The fourth one down, screen time out. (Your options range from 30 seconds to 30 minutes.)

Tap on any give date in the monthly view and you will be taken a list of event, the default position being the date you tapped.
The icon just to the left of the search icon provides a master list view of events.
