Any word on Mag Safe saftey issues from apple?

Has there been an official statement or anything like that about the mag safe adapters? Cause it seems like the cases of melted/burned power adapters aren't going away. Just wondering what the "official" word on this issue is. And if there's anything special I should know about using my mag safe....ie. is it safe to leave it plugged into my computer for long periods of time?
Seth

"Not sure why or how it would happen other than abuse of the cable, not that I'm making an accusation or anything like that."
Ah, but you are making an accusation.
That aside, a simply manufacturing defect could easily cause this problem, much like a short in any cable or wire that runs a current. Frankly, I don't see how this could be ellusive or unbelievable.
I think the original posters concerns are an important one. A cable going is one thing, but your laptop being comprimised is certainly a noteworthy concern.

  • Microsoft Word and Excel Hang When Pasting From Apple Applications

I have had a problem ever since upgrading to Snow Leopard. Word and Excel hang when pasting from Apple applications like Safari and Pages. Pasting to OpenOffice does not show the problem. Pasting from Firefox does not show the problem. I have resolved font duplicates, got rid of input managers, reinstalled Office removing plist files and normal templates but the problem persists. Microsoft is saying it is not their software after looking at the crash dump created from force quit. Besides, sticking to open source software , I am at a loss for what to try next besides reinstalling Mac OS X 10.6 (I am on 10.6.2 now). Any help appreciated. I have crash dumps and snapshots of the hung process if anyone can read them. Word is using close to 100% of the CPU when hung.

Microsoft is saying it is not their software after looking at the crash dump created from force quit.
If their software is freezing up, it's certainly nobody else's fault. If those Apple apps are for some reason creating bad clipboard data, Microsoft's apps should be able to gracefully recover and report the problem. Error handling is probably one of the most important, and most difficult, aspects of programming, but you can't blame poor error handling on anyone but the developer. I suspect that, rather than bad clipboard data, it's more likely to be a case of Microsoft's apps simply not understanding something about perfectly valid clipboard data, because they haven't properly followed Apple developer guidelines.
Of course, that's not a solution. I can't really provide you a solution, other than to ask what version of Office you're using. If you're using too old a version of Word, you should update. You should also let us know what kinds of stuff you're copying. More info always helps to get better answers.

  • Any charge for free app and issues at Apple Store?

In case we need to create free issues or even apps for iPad (from a non-profit organization), what will the incurred costs be through the whole process?
i.e. From the time of development of issues and the app in which the issues may work - is there any registration or license fees involved, till it reaches all customers - provided the package is for free?
Any charge for free app and issues at Apple Store for iOS apps for iPad?

You must pay the USD$99 fee to join the Individual Developer Program.
After that, there is no fee to put free apps into the iOS App Store.

  • New MBP BUG!!!!!? mag safe and waking from sleep..............

I have found that if you are running on battery power, and then put the computer to sleep, that if you plug in the mag safe power whilst the computer is asleepit will refuse to wake up and require restarting. Not a massive issue but i would be interested to see if anyone else is experiencing this small bug?

It is possible that the difficulty you are experiencing waking from sleep is related to the "safe sleep" feature. I, too, had some difficulty waking my MBP from sleep (though I didn't specifically notice any link between these difficulties and the power adapter). Since I disabled safe sleep, I have had no more problems waking from sleep.
Information about the safe sleep feature (which backs up open files and settings before your computer goes to sleep in case of a loss of power during sleep) is here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302477
More information about safe sleep is found on at least two discussion posts:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1546493&#1546493
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1136215&#1136215
Finally, to hit the key point of these two threads linked above, you can turn off safe sleep by opening Terminal and typing:
    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
    I hope that helps!
    Take care.

  • Mag Safe LED Blinks From Green to Amber

I have a MBP bought in March 2007. I recently have been having a problem with the Mag Safe adapter. When the battery is about fully charged the LED on the Mag Safe connector starts to blink from green to amber. The blinking is rather constant, about 2 seconds a part. When I have the battery icon from the menu bar highlighted it shows "Calculating time..." and the LED is amber, and then quickly changes to "Battery is charged" and the LED turns green.
It seems that the computer doesn't know when to switch from battery to AC power when the battery is fully charged and connected to a power adapter.
I don't have an extra power adapter to try this on, as well as I don't have an extra battery. The Mag Safe connector at the MBP is perfectly fine, there is no fraying or anything like that. The wire does mostly stay wrapped around the power adapter hooks, so I am also thinking that it might be something wrong with the adapter itself, that the wires might be worn.
Thanks for any help that you can give me.

I have an issue somewhat similar to this - the battery indicator switches between claiming that it's charging and full, with the Magsafe adapter's light changing along with it. In my case it wasn't as regular as yours, but occurred while charging.
I tried calibrating the battery (instructions are here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh2339.html ) but it doesn't seem to have had an affect. Worse, the system had shut off when the battery got low (~12% power remaining) twice now, although there was one time between those two when it went down to 5% and I shut it down myself. I have 89 cycles on the year-old battery and iStat pro claims that its health is at 39%. To add to the mix, last night I watched a 26-minute movie which ate up 20% of the battery (this is about normal), and then I watched a second one that dropped the battery by a bit under 60%. I'm guessing that the battery has some dead cells. I have extended Applecare coverage, but have heard that it doesn't apply to batteries. Regardless, people have linked to pages showing that Apple will replace batteries if they're in a poor state and under 300 cycles. I'll head to an Apple store some time in the near future and see what the consensus is.
Long story short, my battery is probably failing, and the light changing behavior started around the time that I began to suspect that. It may be indicative of a dying battery on your end, as well.

  • Any word on fix to battery issue for Mountain Lion???

I have a Early 2008 MBP and my battery life has really suffered... I purchased a new battery about a month before installing Mountain Lion. Since installing Mountain Lion on July 26th I go from 100% to 90% in the matter of 10 minutes and very hot . This is not acceptable. I am trying to wait until Apple comes up with a fix but, I'm starting to get really frustrated. I realize my computer is over 4 years old but, it meets all the requirements to run the upgraded Mountain Lion but, if this problem is not solved soon I will revert back to Lion. I am wondering if anyone has heard any time table from Apple???
Thank you in advance for any and all info...

We are just users like you and have no idea about what updates Apple may release.  Also, I have Mountain Lion and have the same battery life as I did with Lion.

  • Mag-Safe Power Adapters and Apple Care

In the event that my Mag-Safe power adapter breaks, is it covered under my 1 year apple care?
I've heard quite a few people claim that they break easily.

If the 'break' is caused by user abuse, then, no, it wouldn't be covered under the standard warranty.
If Apple determines that the problem lies in the manufacturing of the adapter and not user abuse, then, yes, it would be covered under the standard warranty.
It's pretty easy to take care of the adapter - I've never had to have one replaced. Treat it with some 'dignity' and you won't need to replace it.

  • Any fix to the battery life issue from upgrading to IOS 6.0.2, as my battery life has gone from 2 days to 4 hours since 'upgrading'??

I purchased my Iphone 5 on the day of release, since then I have had a 2 day battery life on average, since upgrading to IOS 6.0.2, the battery struggles to last for 4 hours, is there any solution or fix??  If not any idea when this will be fixed??  Is there anyway to revert back to IOS 6.0.1?
    HELP!!!

It is unlikely that this problem has anything to do with iOS 6.0.2. It is possible that the update process itself has caused some settings on your iPhone to become corrupted.
Here are some steps to deal with this:
    1. Close all apps (use the app switcher; double tap home, press and hold an icon, click the "-" signs)
    2. Go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings. (Does NOT delete apps or any data; just resets network/iOS settings)
    3. Wait for iPhone to restart.
    4. Charge iPhone up to 100% and monitor.

  • 27" iMac - - safe to buy from Apple Store now ?

With all the issues going on where Apple then had delayed shipments 2 weeks presumably due to the issues, do you think we are good to go now ?
I notice there is still a 1 week lead time online.
    Thoughts ?
    TIA.
    flyer

I am a MCSE and have been in IT for 18 years dealing with MS products. I was forced into buying an iMac by my wife because "it would look better in our living room". (She buys cars the same way... it drives me nuts.) I haven't owned an apple product since the Apple IIc.
Then we got the the iMac two weeks ago and it had the screen flickering problem.
So, nobody wants to hate this thing more than I do and I just can't. The "magic mouse" is the greatest user interface achievement since the original mouse. The OS is easy to use and is intuitive even for a Windows geek like me. The engineering put into the overall design (screen problems aside) is far better than anything else on the market. And honestly, it does look good in the living room, but don't tell my wife.
When the screen flickering problem started I started the inevitable rant about how this never happened to me with other machines. Then my wife reminded me that the Dell we bought 2 years ago had a random high volume screeching noise coming from the sound card and that Dell never actually acknowledged the problem.
We called Apple support and got a super helpful tech support person. She began to describe how to download the firmware update and I quickly cut her off and told her that had already been done. She immediately gave me the choice of repair or replacement. I didn't need to argue or complain. It was just that simple. I chose repair because I feared I might get another machine from stock that had the same issue.
    So far, I'm quite impressed.

  • QT video resolution issues from Apple podcast server

My video is low res. 7.6.6 on OSX 10.5.8 has disabled the media settings. I have tried to change the settings for "instant on" but it keeps defaulting to the on position in the medium range. I tried to re-install 7.6.4 but while the player shows that it has been properly installed when i go to the QT pro registration it is still showing that it is 7.6.6. QUESTION How do I re-configure QT pro for my firefox browser so that I get the proper resolution (I don't want to upgrade to the newest OS yet.

"Instant On" setting is for "streaming" media:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/technologies/streaming/
It has nothing to do with the video resolution.

  • Mag Safe Adapter Compatibility

Sorry if this has been asked but I can't find a thread on it...
Can I use a mag safe power adapter from an older (2007) Intel Macbook Pro on a new unibody Macbook Pro? Are they compatible?

Yes - the 85 W adapter from the previous MBPs will work fine with the new MBPs. Note that the 13" uMBP and the low end 15" uMBP actually come with 60 W adapters, but the 85 W adapters will work with those as well (the MBP will just draw the power it needs).

  • How can i get an original iphone4 retina display from apple?

can anyone tell me ,hw to get iphone4 oem display from apple? i've no reseller or any apple guyz here!plz help

The material of the screen has nothing to do with water runoff. That comes from the oleophobic coating, not the glass. And again, any parts you find do not come from Apple; again, Apple does not sell parts to anyone. You may find parts from the same manufacturers Apple uses, but there's no way to guarantee that.
The issue is academic, though. I'll say this once again; the only way you can guarantee that you get only Apple-certified parts is to have the iPhone replaced by Apple. That is the only way. From any other source you''re taking your chances, and whether the source will accept a return and refund the money in case of a fake (this presuming you can tell it's a fake at all).
    'nuff said.
