Any word on Update 9?

With the recent dropping of OpenSolaris to allow focus on Solaris 11 & 10 has any heard when update 9 will be out? It must be getting close but since Larry took over there has been scant news on the next release. I see the latest patch cluster is now available and from memory know that the next release normally follows this.

A kind of offtopic, but regards Sol10u9 anyway.
The current license explicitly allows perpetual use "only for the purpose of developing, testing, prototyping and demonstrating your applications, and not for any other purpose", and explicitly forbids business use: "for your own internal business purposes (other than developing, testing, prototyping and demonstrating your applications) or for any commercial or production purposes" or "use the Programs to provide third-party training".
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/licenses/solaris-cluster-express-license-167852.html
I wonder:
1) Is hobbyist use allowed or forbidden (i.e. as a home desktop/server), including self-training?
2) Is educational use for a company's own staff (i.e. freshman IT staff recruits) considered third-party or not? Does such use require a purchased Solaris 10u9?
3) This license (about limited free use) says nothing about virtualized environments, machine-class tiering, etc. Are such limitations imposed in a commercial-use license?
4) If I consult some customers, suggest them to buy Solaris and help them install and maintain it - is this viewed like "distribution of the Programs" which would require some special sort of license, or is this strictly a "my customer" - "Oracle" relationship in terms of support contracts, etc?
5) if I were to move some of our customers' business tasks from OpenSolaris to Solaris 10u9 - how much would that cost to buy a minimal subscription to legally use Solaris 10 with access to current patches, without fancy 24x7 phone support, etc.?
6) Do I remember correctly that original (2009) Solaris 10u8 (or older) license did not forbid business use for free nor limit it by 90 days as the later Oracle license? Can ISOs downloaded last year under the terms of that license still be used freely?
Pointers to SunOracle pages with pricing are welcome :)
Thanks, Jim

I recently updated to the OSX 10.8.3 Operating Sistem.  I am writing a book and now cannot open any word document I've created with the old system.  Could not find a newer version of the Microsoft Word Processing Program.  Is Pages the next thing? Can I recover my documents?  How?

I'm in the same boat: new to OS X and Mac, and in the middle of a book. I switched because I heard about the the ease of using Mac, but so far, for me, it's been a nightmare. I bought 2011 Office Mac and hate everything about it, the most recent being the inability to open or cut or paste any of my original word files. I understand that this could have easily been done with earlier versions, but not Mountain Lion (which I learned is what OSX is.) Since I work with language, I am amazed at the assumptions of the Apple community. It helps to use common language and explain even the basics.
So all the helpful hints to use the latest version of Office Mac are to no avail. Now what?

  • Any Word on on Update?!

I have been so excited about upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion - but after reading all these forums and all the problems people are having, I've been scared to go for it!  I have an early 2009 MacPro (8-core) and from what I can tell it will be compatible (except for a few features that I don't care about anyway).
So it's been a few weeks now that ML has been out.  Any word on when an update will be released to address some of these issues people are having?  Trying to decide whether to wait for an update or go ahead and try and see what happens... (After a SuperDuper clone of course!)

Not many people come to a support forum to post how good everything is going.
Oh, there's some regular agent provocateurs who like to come on here and boast that 'everything's fine' after every new upgrade to wind up those suffering problems. I'd name them, but that'd probably be breaking the ToU (they'll probably show themselves in this thread before long anyway).

I updated from itunes 10.7 to itunes 11 and I installed it but when I opened up itunes only little icons would show, it woulndt display any words or letters.
so then i tried uninstalling and installing back the old itunes and it wouldnt open at all. i put back the new itunes n it opens but still wont show any words?

That's consistent with trouble with the Segoe UI fonts on your system.

  • Chinese Word list Update 1.5 not downloaded and installed automatically

On my Macbook Pro with Retina display 15 inches running OSX 10.8.3, an update called "Chinese Word list Update 1.5" show up on Update available list in Appfresh application. But when I click on install, Mac APp Store open to search for that update, but it end up with "No update available"
When I click Software Update from Apple menu, the same thing with No update available occurred.
On my system information, I have Chinese Wrd list Update 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1nd 1.4 installed. But I can't get this 1.5 Chinese Word list Update to automatically downloaded and installed as in the previous version
Where can I download chinesewordlistupdate.pkg version 1.5 for manual installation? I cannot find it anywhere on APple support website
This problem always occured when a new Chinese Word list Update is released. Why Apple won't make this update available for manual download or thru normal process of software update? Why Apple has to make this very suspicious update? I can't find answer anywhere on the Internet
Can any expert here point me to download this chinesewordlistupdate.pkg version 1.5 so that I can manually install it please

    Any advise
Perhaps it would help if you would do a few things to make sure the Apple update system knows that your machine needs to do Chinese.  This includes a) check the boxes to activate the simplified and traditional input sources in system preferences/language & text/input sources, b) download the additional 10 chinese fonts which Apple provides only when you try to enable them in Fontbook, and c) download the additional chinese voices which Apple provides only when you check their boxes in system preferences/speech/system voice/customize.
It might also help to temporarily switch the OS interface to Chinese and then check for software updates.

I have an older version of Firefox 3.6.6 I believe I am having an issue with one of the websites I sign into. Is there any way to update to the newest version. Without losing all my bookmarks and saved pass words?

Hello johngervais, the latest firefox version is 26.0 (today 4 Jan 2014).
note that [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-no-longer-works-some-versions-windows-xp Firefox no longer works with some versions of Windows XP], if you have '''xp with sp2 and above''' you can update to latest version, see : [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/26.0/system-requirements/ Firefox 26 System Requirements]
if you are able to update to latest version then see : [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/common-questions-after-upgrading-firefox-36 Common questions after upgrading from Firefox 3.6]
see also : [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-just-updated-why-it-asking-me-update-again Firefox just updated - why is it asking me to update again?]
Don't worry you won't losing bookmarks and passwords after update firefox.
    thank you

  • Linking Excel to Word - Word doc updates the numbers in a table but the format (font colours) do not update

I am using Office 2010. I have many graphs and linked tables to a master word document from Excel. The tables contain percentages and are formatted red if under -2.5%, yellow if between -2.5% and +2.5% and green if over +2.5%. The colours are correct
in Excel but when I refresh the word document, the numbers update but the font colours do not. The purpose of linking was to save time but if the colours do not update then the link is pointless. Is there any way to ensure the colours update as well as the
    values?

    Hi,
In regarding of the issue, I have a couple of questions:
Do you mind telling me how do you copy/link between Excel and Word?
Where did you store the Word and Excel file? Both of local disk or network drive, even website?
Did you using conditional formatting to display/format percentages?
Based on my tested, please try the following steps, it would be update all the information after the source was changed.
Select the table/chart in Excel> Open word >Copy>Paste>Choose Link & Keep Source Formatting.(See image 1)
If we changed the source data in Excel, then right click the table in Word> Choose update Link. (See image 2)
Then the data, format, font and color all will be updated.
    Hope this should help you.

Any suggestion and comment or advise please on this issue?
I'd recommend you take the advice given by Mende1 to you on this question last year:

  • My screen saver is word of the day and doesn't  appear any word!

When i had snow leopard this works but now i have lion all updates check it now and doesn t appear any word.

Apparently, it's broken. If you want to report this issue to Apple's engineering, send a bug report or an enhancement request via its Bug Reporter system. To do this, register as an Apple Developer—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report or enhancement request. You'll get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

If you have Office does Excell or Power Point open? If they do you can perhaps check for updates with either of them: Help > Check for Updates. You can also try to reinstall Office with your installation disks. Don't delete Office, just try to install it again.

  • Chinese Word list update 1.6 has been released by Apple but no update to my Mac. Help Please

Apple has released Chinese Word list update 1.6 on May 6, 2013. It is a 105 kb update file. I have Chinese word list updte from 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, and 1.5 installed on my Mac. So I think I need it.

I think you are mistaken about needing it.  Since you do not write in Chinese, it will not be of any more use to you than were the earlier Chinese word list updates you have posted about here in the past.  Nor can I imagine that anyone in these forums will be able to help you get it, any more than they could the last time.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4922426
But I wish you good luck!
Apple now has a special discussion forum for Chinese.  You might want to ask there:

  • Changing Sounds...Any Word?

Any word if the 2.0 Software Update will enable you to change sounds on your iPhone (incoming email, outgoing, etc.) Surely, they had plenty of people ask for that option. My problem is with the incoming email sound, I can't hear it in louder environments.

yes, I know, however only one of the sounds is not an annoying sound. The rest are horrible.
Why on earth would I want to be notified with a double glass tap or a chime or what the..... a horn or bell!?!?
Seriously, the only one worth while is the tri-tone and chime. the rest are worthless. imo =-)
I just hope that they realize that and add others or allow us somehow to get our own.

try updating linon to 10.7.2 plus there is a updated from electronic arts if you haven't done so already.  I have a macbook with a nvidia 9400 which had the same problem.  As soon as I downloaded the update from EA it solved the problem.  The update from EA was done back on September 1st 2011.
