Anybody else finding that the iPod classic cannot handle their iTunes database?

I have a very complex database that heavily uses the smart playlists. I have playlists referencing playlists, etc. and the last 2 operating systems can't handle it. I've got way too many hours behind my iTunes database and I'm unwilling to throw it out to use the iPod. It works great on my machine, allowing me to create well balanced and interesting playlists that are broad and diverse. My database used to work on the iPod. The problem arose with the instalation of a new iPod operating system back over a year ago. The installation killed my iPod and Apple refused to consider that the upgrade was responsible and called it coincidence. Since then an iPod will only work until I make some small mistake, like trying to use the Genius or plugging it into my computer and making some change in my iTunes database. Then it's back to disk mode, erase, reboot, reload and eventually replace.
Apple dismisses the idea that there is some software or hardware flaw causing the trouble. They claim that the iPod software will handle any iTunes database that is functional and fits on the iPod with a little extra room. They have replaced my iPod 4 times in the last 6+ months under the now impossible idea that I am receiving a series of flawed machines. These iPods sits in my glove compartment of my car and suffer no abuse. Since the last OS update, I can only load an iPod by importing my music in smaller chunks, a day long process at best. A full load of the database kills a new iPod immediately. My last time through tech support we came up with this technique as a way to isolate a potential bad song or album. Everything loaded fine in chunks and the iPod handled everything until a made a change to one of the songs and it went into eternal Apple mode and was replaced at the store. I am pretty convinced that Apple is wrong on this one and that the iPod software or hardware is not robust enough to handle what you can do in iTunes. Anyone else have a similar problem? Anyone at Apple care to look a little more carefully at the problem as a learning tool?

  • Anyone else finding that the keyword editor doesn't refresh properly upon changes

    When I have a clip with multiple keywords and I want to delete one of the keywords in the keyword editor, I find that the editor window refreshes incorrectly. The results are accurate but the editor appears to erase the wrong keyword.   Not the worst bug, but annoying.  It reminds we of the refresh problems in the browser when applying custom names 10.1.

    but any time I do a find for a certain keyword,
    Try the find menu (edit/find or cmd+F). In Source choose your main folder all your files are in. Criteria choose keyword and fill in one of the keywords you want.
    Be sure to have a checkmark in fornt of the options 'Include all subfolders' and 'include Non indexed files'.
    Hit find and let Bridge do it's searching. This first time may take a bit long but now Bridge starts indexing all files. After this you should be able to use the option for finding keywords as normal.

  • Device manager says that the iPod driver cannot be found

    Hey all,
    Recently my computer wasn't recognizing my ipod nano 6th generation. When I looked into the driver issue, I saw the following image. It looks like the Apple Mobile Device driver is working fine, but iPod driver under "other devices" is not working. When I click to manually update the driver, the computer tells me that windows cannot find a driver that supports the device. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello, egiles87.
    Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    If your device is not recognized by iTunes, I would recommend the steps in the article below.  Start with the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > If the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed > Step 5 > If only Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or Apple iPod appears.

    i just updated my iPod touch 4G to IOS 5.0.1. after that my ipod cannot synchronise with itunes. during connecting to itunes my ipod seem to be synchronised with itunes but the song or application that i just downloaded did not appear in my ipod.

    - First try a rset. Nothing will be lost.
    Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try restoring from backup

  • IPod Classic cannot transfer from iTunes

    My classic can no longer transfer tunes from iTunes.  It freezes and then eventually comes up with the message cannot transfer.  I have reset it several times, tried a different lead, even tried it on a different computer.  Eventually I  reset the iPod to factory settings but still get the same problem.  Anyone any ideas please?

    Hello willowfalls,
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Since you stated that the sync process is occurring, please ensure you have your sync settings configured to sync your music.

  • Is anyone else finding that the acceloromiter does not seem to work in some aps with iOS7

    Have recently (as most would have) upgraded to iOS7 on my iPad and iPhone, love it but I am find a few of my apps like eBay and remote do not rotate to landscape naymore. any one else with  this issue and is there a fix?

    As hunter9000 pointed out above, your code has syntax errors; are you even able to compile this?
    The braces "{" and "}" delimit classes, methods, and blocks ( including if/ while/ for etc ).
    Methods must be within classes i.e. after the opening brace and before the closing brace of a class.
    Similarly, statements and other blocks must be within the method.
    In your code, you have blocks simply floating about in your class, NOT allowed. They must be in a method. This is why proper indentation is important, anyone would be able to catch problem like this with just a quick glance.
    public void enter()
        {//opening brace for the enter method
            numberOfVisitors = numberOfVisitors + 1; //This takes the number of visitors adds it to itself and then adds 1
            totalFees = totalFees + fee; //This takes the fees of the day adds it to itself and then adds 12
    //    } //NO! You're closing the method too early. More content follows.
    //    { NO! You're making an unecessary block here
    //, reducing readability and potentially putting variables out of scope
            if(numberOfVisitors == 10)
            { //If the number of visitors = 10 then it should set isFull = True
              //opening brace for your if block
                isFull = true;
            }  //close the if block
    //        {//NO! again, unecessary block
            if (isFull)
            { //Once it is true the string should be shown to say that know more people can enter.
                System.out.println("The Exibition is currently full");
    //} extra brace from earlier
    }//close the methodClearer now?

  • Does anyone else find that the new firefox 4 sucks? How do I get back the old one?

    I upgraded to the new firefox 4 and I HATE it... I tried to uninstall it, and lost all my bookmark tabs, and then I tried to install the old firefox but couldn't, it only allows me to use the new one, which is also slowing down my laptop big time! Has this happened to anyone else?

    I've not had any problems with Firefox 4 being slower, but I've never been so disappointed with a program in years. I went back to 3.6.16 and it's much more stable. I'm an attorney and use the Bankruptcy Court websites daily--literally, hourly--and 4 crashes on them repeatedly, will not download mailing matrices, will not print claims registers, or literally do ANYTHING as well as 3.6 did. If a browser won't do that, then it's worthless to me. We HAVE to have stable programs, and everything now in the Federal courts nationwide has to be electronic filing. I've tried all the tricks I know (and I've been a computer user and builder ever since Win 3.1) and nothing saved it. I finally uninstalled 4, did NOT offload my user profiles, and they all picked up again on 3.6.16. I don't plan on going back to 4--ever.

  • Does anyone else believe that the ipod nano 7th gen could use a calculator app?

    is there anyway to get the calculator function on the 7th gen ipod nano?

    You could make a feature request, if you like. Here's a link to the nano product feedback form:

  • Does anybody else think that the new ios6 music layout is ugly?

    UGH! An ugly, cold, futuristic shade of grey. No more color. What are your opinions? Was ios6 worth the update?

    See the previous discussions listed on the right side of this page under the heading More Like This.

  • Anybody else notice that the camera seems a bit more stable?

    Maybe I am just being hopeful but I have snapped 2000+ pics with my iphone and now it seems to be a bit more stable on images....
    Any thoughts?

    Significantly more stable for me.

  • The ipod "name" cannot be updated, an unknown error has occurred (-48)

    a few nights ago while i was updating songs to my ipod video, this thing appeared on the screen in a quick flash and i wasnt able to read what it said. then my computer blinked and resetted, causing my ipod to unplug without ejecting properly. so i pulled out the plug from the butt of the ipod only to find out that when i opened it, all my songs were gone. a good 3000 i think. i think i also pressed menu and play at the same time after that.
    the ipod "name" cannot be updated, an unknown error has occurred (-48)
    this is what keeps appearing on my i-tunes everytime i try to transfer songs to my ipod vid. the weird thing is that when i drag and drop songs from i-tunes to the ipod icon, it says its updating. but when its all done, not a single song appears on my ipod. and it also said something like "cannot be restored" and "ipod service error" on the ipod updater. i've tried on both computer and laptop and am experiencing the same problem. as of now, my ipod is working but it's just all empty. could anyone help? im so frustrated coz this is the second ipod i've purchased since the last one that broke down. thanks.

    k i tried that but i couldnt find cupertino usa on my ipod. i did: date and time - set time zone - then a list of places come out with (DST) beside each of em. i chose bangkok (dst). tried to plug it again on i-tunes and the same darn thing appears. that dreaded -48 error. ill check out the rest of those links you guys posted anyway. thanks again for tryin to help.

  • What can the iPad do that the iPad Touch cannot?

    I've been thinking about buying an iPod Touch lately, but now I keep hearing about the iPad and it looks pretty neat. What exactly can it do that the iPod Touch cannot do?

    It's a much bigger touch surface and it has a much faster processor which will allow for significantly more robust applications.. Apple's iWork apps for the iPad are a great example of the types of things developers will bring to the iPad which would never work on the iPhone or iTouch..

  • Can I Jog with the iPod Classic

    So, i jog on a regular basis. I had the second generation iPod since its release. I recently upgraded to the 160 gb iPod Classic. I know that the iPod Classic is the only iPod with a moving HDD instead of flash memory. I have heard that it would ruin the iPod if i jogged with it, but all of my music and playlists are on it. So my question is, is it harmful the the iPod the jog with it for about two miles, not extended periods of time, just about 20 minutes. Also, does Apple basic insurance cover the HDD breaking?
    Thanks

    I take mine downhill skiiing; no problems so far.
    (And yes, I've eaten snow while the ipod was running.)
    Your milage may vary and all the standard disclaimers.
    That said, it is a standard hard drive in there, so I would think it is subject to "normal" shock rules.
    What I don't know is if there is something like an accelerometer (a feature in some laptops), which would lock the heads/park the drive if a sudden change was detected.

  • Has anybody else noticed that Find/Change searched according to -

    Has anybody else noticed that Find/Change searched according to date added?  It doesn't go page by page — it searches in the ORDER that text was added to a document.
    For instance, if you started with Pages 300-400, then added text to page 200, then added text to pages 100-200, THAT IS THE ORDER Find/Change will search.  Crazy, no?
    By the way, does anyone know how to FORCE Find/Change to always center a spread?  Currently, it moves the various pages all over the place during a search …

    We are using Exchange 2010 and IOS 6.0.1 and seeing this issue with exceptions associated to recurring meetings on both the iPad and iPhone.
    Oddly, you can make the first change (time of meeting, for example) to an exception in the series and have the change sync from Outlook 2010 to the iPad. If you attempt to make a second change to the same exception, the 2nd change does not sync to the IOS device.  Thoughts?

  • HT1386 I can't get my iPod Classic to sync with iTunes.  My iPod Classic is up to date, and i have downloaded the latest version of iTunes.  When trying to sync, it gives the message "The iPod "Brad D's iPod" cannot be synced because it cannot be found."

    Do I have to un-install and re-install iTunes or do I have to restore my iPod Classic (I don't want to lose everything in my music library)?

    Clicking sounds from an iPod that has a hard drive for storage is not a good thing.  It usually means the hard drive is faulty.  That is the likely reason for getting an error during the attempt to Restore.
    If you use a Mac, you can try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
    If it goes into Disk Mode, connect the iPod and instead of running iTunes, run Disk Utility.  Does the iPod appear in the Disk Utility sidebar?  If it does, select the iPod device in the sidebar, not the volume indented below the device (if there is one).  Go to the Erase tab.  Set the Format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).  Name does not matter.  Click on Security Options and choose to write a single pass of zeros over the entire disk.  This serves as a good "stress test" for the iPod's hard drive.  Back on the main window, click Erase.
    This takes longer than a regular erase, but you should see steady progress.  If it errors out, or stalls for a LONG time (like hours), the hard drive is likely to be faulty.
    If it completes successfully, quit Disk Utility, run iTunes and try to do another Restore
