Anybody have a recommendation on a third party disk utility, performance enhancing software?

What performance are you wanting to enhance on your MacBook Air?
OSX does its own routine maintenance, usually at night. You can run those scripts during the day using Onyx, Cocktail or similar utilities.
The best performance procedure is to keep your software updated, repair permissions using Disk Utility, and not fill your hard drive to capacity (keep about 15% free).

    Why do we have to activate individually all third party apps!!! There should be as easier way! Apple TV is not Apple anymore...

    Primarily because those third party apps are just that, they are not Apple apps, and each have their own requirements for activation.

  • Are third party disk utilities really necessary?

    Are third party disk utilities [such as TechTool Pro or Disk Warrior] really necessary on a G5? Does the Apple Disk Utility perform all necessary repair functions?

    need a DiskWarrior for sure - buil-in utility is not very powerful for real nasty file corruption.
    most important is to back up files regularly to another drive - if drive fails no utility will fix it.

  • Wireless third party client utility to support GTC authentication

    Hi,
    I would llike to know if any wireless third party client utility is available to support desktop users to get authenticated via GTC.This wireless accesspoints is cisco & aironet clients does not support widows OS vista & 7.The users using OS are WinXP, Vista & Win7. The GTC is used from RSA server & the RSA token can be viewed from handheld RSA device. On board wireless utility on above mentioned OS do not provide options for RSA token to be entered.
    Please help. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Shivani.

    Hi Nicolas,
    Thanks for writing. The basic idea would is to get RSA authentication for wireless users. They are not guest users infact they would be users from different branch location moving to HO & vice versa at any location they move users should get access to their defined resources with in the network. Is there a possibility for manupalation by introducing maybe for eg NAC or some other solution which can be integrated with in the network.
    I hope i make sense?!

    I have an MacBook Pro 10.6, using disk utility I tried to verify my disk, but it came up with the message, please use your start up disk, I tried this, starting the computer up and pressing C, but it ejected the disk, the same thing happened while I running the computer. Is the hard drive damaged as laptop doesn't seem to recognize the start up disk ? If so, I presume I will have to put in a new one.
    There haven't been any problems with the computer, apart from a sticky curser,I have run a permissions programme from disk utility, there were a lot of different ones, but it seem to be able to fix them.
    Any comments or ideas ?
    Thank you in anticipation.

    First backup your users files off the machine to a external storage drive (not TimeMachine!)
    Most commonly used backup methods
    Next to startup from the disk, have it inserted, hold c or option/alt (wired or built in keyboard) and then boot the computer and or select the disk when it appears and click the arrow.
    Disk Utility is under the Utilities menu on the second screen.
    Step by Step to fix your Mac
    If you used the wrong 10.6 disk, it will spit it out or have issues, use the one that came with that machine or if it's defective, call Apple for a new one.

  • I am having trouble enabling cookies. My bank requires my computer to be registered. I have privacy settings to receive third party cookies but I am still being asked to register my computer. The Bank tells me it is a problem with my internet provider.

    I need to log in to my bank on line and they tell me I need to register my computer. I have gone to Tools, Options, Privacy, I selected "accept cookies from sites" and "accept third party cookies. What else do I need to do. I have Mozilla Firefox 3.x (PC)

    Aha! I have sorted it.
    For those with similar problems, the solution is this:
    Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > MIDI Drivers
    Then delete DigiDioMidiDriver.plugin

Yes you have to distribute thos jar, i use to put them into the "lib" folder of my project folder. I think this is the way that most of the IDE's do that but i'm not sure.

  • Would you recommend OSX Cocktail for a disk utility?

    I think I need more than my built-in Mac disk utility to keep my machine clean and running well. Is there only the one "OSX Cocktail" version 4.7.2 and does anyone here use it and think that it's useful?

    I have Onyx, but don't use it, not liking any app that does things without allowing you to control its actions. For disk directory issues, I recommend DiskWarrior, and for better disk repairing than Disk Utility, I use TechTool Pro 5 (Apple provides TechTool Deluxe as part of its AppleCare package). • When I delete files on a USB, it doesn't free up memory on the stik. I find I have to empty the entire stik, use Disk Utility to 'erase' it, then transfer back the files I removed to free up all the space on the stik. Is this the best practice?

    It frustrates me that if I delete a file from a USB, it doesn't free up the memory on the stik. I have been removing all the files from the stik, opening Disk Utility and erasing the empty USB. That frees up the entire stik. Then I have been transferring back the files I removed from the stik. The result is that I have memory available to use again. It seems to me this is an unnecessarily complicated and time consuming way to get the result. Is there a shorter way to do this?

    Hello Horst,
    Thank you for the question.  Have you been emptying your trash after deleting the items?  For the item to be removed from your USB device, you will need to empty the trash on your MacBook Pro after you delete the items, as described in the featured discussion below.  Your USB device will still need to be connected when you do this:
    Choose Empty Trash from the Finder menu. Unlike Windows, the trash needs to be emptied manually for any drive other than one mounted through the network.
    Can't delete off my USB drive

  • I am having problems with websites requiring cookies. In PRIVACY I have checked ACCEPT COOKIES, and THIRD PARTY COOKIES. However, I am still having problems. I used your "Enabling and disabling cookies" but it still does not work. Thanks.

    For example, I went to Netflix site(which I am registered at) and I immediately get a screen which asks me to enable cookies and gives me different links for instructions on how to enable cookies for different operating systems.

    Always good to start with a fresh reboot with Windows XP if an issue just happens.
    Check your security software settings, you may be blocking at that level, firewall and FF add-ons.
    1) FF settings: Tools, Options, Privacy Tab, change keep until: to, Ask me every time, click OK at bottom of box. Then try to go to NetFlix, if you are not asked about cookies, they are not getting to FF, go back to your other security software settings and FF add-ons.

    2) Next FF settings: Tools, Options, Privacy Tab, Exception Button, add Netflix web address and click Allow Button, ALSO check for any BLOCK settings. Click close button, ok button and Test the results.

  • Is there a place for recommendations of third-party apps?

    There used to be a place on here to talk about anything at all, but I don't see that now, so I don't know where to ask this question.
    It would be nice to have a place to exchange recommendations of 3rd-party software that provides applications not addressed in Apple products.
    For example, the old will-maker program I used with OS 9 does not work on OS X. Quicken makes a great one, but it only runs on Windows, and I don't want to get involved with running Windows on my Mac just for that.
    If there is a place on here or anywhere else on the web where Mac users exchange recommendations of third-party apps, I would appreciate any details.
    And, of course, if anyone has a specific recommendation for a will-maker program, that would be great too.
    Many thanks.

    a brody:
    I'm sorry but I find your response just a tad parental.
    You suggest navigating "the entire board" before asking "for too much," even as you go on to recognize how huge and unwieldy it is. I think most of us give it a good shot, exhausting a reasonable amount of search results, before posing a question. And it seems to me that your "given there are resources" could apply to anything at all that one might ask on here. All the answers came from somewhere; a person could go those "resources" instead! The point of these forums, I think, is to help and assist, in a reasonable manner according to reasonable guidelines.
    What is the point of making suggestions, if the attitude is "don't you think the moderators have enough work on there (sic) hands"?
    When you say "using the forums give plenty of chance to find the right application," well, I just wonder where you would suggest one ask something like "Can anyone recommend a good third-party slideshow application?" I have a hunch that no matter what forum a person plugged that into, someone such as yourself might chastise him for posting off subject!
    That is why my point was to ask what happened to the section that used to entertain miscellaneous questions on almost any topic. And it is why I wished aloud for a section where types of (third party) applications could be posted. That would NOT mean, as you seem to suggest, that suddenly a topic for every conceivable kind of application would be created.
    And finally, if you think all the information I hope for is already in the forums, or could be asked about and supplied in the existing forums, then I wonder how you think moderators would be additionally overburdened merely because the same stuff was simply more organized and easier to find.
    Forgive me if I sound overly defensive, but it seemed to me your response was a bit of a putdown and not very constructive.

  • Issue with Third Party Adapter for custom JCA Connector in Oracle 11g.

    Hi,
    For a proof of concept, I have created my own JCA Connector. I have deployed this connector in Weblogic and it works as expected.
    Now I am trying to call the JCA Connecter from the SOA Bus. For this I have create a SCA Composite with a simple Web Service to expose the composite, a Third Party Adaptor to wrap the JCA Connector and a Mediator to wire the Web Service and the Third Party Adapter together. For the Third Party Adapter I have created both the needed *.wsdl and _3P.jca file my self. The problem is that I could not find any documentation about the _3P.jca file, and it looks like it that this file is new for 11g.
    After some puzzling and debugging I am able to deploy the SCA Composite with the Third Party Adapter. Though when I test the exposed Web Service with the Enterprise Manager I get errors and a stack trace. The problem is that the Record Converter I have created receives the default XMLRecord implementation (oracle.tip.adapter.fw.record.XMLRecordImpl) and not the implementation of the XMLRecord I have created my self.
    So the question is does anybody know how to configure the Third Party Adapter so that it will use my custom implemenation of the XMLRecord interface (oracle.tip.adapter.api.record.XMLRecord) instead of the default implementation of the XMLRecord (oracle.tip.adapter.fw.record.XMLRecordImpl).
    I would suspect that it should be configured in the _3P.jca file, though I don't know how. The following is the content of the current _3P.jca file I am using.
    <adapter-config name="DiskAdapter" adapter="Disk Adapter" wsdlLocation="JCADiskConnector.wsdl"
                    xmlns="http://platform.integration.oracle/blocks/adapter/fw/metadata">
      <record-converter className="com.osc.jcaadapter.convert.DiskRecordConverter"/>
      <connection-factory location="jndi/diskcf" adapterRef=""/>
      <endpoint-interaction operation="Send" portType="Send_ptt">
        <use-record-converter addonNamespace="http://somecomp.com/DiskAdapter"/>
        <interaction-spec className="com.osc.jcaadapter.impl.DiskInteractionSpecImpl">
          <property name="FunctionName" value="do-it"/>
        </interaction-spec>
      </endpoint-interaction>
    </adapter-config>So I am hoping that some one knows how you should configure the Third Party Adapter so it uses my own implementation of the XMLRecord interface.

    Hi Simeon,
    That is a good suggestion, and I would certainly try to do that if I was not making a proof of concept. It would solve my problem of not getting the sub class of the XMLRecord.
    Though for making my proof of concept I found a 10g example that used sub classes of the XMLRecord, and that is why I wanted to get the same example to work on 11g.
    The alternative of passing a parameter through with InteractionSpecs, is an interesting though can not solve this problem. I don't have a problem with the javax.resource.cci.Record, I can determine the implementation of that in the conversion class it self.
    The problem is the XMLRecord generated by the Oracle SOA Adapter Framework, some how I need a way to influence that to generate the correct implementation of the XMLRecord.
    So your post is certainly helpfull if I was not trying to get this specific problem to work :).
    But I am afraid that I will end up in implementing your sugestion.
    Regards
    Maikel.

  • The best third party recovery software for  OS X?

    Can someone please recommend the best third party recovery software for  OS X. Accidentally emtied my trash when I shouldn't have.
    Thank you for your help.

    General File Recovery
    If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
    The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
