Anybody run vista's aero glass theme on their mini?

i'm thinking about getting a mini, but i want to be able to run vista's aero glass. i believe the video card is supported, but i wanted to hear about any personal experiences.

I'm running Vista Premium (on a separate partition w/bootcamp) on my Mac Mini 1.83 with 2 GB of memory with no problem at all. Aero glass, no problem.
Vista actually sees the GMA950 integrated graphics card as 256MB of DDR2 SDRAM, instead of 64.

  • "Aero" glass theme

I really love the "Aero" glass theme that is in Windows Vista and Windows 7. I was wondering if it's possible to suggest this to a Mac OS developer or Apple? I know this is a copyright issue with Microsoft owning this trademark. But, please make this theme available in Mac OS. I love both operating systems equally, but Apple softwares, such as "Messages/iMessage", Final Cut Pro, Garageband, iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto, Logic Pro, etc. make me want to switch from Windows to Mac OS. It's too bad the "Aero" is proprietary to Microsoft.
Here is the link to the "Aero" glass theme I'm talking about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Aero
Please make this feature for future releases of Mac OS. Otherwise, I'm sticking to Mountain Lion. Please write back. Thanks!

  • CS5.02 w/MPE turns off Aero Glass

I have a new Dell Precision T5500 workstation(X5560 CPU, 12GB Ram, PNY Quadro 4000, Win7 Ultimate 64-bit) running CS5 MC.  AE looks and works great. PPro CS5.02 loads and looks correct but, once a project has loaded with the Mercury Playback Engine(MPE) enabled, all Aero Glass effects for Window Color and Appearance get switched off.  Resulting in what looks like the default Windows 7 Basic properties and color scheme(Baby Blue with no transparency).
PPro captures, edits and outputs fine.  And once PPro is exited, the Win7 desktop, visually, returns to my "normal" saved Theme.  While PPro is running, the Win7 Personalization page shows that my saved Theme is loaded.  Clicking it's icon to reload the settings doesn't cause any visual changes.  Selecting the Window Color icon brings up the Window Color and Appearance tool which has a message stating that Windows Aero is off, etc.
If I remove the Quadro 4000 entry from the cuda_supported_cards.txt file, essentially disabling the hardware MPE, Aero Glass stays on while PPro runs.  Except now I have to render effects since Premiere is using the software MPE.
The NVidia driver is from 10/16/2010( 8.17.12.5993 ).  Everything else on this machine(HW/SW) is up to date and is working great.  I haven't been able to find any mention of this anomaly here or on other CS5 or NVidia related forums.  Has anyone seen/heard of this?  Is there somebody else using the Quadro 4000 with CS5?

Thanks, I checked out the search results of the link posted.
I grabbed and ran Microsoft's Mats_Run.aero.exe tool.  Funny thing, even with Premiere running that tool still says there are no issues with my system.  Plus I don't get a systray message saying something to the effect of "aero is turned off" like other folks report in the MS Answers forums when things like this happen.  Anyway, like I said previously, I can live with this "feature" while I'm using PPro and so far with my hardware, my AE usage hasn't been effected.
    Thanks All,

  • My Dell Vostro (running XP SP3) neither recognizes my iPad 2 nor my iPhone 4 correctly! I followed the troubleshooting guides and installed the latest iTunes. Both devices are recognised by my desktop PC running Vista using the exact same cable etc.

    Hello all,
my Laptop (Dell Vostro - running XP SP3) neither recognizes my iPad 2 nor my iPhone 4!
Both devices are working correctly with my desktop PC running Vista with the same USB cable!
I followed trouble shooting guides, checked that the drivers are present, installed, removed and reinstalled the latest iTunes (in the correct order together with the other Apple software components) etc. but nothing works! The interesting thing is that when I plug the iPad or the iPhone in the laptop's usb-port for a second Windows correctly shows the devices either as iPad or iPhone in the "Device Manager" with an exclamation point !!!    But then after a split second Windows allways switches the devices to Digital Camera and the correct iPad or iPhone disappears !!!     =>    That is why I guess that this is a driver problem!
Does anybody have any idea what else I can try?
Is there a manual way to install the drivers for the iPad 2 or iPhone 4?
Many thanks for your ideas and suggestions
    Edgar

Yes I know that (I always google first and ask later ). Too bad I find this out when it was too late. I was already on 4.3.

    >> Do you see the DVD drive listed in the device manager??
(Click Start and type "device" in the search field, then select Device Manager >> check for CD/DVD drive listing.)

  • ITunes not working properly with HP running Vista home premier

My Ipod touch works fine on my windows XP pro system but does not sync photos and podcasts from my other computer at home: new HP Multimedia system running Vista Home Premier. It goes through all the motions but will only add a few photos from a file and they are partially corrupt. Many times it won't add any selected photos. Same with podcasts, they won't sync to the ipod. Have tried various USB ports.

well, it is easy. i just wish it to sync in a manner that i do not get frustrated with it. it just does not like to sync when i open up itunes on desktop to update apps when they have updates. i have got to revert to plugging in the phone and ipad for it to sync and update apps. if you read through the whole thing you would have found it out. all i am saying is that itunes 10.6.1 and ios 5.1 have bugs and issues that make it hard for a iphone and ipad user to sync and update apps. itunes is slow to open with windows 7 as well as i did not mention that before but i have mentioned it in my other forum posts.
    summary:
itunes 10.6.1, is slow to open on windows 7,
syncing ipad and iphone does not update without plugging them in.
wifi sync is not working properly or as it should, it doesn't recognize phone and ipad unless plugged in.

  • Computers running Vista won't open PDF files with Adobe Reader

I have tried downloading the latest version and nothing helps.  The error message says it was incorrectly encrypted or something along those lines.  I have forwarded the file to my home computer and ith opens fine, but not on the boss's computer or his wife's.  They are both running Vista, as is my home computer.  The other computers in the office are older and are running XP.  I hav eno problems with any of them opening PDF files.

Yep you need Adobe Reader for Intel. Actually you don't even need that. You could use Preview to view .pdf's but I always use Reader. Don't really know why

  • Anybody running LP projects on an External HD?

anybody running LP projects on an External HD?
If you do, have you met any problem? like Jam?~

I understand that firewire 800 is preferable to 400. Faster anyway. I don't have 800 capability on my computer but I do know that an external firewire drive uses less of the computer's processing power which is why you get a performance boost. It's not massive but on my computer the cpu levels were down 10 to 15 percent. The ideal situation is 2 external drives; one for projects and the other for samples and loops. I can't speak to esata drives because I have no experience with them. Regarding rpm, most external drives run at 7200 unless they're very small portable ones. That being something of a constant the real issues are quality of the drive and its transfer rate.

  • Finally Got Aero Glass Back in Win 8.1

Now released for Windows 8.1 by a good guy who knows what many people want on their Win 8.1 desktop.  Thank God for 3rd party developers who understand what people want and need, rather than the greedy managers at Microsoft who push their
own agendas at the customer's expense.
The two things I like most about Aero Glass are that it makes it much easier to focus on the client area (where all the work is done), and the drop shadows help better differentiate multiple windows on the desktop.
After having helped test the betas, I've been testing the release intensively for a week now, with zero glitches.
It's donationware, and can be downloaded here:
    http://www.glass8.eu/
There's an active discussion on this product here:

Configure The Windows 8 "To Work" Options

It's not "adware", but it's essentially "nagware" in that it will remind you via an occasional pop-up message and a desktop watermark that you may donate to the author to support the project's ongoing development.  It may also pop up a debug logging
window, but I think that may be able to be disabled through a registry setting.
From what I've read in the forums, some find these "nag" reminders problematic, though when I first tried the software out early in its development cycle I found them easy to ignore.  I was concentrating on whether it really
    works - and it does.
By the way, you can easily test it out in a throwaway environment - for example a Virtual Machine, such as provided by VMware.  I did.
Once you donate five or ten Euros you can get and save a "donation key" that's apparently tied to your disk drive serial number.  After doing that all the reminders are stopped - it is silent and just works beautifully.
I find Aero Glass for Win 8.1 version 1.2.5 to be 100% stable.   My system ran 27 days straight under hard use between the last two Windows Update cycles without a problem of any kind.  The author seems keen on making it totally
    bug-free.
By the way, it is still being developed.  The author has currently got a beta test version of a GUI configuration tool out for testing and comments.

  • Windows7 upgrade on hp laptops running vista home basic

    hi..
    i bought hp dv4-1240TX in july'09.
but i am shocked and cannot find out whether HP will provide me free upgrade to windows7 or not as microsoft promises me an upgrade
    ref:: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd772579(WS.10).aspx
and HP have declared in its site that it will not upgrade any home basic machines.
i think it's wrong and feel CHEATED...
    pls help me with this...........

No manufacturer has announced a free upgrade program for systems running Vista Basic.  All the offers are for Home Premium/Business/Ultimate.  HP and other manufacturers aren't obligated to even offer these free upgrades.  We expect them and welcome them, but there is no obligation.
I'm a systems technician for a large company and have been playing with the Windows 7 RC for some time.  Our enterprise agreements allowed us access to the MSDN betas also.  We've been avoiding Vista in our company but look forward to Windows 7.  Sadly there is no direct upgrade path from XP to 7, it does a parallel install, moving the previous OS and files into a Windows.OLD folder on the drive.  All the drivers and applications have to be reinstalled after this.  For any machine running any version of Vista it is possible to fire the DVD in the drive and have it upgrade to Windows 7.
TLDR:  Yes, Microsoft Windows 7 supports a direct upgrade from any existing Vista version to Windows 7.  HP's (and Toshiba, Sony, Lenovo...) free upgrade program does not extend to systems that ship with Home Basic.

  • ICloud for laptop running Vista ?

Havent really done updates for a while or backed up my phone for quite some time (if ever), i thought i'd do the new update everyone is talking about & turn on the automatic upload of photos to iCloud to back them up.
I did the update to the phone, turned on iCloud on the phone, downloaded the iCloud software for my laptop for it to inform me that it is not compatible.
I'm running Windows Vista with Microsoft 2003 stuff & apparently can not have iCloud on my laptop.
Now, i'm not very technical at all, so please dont ask complicated questions .... but is there a way i can get this on the laptop so i'm able to manage the photos cause at the moment, i really, REALLY hate iTunes to manage stuff on the phone.
Having been an iPhone fan for a few years i've now got to the point where i'm fed up with the limitations & difficulty in putting stuff to/from the phone.
My old Nokia N95 was so much easier .... drag & drop.  None of this Syncing but not able to move stuff about to the places where you want.

Having just got home & checked my laptop, i'm running Vista Service pack 2.
I've just tried to download the iClous 3.0 AGAIN & got the same, error message, can not run on this system.
    PLEASE can someone help ?

  • Windows without Aero Glass?!!

Windows without Aero Glass? its disgusting!
You know, windows 7 was successful, this means AeroGlass+Performance accepted that time, so you can’t remove aero glass by telling everyone it’s because lack of performance!
I remember MS-Dos text mode applications like ‘Norton Commander’, ‘Norton Utilities’, ‘Dos Navigator’ and much more, presenting solid graphics (simple solid color as background, and white text in the front, using (some times) some characters as icons and
smooth animations for dialogs. – I remember ansi.sys as well!)
Windows 8 and 8.1 has the same graphics, same as DOS! except the solid background, which replaced by a gradient.
This is not satisfying, not at all specially when we have a complete set of eye-catching effects like ‘Shine’, ‘Shadow’, ‘Bevel’, etc. in windows 7.
Even in windows 95, 98 and XP, I used to change skins and themes with skinning softwares (like Windowblinds).
You can’t expect everybody to like windows 10 UI no matter its on Tablet, Desktop or some gadget…

  • RAID 0 with WD Velociraptor's to run Vista

I just purchased the new WD velociraptor drive to put in my Mac Pro 8 core system. I was toying with the idea of buying two drives and then RAIDing them together. Just wanted to see if anyone had any experiences with this and how easy/beneficial it was to use Mac's software RAID. I didn't want to have to get a hardward RAID card. Also, wanted to install Vista 64 on this new RAID. If this is going to be too much of a problem, I will just stick with the one and install Vista on that. From my brief research, seems to be an increase in performance with the RAID 0, but still a single Velociraptor drive seems to perform amazing.
    Thanks in advance,
    Toby

So I guess I made the right choice just buying one drive. Figured it would be too complicated to run Vista on a RAID on a Mac computer. I should still see plenty of boot drive performance increase coming from a standard drive.
    Thanks Kappy

  • Anybody running an X300 with x64 Windows installed?

    Hi everyone,
We're ordering new laptops at my company and were so pleased with our recent T61P purchases that we are considering X300's for more portable devices.  However, I was surprised to see that Vista x64 is not one of the installed OS options for the X300 (unlike the X61s where it is available).
Is anyone running Vista x64 or (better still) Server 2008 x64 on their X300?   I see that on the X300 driver download page there are some Vista 64 drivers available... are they enough?  Any gotcha's?
    Thanks in advance!

    jtimouri wrote:
I am interested though other experiences with installing Vista 64, or some explanation of what it is about Server 64 that makes it better.
vista 64-bit installs just like vista 32-bit.   lenovo has all of the drivers available online or you can use TVSU to install them automatically.   vista works much better when installed clean so if you can get a hold of the "anytime upgrade" media from microsoft then you can follow this installation guide to cleanly install vista 64 using your vista 32 key and activation.
vista 64-bit is better because it supports more memory, is more stable, and is anecdotally 10~15% faster than 32-bit.   however, since vista 64 has to emulate a 32-bit environment using an emulation layer called "WoW" (windows-on-windows), 32-bit apps can in some cases run faster under vista 32 than they do under vista 64.   eventually all apps will be 64-bit native so what you're currently seeing is a transition period much like we had when windows went from 16-bit to 32-bit in the transition from 3.11 to 95.
server 2008 isn't better than vista for the average user.   for starters, it costs anywhere from $700 to $3000 for a licensed copy.   the version i'm using on my X300 is at the upper end of that price range.   next, unless you're familiar with administering a windows server environment, it's going to be a battle getting things set up, knowing how/why some things aren't working, and keeping it both secure and running smoothly.   many features need to be manually installed including wireless networking, desktop features, etc.   to put it mildly, it's meant to run a server and isn't be as friendly as a workstation OS like XP or vista.   i use it because i've used and administered windows server OSes since NT4 server was released in the mid-90s and am used to using them on my thinkpads.
however, server 2008 is better in terms of reliability, stability, speed, and scalability.   for the most part it can be made to look and act like vista.   there are even a few websites dedicated to setting up 2008 to be used as a workstation OS such as win2008workstation.com.   if you can get a copy of 2008 either through an MSDN subscription, your school/university, or even the free trial from microsoft then it's worth a shot.   i'd still recommend vista for most people though.
i hope that helps a bit.   i could go into excruciating detail on this subject but will save my dissertation for another time.
