Anybody running ATI Radeon 5770HD with an Original MacPro?

Id be interest to how much success users are having running an Original MacPro 2006 (1,1) with the 5770HD graphics card... Im using one with mine, but occasionally get Kernel Crashes... however Im running FCPX & Motion 5 plus DVDSP4, Cinema Tools (and FCS3 made me install Qmaster even though I have it built in, in Compressor 4). Nothing else on my machine.

Panics can be due to a number of issues. Drivers, hardware, heat even. Crashes are entirely different from a kernel panic.
I'd be concerned with system maintenance and repair, and how well you cloned your system. Any crash or freeze can cause directory corruption requiring action and not just a Safe boot or restart to resolve.

  • Running ATI Radeon x1900 XT along with NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Possible?

Can I run the ATI Radeon x1900 XT along with NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT together in my mac pro?

The X1900 would have to go in double wide slot, you would have to run one or both at 8x.
I think something like ATI 2600 might make more sense. The 8800GT is listed as discontinued (have a thread or two about it being EOL). So unless you have the 8800GT may not be an option anyway.
The 4870 + 2600 combo would be best I can think of for us with 1st gen now.
This assumes you simply need to drive 3 monitors. And don't want to wait and see if the Nvidia eVGA GTX 285 (doubtful) will support 1st gen EFI32's.

  • ATI Radeon 9000 with a K7T Turbo2

    I have a K7T Turbo2 running AMD XP 2100+.
I had a Asus GeForce4 MX 440 with 8xAGP 64MB. Then swapped it out for a MS ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB.  I installed it, after the installation, it rebooted, then after the Windows XP Home Edition screen, it blacks out.  ;(  Can anybody tell me why?  I tried even the ATI driver too, and same thing.  My board handles the max of 4xAGP. Could that be it?  Either driver I use, I get the same result.  Can someone help me? ) Thanks.

can you access XP in safe mode? It could be the refresh rate set itself too high.  Try going into the display control panel and setting it back to the minimum settings at 60hz, reboot, and it should be fine if that is the problem.

  • T500 ATI Radeon issue with Alibre Designer 11.2

Note - I uploaded a video showing the symptom to Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTg3piX-H8I
I have a Thinkpad T500 the switchable graphics ATI Radeon 3450 for accelerated 3D/OpenGL support. I got this to be able to run CAD software. Unfortunately, there is a bug and Alibre Designer will not render reference lines when used with the ATI Radeon driver. This is not good, as reference lines are very much needed while drawing designs.  The problem goes away if I switch to the slower Intel Media graphics driver.
I have installed the very latest ATI drivers and Catalyst Control Center, per Lenovo (http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/7vd541ww.txt) -- the CCC currently shows:
    Item Value
    Driver Packaging Version 8.563.2.1-090401a-079160c-Lenovo
    Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
    2D Driver Version 7.01.01.849
    2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MPCH INE/SYSTEM/ControlSe
    Direct3D Version 7.14.10.0630
    OpenGL Version 6.14.10.8306
    Catalyst® Control Center Version 2009.0401.1328.22301

Well, with Alibre's help, we tried turning off the switchable graphics per:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70495#g5
After the first reboot, the hardware was recognized, but the ATI driver was not properly loaded; but after the second reboots, the ATI driver was installed correctly.  Then, Alibre worked correctly.
It appears that the switchable graphics driver support is interfering with the proper operation of the underlying ATI driver.  I'm sad to lose switchable graphics support, but at least I can work!

  • ATI Radeon Card with 2 DVI LCD Display

At last, I made a big step forward by purchasing the new MP. I already have a 23" Apple Display and intend to buy another DVI display (non Apple). How do I connect both LCD screen to the ATI Radeon card? Do I need to purchase any adaptor?

    Hi SamsonSimon;
    Here are the specs on the ATI Radeon card;
ATI Radeon HD 4870 includes two video ports: one Mini DisplayPort and one dual-link DVI port. This allows you to connect both the 24-inch Apple LED Cinema Display or another Mini DisplayPort-based display, and a DVI-based display such as the 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display. Display adapters are available to connect VGA displays.
Since it says it has two ports, one Mini DisplayPort and one dual-link DVI port, it would seem you are going to need an adapter for the second LCD screen.

  • ATI Radeon X1900 XT driver for MacPro

I put an ATI Radeon X1900 XT for MacPro in my 2 x 3 GHz MacPro. It displays only 1280 x 800 on my 30" Cinema. Do I need to install a driver, and if so, where to get the driver since card did not come with CD and AMD site has not posted a driver?
    2 x 3 GHz MacPro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    zspike --
You don't need drivers -- they're built in to the OS. However, it would be nice to use the ATi displays panel, so you can turn on various app-specific speed settings and features like full-screen antialiasing.
Now, version 4.5.9 of ATi Displays is a Universal Binary, but ATi in their infinite wisdom have made it so that it WILL NOT install on a Mac Pro, only a G5.
But there's a way around this:
    http://forum.macbidouille.com/index.php?showtopic=199963
Have a look at post No. 8. Simply put the displays.app in your /Applications/Utilities folder, and run it from there. Runs no problem. I couldn't get the Prefs Pane to work, but all that does is launch the Displays.app
    Have fun!

  • How do I replace an ATI Radeon video card on my MacPro?

The ATI Radeon x1900 video card on my MacPro is failing. I need to replace it with a new/used model. Has anyone ever done this and if so, can you recommend a reliable source for a replacement card, AND, do you know where I can find instructions on how to replace the card? Thank you.

Happy to hear that. Good luck!

  • ATI Radeon X1900 XT only for MacPro?

I Just noticed this this morning at Apple's Online Store ( US )
"ATI Radeon X1900 XT Graphics Upgrade Kit US$ 399.00"
I wonder if this will work in the G5 with Dual Cores ( and Quad ) PCIe ?

Ok thanks Jewell, What a Bugger eh?
X800XT for PCI-X G5's and ATI Radeon X1900 XT for MacPro's and nothing for the PCI-E last generation G5's! (unless you BTO).
I have seen your posts here about the lack of video card upgrades for the Quad, and I feel for you ... it's got to be exasperating !!
It will not unfortunately. Its to do with the way
video cards are recognised by the host system and the
    x1900 is for MacPro only.
    However.
Joe Schorr has confirmed in these forums that ATI
will be releasing a dual-core G5 edition of the x1900
(?) card which would finally make this Apple's first
video upgrade card since the dual-core G5 (quads)
were launched in October 05. Way to go Apple...
I read your repost of it.

  • ATI Radeon HD2600 with FCP HD

    Hi,
Will this card enable me to edit HD video with FCP?
It's part a system I'm thinking about buying from someone, my first mac.
It's a 24" model. How easy is it to upgrade the video card, if that's needed?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    It's a 24" model.
I take it you are talking about an iMac? You can't upgrade the video card on that model.
Most of FCP will run on it as it is, though Color will probably be dog slow.
Consider also that the iMac is limited to using USB and FireWire connections so you will be limited to working with DV, HDV and AVCHD video formats. There's no way to add a capture card.

  • Problem between a Mac Pro / 01-2007 and ATI Radeon X1900XT

    Hello,
My friend has bought a second hand ATI Radeon X1900XT with a fan Zalmann Fatality VC-ZV9 and has the following problems. She can switch on her computer without any problem and the card works fine (Photoshop, ...) As soon as she launches Secondlife client, the screen gets black few minutes after, and if she tries to switch off and on the screen, it says "No signal" anologic or digital. This card is reported to work very well with Secondlife. It can't be overheat, since it comes very quickly, and just after the crash, she can touch the card which is not hot. The fan works fine. How can I investigate to find out what goes wrong with this card ? Her computer is a Mac Pro bought in January 2007 with 3 Gb RAM and Leopard. The problems has occured before 10.5.3 version of Leopard was installed. I've made a test of the Video Memory with Techtool Deluxe and it didn't find any problem.
    Thank you

I think I'm having a similar problem: running a Mac Pro/ATI Radeon X1900XT. Was having issues with general artifacts that seemed to come and go randomly. The machine got very hot one day when the AC was not on and the office was closed: random artifact "pixel dots" became lines on the screen, and then the entire screen just went black.
I had to do a hard shut down, and it's happened several times since. When I pulled the ATI card out, there was considerable dust built up at the intake which I cleaned out. It hasn't blacked out again, but the artifacts remain on the screen.
I suspect the card is about to die, but was trying to see if anyone else had this experience? Also, if anyone recommends replacing it with the same card, or if there is a better recommendation? I do general design and photo editing, no gaming and nothing very intense.
    Thanks for the help!!

  • Arch Noodle ATI Radeon 7000 Scroll Wheel

    Hi,
I'm at a lose here would much appreciate any help.
I've done a new Arch installation and my screen is not nice and Scroll wheel is not working.
I went looking for /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and it  is not there.
I have two graphic cards: one built into MB other is ATI Radeon 7000 with TVout (this is the one I'v connected my Monitor)
I did  xorgcfg but I cant find ATi drivers in the config list.
I've done a lot of searches but not yet sure how to go about this.
(I've installed Mandrake 2006 and It found ATi and due to this I think my HW is ok)

  • NVIDIA GeForce 120 or ATI Radeon X1900... which is better?

    Hi-
I currently have the ATI Radeon X1900 graphics card installed in my Mac Pro 2.26 Nehalem. I'm not having any issue's with the card except that the fans turn On quite frequently, and they're a little loud.
I'm not using it for any games, etc... My primary use is with Pro Tools (a music DAW application).
The ATI Radeon X1900 is running a Apple 30" display and a Sony Bravia 46" LCD.
If I replaced the ATI Radeon X1900 with a NVIDIA GeForce 120, would I be asking for trouble?
    Thanks in advance.

If your Mac Pro came with ATI Radeon X1900, then it needs a card with EFI-32 firmware. The NVIDIA GeForce 120 has EFI-64 firmware, and won't work in the pre 2008 Mac Pro. The only upgrade for early Mac Pros is the ATI Radeon HD 4870

(Despite what Apple says, it will work in any Mac Pro.)
You will need a Mini DisplayPort adapter for the second display,

  • Windows Won't Read my ATI Radeon HD 2400

    Hello,
First, I'd like to point off that I'm a moron. So, please speak to me like I am one.
So, I'm on my 3rd or 4th Boot Camp installation on this iMac. Meaning, I've had Boot Camp installations for a period of time, and for some reason or another decided to repartition and reinstall.
This time around I've had huge amounts of difficulties, and the only reason I'm doing this is to play a couple games (I hate windows so much).
Usually once Windows is finally installed, Boot Camp Drivers solves all my problems.  But, this time around I've had huge issues with Windows having the correct drivers for my hardware.
My biggest issue right now that I can't seem to solve, windows doesn't see my graphics card? I put a question mark on that because Windows confuses me and I never know what I'm looking at.
I have an ATI Radeon HD 2400 graphics card that came built in to this 2 ghz Intel Dual Core 2 Duo iMac.  I've download the latest ATI 10.2 Legacy driver package, and it says that it doesn't work on my system configuration.
I play a game called League of Legends that says it "can't load direct3d" which is a bad thing I guess. Since I've never had that issue.
I've attached my DXDiag which I just learned how to do today.
Also, I'm running 32bit Windows XP which I just noticed only shows I have 3GB of RAM installed when I have 4GB RAM on my imac.  Will i see a performance issue if I upgrade to 64bit Windows XP?

It isn't a true discreet desktop graphic card. And it is more akin to the mobility.
When you have an All-in-one you have more of a notebook motherboard is all.
    Laptop2go is one place.
Sometimes uninstalling the program and driver, followed by a restart, let Windows detect the hardware and install its driver (can't hurt) then try Laptop2go or AMD Mobility. Whatever works.
XP graphic drivers, not my area, seem messy (so was Vista for first two years). The use of Driver Sweeper use to be considered a must when changning and trying out drivers. A part of finding the best driver for your card and system and games you use.
Windows Vista/7 allow one to rollback a driver to earlier, use restore point, uninstall driver - just don't uninstall the device itself or delete the device.
By uninstalling the Apple Boot Camp driver and program you may then be able to install a proper graphic driver.
And seriously, no joke, I find asking Bing is a great place to start -

  • Mac Pro 1.1/ATI Radeon 4870 HD won't detect monitor on boot/sleep

    Hey there all,
    First post.
Been following for a while now.
I'm running into a problem with my MacPro..
When I boot the tower up, the chime rings [through the built-in speaker--not my connected and powered externals]
The video signal will sometimes show up just for a couple of seconds while the Gray-Gear Screen loads and then will instantly loose signal and continue to not detect the display until I suffocate the tower, pull out the DVI adapter and reboot without the display connected until I can hear the volume adjust through my external speakers. . I can then proceed to plug in the adapter and the computer works as it should-- that is, until I put it to sleep and then I must start the whole process over.
I am getting sick of having to do my usual ritual in order to use this machine.
Could it a driver/capatabliliy thing? Or perhaps an installed-OS malfunction?
Is there a way to tell if the card has been flashed to work on the Pro?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for looking into this.
    Cheers.

Okay.. so I did the smc reset. No luck.
I've contacted the seller that I purchased the computer from and he told me that the tower had previous trouble with the card that it came with.. he didn't specify which card, but he's made arrangements for a 3rd party seller to send me an ATI Radeon X1900 with 512mb RAM [same capacity I had before in the Radeon 4870 HD]
Is there a significant difference between these two cards?
Should I have the 3rd party send me the same 4870 HD model? and if so, would the problem persist?
Thanks again, and any help is much appreciated.
    Cheers.
