Anybody running LabVIEW 7.0 on a Pentium II?

I came into the possession of an old server with quad PII 333MHz [i.e. 4 X PII 333MHz] and several GB of RAM.
Will LabVIEW 7.0 run on this box?
I know it will run on e.g. the old AMD K6-2, which is roughly the same vintage, but the official recommendations say "PIII at 600MHz":
http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/321778e.pdf
Has anyone gotten LabVIEW 7.0 to run on an older PII?
I ask because a while back, I tried to install NetWare 6 on an AMD K6-2, and the installer balked, demanding that it be installed on a PIII [which was the first time I'd ever seen something like that from Novell].
Anyway, while the CPU speeds will be a little slow, I figure the multithreading and the opportunity to use that much RAM ought to make the thing kinda fun to play with, assuming the LabVIEW installer will even let me install the thing in the first place.
Thanks!

I would think that upgrading the video card would help. A faster GPU and more video ram will never hurt performance. It would take some of the video processing away from the CPU, so that should be of some help.
While we're at it...
One of the biggest improvments I saw in that old machine was to put a modern hard drive in it. Originally it had an old 5000 rpm. I put a 7200 rpm Western Digital with the 8 meg buffer and could not believe the difference it made. Of course since you're looking at an old server, it may already have some good SCSI drives. But I have seen benchmarks showing a single modern ATA100 drive being faster than an old SCSI setup.

  • Need to run Labview with very low power

    Hi all,
I'm looking for a way to run Labview with only a few watts.  Hopefully only two watts.  The setup will be powered by solar cells and would run continuously.  (Storage batteries would run it at night.)  The problem is that the system requirments say "G3 or better" for Mac, or "Pentium III/Celeron 866" for Windows or Linux, and as far as I can tell, these use up a lot more than 2 watts.
Is there some way to run Labview with this restricted power supply?
    Thanks,
    Peter H.

Another possibility would be an embedded platform:

  • Intel Galileo board - is it possible to run LabView code

    Hello,
can anybody tell me, if it is possible to run Labview code on Intel Galileo board (http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/do-it-yourself/galileo-maker-quark-board.html) ?
This board is Arduino "compatible", but runs x86 architecture and Linux. So it is possible tu run LabView Linux runtime on this board (and LabView code)? If answer is yes, can anybody provide howto?
I'm not interested in LINX (https://www.labviewhacker.com/doku.php?id=libraries:linx:linx) which just access the Arduino board. It is just "comunication API" allowing to access arduino board but not to develop a code arduino can run.
It would be great if there will be possibility to develop all code in for Arduino board in LabView (even with some limitations).
    Thank you for any answers

They run a "full" Linux. They can run normal compiled linux programs.
The Intel board is just a little smaller than the Pi/BBB, with "only" 400Mhz processor, but then it is a x86 processor and not a ARM like the two other boards.
But I don't think that LabVIEW have any run-time enginen for this board.
If that is the case then what is wrong with loading up the Linux Run-Time for x86 processors that NI has?  I have no idea what the process would be to bring over the installer or executable but if what you are saying is true then it seems more likely that it could work.

  • Problems running Weblogic 6.1 Server on Pentium 4 with Windows XP

    Hi everyone.
I've got a problem. I'm trying to run Weblogic 6.1 Server on Pentium 4 with Windows
XP as OS, and when I try to work with the console the system restarts and get
an error message in which I can read something like "big error on the system".
Does anybody know if there is any problem between WebLogic Server and Pentium
    4 or Windows XP?
    Thank you

We're you ever able to install WLS 6.1 sp4 in XP in a working fashion?
WLS 6.1 sp3 works just fine on XP.

SP3 was OK. The problem seems to be in the installer.
When I ran the installer, I saw these weird behaviors:
    - The default value of BEA Home was "\\bea" (should be "C:\bea").
    - The dialog for inputting system password was skipped.
    - After the installer "finished", some directories like
    C:\bea\jdk131, C:\bea\wlserver6.1\bin were missing.
OTOH, "C:\BEA WebLogic E-Business Platform" was created.
    - In the control panel, add/remove program section, the
entry for WebLogic6.1SP4 was not created.
The installer runs fine on Windows 2000. And I copied
the installed files to my Windows XP machine, and I ran
startWebLogic.cmd in myserver directory, it seems OK.

  • Repeated blue screen crash when running labview 8.2 on Dell optiplex GX620

Hi, I have recently experienced a series of 'blue screen' crashes on a Dell Optiplex GX620 while running Labview 8.2. The dell is running Windows XP SP2 with an ATI Radeon X600 graphics card. Labview is interfacing with a NI DAQPad 6015 device. The computer is a dedicated Labview machine so there is no other third party software that has been installed that could be causing the problem. Also, the computer is one of three identical machines, the only one that has labview installed and the only one that is crashing. Upon rebooting after the first 'blue screen' crash an error report indicated that there was a problem with the ATI graphics driver and suggested updating the driver to the latest version. This was done. Upon rebooting after the second 'blue screen' crash an error report indicated that there was a problem with the RAM. Both of these crashes occurred while running a labview application. A further two incidents have occurred where the computer has restarted for no apparent reason while running a labview application. I was wondering if you were aware of any known issues/incompatibilities with my specific machine and labview 8.2, or if there could be any other known issues with labview that might be causing the crashes. It should also be noted that this is a new setup and these crashes have occurred in relatively short time frame. Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
To have a better understanding of what is causing the blue screen crash and the Windows restart, we may need to retrieve the memory dump caused by the crash in Windows XP.  Before we actually get into that, we may need to disable Automatic Reboot by Windows when it crashes.  I have attached a link that describes how to disable computer reboot after a crash and I have also attached a link of how to retreive the memory dump.  Let me know how it goes!
Why Does My Computer Automatically Reboot For No Reason?
How Can I Create a Kernel Memory Dump When Windows Crashes?
(Note that we want to select Complete memory dump, not Kernel Memory dump)

  • How to totally close a running LabVIEW Application

    Hello NG,
I have a little problem closing a running LabVIEW Application. For
example I run 2 Applications in parallel. I would like to totally close
one of them. If I use the "Exit LabVIEW" VI both Applications will be
shut down. If I only stop the Application, the not running Front Panel
is still available. How could I close an Application like a normal
    Windows program?
Thanks a lot for your help.
    Best regards,
    Michael

If you build both applications into seperate executables, I believe Exit LabVIEW should only affect the one where it was run.
If these are 2 VIs running inside LV, you can wire F into FP.Open property of the top level VI. Once the FP of the top level VI closes, the entire hierarchy will be closed as well. This also works with the RTE.
To do this, you need to create a property node (Application Control palette), right click it and select the VI class and select the property.
The other option (basically the same thing) is to use the invoke node with the Close FP method.

  • Run Labview as different windows user (for database connectivity)

I have to connect to a corporate remote MSSQL-Database on the network, using the database connectivity toolkit for LabVIEW.
The db-authentification is realized checking the windows user (ads) who acceses the datebase (not a database user / password which is standard in the database vis)
Therefore I have to run LabVIEW as the defined windows user, different than the logged in user on the pc.
Is that possible to realize with LabVIEW?
Other Windows-tools allow to define the windows user/password which "run" an application - how can I do that with LabVIEW?

Hi Zav.  There is a windows command 'runas' which _may_ let you do what you want; I haven't
tried what you need to do, but is has worked for other tasks for us.  Try 'runas /?' for the switches.
You will have to build your LV program into an executable, then use runas to launch it.  Is there
a reason you can't just login to Windows as the required user?
If you can get your db admin to allow dbuser/password authentication that would be a much better
    way to go.

  • Anybody running LP projects on an External HD?

anybody running LP projects on an External HD?
If you do, have you met any problem? like Jam?~

I understand that firewire 800 is preferable to 400. Faster anyway. I don't have 800 capability on my computer but I do know that an external firewire drive uses less of the computer's processing power which is why you get a performance boost. It's not massive but on my computer the cpu levels were down 10 to 15 percent. The ideal situation is 2 external drives; one for projects and the other for samples and loops. I can't speak to esata drives because I have no experience with them. Regarding rpm, most external drives run at 7200 unless they're very small portable ones. That being something of a constant the real issues are quality of the drive and its transfer rate.

  • How to run labview program in debugging mode in windows 95 version

    Respected all,
I am facing probelm while running probe.vi.
I received this command "connection to acquisition board was not found" when i run labview program.
I  am using labview 5.1, fieldpoint FP 1000, NI-DAQ 6.5, Field point explorer version 1.6, Measurement and Automation Explorer 1.0.1.
I would kindly request you please help me how to run my program probe.vi in debugging mode in windows 95 version, so that i can locate where error occurs.
    Thanking You
    Yours faithfully
    M.Vijay

    Respected Norbert,
Thank you very much to for your help.
Norbert : Possible reasons are e.g. wrong IDs for measurement devices. If the error is connect to the FieldPoint, it is possible that it isn't configured correctly.
I am using Field point explorer 1.6, The Field point instrument FP 1000 and RS-232 port is using. It is confirmed that the field point instrument is working properly by LED light indication test.
Norbert: It sound like you are using DAQ devices (like PCI MIO 6952E) in the application. Are you sure that you select the correct device ID for this?
I am asking you to know, If i using Labview and  Fieldpoint instrument FP 1000 to monitor my parameter interms of All, Channel 0, Channel 1, Channel 2, Channel 3, Channel 4, Channel 5, Channel 6, Channel 7 for my measurement.
But now i need to solve the command connection to acquisition board was not found, The expert say this command is due to there was no AT-AO-10 Analog Output board was present in CPU.
I do not find AT-AO-10 Analog Output board in my CPU, Previously the instrument was worked perfectly by other person who assembled everthing to measure temperature.
The only aswer know send by previous person is if my task does not imply the use of a DAQ you probably have to locate where the DAQ driver is called and exclude it from the program. try to run the program in debugging mode so that you can locate where the error occurs.
I do not know how to proceed his instruction. So i would kindly request you to please help me to solve my probelm.
I also removed AT-AO-10 software from device manager >> Data Acquisition system >>  AT-AO-10 just now.
I also find GPIB version 1.30, when i remove in add or remove program, it say that Error removing the GPIB.
I am eagerly waiting for your help.
    Thanking You

  • Can anybody run Oralce(8.1.6) demo code ?

Can anybody run Oralce(8.1.6) demo code about embedded SQL without any problem?
    It seems that I'm unlucky.
I need to write a small embedded SQL program (Window 2000 / VC++6 compiler) that can connect to the Oracle server on the LAN. So I try to begin from the demo code which provided by Oracle. Precompiler and VC++ compiler process seem OK (only adjust the precompiler's default path to the correct path which contains the head files). So I can get the exeacutable file.
But when I run the exeacutable file, error occurs! ORA-12560. protocol adapter error!
The SQL Plus works fine. The whole system is new and clean. After tracing the operation, I find that maybe the protocol I'm using is: 'beq', instead of 'TCP/IP'.
A little bit further searching in Oracle document said that I may need to install JSB driver... But it seems that no related dll files in my computer... I'm totally lost here!
Can anybody help me about it!
    Thanks a lot!!
    Charles

Is there a reason that you can't use the newer 8.1.6.2 driver? Generally, Oracle doesn't make all the older versions available for download.

  • How to run labview in debug mode

    Two questions:
    1. how to run labview in debug mode
    2. how to save default text values in labview

    Hi,
consider i have streaming bits of data as input who length varies each time. I need to select 11 bits at a time and apply (15,11) hamming coding for the inputs till the input is stopped.
I have designed the hamming encoding and decoding block. I need a methodology to select 11 bits at a time from the input and provide to the hamming encoder.
eg: if input is 1100 bits, output must be 1500 bits.
I have uploaded the encoder and the decoder part. Please suggest me the design to read the input and append the output.

How to run Labview application in tablet with android operating system?
Can we use Labview mobile module or we must use google play data dashboard for labVIEW? how to install it in PC?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you had looked at data dashboard and some of the other links on Android, you would see that you cannot run a LabVIEW app on Android. Nor can you use a serial port. With Data Dashboard, you have a pc running LabVIEW and it publishes to network shared variables. Data Dashboard on the Android allows you to view those variables.

  • Error Code 37 running labview 6 with windows XP

I've checked most of the posts concerning this Generic error code 37. Here is my dilemma..Currently running Labview 6 on a windows NT system. That computer is on its last legs and we want to upgrade to XP...I installed labview 6 on an XP machine and the program runs fine..and I actually get data from my external device except I get the ERROR 37...The big thing is I cannot run a SUBVI that creates a linear fit because once I get the error 37, the SUBVI stops. I can't understand how I can read data from my external device, yet get the device not found msg. I've even tried installing LV 7, and LV 8 yet get the same results.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for the information...Unfortunately I tried all the suggestions and still no luck. The weird thing is I can get individual data from the analog device to output from the VI (i get actual data to show where it is supposed to show in the output boxes), yet I still get the "ERROR 37" message. The one big problem is that I cannot standardize the device through the LV program and therefore the individual data is not calibrated properly. In the standardize VI, the programs runs through a series of samples, and creates a calibration curve. Then when we run individual analyses the calibration curve is used. The problem that occurs in the standardize VI is that the program doesn't advance past the first sample (error 37)so I cannot generate the calibration curve.
All of the suggestions are greatly aprreciated. What I really do not understand is that without changing anything (just copying files from one computer to another) how the error code comes about. One thing I am going to try over the weekend is to add another COMM port and see what happens.
This may seem ignorant, but How do you "CLOSE" a COMM port???

  • Running labview application on windowsCE or WindowsXPe

does anyone have experience of running labview application on windowsCE or windows xp embedded system? I would like to build an lv application which plays videos on a CE or XPe system. Any comments are welcome.
    thanks,

I use the PDA Module for LabVIEW to run programs on Windows CE and Windows Mobile. You have to use a PC for the development and building of the application, then either use ActiveSync or copy the .exe over to the CE device. There are some limitations in the code and the user interface, but most things work fine.
I haven't actually tried video yet on CE, perhaps that is something I can play with soon.
    Good luck!

  • Can i run labview on Windows CE or embedded XP?

If it is possible, what are the minimum specifications for the PC? And can anyone recommend a manufacturer?

Basically, anything that will run on XP should run on XP Embedded. I am
presently running LabVIEW applications on XP Embedded. Windows CE is a
totally different operating system and will not presently run LabVIEW (NI
should verify this but I'm fairly sure this is true). You'll have to ask NI
when this will change but I think there will be CE support in the future.
XP Embedded should run on any PC that XP will run on but if you stick with
better known brands and components you'll have an easier time building your
XP application. Your speed should be similar to regular XP but your hard
drive space is usually a lot less because you strip out as much of the
operating system as you want. I am running on bootable CDs without any hard
    drive.
