Anybody Succeeded in RAC 2 node installation using vmware?

Friends,
i tried to install 2 node 10gR2 RAC in vmware workstation and also in vmware server 2.
i check the clustering will be supporting in vmware workstation (ofcourse it will give a warning that clustering will not support)
i got struck in connecting the first node to the host.
ok here goes my problem..
1. i am doing everything in dell precision m4600 i7 2720qm
2. host is windows 7 pro version(172.16.1.3)
3. installed vmware workstation 8 in win7
4. installed the rhel 4.8 as a guest os with two network card. one is bridged(172.16.1.4) and other one is host only(10.10.10.31).
5. after installation of os, i tried to ping the guest os from host and viceversa....but no use...not pinging....
6. in the both win7 and guest os i set the gateway as 172.16.1.1
so this is the problem...how to solve this network issue...? once i solve this, then only i can go with the next step....
for the past 10 hrs...i was keep on searching in the forums, irc etc.....still i didnt get a solution....
i hope somebody in this forum...have succeeded....so i hope somebody will help me in solving this issue.
i followed many links...all are stating to add two network cards one is for public and another one is for private (virtualip will be added in the host file).
thanks

did you install l VMware Client Tools?
after install vmware tools you can copy and paste files between guest os and main windows system.
check you /etc/hosts file in the guest Operating system. need to ping between the two node guest os only. no need to worry about primary windows 7 os and guest os

  • RAC node process using 25% physical memory

We have a QA server is non-RAC, and production is two-node RAC. We have a migration app that does an INSERT from SELECT over 2 instances. All of the machines have been in successful day-to-day use for several months...our only troublespot seems to be the migration app.
Today we started the app on the QA server and watched the oracle processes using top. They ran normally and finished without any problems.
The same app started on either of the RAC nodes produced process memory errors and died.
As the app ran, there was a process reading the data from the source instance and a process writing to the target instance. We confirmed this by querying the session data. It doesn't matter which of the nodes runs which target process...the result is the same.
The reading process(session) on the source instance seems to run normally. The write process on the target instance, however, begins slowly accumulating memory in about 16M chunks and holds on to them.
We saw this in the RES and in the MEM columns of top. The target process never released any memory, but slowly grabbed it until its
RES was 4GB and the %MEM was about 30%. The app then died with process memory error. This is reproducible over several runs.
( Per Metalink Note 567506.1, the recommended value for Linux 64-bit is 4294967295 ..we have that set. )
There are other oracle processes and instances running on both nodes which do not seem to be affected. The total number of processes on each machine is around 750..much lower than the nprocs ulimit of 63K.
These process are both oracle sessions spawned by the app.
I haven't seen any info on the web or Metalink that matches these symptoms, so I thought I'd try the experts.
Why would the write session continuously use up physical memory, but only on RAC nodes?
We are running RHEL5 on Dell Poweredge 2950 w 16K Physical mem. Version of 10g is R2.0.4.

We saw this in the RES and in the MEM columns of top. The target process never released any memory, but slowly grabbed it until its
RES was 4GB and the %MEM was about 30%. How does the writer process work? Does it use PL/SQL? Does it use bulk processing? How does it call the reader process? Or does the reader process call it? Is this over a database link.
The app then died with process memory error. This is reproducible over several runs.If this is an Oracle server process, then there should be an entry in the alert log of the instance that recorded the crash and includes the name of the trace file generated by the crash.

  • Installation using VMWare

I want to install mysql, tomcat and idm on my windows xp laptop. i'm thinking of using vmware. i have 2 questions.
    1) do you know of any installation instructions on how to do that?
    2) i have 1 gig of memory, is that enough?

    Hi,
there are no specifiy requirements to run IDM inside a VM. Just follow the instructions from the installation guide for your guest OS.
As far as the memory is concerned it depends what guest OS you use and what you try to do with your IDM installation.
If the guest has a small memory footprint (for example linux without X and unneeded demons running) you should be able to have the VM limited to 256MB RAM and still be able to dedicate a lot of that to IDM.
IDM as such can be run with an Xms of 64MB - but if you do that operations on big numbers will fail. Mostly it limits the numbers of accounts you can handle or the number of audit log entries you can report on at a given time.
Personally I do not use VMWare for this purpose anymore(there are many other things that I use it for tho). I have a Java SDK installed on my Windows XP and built "Standalone Packages". These are Rar archives if not currently used or folders that contain a mysql(set up NOT to run as a service) or a hsqldb repository, a tomcat servlet engine and an IDM installation.
The lh.bat's are modified like described here:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5189287&tstart=0
and I have batch files for starting the webapp and BPE.
That way I am able to have an IDM environment for every customer and for every version of IDM used by customers on my laptop without spending gigabytes for virtual machines. If such a package is stripped from documentation, binaries for other platforms,... it may end up beeing about 100 MB in size.

  • Suggestions for Oracle 10g  Installation using VMware in Windows XP.

    Hi All,
I am using Intel(R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU P8600 @2.4 Ghz with 1.98 GB RAM with Windows XP with 70 GB disk space. I would like to install a 2 node RAC with ASM and if possible also configure a DG for learning and testing purpose. Please advice if this will work using a VMware . Is RAC VM possible only Linux or with Windows as well ?
I think 11g is out of scope since i don't have sufficient memory.
I am new to VMware and have not done any installations or used it till now.
It would be appreciated if you could help with these doubts.
    1. How much memory can be allocated to each instances? If i am installing Linux how much memory is required ?
    2. what will be the load on the CPU and will i be able to use it without any resource crunch ?
3.Once memory is allocated to VM, can it be claimed back , is it like if i am not starting the VMware services.. i have the full 2 GB in discretion?
    4. Can 10g Standard editions be used for learning purposes?
If the above hardware is not sufficient, please suggest a suitable configuration

You do not have sufficient hardware - you will likely need 6GB of RAM or more, plus 100G of disk or more and a multiprocessor machine. Each VM will need at least 2GB of RAM, and once all of the VMs/RAC are installed, the system will be pretty busy running 3 OS's (host and two guests) and two databases. If you do not start up the VMs, all of the memory is available for the host to use. 10g is no longer available for download, you will have to use 11g - yes SE edition is sufficient for learning purposes.

  • How to install Muti_node R12 using VMWARE

    Hi,
Any one have experience on R12 with Linux installing multi node using vmware ,Please let me know, i know single node installation on VMWARE WORK STATION,
    Thanks

I got this multi node installation procedure from blog,
    http://skrajend.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
    R12 MultiNode Installation with VMWare
Have only one node , don't worry still you can have enjoy R12 MultiNode Installation with VMWare.
I will share my experience here with all on how to setup R12 in a single node first and then add another Middle Tier.
Setup Requirement : Node with atleast 1 GB of Ram and 80GB of HardDisk , OS Dump , R12 Dump and VMWare Software
Download a Copy of VMWare WorkStation from http://www.vmware.com/download/ws/ for Linux
You will need an evaluation key
http://www.vmware.com/vmwarestore/newstore/wkst_eval_login.jsp , make sure you have the key before you start the Installation.
I downloaded an Image of Redhat Linux RHEL4-U4-i386-ES
    Linux Node Setup Information:
    1. Install OS Image on to the Box
    2. Name the host , say r12lab01.r12.com and assign a static IP
    3. Make sure you have all the latest RPM's in place. For more info refer R12 OS Pre-requisite Notes.
    4. Open a VNC Server as Root
    5. Download the VMWare RPM Package "VMware-workstation-5.5.3-34685.i386.rpm"
    6. Install the RPM Package
    7. Configure VMWare using "http://www.vmware.com/support/ws5/doc/ws_install_linux.html"
    8. Start VMware Workstation ( /usr/bin/vmware )
    9. Enter your serial number.
    10. Create a virtual machine using the New Virtual Machine Wizard.
    ( ref : http://www.vmware.com/support/ws5/doc/newguest_ws.html )
    11. Install a guest operating system in the new virtual machine.
You need the installation media CD-ROM for your guest operating system
    12. Name the New Virtual Host as r12lab02.r12.com and assign a static IP
    13. Make sure that you can communicate between first and the second node.
I am struck up here, can you explain me how to do this,
    14. Power Off the Node and Start Fresh , make sure you have no OS Issues.
    15. Keep the VNC Session Active. ( If you loose it , your will not have the new node )
    R12 Setup Information:
    1. Download Dump of R12 from http://edelivery.oracle.com
    2. Stage them on the Hard Disk( I did not include the space requirement of the Dump above)
    3. Run a Single Node Installation
    4. Make sure that the Installation Completed Normal and all the Service are Up and Running.
    5. Perform a Complete Health Check.
Adding a Node to the Existing Setup:
    1. Power on the Second Node
    2. Mount the R12 Mount Points on the Second Node.
i tried in VMware environment, but i am not able to mount the mount points,
    3. cd /home1/aptest/test/apps/apps_st/comn/clone/bin/
    4. perl adclonectx.pl addnode contextfile=TEST_r12lab01.xml
Target hostname (virtual or normal) [r12lab02]:
    5. Make sure that the above process generate the Secondary Node's Context File
    6. Make the Service Enabled that you want to run on the Second Node.
Initially have web service configured and later modify according to your need.
    7. Move into AD_TOP/bin and run adconfig.sh , context_file=TEST_r12lab01.xml
    8. Make sure that Autoconfig Complete's Normal.
    9. Source the Environment File
    10. Start the Service on the Seconday Node
    11. Navigate to OAM and verify that you have the Second Node.

  • 11gr2 rac installation on vmware runinstaller not able to visible all nodes

    Hello,
Recently I have installed two nodes 11gr2 rac on vmware workstation 6 with OEL 5.4. CRS installation work fine. But after that when I do olsnodes, it's shows only one node. Also, when I try to install oracle database binary, in node selection tab, it's shows only respective nodes and not shows all nodes.

Installation of 11gr2 Grid was successfull or not?
Try to check the status of High Availability service daemon by typing the following command:
./crsctl check cluster. (on all nodes)
The output should look like this:
CRS-4537: Cluster Ready Services is online
CRS-4529: Cluster Synchronization Services is online
    CRS-4533: Event Manager is online

Re: How to install Muti_node R12 using VMWARE
    Mine is a little different.
I have the Test server which has OEL5 and one OAS 10g(Oracle application Server) with 10g database.
I want to install RAC OBS on this server by installing VMWare for the single node. I do not want to wipe out the OAS, reinstore OSL5 and start from a blank machine.
Can I keep what I have on the server and install RAC OBS by installing VMWare, configuring the virtual sharing disks, and install RAC OBS using ASM?

    Hi,
Can I keep what I have on the server and install RAC OBS by installing VMWare, configuring the virtual sharing disks, and install RAC OBS using ASM?Yes, you can. Just make sure you have sufficient resources on this machine.

  • Putting Oracle Apps 11i on 10g RAC using VMware

    Hello All,
I am building a Oracle Applications 11i on 10g RAC, using VMware..Since there aren't any docs I could find on internet explaining how to do this, I have come up with my own. I have combined the MEtalink doc:362135.1 and the docs describing building a 10gRAC "database" using VMware..I want to know if the below process is good enough to get the required results:
    Steps:
    -Install VMware on HOST m/c
    -Configure 1st virtual m/c, say RAC1
    -Install RHEL on RAC1
-Install 11i with 9i database on the local SCSI bus- SCSI 0:0
    -Install VMware client tools
-Create a new ethernet adapter(for private interconnect) on RAC1
    -Create shared disks on RAC1
    -Partition the disks
-Add the disks as RAW devices in /etc/rawdevices
    -Clone RAC1 to a new virtual m/c,say RAC2
-Delete the 11i apps directories from its local SCSI bus..since these would be redundant on RAC2
-Install Clusterware s/w on RAC1 using the same oraInventory that is used by the Applications 11i installation-
-Install the 10g DB software and create ASM instances using dbca
-Install Database componenets from 10g companion CD
-Upgrade CRS abd DB s/w to 10.2.0.4
-Upgrade the 9i database to 10g using dbua from the 10g ORACLE_HOME
-Convert the newly upgraded 10g databse to RAC using the rconfig tool
    -Post migration steps for RAC
-Enable AutoConfig on the Applications Database tier
    - Follow the "Establish Applications Environment for RAC" section from Doc:362135.1
    -Configure PArallel Concurrent Processing(PCP)
    Thanks,
    Sandeep

(Considering that there are only 2 nodes the scenario the steps would be as follows:
    1. Install RAC using the steps provided at the link:
    http://oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gR2RACInstallationOnCentos4UsingVMware.php
2.On RAC1 create a single instance of Oracle 11i (Both DB and Apps are on the same node)
    3. Follow the steps outlined in the Note:362135.1
One thing to note is that the steps are the same whether the nodes are real or virtual.
