Anybody Tried This?

I just wondered if anyone was doing this? Netflix => Roku => Slingbox => Droid. Android now has a Slingbox app for $30. Netflix is already available via Roku and Roku is compatible with Slingbox. I know Netflix is coming out with an Android app, but who knows how long that might take. Edit: Netflix requires WIFI for viewing movies on your laptop. However, you can view Slingbox (SD) via Droid using 3G. The Slingbox Solo uploads all content as SD. So, you could view unlimited Netflix movies via your Droid anywhere, anytime for $10 per month.

Sounds possible... also sounds like someone might patch that too ...haha

  • Has anybody tried this multirow header JTable sample?

    Hi,
    http://www2.gol.com/users/tame/swing/examples/JTableExamples1.html
I found a link to this sample from this forum, and I need to implement a similar functionality. I tried running the code of this sample but it returns a "NullPointerException" for the call "GetHeaderRenderer" in the class "GroupableTableHeaderUI".
Has anybody tried this, and if so, how do I get this sample to work ??
    Thanks,
    R.

I ran into this problem a while ago. If you are using SDK 1.3 and above, tame's example won't work. You need to some minor modification in the "GroupableTableHeaderUI" java file. I have already made it work under SDK 1.3.02. I don't have the source code at home. So, if you need to take look at my source code please let me know, I can either e-mail or post it when I return to my office.

  • Mini DVI to DVI + DVI to video out - anybody tried this on Macbook white?

    Hi there,
reading the posts in the forum it seems quite clear that the mini DVI to video adapter is not compatible with the new Macbook white (early 09).
Has anybody tried to use a mini DVI to DVI and a DVI to video adapter together? In theory this combination should work but it is possible that Apple has done something to make this combination not working.
If that is not possibl, has anybody got any other ideas on how to connect a Macbook to a standard tv with the 3 RCA pins (yellow for video and red and white for audio)?
    Thanks a lot
    Mike

No, Mini DVI to DVI and then DVI to Video won't work either. But this will work used in conjunction with a Mini DVI to VGA Adapter:

  • "Anybody tried this at home?"...a follow-up!!

    Hi all,
To anybody who got interested in my crazy idea of using an SD card as an audio HD on the current MBP, i finally got one and tried it. I don't know if my procedure is right, though. I used a current "work in progress" containing 5 soft synths tracks and 2 electric guitar tracks. I saved the project to the SD card. I did a Bounce in Place of every synth track to render them as audio tracks. So, that's 7 audio tracks playing.
What i don't know is if the bounced tracks play from the SD or from RAM. Even though i use Logic for as long as i can remember, i'm not very familiar with how those things operate inside the app.. Anyway, if it does play from the SD, that's quite impressive as the HD meter was barely registering anything, but there were some activity. I bought a 8Gb SDHC Class 6(whatever that means!!). I'll try this with a more consistent song soon and will report.
I find this very convenient if all goes well, as it will keep my system drive cleaner and clears a port on my MBP. Of course, this is for the hobbyist like me who doesn't do big productions and who do mainly MIDI stuff with AU and external synths.
Feel free to comment if you have a minute to kill!!

If the SD card shows up on the desktop as a drive, then there's no technical reason why Logic wouldn't at least try to record to it if you told it to. But I doubt it's the idea of the century, even for just a couple of tracks. If you want to spare up a USB or FireWire port, and you like the idea of "silent" recording.. then just use the internal drive of the MacBook Pro. It's not going to create any more noise than the computer already makes, and it certainly won't struggle to handle 2 or 3 tracks, or even 50 or 60 tracks. I really don't see the point of doing otherwise.
BTW if you want it to be even quieter still, then perhaps an SSD system drive would have been a good idea, because in that case, you won't have any drive noise from the computer at all. You'd have to be content with a smaller capacity drive though, and they cost more. But it's doable. You can even buy one later and quite easily swap out your current system drive, it's been made quite easy to do on the current MBPs AFAIK.

  • Anybody tried this RAM?

Has anyone bought and used this RAM?
    http://www.memorytogo.com/comp_modeldisp~srch~Apple-MacPro+Quad+Xeon+2%2E66GHz~mid~99591280.htm
Price looks good but I am concerned the heat sinks are not good enough and will cause issues with the RAM and temps within the Mac Pro.
    William

    I picked up 2GB (1GB sticks) from datamem.com for
$378. I will have it monday, and will reply on how
    they look and perform.
    Kimo
Cool! Let us know how it works, stress your Mac Pro and make sure you get NO errors! Seems memory for these Macs needs proper/sufficent cooling heat sinks to prevent over heating and causing memory erros and freezing.
    Check this out:
Mac Pro owner notes on using standard FB-Dimms (with added heatsinks) - A reader with a Mac Pro that actually received his earlier Crucial memory order (they were removed from the compatibility list 2 days ago) sent a note that although he had an RMA to return them, he decided to try them after adding some additional (stick-on) VRAM heatsinks. He said after an hour of use he didn't notice any problems (or louder fans) but I asked him to test for several hours and he later wrote Apple System Profiler showed one of the Crucial dimms had 2 ECC ('soft') error corrections:
    " DIMM Riser B/DIMM 1:
    Size: 1 GB
    Type: DDR2 FB-DIMM
    Speed: 667 MHz
    Status: ECC Errors
    ECC Correctable Errors: 2 "
There wasn't an alert on this, he was just monitoring it in ASP while running tests. He later said during stress tests he had another error/correction appear and the system froze once while repeatedly toggling expose. He said he's ordered some other heatsinks to try and is also moving those dimms from the bottom riser card to the top riser (swapping positions with the OEM dimms) to try and reduce heat. I wasn't sure if this was heat related or if that one dimm was suspect, but he later wrote:
" I have begun to wonder about the mac pro design. Why put the memory behind the hot cpu? Should be in front getting cold air blown on it....
Anyhow I repositioned the dimms so the crucial memory is on top and the apple memory on the bottom in hopes of reproducing the ecc error correction. No errors yet and I have been running stuff for a while. I am thinking the top is less hot as the heat flows out the top better. I still think the heatsinks tomorrow will fix for sure but we shall see. No problems so far. This might fix it.
    (he later wrote)
Well I ran the mac pro with almost 100% processor utilization and used all the ram the whole time for about 9 hrs straight and no errors. I think moving it to the top slot fixed the heat issue.
(I asked Dave to confirm he has no complaints on fan speed/noise. I hear the Mac Pros are typically very quiet-Mike.)
... No fan speedup at all, ever infact. The dimms work great. It was just errors on that one dimm, but since I moved them nothing. I might have seated it wrong or something because the problem is gone.
    -Dave "
I had originally suggested he return the dimms and wait for the 'revised' ones (mentioned in yesterday's Crucial's comments why Mac Pro ram listings were pulled & future plans), but he said he was told they were not going to support the Mac Pro. (I suspect the person he talked to just wasn't aware of their plans on this - but wrote my Micron contact again last night who confirmed the comments on future plans were still valid although the revised heatsink models will likely have higher prices.)
Update: Dave sent a photo of the modified dimm installed in an upper riser board.
If anyone else tries 3rd party FB-Dimms in their Mac Pro (either standard flat heatsink types or larger heatsink types like OWC's Mac Pro memory), let me know your experience.
(BTW - Most all readers with Mac Pros are only using the OEM RAM, but a 3GHz Mac Pro owner wrote he's going to test tonight with some 512MB Kingston (standard heatsink) FB-Dimms and report back. I've had several ram dealers write they've had no problems reported with standard FB-Dimms, although until Dave mentioned monitoring ASP for error corrections, nobody tested while checking that. I assumed from Apple's comments only potentially higher fan speeds would result from using the standard heatsinks, but nobody seems to have noticed any difference in fan speeds regardless so far. I wish Apple would have just used standard dimms...)

  • Anybody tried this at home?

    Hi all,
i just bought a Macbook Pro and i was wondering if anybody with the new gen of Pros tried recording to an SD card? Being a hobbyist doing mainly MIDI stuff with generally a max of 2 to 3 audio tracks on an average project, i'm thinking that it could be a great and silent way to work, and it would spare a USB port on the laptop.
Since companies like Boss and Tascam do 8-tracks recorders with that media, it should work, no? You could say:"Just buy one, dude, and try it" but if someone's experience can spare me the purchase of one only to discover that Logic doesn't even allow me to try it, that would be nice!!
    So??? Thanks for your time.

If the SD card shows up on the desktop as a drive, then there's no technical reason why Logic wouldn't at least try to record to it if you told it to. • Has anybody tried the Day-Timer iPhone App -  Syncs. Calendar + Todo list?

I have had my iPhone 3Gs calender sync. break several times,
and honestly none of them seem to be my "fault". I stumbled across this app. and for $6 I'd take the cowards way out rather than try to fix my current broken sync. problem with iTunes. Has anybody tried this?
    http://www.daytimer.com/iphoneapps/
Frankly the demo. seems pretty clever:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7FDiy5PsfU
I have not connection with Day-Timer company... other than being a potential customer

Vlingo doesn't consume all the app memory space itself... it can be used by a number of factors, including the browser cache.
Your unintall of Vlingo also caused a reboot of the device in which all the free memory space was cleared, from routine use of the BB device.

  • HT201342 I got a notice there is an icloud email reserved for me. It reads like I will get all my icloud mail in my .me acc't along with my me mail. Double of the mail? Has anyone tried this icloud mail yet?

The notice reads like I will receive my icloud emails in my icloud AND my me acc'ts. Double the amount of email? Also, I tried to set up the icloud acct in my mac mail preferences and it says the me acct is already set up. Why would I need 2 different email extensions if it's the same acct? This is weird. Has anybody tried this new icloud email?

You can use @icloud.com or @me.com to send and receive emails from.  They share the same inbox.  You won't get double the mail.
You don't setup an icloud email account in the mail preferences.  They are automatically setup in system preferences >> icloud.  You can choose which you are sending from when you're composing an email by click the drop down menu beside "from".  You can chose the default in mail menu >> preferences >> composing.

    1) Has anybody tried Geil ddr3 with this mobo and if so, did you have any problems with the combination of these products.
    2) Do the timings need to be altered for getting a 4gb (2x2gb) set?

That looks like a real DDR3-1333
However, most of the Patriot DDR3-1333 are overvoltaged DDR3-1066.
Try to test their stability at 7-7-7-21 and 1.7V

  • 1minute video distortion with iDVD-anybody encounter this?

I encountered a strange issue with a movie that I recently created in iDVD. Src was 1080i HD, downconverted to 720p and imported to iMHD, and then used within iDVD.
At about 53 minutes in the video (total ~1hr 40 min DVD encoded using Prof setting), there is a strange video distortion created - difficult to describe, but looks like say a 100x100 pixel movie upscaled to 720x480 with big blotches of color all over.
Src video imported to iDVD looks impeccable, and even if I recreated the DVD with diff src media at the 52minute mark, the distortion still shows up exactly for 1 minute around the 53 min (or 52.5 or 53.5 or 54 min) mark.
Really bugs me, as iDVD otherwise seems to do an OK job with the downconversion of the HD src file.
Anybody seen this odd behavior with iDVD? BTW, I burn to disc image, and both the image as well as the DVD show identical distortion at the same spot.

    Bengt,
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try trashing the iDVD pref file and re-do the disc image. I've already had to trash the iMovie pref file several times due to another bug there - I seem to have hit some max limit on # of cutaways+PIP inserts and it doesn't allow me to add another cutaway/PIP -- but that will have to be a different thread!
The file formats are the same throughout the movie - mixed HDV 1080i + AVCHD 1080i - and they are both downconverted to 720p using the native HD output format from iM09. All orig source and the 720p files look great without any artifacts. However, only the 1 min section as mentioned before has these really ugly blotchy artifacts when output from iDVD to 480i.
Unfortunately, I got the same artifacts/distortion at about the same point in the movie even if I tried a different iDVD theme (same movie length) or tried the output to Vid-TS folders...:-( This seems to point to a bug in the internal conversion to VOB...
I'll try your suggestion next - to trash iDVD pref and re-do the disc image again.
    Thanks!

  • Has anybody tried to install RAC on Zones as nodes ?

    Hi guys,
Could anyone share his experiences about installing Oracle RAC
on Solaris zones located on single physical machine ?
I created 2 sparse root zones , presented the same raw devices for ocr and votedisk to them and try to install clusterware,
but during clusterware initialization there is an error
OCROSD[1]utsz:3: ioctl DKIOCGAPART failed. errno 48
Does anybody tried similar configuration ?

I have not tried this since it is explicitly unsupported by oracle.

    Hello,
Admin/boot credentials are specified when you are creating a new domain, not while installation. Create a new domain, it prompt for user credential, remember them. Then start the server and try to log on to admin console using that credentials.
