Anybody using PowerDVD to view Encore's Blu-Ray ISO's?

I know I did it a few times in PowerDVD8 but I can't get it to work with PowerDVD9.  I'm using MagicDisc to mount the ISO to a virtual drive - when I try to load it in PowerDVD9 I get an "unsupported format" error.
I really want to check out the menus before burning the ISO to disc - has anybody gotten this to work?  Are there other ways to play from the ISO?
Thanks,
rgames

I just had a little chat with Cyberlink, it seems non of the versions support iso''s.
I am currently on version 8 and use Virtual Clone Drive from SlySoft which works fine.
I also have to use AnyDVDhd because my monitor does not support HDCP.

  • Can Disk Utility burn a Blu-ray ISO file?

This is a simple question to pose: assuming only the best of media and burner hardware (so that problems with those don't come into play), can Disk Utility reliably burn ISO images that represent a Blu-ray disk, complete with chapters and whatever else is contained on a Blu-ray disk?
    Background
I'll be using Adobe Premiere to generate videos for burning to Blu-ray disk. There seems to be several ways for me to do that, and most of them seem to have problems:
    1. From the completed Premiere project, I can jump into Adobe Encore and burn from there. But… many comments on the Adobe forum suggest that route may be problematic. No burn-speed control for instance. The Encore forum is full of people who don't use Encore's burning abilities, but instead use Toast or the PC equivalent.
    2. Use Toast. I've just received a special offer form Other World Computing to buy Toast 11 Pro for $49. But… I've been put off buying Toast because of many poor reviews on Amazon. A handful of poor reviews I could ignore, but there are dozens.
    3. Use Encore to generate an ISO image of my completed Blu-ray, then use Disk Utility to burn that ISO. But… there are websites in the internet jungle telling me I need to download their product to be able to burn Blu-ray ISO images on a Mac. On the other hand, there are reputable websites (here and here) that explain how to use Disk Utility to burn Blu-ray ISOs.
Basically, I'm confused. It seems to me that Encore > ISO > Disk Utility is the way to go, but I would like confirmation from Apple users that this route will work and is reliable. If not, maybe I should be buying Toast before the special runs out on 30 April.

First, I duplicated one of the links in my original post. The correct links are (1) and (2).
Thanks for the replies, but they haven't cleared up my confusion.
On the last page of the first link, lifted from the California Institute of the Arts website, clear instructions are given for using Disk Utility to burn a Blu-ray ISO.
Right at the bottom of the second link, lifted from the Drexel University website, similar instructions are given for using Disk Utility to burn a Blu-ray ISO.
Are both instructions incorrect in their basic assumption? When their students go to video lab to burn a Blu-ray, do the students find it can't be done?
This is really confusing. Toast gets very poor reviews, yet I've never had a problem with Toast 9. Two tertiary education sites tell me how to burn a Blu-ray with Disk Utility, but I've just received two responses which tell me it can't be done. I'm intrigued.

  • Best Way to Play Blu-ray disc/Blu-ray ISO on Windows 8

Nowadays, almost any computer can play DVD movies as long as there is a DVD drive provided, whatever it's a PC or Mac, homemade DVD or commercial DVD. But what about Blu-ray movies? Could your Windows 8 PC play this high definition movie formats without fuss? How to play Blu-ray on PC with Windows 8 system? This article will tell you the best way for playing/watch Blu-ray discs or Blu-ray ISO Files on Windows 8.
In order to watch Blu-ray discs or BD ISO on Windows 8, you must have three things: 1) a Blu-ray disc drive, 2) a Blu-ray movie, and 3) Blu-ray Player Software(Need decrypting Blu-ray function). It is this third one – software – that causes the majority of problems for Blu-ray users. The free player like Windows Media Player, VLC Player, etc don't have Blu-ray decrypting function and not support playing Blu-ray movies. So this Blu-ray Player for Windows 8 from UFUSoft will be the best solution for you.
Follow the following steps to Play Blu-ray discs or Blu-ray ISO movie and media file on Windows 8:
Step 1: Connect the Blu-ray driver to your Windows 8 PC via a USB connection. The USB of the driver should be above 2.0.
Step 2: Free Download the Windows 8 Blu-ray Disc/Blu-ray ISO Player and then install it.
Step 3: Insert your Blu-ray disc into the Blu-ray driver. Next, open your Blu-ray movie by just pressing the “Open Disc” in the main interface to select Blu-ray drive and then click "OK" button to load the Blu-ray directly. You can now enjoy your Blu-ray movies on Windows 8 PC.
Another option is to load Blu-ray folder, you can click "Open File" button to directly select the Blu-ray folder and click "OK" button, now you can watch the Blu-ray movie on Windows 8 PC.
Step 4: Stop the playing the Blu-ray movie on Windows 8. If you want to stop playing the Blu-ray disc, you only need click Stop Button and eject the Blu-ray movie.
    Tips:
    1. When you want to play the Blu-ray ISO image file, you need to load Blu-ray ISO image file to the virtual drive firstly, the open method is the same with loading Blu-ray disc.
    2. While the video is playing, click the "Snapshot" button to take a picture from a video. Click Open Snapshot Folder to find the captured picture. You can choose the snapshot format and the snapshot folder in the Preference window. And also you can choose the image format like JPEG, PNG, BMP.
    3. When playing Blu-ray disc, you are allowed to choose the specific title/chapter in the "Controls > Title/Chapter" column to play.
Hope this way could help you have no problem to enjoy Blu-ray disc and Blu-ray ISO files on Windows 8, more info please enter: Play Blu-ray disc/Blu-ray ISO on Windows 8 PC.

I am sorry to say that you cannot play Blu-ray movies on any Mac. Whether any of us agree or disagree with this, it is the way of things currently. One can rip Blu-ray movies to a Mac, and play them without menus or extras, but this is illegal and it is a violation of the terms of use of these forums to discuss.

  • Problems using 1080/50p video files in Premiere CS5 to Encore onto Blu-ray

Firstly apologies if this has been covered, I've searched various forums but not found anything on 1080/50p.
I have a Panasonic HDC-TM700 video camera which I only had for a week or so before I went on a weeks holiday in Egypt, so I thought I'd record my memories in the superb 1080/50p mode.
Upon returning I am now editing my work in Premiere CS5, the resulting video is very jerky (it plays back OK on the camera), rendering a sample in Encore I discover Blu-ray doesn't support 1080/50p so I tried the HDTV 1080i 25 setting, on the resulting Blu-ray the panning scenes are not smooth viewing and the video is still rather jerky.
Should I have recorded the footage in 1080 interlaced instead?
Does anybody know if I can salvage my memories?
    Hoping you can help
    Regards
    Kevin

I have the same camera, only it's NTSC so 1080p60. What I do for now, until there is wider acceptance for this format, is that I export to 720p60. I know I may sound like a party pooper but I prefer progressive before interlaced...  I am sure there will be support for 1080p50 or 1080p60 in the near future, so your memories will not be lost!
Some Bluray players do support 1080p60/50, but not from a disc but an SD card instead. If that's an option for you, go with that!
Here's the player I use which plays back 1080p60 beautifully from SD, I'm sure there is an equivalent player for PAL:

  • Question about custom PS menu in Encore CS6 Blu-ray project

I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere. My project is in Encore CS6 for Blu-ray.
Basically, I have a documentary about a group of friends taking a roadtrip around the country. The film is broken down by days, which coincide with different cities they stop in.
    For example:
    - Day 1 they were in Atlanta, GA
    - Day 2 they were in Tallahassee, FL
    - Day 3 they were in Jacksonville, FL
    - Etc
The problem I'm having is with the Chapter menu.
    Here's what it looks like:
The Chapter menu it's a map of the region with the cities they stopped in and a graphic of their route with a line to each city.
Across the bottom of the menu are the Days to select, ie Day 1, Day 2, Day 3. These are the buttons to select and are not part of the map.
When the Days are selected with the bottom buttons I also want the cities in the map to be highlighted as well. But I can't figure out how to do this? When I bring the menu into Encore it gets all screwed up with selections all overlapping each other, because it thinks both the bottom Day buttons and the map city highlights are both buttons.
Here's what is happening when the menu is brought into Encore:
I only want the lower Day buttons to be selectable, and when they are chosen the city lights up as a separate informational graphic (which is not meant to be selectable as part of the button, just to provide the viewer additional information, in this case a reference on the map of where they are on each Day).
If someone can shed some light on how to do this I'd be most appreciative.

When you put the red dot inside the button group for that button, you make it part of the button. That is the nature of the DVD spec. And the area of the button is defined by the whole rectangle the encloses all the elements of the button.
The problem with BigMan's option (which is the option) is that it won't work using a mouse on a computer - a mouse rollover doesn't trigger the selection of the button. It will work on a computer when using the software player's "remote."

  • Windows 8 Encore CS4 Blu-ray BSOD

I'm getting a BSOD in Encore CS4 when I try to build a blu-ray project. I have an HP laptop with an LG USB blu-ray burner. When I click build, even to build just an image, and then change from "DVD" to "Blu-Ray", there is a hang then a BSOD. My crashdump indicates that pxhlpa64.sys is the culprit.
This seems to be relevant, BUT the solution is to upgrade CS6 to new patch:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4672190
I'm up-to-date in CS4, so that doesn't help. However, it sounds related and I'm hoping that my copy of CS4 Production Premium is still supported.
My version of pxhlpa64.sys is 3.0.78.0. WU can't find any updates as far as I can tell. I have not installed any drivers for my LG BE12LU38 Super Multi Blue, but it seems to be recognized and there are no updates via WU.
    Here is my crashdump analysis:

For CS4 you must update the Roxio component http://forums.adobe.com/thread/400484

Right click the program icon and select Run as Administrator, which is NOT the same thing as running the computer with the Administrator account, and which fixes several "odd" problems... To create a two layer DVD (or a BluRay?), you MUST have Encore set to use the Run as Administrator option
    Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395
Also, for CS4, right click the program icon and see if Win8 has the same WinXP compatibility mode that is available in Win7
As far as support outside of this user to user group... I seriously doubt that Adobe will provide any help for a program that is 3 versions old, and which was written before Win8 was more than a Microsoft dream

  • Adobe Encore CS4, Blu-ray burning issues

    Greetings!
I'm trying to get some Blu-ray discs authored for a client and am running into a snag on the last 2 discs that remain. When it gets to actually writing to the BD media, it comes up with an error message (See screenshot).
This is starting to drive me up the wall as I've been fine all along with creating Blu-ray discs up until now, and I'm sure my client is getting anxious.
For what it's worth, I am using Verbatim DataLifePlus media, 25gb. As far as what I'm bringing into Encore (which I have been doing this method many times in the past with no snags whatsoever and getting great results), I'm using the Blu-ray M2V export option. There are no issues during the transcoding phase, it's just when it finally gets to actually writing to the media. I have created ISO's of the Blu-rays I'm trying to finish (Making the ISO files come out fine) and running into a snag using other software capable of burning disc images. With this said, what could be going on? Could my optical drive be kicking the bucket?
Also to point out, where it's telling me that there's not enough space, there is some remaining space.
An interesting thing to note as well, my write speed dropdown is grayed out (The media I'm using recommends 6X buring speed).
Any feedback would be hugely appreciated as I'm trying to get this job wrapped up.

If Ann's comment doesn't fix the issue for you, the most common workaround for this is to build to a folder and burn with ImgBurn (for PC) or toast (for Mac).
So what were the issues you ran into when you tried that.
I am sure you have searched this error, and you can see that there has been success in many situations. I do not believe that it is one problem.
I have generally believed that Ann is correct and that it refers to temporary storage on the hard drive. And users underestimate the amount of temporary hard disk drive space used.
Some users experience this error when they are creating dual layer BD disks, and a layer is more than 25G. Each video/layer must fit on one side.
And some users got resolution by reencoding to a lower bitrate (a 25G BD disk does not hold 25G). Encore uses padding to predict the size on disk (e.g. add 10% to the amount of space it predicts that build will use), and it can be wrong.
Always good to "run as administrator, though I don't know that ever fixed this issue if someone wasn't.

  • Encore CS4 Blu-ray Asset shows 00:01:00 upon Import?

    Hello,
I was wondering if anybody elase has seen this.  I make my mpeg-2 Blu-rays in Edius (CBR because Encore will not accept VBR without transcoding) and make the BD n Encore.
Every so often when I import a file it shows up as only one mintute in length even though Encore will show the correct file size and "don't transcode"
    Any ideas?
Also, why does importing and exporting (to folders) take so long when I am dealing with assets that do not need to be transcoded?
    Thanks

    Yes, 720p60 progressive.
This only happens about every fifth file I bring in.  So a lot work, only some do not.  But they work after I delete the 00:01:00 file and re-import it.
Am I getting over a filesize threshold?  This last file was 21GB and I can remember another being this large as well.

  • Is it possible to burn a SD DVD correctly from an Encore CS6 Blu-ray project and content?

    Hi all,
I shot and edited AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) square pixel video from a Sony NXCAM HXR-NX5U camcorder in Premiere CS6.  I then exported the 1920x1080 edited mpeg2 blu-ray m2v file for import into Encore Cs6.  Burning a blu-ray disc in Encore CS6 from this mpeg2 bluray m2v file is no problem and look great even with the default settings.
However, I also want to burn a standard DVD using the same HD Encore CS6 project without having to go back to Premiere CS6 and output a 710x480 mpeg-dvd file.  I thought i could simply select the dvd format under the build tab in Encore thinking Encore would handle all the necessary conversions to burn a 720x480 DVD but the menus look jaggy and the video does not play smoothly.
Is it possible to burn a standard DVD correctly from an Encore CS6 HD project and content, or is it better to have Premiere CS6 output a 720x480 mpeg-dvd file and create a new standard 720x480 dvd Encore project instead?
Acording to Encore Help, it says "You can build the same project to DVD and Blu‑ray formats no matter which format you select in the New Project or Project Settings dialog box. Encore makes the appropriate adjustments to transcode the elements to the correct format.", but i'm not convinced Encore is doing things correctly.
    Thanks.

    Jim,
I tried a variation on your suggestion.
I exported a new m2v file using the mpeg-dvd from Premiere CS6 as you suggested with "Use Maximum Render Quality" checked to get better scaling from HD to SD. I imported it into my Blu-ray EncoreCS6 project by using the "Replace Asset" option and changed the "Project Settings" authoring Mode to "DVD" leaving the HD menu's "Aspect Ratio" at 16:9.  I then built the disc using the "Build" tab DVD format and output settings.
    It worked!
The jaggies are gone (except for some motion jaggies) and the DVD plays well.
I suppose I could have done something similar within Encore but I'll test that some other time.

  • Encore CS5 Blu-Ray Preview Playback Issues / Authoring Issues

    Hello,
    I'm using Adobe Encore CS5 on a Mac Pro (Nehalem) 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon w/ 8 GB Ram on Mac OS X 10.5.8.
I've recently upgraded to CS5 after having no luck using CS3 to make Blu-Ray discs.  So far my experience has been a little disappointing -- it feels like they still haven't got it right.  Below is a list of my issues thus far -- perhaps some of you have run into similar things:
    - When importing MATROX encoded H.264 Blu-Ray files Encore CS5 hangs up.  I tried this with a 54 minute encoded file.  Instead I re-transcoded using the CS5 Media Encoder to the Main Concept H.264.  This worked fine, although the import still hung up for several minutes before anything made it's way into the project.
    - When I try opening my already existing project with a 54 minute video inside it hangs up and takes as long as 3-5 minutes to finally open successfully.  This seems to happen consistently.
    - After rendering motion menus and rendering them in the project the playback preview stutters.  It's very steppy throughout as the video plays in the background.  I even tried authoring a disc and playing it in a Blu-Ray player -- it did the same thing once authored.  I've tried re-encoding the video in Media Encoder and have found the problem persists.  Has anyone else experienced this with motion menus?  By the way, I'm transcoding @ 25mbps (max 30mbps) in the Media Encoder.
    - While trying to re-author my Blu-Ray the playback preview does not play audio on the main video when I click to play it.  I've tried re-importing the asset and previewing but this does not work.  I'm going to re-author the disc anyway to see if it plays right on the disc but can't understand why the preview doesn't work even if the Blu-Ray itself is fine (which it is).  I should add that the first time I authored this disc the audio was fine on the main video.  Preview was also fine.  So I'm not sure what's happening now - I haven't changed anything in the project.
    - Portions of my video on the authored video play back with slight stutter even though the source video (ProRes HQ QuickTime) does not.  Is this a problem with the Main Concept H.264 encode?  Should I try a 2-pass VBR transcode as another try (instead of 1-pass)?  My target bit rate is 25 mbps (with a max of 30 mbps).  That shouldn't be too high for a player to handle without stutter.  The stutter also happens in the same place every time so it makes me think it's the encode of the file itself that's the problem.
All in all these are mainly quirks about Encore that have begun to add up and frustrate me as a user.  It would be nice if these things just worked as they should.  But if anyone has ideas or can think of something I might be missing in all of this that would be great to hear.
    Thanks for reading.
    All the best,
    JD

As a follow up, I tried knocking down the number of chapters by 1/3 so there would be a total of 28 chapters instead of 41. As it turns out, the disc is still exiting the timeline and returning to the main menu at exactly the same point (which happens to be one second into a particular chapter of the timeline, just shy of 90 minutes into the timeline). It's as if Encore has split my single timeline into two timelines.
If it's of any help understanding what's happening, the entire timeline is 02;05;23;21 long. When Encore creates the Blu-ray disc, playback of the timeline ends at approximately 01;26;43;10. I then have to go to my Scenes menu and pick up where I left off as it's the only way to see the last ~39 minutes of the sequence.
As I mentioned, if I burn this as a standard definition (4.7GB) disc, it plays normally with no breaks. It's only if I burn it to a 25GB single-layer Blu-ray disc that I see the problem (using multiple Blu-ray players).
Thanks in advance for any light that can be shed on this problem.

Are you using an AVCHD file as a background video and Audio?  The AVCHD files are the cause of the issue.I think this is a known issue in Encore and is discussed in the below thread -

  • Exporting to Encore for Blu-ray

    Hi all
Couple of questions guys before I get stuck into some blu-ray projects
I have a couple of HDV projects that I want to get onto a Blu-ray disc. I have a burner and a test timeline went well - using /export to encore/ with default settings for MPEG2 Blu-ray / direct burn no authoring.
However, if I want to get a few projects on one disc I need to export manually and use encore properly. From Premiere AME I am not sure whether to use the H264-Blu-ray option or the MPEG2-Blu-ray. I assume in either case I set the size to 1440x1080 to match hdv?
Looking at the settings, I think I will get a smaller filesize using H264 and I just know its gonna take longer, but is there anything else to consider - will h264 result in better quality on end disc?
Now when I get to Encore, should I change default settings for new Blu-ray project to 1440x1080 - or leave at default 1920x1440. I understand I need to stop encore from re trancoding.
Any pointers would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    Mike

Thank you! I've made it to the transcoding stage! (So my fingers are crossed!)
I tried saving the original PSD files as new PSD files (as the original were temp files; which, in hindsight, might have been the issue, as I hear different drives tend to mess up Encore's transcoding process), then I re-imported the PSDs as new menus within Encore. Sure, I had to re-link all the chapters again, but it was made a lot easier thanks to Encore's "Auto-name (sic.)" feature that automatically detects chapter names. Thanks so much! I could kiss you. So many hours wasted trying to resolve this! I really hope I can get this prototype burned overnight!

  • Encore CS3 - Blu-ray authoring - video formats?

Does anyone know if we'll be able to use h.264 or VC-1 video formats for Blu-ray discs in Encore CS3?
I already own some software that's MPEG2 only but would prefer more flexability (Roxio's DVDit Pro HD)
Will you be able to do "pop-up" menus that you can have appear while the video is still playing?

Blu Ray is not as easy as some folks think.
Wait until you try to get these titles replicated.....you will find that only Sony can actually do the job.
To quote from our replication company - who talked directly to Sony as they wanted to get into this:
    >the Sony guy was very open about Blu-ray production and replication - basically he says only Sony has the resources and time to devote to authoring and mastering the Blu-ray materials and the up fron costs (starting at £20,000 up front before any disc is made) mean that this is never going to be something for anyone other than the biggest media companies to get into. At least, not for the foreseeable future.
And that is a direct quote.
Additionally, they are also saying that Scenarist is the *only* tool they will accept content from. Still trying to find out about HD DVD replication - it is a LOT easier & cheaper to do.
Another issue with Blu Ray is that BD-R, the recordable format, will simply not play on most set top players. only PS3 will play these.
Finally, of course, Sony are also lying about the sales figures, as they have included PS3 consoles in the figure for Blu Ray players, which is sophistry. Most people buy PS3 for games, not Blu Ray playback. True BRD player figures are apparently well under 20,000 total.
They are ALSO lying about Casino Royale "sales" of over 100,000
Most of these were actually given away for free, not sold.......

  • Encore CS5 Blu-ray Track Problems

I've burned my Encore CS5 project to Blu-ray several times now. It chiefly consists of a Main Menu, a Scenes Menu, and a single timeline containing around 41 tracks (only one soundtrack). When I preview the Blu-ray version within Encore, it works perfectly. Not so with the burned version.
When I play the finished Blu-ray disc in each of my two Blu-ray players (completely different brands) and move from track to track, I can't jump from track 28 to 29. In fact, when Chapter 28 finishes playing, it bumps me back to the Main Menu. The only way I can continue playing the disc is to manually go to the Scenes Menu and start playing from chapter 29 (which, of course, won't let me jump back to chapter 28). It's as if Encore has split my single timeline into two different timelines.
Furthermore, when I start playing from a chapter within the Scenes Menu, then press the Menu button on my remote, it takes me back to the Main Menu even though End Action is set to return to the last menu.
I know I haven't done anything wrong because if I burn this exact same project onto a standard DVD, it works exactly the way it's supposed to!
Is this some sort of Encore bug? Or is it a limitation of the Blu-ray standard (which I thought maxed out at 90-something tracks, not 28).
Can anyone offer some insight here? If it's an Encore problem, any suggestions on how to get around it without having to wait for an Encore patch (I'm fully up-to-date on my versions)?
    Thanks!!
