Anyone connected an Apple ADC CRT to Powerbook DVI, how??

I have my older 17" Apple Studio Display ADC CRT which I would like to use at home for extra screen space with my Titanium Powerbook which has a DVI port.
I bought the DVI to ADC adapter but have found out it ONLY works on the ADC LCDs and NOT CRTs. Crazy. So what connects these two together. I have seen many others in the Apple Display Forums with the same frustration but no solutions.
What gives? Apple abandoned connecting two of their own products which did overlap in time when sold.
Anyone else trying to do the same or are successfuly using these together?

I know your post is a bit old, but I'll contribute what I know anyway - You cannot use a DVI-ADC adapter with the ADC CRT because it is an analog display, and DVI by definition requires a digital signal. Therefore, neither the Apple adapter nor any other adapter can convert the signal from the CRT. It's outside of Apple's control. All of the LCD displays that are ADC use a digital signal, so they work just fine.
Apple only ever manufactured the one 17-inch ADC CRT, and only for about six months, so they're not affecting too many people... Unfortunately, you're one of them - and I have a beautiful, retired 17-inch CRT that I can't use with my PowerBook (Aluminum).
I got a 20-inch Cinema, and I love it.

Has anyone found a way to connect the brand new mac mini, either HDMI or micro to an older Apple display that has an ADC connector on it? Where to buy - the Apple store does not have their DVI to ADC adapter. Thanks.

You can't simply change the details.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)

  • Facetime will not connect - Anyone spoke to Apple regarding the facetime issue fix

Day four and still not able to connect with Facetime. Has anyone spoke to Apple regarding the status of the fix?

No...actually I have an iPad Air and my mother has an iPad 2.  I cannot connect to her on Facebook.  I did not catch what device it was showing when I started the discussion.  The problem started on Thursday and when you call her iPad 2, it rings and tries to connect but NO luck.  She has iOS 6 on her device.  It's as if Apple flipped a switch and stopped allowing some iOS devices to connect via Facetime.  I can connect with other iOS devices with my iPad Air.

  • Attempting to connect a Apple Laserwriter 4/600 to a MacPro.

    Hello.
I have recently obtained an AsantéTalk to help me connect my Apple Laserwriter 4/600PS to my MacPro which is presently running on OSX10.6.8.
Everything is correctly wired and connected but nothing seems to print. I have used both red and blue ethernet cables.
Please can anyone shed some light on the matter to get things printing please?

Support for AppleTalk-over-Ethernet to get to the AsanteTalk was dropped in a previous version of Mac OS X. 10.6 is "too new".
I use an old PowerBook G3 running 10.4 as to "Share" that Printer and a few others to the rest of the Network, and mine keep working. I think you can use a 10.5 computer as well, and just "Share" the printer(s) on it, which makes them appear as available on your network.

    im running OSX 10.7.4

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Can I use the Apple ADC to DVI adapter with a VGA monitor?

    Hey everybody,
I have a quick question. I work on computers fr friends and family as a hobby. I have an ADC monitor and need ot be able to hook up computers with a VGA port on them to it. Can I use the Apple ADC to DVI adapter along with an Apple DVI to VGA adapter to successfully connect VGA computers to my ADC display? I was assuming this would work and ordered both adapters but now I have made myself nervous about weather or not this will actually work. Has anybody out there successfully done this? Thanks for your help in advance everybody.

You can't run an ADC display with a VGA computer without a converter. Adapters won't do it.
a VGA to ADC converter will drive the ADC display directly

If you have the Apple DVI to ADC adapter
    <http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=18 72D402&nplm=M8661LL/B>
you could use it with a VGA to DVI converter
    <http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1310>
It might be cheaper to get DVI graphics boards for the computers and use the Apple DVI to ADC adapter.

Your title says "Can I use the Apple ADC to DVI adapter with a VGA monitor?". If you want to connect a VGA monitor to a computer's ADC port you need the ADC to VGA adapter
<http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1299> You can't use an ADC to DVI adapter followed by a DVI to VGA adapter, because the ADC to DVI adapter doesn't pass the analog video signals needed for VGA.

  • IMac receives message "Cannot connect to Apple TV" - Apple TV can see iTunes library and can mirror with iPhone.

    Hi all.
I have an iMac (mid 2011) running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 and an apple TV that my little brother just gave me (I believe it's 3rd gen from serial #).
I can successfully mirror my iPhone 4S with AirPlay, and the Apple TV can see the iTunes lib from my iMac, but when I attempt to connect to the Apple TV from the icon in the tool bar it gives me the message "Could not connect to Apple TV."
Spent some time on the phone with a really super tech, he had me go through the paces with restarting the router, the apple TV, my iMac, checked all the network config etc - no dice.
I even reinstalled OS X.... still no dice.
    Has anyone experienced this issue?
The second tech who called me back thought it might be hardware related. I brought this iMac in for a new hard drive less than a year ago after it randomly began throwing kernel panics and finally it just wouldn't boot. I don't do very much with my computer so it's kind of odd that it would have these issues unless there is something fundamentally wrong with the way it was put together. It doesn't take any abuse - not like my macbook!
    Thanks in advance.

Had my iMac taken in - RAM replaced & video card replaced. Able to mirror in the store. Restored my iMac with time machine backup and restored apple TV. Still getting the same message. Could it be some network setting I'm overlooking? I tried it while the apple TV was connected via ethernet as well - no dice.

  • Apple ADC to DVI Adapter -- Power Brick gets HOT

    Hello all,
I just purchased an Apple ADC to DVI adapter to connect my 23" Cinema Display to my new Mac Pro. It works perfectly, but I've noticed that the white, square power brick is generating quite a bit of heat. It feels sort of OK (within tolerance) at the edges but toward the middle it's noticeably hot. Not hot enough to burn my hands, or cook an egg, but definitely toasty warm. Is this normal? Or does it sound like I have a defective one?
    Alan

If by "on" you mean the adapter is connected to your display and plugged in to an AC outlet, and you have an image on your display coming from your computer, then it's not dead.

  • IPhone or iPad won't connect to Apple TV via Remote App

I am trying to connect to my ATV2 via the remote app on my iPad2 iOS 5.1.1 and a 3Gs with 5.1.1 and I can not get it to see my ATV2 at all. I have rebooted it and rebooted both the phone and iPad multiple times and it still won't connect. Funny thing is, I have a Galaxy S 3 and can use the AppleTVMedia app from the Play store and can connect to my ATV2 just fine!! Wouldn't it be eaiser for the Apple products to connect to Apple Products??? Anyone have any idea on what I can do to get my iOS devices to connect to my ATV2?

Figured out my Apple TV issue. It had to do with how I had it networked. I guess it doesn't like Ethernet over Power line anymore. When I have WiFi on the remote app works fine on my iOS devices. But when I plug in the Ethernet cable it doesn't see it on the remote app. I know its not my Ethernet over power line adapter because other things attached to it work just fine.
Gonna try and do a firmware update to see if that will help.

  • No Wifi connection to Apple TV (2nd gen)

My Setup: Apple TV connected by ethernet to a Sonicwall TZ 210 wireless router; Dell XPS running Windows 7 Ultimate. The Apple TV is connected via HDMI to my Pioneer SC-37 which is connected to my Panasonic TV. My wireless network is running WPA-PSK - TKIP security protocol. I do not want to lower this security standard any lower.
When connected using my LAN from my PC to my Sonicwall Router everything works perfectly. When I use my laptop PC wirelessly I loose connectivity with Apple TV and my iTunes. I spent a few hours with tech support from Sonicwall trying to resolve this issue unsuccessfully.
Has anyone had a similar issue they were able to fix? I welcome suggestions.

I suspect that since you are using a security protocol that is not natively recognized by ATV that you may have a situation where your WiFi LAN can't talk to ATV via the router. ATV? Apple doesn't get more complex than WPA2 and WPA2 Enterprise. If a reset of the ATV, or connecting it wirelessly...which works flawlessly for me doesn't work you might try on other thing, try an AC ethernet dongle like I use for my regular TV....... (Belkin, Best Buy and others) for ethernet connection of the ATV directly to your router, or call Apple Support before your time runs out. You could consider an Apple Extreme router since it is natively compatible...... I use this because i can set it not to broadcast the network name which i feel is the ultimate security and will work in combination with other protocols. Hope this helps.
