Anyone done a comparison between compressor & Squeeze 5 for h.264 output?

Anyone done a comparison between compressor & Squeeze 5 for h.264 output?

I'm not that concerned about speed, primarily interested in quality.
Intended delivery would be over the web, but also on an HDTV flat screen in a waiting room at best resolution (would H.264 be the best choice for that use?).
Source would be 1920 x 1080 24p ProRes 422 (recorded directly from HDMI using a humble Canon HV20 and an Intensity card).
As to the size, that's becoming less of an issue with bandwidth such as it is. 20-30% larger wouldn't make a difference to me.

Does anyone know the difference between the Applecare Warranty for the Macbook Pro and the Applecare Protection Plan Auto Enroll 607-8192-B APP FOR MacBook

AFAIK, the difference is that the auto-enroll occurs automatically when you purchase the device and you will have to disburse the cost right there and then. Whereas the other comes in a box, can be purchased separately later and you must manually enroll your device into the system to activate the additional protection. This must occur before the base one year warranty is over.
So, if you don't want to pay up at the moment you buy the computer, you can wait up to say 11 months and buy the AppleCare warranty extension later. Just be sure to complete the enrollment BEFORE the base warranty is over, else Apple will not honor the extension (all in the fine print). This applies to all devices that offer an AppleCare option: notebooks, desktops, iStuff, etc.

  • Comparison between Forms6i and Forms9i

We have some client/server-based applications built in Forms6i and are considering to convert/rebuild them into Forms9i or JDeveloper as web-based applications. Has anyone done any comparison between Forms6i and Forms9i/JDeveloper? Or, can you point me to such documentation if existed?
    Thanks.

For comparison between forms 6i and Oracle9i Forms check out the new features paper on:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms
Comparison to JDeveloper? How about the fact that you develop with Java language in JDeveloper and with PL/SQL in Forms.
I would suggest that first you try to run your application on the Web using forms 6i. This should be a very simple test to do. See how you like it and only then ask yourself if you really need to go to JDeveloper.

  • Campaign e-mail with unsubscribe facilty. Has anyone done this?

We may need to have the functionality to process and remove customers from future campaigns when we send out e-mails via the use of an unsubscribe feature within the e-mail. Has anyone done such a thing.
I looked for example videos in the CRM area. http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/crm-elearning?startindex=1

Still no news on this. I have been unable to find a solution, but refuse to believe that nobody has implemented this feature as Unsubscribing from e-mail is common-place nowadays.

  • Performance end to end testing and comparison between MPLS VPN and VPLS VPN

    Hi,
I am student of MSc Network Security and as for my project which is " Comparison between MPLS L3 VPN and VPLS VPN, performance monitoring by end to end testing " I have heard a lot of buzz about VPLS as becoming NGN, I wanted to exppore that and produce a comparison report of which technology is better. To accomplish this I am using GNS3, with respect to the MPLS L3 VPN lab setup that is not a problem but I am stuck at the VPLS part how to setup that ? I have searched but unable to find any cost effective mean, even it is not possible in the university lab as we dont have 7600 series
I would appreciate any support, guidence, advice.
    Thanks
    Shahbaz

    Hi Shahbaz,
I am not completely sure I understand your request.
MPLS VPN and VPLS are 2 technologies meant to address to different needs, L3 VPN as opposed as L2 VPN. Not completely sure how you would compare them in terms of performance. Would you compare the performance of a F1 racing car with a Rally racing car?
From the ISP point of view there is little difference (if we don't want to consider the specific inherent peculiarities of each technology) , as in the very basic scenarios we can boil down to the following basic operations for both:
Ingress PE impose 2 labels (at least)
Core Ps swap top most MPLS label
Egress PE removes last label exposing underlying packet or frame.
So whether the LSRs deal with underlying L2 frames or L3 IP packets there is no real difference in terms of performance (actually the P routers don't even notice any difference).
About simulators, I am not aware of anyone able to simulate a L2 VPN (AtoM or VPLS).

  • Performance comparisons between POF & open source serialization mechanism?

I'm curious whether anyone has done any comparisons of performance and serialized object sizes between POF and open source mechanisms such as Google Protocol Buffers and Thrift, both of which seem to be becoming quite popular. Personally, I dislike having to write a separate schema and then generate classes from it, which Protocol Buffers and Thrift require you to do, and I vastly prefer POF's mechanism of keeping everything in the code (although I wish the POF annotation framework was officially supported). But aside from that, I'd prefer to use Coherence for many of the purposes that some of my co-workers are currently using other solutions for, and this would be useful information to have in making the case.
FWIW, I hope someone at Oracle is seriously considering open-sourcing POF. I don't think that anyone who would've bought a Coherence license would decide not to because they could get POF for free. They'd just go and use something else, like the aforementioned Protocol Buffers and Thrift. Not only are many companies adopting these as standards, but as has been mentioned in other threads on this forum, that's exactly what even some Coherence users are doing:
Re: POF compatibility across Coherence versions
I really wish I could to encourage developers that I work with to give POF a look as an alternative to those two (both of which we're currently using), regardless of whether or not they plan on using Coherence in the immediate future. As things stand right now, I can't use Coherence for code that needs to be shared with people in other groups who haven't adopted Coherence yet. But if I could use POF outside of Coherence, it would probably be acceptable to those folks as a generic serialization mechanism, and it would make migrating such code to Coherence at some point down the road that much easier. If, on the other hand, I have to write that code around, say, Protocol Buffers, then it becomes much harder to later justify creating and maintaining POF as a second serialization mechanism for the same set of objects, which means it's much harder to justify using Coherence for those objects.
In short, making POF usable outside of Coherence, and who knows, maybe even getting it supported in popular open source projects such as Cassandra (which, as I understand it, uses Thrift) would make it easier to adopt Coherence in environments where objects are already persisted in other systems.
    That's my two cents.

    Hi,
Thank you for links. It is very interesting.
I have implemented POF serialization plugin for this benchmark http://wiki.github.com/eishay/jvm-serializers/
You can get code, run benchmark for yourself and compare result.
    Handmade POF serialization http://gridkit.googlecode.com/svn/wiki/snippets/CoherencePofSerializer.java
    Reflection POF serialization http://gridkit.googlecode.com/svn/wiki/snippets/CoherencePofReflection.java
Also you should put a two line in BenchmarkRunner.java, all other instructions are on jvm-serializers project page.

    * Micro benchmark is a micro benchmark, I saw quite differnt results then comparis java vs POF vs POF reflection on own domain objects.
    * POF score very good compared to protocols like Protobuf or Thrift, especially on deserialization.
    * Kryo project is quite interesting, I'm going to give it a try in next project for sure.
Again, thanks a lot for a link.

  • Comparison between Purisma and JCAPS?

I am researching several CDI (Customer Data Integration) solutions and I've narrowed this down to two solutions Purisma and JCAPS. I am mainly comparing the matching engines, record linkage efficiency and any machine learning capabilities.
Has anyone done a "head-to-head" comparison between JCAPS and Purisma?
Does anyone have any screenshots of the JCAPS record linkage tool for manual duplicate handling?

Has anyone done this update? Is this update worth it? what are the main features of this updates?

What version are you on now ? If you are on 5.1.0 then the update to 5.1.1 is very small - from here :
Improves reliability of using HDR option for photos taken using the Lock Screen shortcut
Addresses bugs that could prevent the new iPad from switching between 2G and 3G networks
Fixes bugs that affected AirPlay video playback in some circumstances
Improved reliability for syncing Safari bookmarks and Reading List
Fixes an issue where 'Unable to purchase' alert could be displayed after successful purchase
If you are on an earlier iOS version then you will get the intermediate updates as well e.g.

  • Comparison between PeopleSoft and Fusion

    Hi ,
I need to prepare a document to show up the comparison between PeopleSoft and Fusion. For eg: Business Unit in PeopleSoft and what is the concept in Fusion that is similar to Business Unit. Can anyone help me with a document that will give me detailed comparison between PeopleSoft and Fusion.
    Thanks,
    Fathima Farsatha

I can't find any comparison on the internal database.  Can you add more about your goals with the question?  Are you stuck with a Business unit issue or functionality.  Since Fusion was built form the ground up it is a completely different software product.  If you have a very specific question then we might be able to collaborate with different groups and provide an answer or fix.

  • Questions on the comparison between Oracle Forms and Oracle APEX

    Hi All,
The link below presents information about Oracle Application Express for Oracle Forms Developers, the table at the end of the page shows a comparison between Oracle Forms and Oracle APEX, all the points of comparisons are clear for me except 3 points which are:
•Locking, what is meant by locking models?
•Database Connections, what is meant by Synchronous/Asynchronous connections in Oracle Forms and Oracle Apex?
•Architecture, what is meant by 2tier and 3 tier connections?
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/apex_for_forms.html
What I need is a simple explanation for these points without deep details.
    Thanks

    Hi
That is how I understand that document:
Locking: Forms, by default, locks a row as soon as the user starts modifying the data. That is pessimistic locking. Apex, on other hand (and optionally forms also) do not lock the record, but before applying any changes checks if the data has changed since the user queried it (what for some reason is called optimistic "locking")
DB connections: I am not sure why they used the terms synchronous/asynchronous, but the difference is that Forms, by default, keeps an permanent DB connection while the user is using the application, while Apex gets a connection from a connection pool every time a page is requested/submitted.
Architecture: Forms (in its web version at least) has 3 tiers: the browser, the appserver where the forms service runs and the database. As Apex runs inside the database, there are only 2 tiers: the browser and the database (though you still may need an http server in between which serves static content, I don't think it is considered part of the application in this context). If you are talking about client/server forms, then there are only 2 tiers.
    I hope this helps!

  • Speed Comparison between Quadro FX 5800, 4800, 3800

Question: Speed Comparison between Quadro FX 5800, 4800, 3800
Both Adobe and Nvidia technical support said they do not have speed comparison benchmarks on the same Windows 7, 64 bit computer for both rendering and encoding between the Quadro FX 5800, 4800, and 3800. Does anyone know of such speed comparisons. Thanks in advance.

I just had a new computer built using a 6 core AMD processor and 16 gb Ram, cs5, etc.  Is it possible for me to apply your benchmark and how would I do it?

  • Tune2fs reserve space?? Anyone done this?

I came across this nice article from TuxRadar: Command Line Tricks for Smart Geeks
    http://www.tuxradar.com/content/command-li...cks-smart-geeks
I read this and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this:
    Reclaim disk space
Filling a partition to 100% can have an unpleasant effect on your system. When services and other programs cannot write to their log files, or cannot save data in /var, you could be in trouble. These programs won't be able to save their data, and typically quit out (or, in some extreme cases, crash dramatically!). To avoid this, the ext2 and ext3 filesystems reserve 5% of their capacity for only root processes to use. This is a good idea, but 5% is a lot on large drives - for instance, it's 25GB on a 500GB drive. Also, there is no need to reserve any space on a filesystem not used for root files, such as /home.
The good news is that not only is this 5% not hardcoded into the filesystem, it can be changed on the fl y without disturbing the your data and files. Tune2fs is used to tune various parameters of an ext2 (or ext3) filesystem. It can be used to change the volume label or the number of mounts between forced execution of fsck and a host of other, more esoteric settings, but the options we are interested in here are -m and -r. The former changes the percentage of filesystem blocks reserved for the root user, while the latter uses an absolute number of blocks. So:
    tune2fs -m 2 /dev/sda1
reduces the reserved area to 2% of the filesystem, which may be more appropriate for if you have a large / or /var filesystem. If you're using a drive of 500GB or larger, this is the best option.
    This line of code:
    tune2fs -r 0 /dev/sda1
sets the filesystem to have no reserved blocks, a good setting for /home that doesn't need a reserved area for the superuser.
My root partition is only 20gb but my home partition is 718gb, I thought doing this would be a good ideal since going by the article I probably have like 40gb of reserve on my /home partition. The problem is I have all my data on this partition and do not want to risk loosing anything even though I have most of it backed up. So I was wondering has anyone done this before?
    Thanks

Yep. I did it on all of my external drives, but I came to experience some weird behaviour ( can not recall exactly what is was now) when I changed from 5% to 0%.
Try 1% - works nice for me.

  • I am trying to generate a 50kHz sine wave for ten cycles, then aquire this waveform and store it in a file, I am using a PCI-Mio 16E-4 board, has anyone done anything like this?

I am trying to generate a 50kHz sine wave output on the DAQ card and then simultaneously recieve. I am using a PCI-Mio 16E-4 series board to do this. Has anyone done anything similar. I can generate a 50k wave no problem, and recieve one, but I can not get these vis to run together? Any suggestiosn

Jrod, yes you should be able to do this, actually there are quite a few example programs come with LabVIEW that handles simultaneous analog input and output, I check the specs of the board you use, the board should be able to handle the sampling/generation rate, but make sure for 50KHz sine wave, you would sample at least twice as fast, preferably ten times the generation rate, then this puts the sampling of the board to thew limit.
The program you can try is attached here, good luck with the application,
