Anyone else furious about the $30 upgrade charge?

So...I now have to pay for the privilege of buying a new phone? This just burns me. What's next...a charge to pay my bill? I have been a Verizon customer for 20 years and I am mad enough to buy out of my 4-line contract on principle alone.

It is common knowledge, though, that T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint all have upgrade fees. In the industry, I imagine those are the only carriers that really matter. The interesting part is that VZW is NOT the highest in the industry (interesting only because they are usually the most expensive on every front).

Does anyone else think that the AppleMac group of products are marketed in a greedy way? I have MacBook Pro 10.5.8 with Leopard and am now told that I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard so that my system can download the relevant iTunes upgrade to sync my new iPad and get my audiobooks (which don't appear anywhere on the device right now). Of course there isn't enough memory on the MacBook and Snow Leopard costs more also? I don't have financial resources to pay for all the new memory requirement and related upgrades they say I need just to sync my iPad with my purchases.

Thanks for the reply but I already knew this. $20 for Snow Leopard which asks for 5gb free memory. I can only see that I have 4 gb (which I feel is rather a pathetic amount of available memory for any computer). To upgrade this computer's memory will cost another fee (I haven't researched this yet but gather it's more than $20). Then of course I could also be told that the OSX Mackbook Pro that I have can't be memory upgraded - which means I'm being told to buy a new computer - hence my very frustrated last email. I have been given a lovely iPad 2 as a present and now can't sync at all with anything because of this ongoing upgrade nightmare. How on earth am I going to be able to sync my movies, audiobooks etc to this new device??

Just wondered if anyone else is experiencing the following problem and knows a solution. I know a few friends who are also having the issue so its obviously something wrong with IOS7.
Basically I have an iphone 4 and upgraded to v7 and most recently v7.0.2. When I am on calls the phone started to beep and vibrate and sometimes change the call to speaker. It seems to be that the screen is sometimes active whilst on calls and so my ear is actually pressing the buttons and hitting numbers or changing it to speaker phone. It has also cancelled a call a few times.
This is extremely annoying and makes every call a worry.
Any ideas of how to solve this problem?

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

  • Is anyone else nervous about receiving a defective itouch after reading...

Is anyone else nervous about receiving a defective itouch after reading all the negative feedback by a lot of people, im hoping that since there all week 38's now the issues should be resolved.
My question is, if im shipped a defective product, how to i get a refund, or at least a new itouch, do i have to pay to ship it back, and then wait for a new one?
im in canada and ordered on the 26th, and did expited shipping, and it says it won't be here till the 8th-15th

The serial # is printed on the back. If you receive a week 37 iPod Touch from Apple I would leave it sealed in the box and return it to the nearest Apple store for a refund. My understanding is that if it's sealed you will not get charged a restocking fee.
Then proceed to purchase a week 38 unit when you can find one.

  • After upgrade on OS and Safari 7.1 I can no longer do 2 finger scrolling.  Anyone else find this bug in upgrade?

After upgrade to 10.95 OS and Safari 7.1 I can no longer do 2 finger scrolling.  Anyone else find this bug in upgrade?  If so, ideas on how to fix it?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Anyone have  information about the publicised Free 3 month trial of iCloud for attendees of the Sydney Presentation held last wednesday?

I last purchased product at the release of cs3 and was not allowed to register the software 'because I had had it too long' ... yes, I had several episodes with the Big C and Adobe didn't honour their sale obligations ... should take the case to the Ombudsman ...

If a customer has purchased an earlier full version of product Adobe ought register that product so that it can be use. I purchased product and the tech who looked after the registration which enables you to use the product would not enable the software for use because there was a lag between purchase and request for activation.
Your comment about contacting whoever made the offer of access for attending the presentations is what doesn't make sense because there appears to be no way of contacting the organisers.

  • Does anyone else feel that the iPhone is sluggish after update 1.1.1?

Is it just me or does anyone else feel that the iPhone feels more sluggish after update 1.1.1? I haven't unlocked or hacked the phone in any way and so it must be due to the update. I thought that the sluggish behavior could be due to a recent update and so I reset the phone. But I still feel that the iPhone has lost that responsiveness that it used to have before. Any one else experiencing this?

Yes, without question I thought typing, especially, was sluggish at first. However, after a day it has seemed to speed up and now, I'd say, is back to original performance, or close to it.
Also, I have lots of contacts (2500), and the phone has been very slow to make the first identification of email addresses when I start typing. Specifically, it freezes for several seconds after the first letter is typed. However, I believe that process is a bit faster after this update.

  • I just bought the Otterbox Ipad2...anyone else interested in the new bulletproof case?

...anyone else interested in the new bulletproof case?

I have the defender on my iPad 1 and it will keep your iPad much more secure than any other case I have seen.
It does, however, add over a pound to the iPad and that is just too much for me since my 'home' doesn't usually bounce around much. The smart cover coupled with the clear Xgear rear cover is enough for me.
If Otterbox comes out with a reduced weight 'commuter' case for the iPad 2 I will revisit the issue.

  • Is anyone else dissatisfied with the new lollipop upgrade?

I'm frustrated with the lollipop change to silence (mute) phone procedure!  And also frustrated that I can't find any DETAILED description of the upgrade changes to my phone and how to access/use them.  Anyone else?

I am incredibly upset with the lollipop and kitkat upgrade. I had a brand new S5 I bought in February. When the first time I upgraded it the phone started to have issues. It was only 2 months old. It would lock up continuously, overheat, delay or not even send out my text messages until the phone was hard reset or rebooted. I even did a factory reset on the phone and the problems still existed. My contacts would throw an error as well and need to be shut down.
I went to the my local Verizon store and told them my issues with the phone after the upgrade. All they were able to do was send me out a refurbished replacement phone while the phone is under warranty. I think that if the phone needs to be replaced that at least you should receive a new phone instead of a refurbished one. Especially seeing that I had absolutely no problem with the original phone until i updated it with lollipop and kitkat. the old phone was never dropped or damaged in any way. it even had a life proof case on it!
I currently have a "new" refurbished phone from Verizon. and it came with the original OS on it. I have refused the updates now for 2 weeks. and it seems as if the phone is acting up a little bit after every time I refuse to update it. But it still is nothing like how the other phone acted after the update!

  • Anyone else seeing that the "turbo" charging isn't so turbo?

My Droid Turbo is just over a month old, and the battery seems to be an issue already.  Using the supplied Turbo charger last night with nothing running took almost 3 hours to charge (Nothing "Turbo" about that!!!), and then it is discharging WAY sooner than I would have expected - today I used the device VERY lightly and saw it drop to 75% in just over 2 hours.

Thanks zellerandy.  Makes sense...I suppose I succumbed to marketing, buying a pretty shiny thing without adequately understanding specs.  So far I'd say the Turbo fails to deliver on its ad campaign.  And looks like I need to actively manage battery users (like having a screen bright enough to be able to read it).  Now I'm kicking myself for not just getting the iPhone.
Also have had a couple of abnormal, unprompted reboots.  Each time, the settings revert from network date/time to device date/time.  That one has me stumped too.

  • Anyone else apprehensive about buying now?

I currently have an iBook G4, and I'm planning on buying a PowerBook this January. I love my little iBook, but it's got some problems (the battery life is seriously 10-15 minutes so I'm always locked to my power cord, and I can't view PDF docs no matter what I try.)
Anyway, I'm looking forward to a new spiffy computer, but I'm apprehensive because of the imminent Intel switch. Apple claims they'll support PC chip macs for several years, but that doesn't ease my fears.
I'm torn between buying "all the computer I can afford" (which I didn't do last time) and buying a computer I will think get me through the next 4 years or so. Anyone else share my concerns? What did you decide?

Erin, If you feel the need to wait, you will still be waiting this time next year as well.
Believe me there will not be a problem changing the chips to Intel.
If you are going to get a New Computer, just go out and get it.
Remember, Apple will always be upgrading and updating, as long as they are in buisness as will all computer manufactures..
This is known as Technology Advancment, and there is nothing any of us can do about that. We will never know WHEN or WHAT will be on the Horizon for changes, sometimes they will pre-announce but rarely.....Don

  • Does anyone else think that the new update 5.1.1 drains battery life faster than 5.1?

I charged my phone to 100% last night and unpluged it last night before going to bed. 10 hours later, when I got up, my battery had went down all the way to 68% and with no apps running in the background... All while my iPhone's currently running on IOS 5.1.1. I never had this problem with IOS 5.1, when the battery would only drop to around 97% overnight.
    Anyone else having this problem?

With Phone, Messages, and Setting apps active and
Celllular data enabled, my AT&T 64 gig, 4S drops about 4-5%
overnight.  Which is about what it was with 5.1.
So, I personally have seen no change in battery performance
and when using the phone I haven't seen any difference either.

  • Has anyone else noticed that the iOS 6 Maps App is missing the area code for many places it has listed?

If I try to look up a local business on the Maps App it drops a pin on all of the locations matching my search parameters. However, when I get details about a dropped pin, the phone number is usually missing the area code! For example, if the phone number is +1 (123) 555-5555 it would show up as +1 (555) 555-5. This makes it impossible to call directly from the maps app or to copy and paste infront of a manually entered area code (because of the '+1'). Has anyone else noticed this?

Have you checked to make sure that your region settings are correct?
