Anyone else get more than 4 defective MBP in a row?

I purchased my first Macbook Pro 15" in July right when Lion was released.  It's my first Mac.  I customized with 500gb/7200rpm and8gb ram. And then my Mac drama began and is still going on now. 
MBP #1 (purchase #1 late July) - DVD did not work. Froze a few times.  Saw lots of beach ball dancing. Black screen of death and did not come back on for a day.  To top that off, apple care would not help me because they did not have record of my serial number. (purchased directly from apple.com only days ago) I spent the first few days with my first MBP reading apple discussion board and mac forums to learn to fix problems with my new $2k computer.  After several attempts and many hours, I was told by apple care supervisor they missed a batch of orders which did not get properly transfer to apple care.  I was very new to apple computers and did not want to deal with so many problems for new computer.  I did not want to wait for replacement (they ship out after receiving your return) so I purchased a second MBP.
MBP #2 (purchase #2 early August) - Software worked fine. The trackpad was sluggish and sometimes got stuck.  I felt this right away after powering on first time.  After a long wait (it takes a while to get through to apple care), I finally got a voice at apple care and we tried a few things (reset hardware, reset p rails?, etc.), I thought the trackpad was fixed. I surfed the net and then the scroll acted up and the cursor kept freezing.  Annoying.  It drove me nuts.  I had to return it.
MBP #3 (purchase #3 early September) - This one arrived dirty with some small scratches, and there was black finger prints and smudges on it. One thing that bothered me was the top lid is not flushed with the bottom piece. It’s slightly flapping over on the top left side.  But otherwise, the computer works with no problems. I called apple right after opening the box and after 2 hours (they kept transferring me between apple care and sales support), I finally got a supervisor.  He was nice enough to listen to my situation. I asked him frankly if he thought I should just keep MBP #3 after all the debacle (at this point, the top lid hanging over the bottom was minor to me) and he thought I should go for replacement because I purchased new MBP and the top lid should flush perfectly with the bottom. He suggested that I purchase the off the shelf versus custom to avoid problems but I explained that I wanted the faster hardrive and multitasking speed. And he contacted their sales support to coordinate a replacement. It took an hour but he did call me back and arranged the replacement.
MBP #4 (replacement) - This came a few days ago. Physically, this MBP has no flaws. Top and bottom piece flushed perfectly. I noticed when I used the trackpad, I felt like there were tiny grains of sand on my fingertip.  I washed my hands thoroughly.  Trackpad still felt different than previous MBP so I cleaned it according to apple forum suggestions.  Computer worked fine...until...I surfed on it for a few hours and my finger tips started to tingle and feel numb and super sensitive at the same time.  After a few more hours, my hands felt funny and slightly numb.  The next day, my fingertips still felt slightly numb and sore at the same time. I searched up the mac forums and changed the power plug to the 3 prong.  It got better but still felt tingly.  Weird thing was that it was doing this even on battery.  I called apple care and we did some hardware test and resets...didn't change.  He scheduled an appt with Apple technician at the Apple store for next morning.  Apple technician did some test and said he couldn't feel anything on the trackpad.  I explained that I felt this after a couple of hours of use.  Between the tingling on my fingertips and numbness on my palms (I tend to rest my palms on the mbp when i type), I am feeling uneasy about keeping this one.
So within one and a half months, I have been through 4 MBPs and came to the conclusion they all have problems.  Apple customer service is okay (it takes 20-30 minutes just to get a live voice and then they tell you to speak with apple care first before they can issue return authorization).  The apple care, sales support, case number issuing dept, and customer support transfer you between depts like they don't know who actually handles returns.  A few of the reps I spoke with had no idea why I was being transferred to them.  At this point as you can imagine, I have spent many hours on the phone with apple as well as in store.  I really like the MBP but not sure how much more I can take.  I never return anything and don't like dealing with hassles.  I have been through over 10 PCs (half the price) and they never had problems when I first got them.  Will be talking tomorrow to apple about MBP #4 again.  Any thoughts?  Please, any advice would be much appreciated.   

I honestly don't know anyone who has had as many problems as you. Are you purchasing directly from Apple?
Having used PC's for over twenty years, I can tell you that currently, Mac's are worth every penny. I find them far more reliable (Mine have never failed - I previously had a 17" MBP, a 13" MBP, and the original MBA) , their are sleeker, lighter, and sturdier.
Also the OS is so much better! I am productive 10/10 hours a day. People tend to look at price a lot, but I think time is valuable too. I find everything so much more efficient and intuitive.
Everything has been designed so much better (especially the OS). Also, the experience is brilliant. I can just do whatever I need to efficiently.
If Apple maintains this level of quality, and is so much better than its peers, it is unlikely that I will ever switch back.
Also, all the products just integrate so well together.

    Just as the subject says, I was wondering if anyone else getting more than 24 hrs on their rentals? So far I have gotten to play my rented movie for over 24 hours. I checked and the file is still on my hard drive. I assume I am not continuing to pay for this movie, but who knows?

    It happened to us with the only movie we've rented so far. I had been fooling around with the iMac remote trying to figure out why I couldn't start the movie with that, when iTunes crashed (a first for me!!). So the next day when I discovered the countdown timer was off, I assumed that crash must have affected the time stamp on it. The movie stayed around for at least 48 hours after we first started it, then disappeared as expected.

  • Please help with settins. I have Cox w/ 25mbps but can't get more than 18 mbps with EA4500.

    I have Cox broadband and I am using a Motorola Surfboard 6141 modem.  When I connect the ethernet cable (cat5) directly to my computer and run a speed test I get 25 to 32 mbps consistenly, but when I connect my EA4500 and run the speed test, I consistenly get 18 mbps.  I have reset the modem and tried different channels with no luck.  For some reason the router seems to be capping the speed at 18mbps.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    There is a need to check if you have the latest firmware installed on the router. Try changing the router’s IP address to 192.168.2.1 or 10.10.10.1 to further isolate the issue; Motorola modems at times have the same IP address range with the router causing conflict. Please try to disable all Firewall and Anti-virus software installed on your computers. You can also try to set the MTU to 1365. Do you experience this problem on the both wired and wireless computers connected to your router? Knowing this information can help you to further isolate the problem.

    I did.  When I got it back from Rma, I didnt notice the box, i paid more attention to puttin it back in my system so I could be playin again. Last night I noticed it said "128mb DDR3" on the box. So today, I found a program to determine specifications and sure enough, I've got GDDR3 memory.  I guess that explains why I can get it up to 350/950. Just curious, did anyone else get GDDR3 on there 6800nu?

    I was trying to get more than one account on iphone microsoft exchange server for mail, but it seems to only accept one. Is this true with everyone else out there. I guess I am one of the few people with more than one email account that uses microsoft exchange. I would love to have the convience of accessing them through iphone mail but it seems that I will be forced to use safari for the other two by typing owa... in the url.

    Yu can only have one Exchange Server account per device. This is true to iPhone and any Windows mobile device in the market. The work around is to set your other accounts that reside on an Exchange server using IMAP or POP settings as you used to do before the Version 2 update allowed you to sync directly to the Exchange Server. This methode will allow you to add as many accounts as you want or have.

  • Adobe Web Gallery- can't get more than 10 images to show up

    I am trying to create a Web Gallery from within Bridge (CS4), but I'm not having any luck getting more than 10 images to show up when I create the Gallery, even though I'm selecting nearly 50 images (all in the same folder) that I'd like to be in the Gallery. Does anyone know if there's a limit to the number of images that can be used in an AWG? I can't seem to find ANY documentation that sheds light on that subject. All I know is that no matter WHAT I do, I can only get Bridge to create a Gallery with TEN images!! Very frustrating. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Assuming the obvious that in Bridge content panel you have selected all the
    files you want in the web galery
    First try a purge cache for folder using the menu Tools/purge cache for
    folder when having Bridge pointed to the problem folder.
    Second try a reset preferences with option key while restarting Bridge.
    I wish that were the case - it's only outputing up 10 images...

    That said, Javascript which fails in Safari usually is something that is non-standard since Safari makes a genuine effort to follow http://www.w3.org/ standards. If you encounter a website that doesn't follow these standards, point them to http://www.anybrowser.org/ for guidance on making more uniformly compatible websites. In the meantime there are many other web browsers made for Mac OS X like Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Omniweb, Camino, Internet Explorer, Opera, and iCab. If you find a website that doesn't behave well in Safari, use the Report bug to Apple in the Safari menu. There is a Safari Enhancer which has a User Agent submenu in the Debug menu it enables. That same Debug menu can be enabled from Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal via this command line:
    defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
    The User Agent specified will spoof certain websites into thinking you are using a different web browser. In the end though, it usually is better to inform webmasters when their website is not accessible.

  • Cannot Get More Than 3 Wireless Connections

    Howdy, I have a Linksys WRT54G v8. I can't get more than three wireless connections established to the router at a time. Is this a known limitation of the Linksys hardware or am I experiencing a novel problem. I've changed frequencies and switched from mixed mode to G only in order to resolve the problem but these have not made a difference. Allowed number of DCHP users is set to 50. Any suggestions?

    In theory, your router can support up to 32 wireless users.  However, since the 54 Mbps bandwidth is shared, the practical limit is much lower, but should be more than 3.
    How many "4th" computers have you tried to connect?  What exactly happened when you tried to make the connection?   Did you turn off the wireless computer's software firewall before you tried to connect?   Is the wireless computer setup to "Obtain an IP address automatically"  and  "Obtain DNS server address automatically" ?  What wireless adapter(s) are in the computers?   Please give all details of computers that failed to be "number 4".

    Many FireWire hard drives have 2 firewire ports so that you can daisy-chain devices and connect the camera that way.
    Daisy-chaining is not the most reliable method, but it works, so you could buy a FireWire hub.

    You can use the iPod in Disk mode and copy the outlines in their native format (Word?) and put them on your own computer.
