Anyone else have problem with DVD player not working since 10.7.4 update

Tried to put digital copy of movie onto computer last night and kept getting error message about the disc wasn't supported. So tried one I already have on my computer and got same message. This is first time I've tried doing this since I updated. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't work...
To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does it work in the new account?

Does anyone else have problems with the new macbook pro trackpad?

I exchanged my new macbook pro last week because there was a major trackpad lag. Every time I put it to sleep and woke it up, the trackpad would delay 5 or more seconds. I took it in to the Apple store and they said it could be a software issue and I exchanged it. However, I just opened up this one up from the package today, and there's still a lag. Does anyone else have problems with that? I don't want to exchange it again, so is there something I can do?

Also, is it mandatory to run software updates when you first turn on your computer?

Here's the problems I'm having with iPad 2 and iOS 5.1:
Okay ... so, because I had less than a 1 Gig left (as reported by iTunes) on my 64Gig iPad, and the majority of the space was being used by "Photos" ... I decided to not keep my PC photos directory in sync with my iPad (Windows 7). So, in iTunes, I unchecked the option to sync computer photos to the iPad. I got the standard popup warning message that my iPad would not contain those albums after the next sync. I clicked OK and proceeded to sync expecting to have lots of space freed up.
But weird things happened after syncing.
(1) I still have all my photos on my iPad .... nothing disappeared at all. (And performed multiple syncs to try to force the change ... still nothing has been removed from my iPad.)
(2) Somehow, I gained 20 Gigs of free space, as reported by both iTunes and my iPad as well.
Anyone know what's going on here?
I do have iMovie and another movie making app, Avid. Both of these contain projects that refer to photos in albums that were supposed to be removed after the sync ... but I can't imagine that would keep them there. Anyone have any ideas?
I also installed the iPad app, iPhoto. I noticed that it build a directory listing and continuously want to update that listing from time to time.
Would any of these things cause the iTunes photo sync changes to be ignored? And, how did I get free space to report back with an additional 19Gig or so, when there's no change at all.
Unsure what's going on ...

Installed iTunes 10.3.1 on Mac and then all tunes vanished from my iPhone 4. I hooked the phone to the Mac and Synced them together and everything returned to iPhone. Next morning the problem was back. I had to delete iTunes and reinstall an older version from my Time Machine backup. It now appears to be working. Has anyone else had problems with this?

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod/Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. I searched the web , but couldn't find anyone else with the problem I am having , I'm using a 2.4 GHz i5 macbook pro , downloaded the beta for messages but lost facetime camera it displays this message (This computer does not support video chats.) i just can't get it to work properly with messages.

As I intimated Messages can either Invoke FaceTime for Video Chats with those people (Contacts) that you can iMessage.
It can also do the iChat Video.
If your Buddies only have iChat then you have to have a Screen Name if you don't already have one.
I will state this another way as well.
In Messages beta menu > Preferences > Accounts you have at least two "Accounts" once you have entered your Apple ID
One of these is the Bonjour option (Runs a Buddy list like iChat used to - see Window Menu if Logged in)
The other is the iMessage account (your Apple ID)
It is possible that your also have some iChat Accounts from before and these may be listed.
They could be AIM or Jabber Logins (And both those type are effectively sub-divided)
If you do have other Accounts and they have the tick box in "Enable this Account" then they will appear in the Window Menu as a list with Keystroke listed next to them.
These can be used to dispaly the Buddy Lists much like iChat.
By default though they care gathered in to one list (See the Preferences > General Section for Unlinking them)
@mac.com and @me.com ending names from Apple are valid AIM login names (Some people may find an MobileMe issued @me.com account does not work if it has run out).
Facebook and Google Mail IDs are valid Jabber IDs (Providing you enable the "Talk" or "Chat" option in the relevant Account Settings.
If your Buddy logs into AIM with their Valid name then you should use a AIM valid name.
If they use a Jabber valid name then you use a Jabber valid name.

Does anyone else have problems with retina screens? My eyes are constantly hurting and my eyesight is getting worse in a short period of time.

I've been using high quality retina screens for about nine months now and my vision has gone downhill quickly. I got my first ever prescription for eye glasses and my eyes are constantly strained. High resolution screens also cause other problems with my normal work flow as a web designer but that is a whole other topic.

try turning down the brightness, If i even have it past half way my eyes hurt. maybe it'll help

Anyone else having trouble with flash player over working the processor since the security update?

Since the last security update (flash player version 11.7.700.169) I have been having trouble with flash player beating the daylights out of my processor. My OS is Windows XP. This only happens on some sites, not all. For example netflix and amazon are fine, but acorn and huffington post videos send the processor into overdrive. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I have XP on some machines, and I do not experience any such problems with 11.7.700.179. If I were, I would try two things

update to the latest Flash Player beta, or wait until the new version is released later this week

Is anyone else having problems with their battery life after IOS 7.1 software update?

After the software update IOS 7.1, my iPhone 5 battery life has been terrible. I've turned off all push notifications and location services (basically everything that would affect the battery life). I've done an optimization test and have restored my iPhone and lowered my brightness. My phone has been standby for 5 hours and it's at 54%. Before IOS 7.1, it lasted the entire day before it even hit 50%. I just wanted to know if anyone else is having the same issue. I really don't know if it's the software or the battery itself.

Mines fine, I did a hard reset after the update and with both bluetooth and wifi and celluar data on I am geting slightly better battery life on my iPhone 5s. right now Im at 83% with 1 hour and 24 mins useage and 1 day 14 hours standbye. Siome apps leach battery life so check whats using background app refresh and notifications, apps like facebook and also GPS useage suck your phone dry quickly.

Does anyone else have problems with built in website url links in a PDF not working in iBooks?

I have several magazine PDF files that have lots of website url links built in to them.
When I click the links when viewing the PDFs via iBooks they often don't work.
However, the exact same PDF when viewing/clicking using other PDF apps like GoodReader work perfectly fine.
Nothing else is different except which app I am using to view the PDFs.
Anyone?

It would appear iBook app doesn't support hyperlinks except within a document.

Does anyone else have problems with iphone chargers breaking?

I got my Iphone 5 in feburary. Since then I'm on my fourth charger. This is just insane. I am the proud owner of every generation ipad, 1 macbook, 2 imacs, 3 ipods, 2 apple tv's and obviously iphones. The iphone seems to be the only thing that breaks expect i had to spend $70 replacing the macbook charger once. My question is am I the only one having this problem. I talked to a couple people who had the same issue and even switched phones because of it..
Today I was out spending another $20 on a cord. When I say break I mean you need to hold the charger cord in a certain angle for it to charge.. Apple needs to address this issue and come up with a new cord design.. My tracphone cords still work from 7 years ago...

I'm not having problems. However, if the basic troubleshooting steps outlined in the user guide (restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new) fail to resolve your issue, then you have a hardware problem and you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation.

Anyone else had problems with some photos not uploading recently?

I've been unable to transfer all photos from the desktop on iPhoto to the iPhone. It's never been a problem until this last import. They uploaded from the camera with no problem, just wont go onto iPhone. Any ideas?

Since Lion, cannot see NFS shares anymore. Folder that had them is still threre but the share will not mount. Worked fine in 10.6.

Since the NFS points show up in the terminal app, go to the local mount directory (i.e. the mount location in the NFS Mounts using Disk Utility) and do the following:
First Create a Link file
sudo ln -s full_local_path link_path_name
sudo ln -s /Volumes/linux/projects/ linuxProjects
Next Create a new directory say in the Root of the Host Drive (i.e. Macintosh HDD)
sudo mkdir new_link_storage_directory
sudo mkdir /Volumes/Macintosh\ HDD/Links
Copy the Above Link file to the new directory
sudo mv link_path_name new_link_storage_directory
sudo mv linuxProjects /Volumes/Macintosh\ HDD/Links/
Then in Finder locate the NEW_LINK_STORAGE_DIRECTORY and then the link file should allow opening of these NFS point points.
Finally, after all links have been created and placed into the NEW..DIRECTORY, Place it into the left sidebar. Now it works just like before.
