Anyone else having consistently slow 4g in seattle's north end?

I live in Bothell, Wa in zip 98021, and work in north Seattle, zip 98105. The 4g on my HTC one is absolutely horrible, ranging on speed tests from .5 mb to .75 mb download at any time of day in any area I go to.  Are others experiencing this, too? It is useless to pay the high price for a data plan when I can't do much online! I am wondering if t mobile is faster in this area?

Hello,
Thanks again for the response.  To clarify, when I am doing these tests I
have wi-fi turned off, connected to the internet via the 4G connection.
Often times especially at home, I have to turn off 4G and turn on wifi to
get a decent speed, since the 4G is often so incredibly slow.
The phone is an HTC One, it is sealed with no removable plates or anything,
so as far as I know there is no SIM card to remove.  I have restarted the
phone in an attempt to troubleshoot this issue with the same results.
I have been doing more testing, and finding that when I am at work, when I
turn on 4G lately at the more off hours (such as at 6:30 AM) the 4G is very
fast- getting over 25 MB.  However at my home when using 4G I have never
achieved speeds anywhere near that- and consistently during the more busy
times of day (late afternoon and evening) the speeds are very slow, at 1MB
or less.  Sometimes if I test at home later, such as around Midnight, I
will get higher speeds of 3 or 4 MB, but that is as good as I have seen
through 4G at my home- and again that is only during the more off hours
when the towers would seemingly be less busy.
Could it be a signal issue in the area?  Could the tower in the area be
overloaded at peak times causing this kind of slowness?
Thanks again for your time!

Anyone else having EXTREAMLY slow broadband tonight?
I've been through to the help desk twice, both of the times, them doing nothing but "change the wireless channels" which they havent because upon checking them on the hub page, they are the same...but hey ho.
After multiple restarts, hard reboots, soft reboots, wireless connection, wired connection, all devices in the house hold are running at an extreamly slow pace on the internet
a ping to google is bring up a response time of 4000ms...the help desk say they are resetting the "connection profile" at the exchange which is going to take 48 hours...

  • Anyone else having DSL slow down in Queens (zip 11366)

Only getting 800 to 900k when I have a 3MB plan. This is regular Verizon DSL and not FIOS. It has been going on for at least a week but maybe longer and I just didn't notice it.
Verizon thinks there is a problem with the line but in the past this has happened, it was always some sort of line slow down on their end. Last 2 technicians that came here for similar problems years ago did nothing except waste time. The guy was actually checking to see if my computer was infected with virus. The problem was never solved and it went away after awhile.

If you're on 3MB plan and geting only 1.01MB, we're both having similar problems. I don't have a phone problem but I am using a landline though.
When I called Verizon earlier, there was a recorded message with service problems in BK. BK and South Queens are very close. It could be related to that.

  • My iphone 4s voice dictation for text messages is not consistently working. Sometimes it works, other times after the dictation it just gives me a blank space. Anyone else having this problem?

My iphone 4s voice dictiation for text messages is not consistently working. I've had the phone since Thanksgiving and it always worked perfectly, but the last few weeks it's been hit or miss. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Anyone else having this problem? I tried the hard reset but that hasn't fixed it.

I have the same problem since updating to IOS 8.3. Any app to which I want to send a new link via IMessage does not allow me to select a contact to send the IMessage to. Using a pre-existing thread does not have same problem.

  • I have been using Firefox for many years now and really like it, now the version 4 is extremely slow, anyone else having the same issue?

I upgraded to version 4 last week and find it extremely slow compared to the previous version - like so slow that some pages do not even load. I have downloaded and gone back to version 3.6.17 and everything is back to the normal I have known for years with Firefox and it is really fast again...so now I know that there is nothing wrong with my computer and that the supposedly very very fast version 4 is much much slower than the previous version 3.6...so what gives? I'm not keen on going back to the new improved version 4, though I know it will not be supported soon...anyone else having the same issue?

Having the exact same problem here.
    -Mac OSX
    -3.6 worked great
-I tried the 4 beta, got rid of it because it was so slow
-When it upgraded to 4 is VERY slow and freezes often
-Appears especially slow on sites with flash (ie http://www.bbc.co.uk/news)

  • Since installing OS X Mavericks photoshop runs so slow I can hardly use it....anyone else having this problem?

since installing OS X Mavericks photoshop (CS6) runs so slow I can hardly use it.  Is anyone else having this problem?

The post above is only partially true. There are many people that have install Mavericks over the top of a older version of OS X and haven't experiences any problem. Then of course there are others that have experiences many different problems.
Do you have a Time Machine backup from before you installed Mavericks? If you do, and you should, you can restore your system from that TM backup and then do a clean install of Mavericks on either an external drive or a second partition on your internal drive then use the Setup assistant system to copy over your setting files and apps from your older OS X version. You can then TEST that clean Mavericks install for any compatibilty problem before you commit to it totally.

Had same problem on my iPad2 with the original 8.0 release.  I ended up wiping it completely clean and doing a reset and restore from backup.  That seemed to fix my issues.  I had the same problem when 7 came out and did the same wipe and restore to get everything working well.

  • Purchased my computer just before new ones came out in Oct. It runs slow and shows Gray screen sometimes when I open it. Anyone else having this problem?

I have a new but 2010 model. It operates very slow and has gray screen occassionaly. One store said it's "safe sleep", the other graphic board. Is anyone else having this problem with computer only 4 mos. old?

Your problems may be caused by software or hardware, including the gray screen and the slowness.  The intermittent gray screen is a puzzler and probably is hardware.   TUSL2C’s diagnosis may be right on the money.  A question is how to isolate it to HW or SW that so you can get good service?
The obvious cheap and easy fix is to replace that cable but I don’t think you can do that  because it is under warranty.  There are other ways to isolate the problem that won’t void the warranty.
If the disk turns out to be healthy and it continues to boot to a gray screen then that will be a sign that internal hardware, other than the disk, is to blame.  Since they are blaming it on software we will be able to test it with a pristine OS X installation that has no 3rd-party software to blame.
    > They are calling it "Safe Sleep Mode" and that happens if I don't use the machine within 4 hours.
The machine should go to sleep and wake up almost instantly every time without a gray screen.  If you can demonstrate the problem reliably by putting it to sleep and waking it up then that will be most useful.  We will show it failing on pristine OS X software without 3rd-party mods to prove it is an Apple problem.  Similarly if you can reliably show the gray screen from a power-on boot that will help.
My first question is do you have a current Time Machine (or other) backup?  If not you should create one before we get to steps that could stress the disk.  If it is a faulty cable or a faulty disk then the system could stop functioning at any time.  It is always prudent to maintain a current backup and especially important when the system is sick.  If you do not have a Time Machine (or other) backup then post back for instructions on how to create one.
In the mean time please download and run Etrecheck and post back the results.
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
This will indicate possible software compatibles and other details that may be helpful in a diagnosis.
Also run disk diagnostics with Disk Utility.  This will check if the disk and filesystem are healthy.
From the Finder, pull down on the Go menu to Utilities.  This will open the Applications > Utilities folder.
    Then run Disk Utility.
Click on the upper left disk icon.
Does the S.M.A.R.T. status say “Verified”.
If not the disk/SSD is unhealthy and needs to be replaced.
Click on the icon indented below, usually called “Macintosh HD”.
    Verify Disk.
If it finishes with a green “OK” message then all is well with the disk.
If it shows errors in red then you may have found a problem.
    Click on Repair Disk Permissions.
It will give lots of messages in black and white, which are OK.
If it gives any messages in red then there is an issue to address.
It will be useful to have some test that shows the slow speed that uses standard OS X applications such as Pages, Numbers, Presenter, iTunes, iMovie... or even just the Finder opening windows or starting applications.  We can then use that test when isolating the source of the slowness.
How many seconds does it take to boot from power-on to either the login screen or the Finder is up?  Please time that.  It is a good speed test.  If it is over a minute then something is wrong.
One way to isolate the issues will be to sandbox it using another disk to test what happens with different software on different hardware disks in different locations.  That will not void the warranty.
But before going there or proceeding further let’s look at the Etrecheck and Disk Utility results, ensure the system is backed up, and then try some other standard tests.

It will help people help you better if you post your iMac variant and Mac OSX version. Please do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and, in the resulting window, click the "More Info" button. That will give this window:
The model is in the line I've indicated with the red arrow. Please also post the results for "Memory" and "Processor."
DO NOT post the serial number, however.

  • Is anyone else having problems with the Canon Online Store?

In the last month or so, I've had one problem after another with the Canon Online Store; from being unable to delete items from the shopping cart; to not being able to add "in stock" items; disappearing Wish Lists; and just now, I tried to add one lens cap to the 6 or 7 items I already had in the Shopping Cart, and they disappeared.
I've called, more than once, and I've written, also more than once, to Canon Support about this, but they ignore what I tell them, and tell me there are no problems with the Online Store.  They don't even seem to report to anyone that anyone has complained, because each time is "the first time", even though I've called (more than once) and written (more than once) to them about continuing Online Stores problems.
Is anyone else having problems with the Canon Online Store?
Why does Canon not care to track reported problems with the storefront part of their web-site?
I'm not trying to insult Canon, it's just that I've been a Canon customer for less than 3 months, and the're only batting .333, so far.  Canon Support was very quick to respond about a concern I had that a 50mm f/1.4 I had just purchased was authentic or not.  In trying to register that lens, I looked up on the Canon web site where to find the serial number.  Since my new lens did not have any numbers there, I was concerned I had been sold a fake.  But, then Canon Support sent me link to a different online document that showed a few different places where it might be, and there it was.
Is Canon like that with other problems, as well?  Or is their "batting" average better than my very limited experience?
I just love my Rebel T5i, and my Canon lenses (from "the Kit brothers of the Cropped Frame coral":  EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM, and EF-S 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM; to the "Truly Nifty Fifty", the 50mm f/1.4 USM, [the f/1.8 is just a "thrifty fifty"], and finally, the "Super-Macro" MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1x-5x Macro)!

    Hi Danny.  Thanks for replying.
I only use my desktop PC to access Canon's web site, and I've been using Mozilla Firefox for years.  And, yes, it is the latest version.  Since Canon REFUSES to support the use of Firefox on it's web site, WHAT BROWSER DOES CANON SUPPORT?  WHEN did Canon STOP SUPPORTING Firefox?
I've been told that there are 2 pending orders in my account.  Yet, I NEVER placed those orders!  WHY CAN'T CANON SEE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM???
Instead of off-target suggestions, and pasted boilerplate REFUSALS TO EVEN LOOK at this issue, I would prefer it if Canon went "old school", and FIXED THE PROBLEM, in the first place!  But, maybe that's a bit too grown up of an answer for you!
"Award-winning" support???   And, just exactly WHAT AWARD did Canon "support" WIN for CONSISTANTLY IGNORING REPORTED PROBLEMS???  The OSTRICH?
Please pull your head out, and FIX this problem, OR YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!!!
Thank you for your "prompt" attention to this matter!

  • Is anyone else having bug issues with InDesign?

I'm trying to do homework with the version I purchased, and I keep running into bugs. Everything is extremely slow. When I scroll, zoom, and move an object, the program keeps skipping on me. When I place an image from Illustrator, there are other paths that show up that were not on the original image. And with those same images, the strokes and fills are all read as red slashes. They should be question marks since they are a combination of paths. And lastly, when I try to use the eye dropper to copy the color of a placed image, I get a popup saying, "Image is a vector graphic. Eyedropper values based on low resolution RGB proxy."
I think there might be some bug in InDesign, and it's really hard for me to work. It can't be my computer. I have Illustrator as well, and that one works fine despite scrolling speed. So is anyone else having these problems, or might there be something wrong with my version?

    I use CS6 on Windows 7.
My default interface preference was set to Live Screen Drawing: Delayed. I tried changing from that, it was the same deal. I have noticed though, that performance is a lot slower when Display Performance under Object.
For the extra lines showing up, I can't seem to find that same problem again, so I can't use a screenshot.
SRiegal, I don't get what you mean by copying the colors. If you say that InDesign cannot copy the color of vector graphics, then how can I recreate them not knowing the exact values?

  • Anyone else having trouble with their iPad disconnecting from wifi since 6.0.1 update

Anyone else having trouble with their iPad dropping wifi about once a week since 6.0.1 update?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Is anyone else having issues with Aperture 3 since downloading Lion?

    Hi All,
Is anyone else having issues with Aperture 3 after downloading the Lion update? Aperture 3 is running so ssssslllloooowwww !!! I am a sports photographer who needs this to run the way it used to with Snow Leopard. Any suggestions?????
    Thanks,
    George

It was one of the many issues I had when I was running Lion. I watched the beach balls and the very, very slow rendering of image edits and restored back to my SL clone immediately. It was looking like Aperture 2 and my sanity just couldn't take that again.
I have to assume that Apple must have tested Lion with Aperture 3, but you wouldn't know it from how it behaved on my system.

  • Send Invitation Inactive/Not Working in Member Center.  Anyone else having this issue?

When I try to invite a developer to our organization's Apple Dev Portal, the 'Send Invitation' link is inactive.  I also tried the bulk invite where the button appears to be active but does not respond when clicked.  Is anyone else having this issue? I submitted a bug report last week and haven't heard anything.

    Hi 2themax11
Still no update from PA Networks - it is like they are in total denial that Mountain Lion exists!
The Cisco app works but only just and is very slow, i think that may be more to do with us than the use of the app. Bear in mind we used to use the Cisco service and so it is not something I had to set up from scratch but it is not something our network team are happy about as this service was buried and was not supposed to be supported any more.
I am also using a Cisco SSL webvpn for accessing our intranet etc. it is a quicker fix for a few things. Like you I am now using 2 laptops...one is an old Dell...it is horrible!

  • After my heatsink replacement...anyone else having this problem?

I just got my Blackbook back on Monday after getting the heatsink replaced due to RSD's (as an aside, Apple's turnaround time was blazing fast, I was without my computer for only 5 days). The RSD's are gone thankfully, but my computer is running noticeably slower. I only have 512MB of RAM, but I am getting the Rainbow Beachball when I try to do simple things like open Firefox. I'm a student so I'm not running anything major like Photoshop, Microsoft Office is the biggest program I use. Often I cant be on instant messenger and Firefox at the same time, and certainly not with Office running unless I want to wait forever.
Is anyone else having this issue? Would simply upgrading my RAM (which I plan on doing) fix the problem, or is there something else that may be sapping my processor?

Upgrading the RAM is going to make a significant difference. I wouldn't hesitate, if I were you - at least 1GB. If you plan later to go to 2GB, get a 1GB chip and throw it in there with one of the 256MB chips. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
EDIT: Oops... forgot the other part of the question. Are you running anything else in the background (like Dashboard with a whole bunch of widgets)? Check the Activity Monitor (Applications > Utilities > Application Monitor) to see what's running and taking up your system resources.
