Anyone else having trouble with the latest version of QT with Lion upgrade?

latest version of QT is refusing to open or play files in their native size. Example: 720x480 files being opened as 853 x 480 with no option to change playback size. I'm forced to open in QT v7. ugh

latest version of QT is refusing to open or play files in their native size. Example: 720x480 files being opened as 853 x 480 with no option to change playback size. I'm forced to open in QT v7.
Are you sure the file is supposed to play at 720x480?
1) 720x480 are the dimensions commonly used for anamorphic encodes of NTSC MPEG-2 or DV compressed video. The content can be either widescreen (16:9 at 853x480) or full screen (4:3 at 640x480) aspect ratio material. The real question here is whether or not the file was anamorphically encoded. Normally this is obvious when watching the file. If people look normal or circular objects are round at 853x480 then the file is anamorphic and playing correctly. If people look somewhat fat and circular objects look more like an egg on its side, then the file is not anamorphic but is "flagged" or contains a value telling the player to scale the display width of the file during playback. Since it is more common for anamorphic files to loose their width scaling values then for such values to suddenly appear in the file, it is mor likely that the file is now playing correctly in the QT X Player but plays incorrectly in the QT 7 Player.
One of the main differences between the QT X and QT 7 players is the method by which they play the content. QT 7 displays a file using dimension embedded in the file and ignores the PAR value. It doesn't care if these dimensions represent the original source content aspect ratio or any value a user chooses to embed in the file. On the other hand, QT X ignores the embedded display dimensions and instead plays the file at its encoded height with the encoded width scaled using the embedded PAR value. For a file to play correctly in both apps, the file must contain both types of embedded data. In most cases, it is easy to tell when an anamorphic file is correctly coded since the "Format" line will contain both the anamorphic encode dimensions and the display dimensions if the file was properly transcoded as an anamorphically file.
Example: 720x480 (853x480)

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

My current iTunes program version 10.6.1 keeps telling me there is an update but when I try to load it the information box goes away and nothing happens.  I have tried downloading the new version from Apple web site but it brings up a warning screen of " iTunes setup.exe is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer." I select the action of run anyway and get the next error "iTunes Setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application."  What Gives?

  • Anyone else having trouble opening CMYK PDFs from Photoshop CC with JPEG 'high' compression?

(Cross-post from the Photoshop forum, where I was asked to post in the Acrobat forum: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5553829 )
When I save a PDF file in Photoshop CC in CMYK color with JPEG compression (quality = high), it will save without any errors. However, when I open the file in Acrobat (11.0.3), I get an "Out of Memory" pop up error. I press Ok, and the document is just displayed as a blank white image.
I'm using Win7 64-bit, Photoshop CC 64-bit. Plenty of memory (24GB) and allocated RAM in preferences, and I've done some troubleshooting that leads me to believe the error is not due to system memory, but rather a specific bug in the software. I have Photoshop CS6 on the same machine, and if I open the PSD, save as PDF with the above settings, everything is fine when I open it using Acrobat. This seems to just be for Photoshop CC, not CS6.
Here is the troubleshooting I've done so far:
PDF format, RGB color, any other settings --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, no compression --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [medium] --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [high] --> Acrobat can NOT open the file because it encounters the "out of memory" error.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [maximum] --> Acrobat can open the file.
This is silly. I don't get it. Can anyone else confirm this problem for me?
    Updated:
Like you said, there isn't enough information to rule out an issue with Photoshop CC, as the same action using Photoshop CS6 results in a usable file.
New information (while making files for uploading):
The error only occurs with CMYK files of larger dimensions. On a 500x500px image, Acrobat throws out "A drawing error has occured". a 2500x2500px image runs into the "Out of memory" error. In either case, Acrobat cannot successfully open the file generated by Photoshop CC, while it can if it was made using Photoshop CS6.

Another observation for what it is worth (not a solution again). I was able to open all 3 PDFs in Irfanview as graphics. The properties of the image were
The major changes for the others within the JPegs was the number of pixels (133X133) and the size (1.4inX1.4in). There is also a reduction in the number of colors.
Just for information, I opened the big JPeg in Acrobat (9.5.5) and it opened fine. However, it looks like the color space was changed as shown below:
Even if I change the input to use CMYK and not RGB, it looks like it gets converted to RGB. I haven't spent time to figure out the preflight analysis properly, but at least this may give you some info back.

  • Anyone else having trouble stopping the spam from Apple?

Ever since I upgraded to Lion and signed into the Mac App Store for the first time, I've been getting junk mail from Apple every few weeks.  Every message says, in tiny, gray type at the bottom, "If you prefer not to receive commercial email from Apple, or if you've changed your email address, please click here."
Every time I get one, I "click here", and give it the e-mail address that it sent the message to.
Every time the website assures me that I've been unsubscribed from all commercial e-mail (but might take 10 days to have an effect).
But despite these promises, I'm still getting spam from Apple.
Has anyone else had this problem, or is it just me that Apple is perpetually lying to?

    MobileMe or iCloud accounts?

  • Is anyone else having trouble activating the 5s?

I've followed all prompts numerous times, yet I cannot complete. I've called and go through all prompts again, and in the end it says error. what do I do?

I purchased through apple. I recieved the phone this evening. I plugged it in (like i've done to activate my last two) and followed the promts. I input billing zipcode & last four digits numerous times because it would pop up on my computer. I would fill it in, and then it would pop up a minute later on my phone itself. finally after maybe the third time, it carried on with the activation. I restored settings from my previous phone, and then my iTunes alerted me that i needed to download ios 7.1 so  I did.
All this time I am sending out texts on my new device, but come to find out they're being sent from my email, and not my phone number. So I check my old phone and that one shows missed calls.
I cannot call from my new phone. It says "the call you are attempting to place is not allowed from this line. Please dial customer service at 611"
So then I do that. Input all the same crap I've done already, just to be told when I am "finalizing my activation" that there is an error, and something along the lines of "need more time."
But when I connect my phone back to itunes it appears as though it is activated, but its not.
Please help!! My previous phone is the 4s and my computer is a macbook pro purchased 2 years ago if that makes any difference.

  • Is there an issue with the latest version of FF with HTTPS requests and Proxy authentication?

I'm currently working inside a cope network behind a proxy, which requires authentication.
When browsing to websites externally to our network I would usually only be promoted once for authentication details; after that I would never see the prompt again until after restating the browser.
However after the latest update I've found that when visiting HTTPS sites I'm promoted for my login details. But even though I enter the correct information the prompt does not take the details and continually asks until eventually our proxy closes the connection (usually with my account now being locked).
My other browsers (IE, GC) work fine without problems.
    Any ideas?

It could be a regression in Firefox 18 that wasn't present in Firefox 17. The developers are known nowadays for including too many experimental changes and my bet is one of them is causing this.
But to confirm, could you downgrade back to Firefox 17 and still see if it works well with proxy authentication?

  • Anyone else having trouble exporting the grid effect to QuickTime?

Other transition effects convert to QuickTime correctly but grid is a mess! The black grid background does not show up and the different slides appear oversize and overlap. Any ideas? I'm using a theme from Keynote Theme Park with photo cutouts.
    PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Keynote v 3.0.1

Solved the problem! The grid effect is in Keynote 05 but not Keynote 06. I started the document in 05 and converted to 06 recently. So, while Keynote 06 recognizes the effect and allows me to use it - even on new slides - it does not know how to export it. Keynote 05 exports it fine.

I got my new iPhone4 on 6/28.  I have it attached to my iTune account and during the synch the software is attempting to update (4.2.6 to 4.2.8).  I accept the T&C and the download starts and takes between 6 and 8 minutes.  Just before it completes I get the following error message "There was a problem downloading the software.  The network connection timed out - try again later (652.7MB of 652.8MB stopped (err_ -3259).  This has happened several times to me now.  How can I get this fixed?
