Anyone else NOT going to update to iOS8?

While not everyone has had things become horrible after updating, many have, and for me, my phone works just fine as it is. I don't really need the extra features and am quite happy to leave it as it is for now - why fix what ain't broke?
Unlike updating to Yosemite where I could at least create a system clone in case there were issues, I can't even return to iOS7 should I feel a need to, and that, coupled with how many have had issues with something that clearly wasn't ready when released, is part of what makes me feel like waiting before doing anything.
Anyone else feeling fed up with Apple clearly spreading themselves too thin and releasing updates that instead of enhancing our experience are frustrating it?

The other thing I wanted to add, which Apple could allow so as to give people peace of mind when updating, is to be able to make a complete clone of the system like they can in OS X. I know they don't won't people not to update to the latest and greatest, but this is not about them it's about us, the user. Better to be able to roll something back that works, than have to live with issues that should not appear just because of having updated something Apple say is ready.
But then in a way, the phone is never really ours, it is always theirs, and they allow us to use it as they see fit.
I love Apple products and have been a total Mac user for many years, as has the rest of the family as a result of me. Yet I've never been a gambler, but feel like I'm expected to become one with how things might turn out. I've never had a problem with any Mac update because I know what I'm doing and make sure our computers are in good shape before upgrading. I can't do that with the phone. I shouldn't have to feel this way.

  • Anyone else not able to update your iPod's software version

my ipod touch software is 4.2.1, the 3rd gen and i want update to the new version, 4.3. but it says my ipod is the current version. anyone else have this problem?

Most sofware can only go so far with Backwards compatability. OSX Mountain Lion will not run on Power PC macs for example although they work perfectly fine on what they are using.
Windows Vista is not backwards compatible with the machine you run XP on due to Hardware limitations
The Same is true of iPods and iPads. I cannot use the new features of IOS 6 on my iPad 1st genersation.
The limitation is hardware if these updates were given to older devices they would either not run or be very slow.
This I am afraid is normal no matter who the Software manufacturer is.
What you have to ask yourself is Does my current Hardware and software do what I need or do I need the fancy new stuff that was not around when I made my original purchase. If so then yes you will need to buy a newer version.
If not stay as you always have been and enjoy your device as you thought you would when you bought it.

  • Has anyone else noticed that Software Update is not requiring a password to install updates?

I noticed this started after the 10.6.6 update on all my Macs.  Anyone else experiencing this?

The whole point of the password is to prevent software from installing without the user or admin definitively accepting that it is ok to do so.
Actually, it is to give access to areas that you don't normally have access to, and in the case of updates coming straight from Apple and installed from an admin account, it has been deemed safe not to request a password.  I believe those updates are verified by the system somehow, so they cannot be malicious unless someone hacks Apple, and then you'd still think nothing of giving your password anyway.  There's no reason to ask for a password in this case.
I understand this.  It protects the "protected" parts of the system.  But I still think that you should have the last say even if Apple is as trusted as they are.  At the end of the day it is still your computer.  I deal with hardware that requires firmware and software on a regular basis, and just because the company says it is ok to do an update, does not always make it appropriate to do so.  A lot of times it causes more harm then good.  There have been several cases (like iPhoto) recently where you may want to hold off on an update, and allowing all the packages to install in a bundle without a password opens you up for potential issues.

anyone can come along in your house and run updates without your knowledge
If you've got untrusted people using your admin account, you have bigger problems than someone installing an Apple software update without your knowledge.  If you are security-minded, you don't do that, and thus this issue becomes moot, and if you're not security-minded, then the issue is moot because you don't care enough to secure your computer.
Perhaps that read different from how it was intended to sound.  My intention for that statement was not to suggest that I do not fully trust my family, but rather that they may not know what they are doing.  Surely you have someone in your family that comes to you for computer advice?  The password was an added security feature that gave me piece of mind from one of those "I don't know what just happened all I did was..." moments.  If I wasn't security minded, do you think I would waste my time expressing an opinion about a security issue?

this opens a door for OSX to automatically add these updates in the future without your consent as long as Apple deems them appropriate
Don't you think that's a little paranoid?  Why would Apple do that?  Microsoft tries to copy Apple, not the other way around.
Actually no I don't think it is paranoid.  I do agree that Microsoft copies Apple in every which way they can, and I am a 100% non-Windows household.  I simply see this as a potential pitfall that Apple has opened up.  Even though I do love, admire, and trust Apple, at the end of the day they are a business, and in such a decision could be made to "protect" its user base by allowing OSX to automatically add any updates they deem necessary whenever they want in order to "protect" the perception of their product.  As I stated above, not all updates are wanted right away.

  • Anyone else not able to print a return label in MyVerizon?

Ordered a phone 9 days ago and it's not working out.  Directions in the box say to go to verizonwireless/printlabel to print the return label.  When I click the Print Label button I get 'Error - Service not available.  Please try again later.'.  Anyone else have this issue?

No I don't look for would, could or should in the links information.
If that is the policy written by Verizon then that is what it is.
Could a store make an exception? Could. Will they, maybe or maybe not.
I have been with Verizon way back to the time of Bell Atlantic and I never in my experience returned anything back via online mail shipping. I always use the store for my phone purchase.
The official policy is at the link I gave. No wishing it away is going to make a store take the phone there versus sending back via return label. If that was the case everyone would be going to a corporate store to return devices. People are not doing that.
    Good Luck

  • Anyone Else Not Get New Message Indicator in the Messages Section of the Menu Screen?

I have been on the phone with Technical Support numerous times and they don't seem to have an answer to this question, so I thought I would see if anyone else has experienced this.  And before anyone suggests this, technical support's answer has been to pull the plug on the box to reset it and this has not worked.
The issue is with the "Messages" portion of the "Menu" screen.  I know Verizon does not offer a light on your STB to let you know you have a message.  Instead, you are supposed to be able to go into the Menu screen and see the word "NEW" next to "Messages" along with the picture of an envelope to let you know you have a new message.
For whatever reason, I don't get either of these indicators.  I never thought I had a message until I was at a friend's house and they went into their Menu and they had "NEW" next to their Messages along with the envelope indicator.  I went home and saw that I had about five messages in my Messages box, some of which were very old.
While this is not a huge deal, it still bugs me that Verizon has no answer.  I thought my STB may have an issue, but other than this, they work fine.  (By the way, neither of my STB give me either indicator).
So I was just wondering if anyone else had this issue, and if so, how did you get it fixed?  Did Verizon have to come out and do something, did Technical Support need to do something on their end, or did you need to get new STB?  One time Technical Support tried to tell me that it may be an issue with Fios in my area, but that theory was shot down when I went to my friend's house.  I have never gotten either indicator, and I have had Fios for almost one year.
I would appreciate any information you have.  Thanks.

    Hi MiMeQu,
The indicator in the menu and the visual  indicator on the front of the stb should both alert you of messages.
    emphasis added in quote
It would be nice if the Verizon employees had the correct information when posting here.  The indicator light hsa never been operational since I got TV service 3 1/2 years ago (as Matcarl said).  The reason given by Verizon was "It confused too many users when the light came on and created excess calls to the FSC".
As for the envelope in the menu, mine used to work but also stopped working on my DVR (7216) about a month ago.  To confuse matters my 2500s (2 of them) still show the envelope when there is a message.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

    Hi Cchoe,
I see that you are experiencing an issue with iTunes after an update. It sounds like this issue could be related to third-party software interactions with iTunes. Here is an article that will help you troubleshoot:

  • Anyone else not able to open avi's with quicktime after downloading Mountain Lion??

I have an intel iMac with QuickTime Player (Version 10.2) and no .avi that I have tried to open up (that I have aquired SINCE upgrading to OSX Mountain Lion) will play.  All my old .avi movies will work but no new ones.  Anyone else having these issues?

    Anyone else having these issues?
My system generally works the same now as it did before the upgrade as far as AVI files are concerned—i.e., some "supported" files play in the QT X Player and all "supported" files play in the QT 7 Player.
All my old .avi movies will work but no new ones.
Since AVI is a file type, the real question here is whether or not both old and new files contain the same compression formats and if different, whether or not the non-playing compression formats are supported by by your codec component configuration and in the AVI file type. To test the possibility that certain codecs are no longer compatible with QT X v10.2 in the AVI container, try playing the problem files in the QT 7 v7.6.6 player app.

  • App updates not going after updating

    Does anyone else have this?
I've had it 3 times now (both in iTunes and on the iPhone)
It says I have an app update, so I update the app. But then it STILL says I have the same app update to do and dont know how to get rid of the (1) that hovers on the app.

I also have the same problem. It started earlier this week. It's always the most recently updated app that gets 'stuck' and iTunes thinks that it needs to download an update even though the update has already been downloaded and installed. Yesterday it listed an update for 'Trip Advisor' even though I had already downloaded and installed the update. This morning the same update was still showing. However, when I clicked 'check for updates', iTunes found other apps that required an update. It downloaded those and then 'Trip Advisor' disappeared from the list of updates and instead now the latest app to be updated is now stuck in 'update available' mode. Very frustrating. I have tried completely deleting the impacted apps and then re-downloading. Doesn't help.
I'm hoping this is a bug on the iTunes store and that they fix it soon. I'm using the UK iTunes store.
    Regards,
    Stuart

  • Anyone else not able to log in?

Can't seem to login to my iTunes account, which keeps me from finishing the download of the movie I was renting. Grrrrrr!
Anyone else having trouble authenticating? I'm getting a "network connection timed out" error, which makes no sense since I'm obviously connected (I connected here).

    I got mine working.
All I had to do was Log out, quit, re-open and log in. I was so busy trying to log in and getting an error, I didn't even notice that it thought I was already logged in and having problems.
    Hope it works for you.

  • Is anyone else not happy that they took the e-mail reminders out of the iCal program on Mavericks

I find now that I upgraded to Mavericks, I need to put my schedule in two places. One in iCal and one in reminders. I would rather do it in one place. Does anyone else find this a step backward? I think they should sync reminders to iCal so once you put it in Remiders it appear in iCal.

  • Has anyone else not got an email confirmation of their iPhone order

I preordered the iPhone 5 last night although I haven't received an email confirmation of my order. I talked to an online associate who said my order had gone through. Also, I checked the order status of it and it says that it is being processed and expected to ship next Friday. I'm just waiting for my email receipt but I haven't received one. Anyone else having this problem?

  • Is anyone else not receiving their emails?

I haven't received a single email in the last 48 hrs, which is really unusual considering all the spam we get.  Is anyone else having this problem?  I know it isn't a connection problem, I'm able to pull up my account on a different computer and still no results.

What happens if you send a test email to yourself? Does it send? Do you receive it? Is the problem happening with their Xfinity Connect webmail, an email program, or an app on a mobile device?
Check your "Email Safe List" setting under Users & Preferences / (username) / Email Settings at https://customer.xfinity.com/Secure/UserSettings. This option sometimes gets turned on when it should be off. If you can't find the "Email Safe List" setting you'll need to log in with the Primary user ID.
