Anyone else seeing high failure rates with Meraki MR16?
I'm at a small college, with about 110 APs across about 20 buildings. We'd filled up our aging WCS/WLC 4400 wifi system, and so in January replaced it with Cisco/Meraki. We ordered our equipment in late December, and installed during our Winter break. Thus, our first new APs came live about Jan 10th. We started by expanding our wifi coverage into four dorms, and then swapped out the 75 Cisco APs from our old system.
I had two MR16s fail withn the first couple weeks. Got an email report that they were offline, and on investigation found that they had only the Power LED lit orange. No response at all to the reset button, and no sign that they are attempting to boot (No console port on the MR16, but it doesn't seem to boot enough to give any error signal via the LEDs.)
Since then I've had four more failures, for a total of six out of 105 APs deployed. (I still have a few in boxes to go spots where I need to pull cable first). None of these were DOA, they all came up just fine, and failed after a week or a few weeks of operation.
I'm assuming that we just got a bad production run or something, but have no idea how wide scale an issue it might be. So, please let me know if you've seen a failure rate above, say, 1% on Meraki APs.
Conversly , if you got a bunch of MR16s in December 2013 or Jan 2014, and they are all working just fine, let me know that, also.
Thanks,
Steve Bohrer
I got an email from a tech who had been involved on my latest ticket about an AP failure:
"I've scheduled the software upgrade for your next maintenance window on Wed 11th June at 6am. Alongside the fix for the issue contributing to MR16 failures the following enhancements are included:
New VLAN debugging tools to help detect VLAN configuration problems
Distributed layer 3 roaming (no concentrator appliance required)
802.11k (radio resource management) and 802.11r (fast BSS transition) wireless protocols
Hotspot 2.0/802.11u wireless protocols
Enhanced stability and performance improvements"
He also suggested that I could push it out sooner by logging into dashboard.meraki.com and then going to the Configure > Network-wide settings page. On that page, in the "Firmware upgrades" section was the date the tech mentioned, but also the options to "Reschedule the upgrade" and to "Perform the upgrade now". I scheduled it for early the next Saturday morning.
(These options are usually greyed-out if your firmware is up-to-date. The page also notes when you last did an upgrade; however, I don't know if there's anything that shows the firmware version you are running.)
I asked the tech who sent the above for more details about "the fix for the issue contributing to MR16 failures" but he says it is not public information.

Anyone else seeing a sudden uptick in SPAM making it through their Ironports?
Quick question:
We updated our C170 to 8.5.6-092 last week, and since then we've seen a massive increase in SPAM making it through our Ironport undetected.
I've read some updates here re: SBRS and repengine issues after an 8.5.6-092 update, and have investigated these (both are OK) but nonetheless I am curious if others are seeing the same thing.
What I'd like to know is if these are just a new spam campaign that is making it through the Ironport filters, or if we have an actual technical issue after the 8.5.6-092 upgrade that I'm missing.
Current status:

In general, we're seeing spam with the following characteristics:
1) many originate from, or contain links to, .link domains
2) SBRS on these are clear (-1, -2) and gets a pass on the SBRS check
3) Sample subjects:
SENDER: [email protected]
SUBJECT: Exclusive: Enrollment Plans from Blue-Cross, Humana, and AARP.
SENDER: [email protected]
SUBJECT: Re: Someone has run-a-background scan on you. See-your results #190860649

SUBJECT: Alert:Someone ran your background-scan. Read the results #1609820.01

SUBJECT: Ford Cuts Prices to Make Quotas.
SENDER: [email protected]
SUBJECT: Website May Expose Your Arrest Records. (see details)
SENDER: [email protected]
SUBJECT: Re: Your background-report may have been viewed on 10/03/14
4) Furthermore, many contain .link URL's in the content, and the newly added URLscanning seems to be giving these a total pass, too.
Some samples: http://signupnow.growingmedicareprovider.link , http://detailshere.largelycarsavings.link etc.
We're playing wack-a-mole with individual rules for subjects and .link domains, i.e. to flag and quarantine these as they come in, but I'd like to know if anyone else seeing this, or just me?
-bHello Bryan,
Ideally for us to diagnose if there is a possible fault in your IronPort or with misconfiguration we would need you configuration file, complete message tracking information and also the actual samples which are passing the device.
Thus i would like to recommend you to open a Cisco TAC case with us so we can be of assistance.
In terms of the information provided (there maybe some other variables to consider as well).
I would suggest firstly running this command on your device if not already done.
CLI > updatenow force
Let the systems update all services again.
Continue to monitor.
These server IPs if they continue to send such emails their IP's will hit a blacklist.
However at this point, there are too many variables in place that can affect the scanning of these emails and reasons why they're passing.
EDIT:
8.5.6-092 revision corrects the SBRS connection that was witnessed in -074 as per the release notes.

Full screen playback in PE9 garbled - anyone else see this?
I mentioned this in a general post but I'll make it a specific question now -
When I click on the "full screen" button near the top right of the interface, full screen playback has a corrupted area which corresponds with where the timescale is on the normal interface. Sometimes the playback cursor "breaks through" as a black vertical line too.
Does anyone else see this?
I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed. Windows XP Pro SP3 Q9300 quad core PC 2GB memory.
Thanks for any observations. It's very obvious if you do have the problem - a wide strip of the video (horizontal, matching the timescale hidden beneath the full screen display) gets shifted sideways somewhat (flickering on and off), so that any vertical object in the footage gets displaced sideways at that point in an obvious juddering fashion. I tried to do a screen grab but simply doing that makes the problem change - it is more evident when the footage is running than when frozen.
Anyway, adjusting the Windows Display Properties "hardware acceleration" slider, moving it to the left till it is set to the point where the message beneath reads "Disable all DirectDraw and Direct3D acceleraions. Use this setting to correct severe problems with DirectX accelerated applications" seems to fix the problem.
Graphics card is a GeForce 8600 GT, in case that's relevant.
At least I know how to work around the problem. Let's see if others come across the same problem in due course. Maybe it's just a local issue. -
I am seeing Item Not Available in the U.S. store for iTunes music on the iPhone 6Plus. Is anyone else seeing this?
The other sections of the iTunes store seem to have errors as well.I've seen a couple of other threads in the last 10 minutes posting about problem with the store, both have now replied saying that it's working again for them - you could give it another go and see if it's now ok for you

Anyone else seeing iBooks 1.1 as flakey?
Loaded 68 PDFs into iTunes (Books)
Devices iPad Books Sync Books - Selected Books {check}
Books - All selected
Sync with iPad
No books, no PDF button at top of iBooks App
iTunes/iPad shows 2.28GB of Books
restart iBooks
restart iPad
Takes several Syncs before the books and PDFs so up in iBooks.
Also the Bookshelf for some reason always sorts in reverse alphabet?
Anyone else seeing this.
Also had a few probs with PDFS that Preview opens fine but iBooks just displays as blank pages.
CuriousYes, I had to do the exact same thing to get my PDFs to show up. iTunes said they were on the iPad, sync'd two-three times, restarted iBooks 2-3 times and then finally the PDFs tab showed up. Really bizarre! I'm just glad to have PDF support on the iPad but hope this will be fixed soon!

My ipad mini display, including letters/words, was crystal clear until the last software upgrade. Now everything is fuzzy and less clear. I'm reading many complaints about this on the Internet forums. Since I read a lot of books on my ipad , this is particularly irritating. Anyone else seeing this issue?
Hi Fitz,
Welcome to the Support Communities!
I found adjusting the size, boldness and contrast settings on the iPad mini were very helpful.
Here is a link to the information in the iPad User Guide on page 112:
manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1595/en_US/ipad_user_guide.pdf
Large, bold, and high-contrast text
Display larger text in apps such as Calendar, Contacts, Mail, Messages, and Notes. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Larger Type, where you can turn on Larger Dynamic Type and adjust the font size.
Display bolder text for items on iPad. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility and turn on Bold Text.
Increase the contrast of text where possible. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility and turn on Increase Contrast.
I hope this information helps ....
Have a great day!

Colorpicker behavior: anyone else see this?
I'm just sampling what should be straight grey, and I get much more saturated samples than should possibly be represented in the image.
I'm seeing this behavior in Photoshop CS5, ATI 5700 video card, latest drivers, Win XP Pro SP3. I see this with or without OGL acceleration. I see this with the modal eyedropper, or with the selected eyedropper tool. Anyone else see this?I tried to duplicate just what you did. It doesn't paint any color for me - the picked colors just paint shades of gray.
I noticed that your brush doesn't paint all the way to the edges. Specifically, it looks as though you're getting an "all or nothing" coloration, and the size of your brush "footprint" is varying during painting... Is this some kind of brush dynamic at work? I don't use a tablet myself.
Something's definitely acting funny there, and I'd say it could be in the brush settings or behavior of the brush rather than the picker (or both).
I have an ATI 4670 by the way, on 10.11 Catalyst.

Hey, does anyone else see that Safari is REALLY slow today?
Say, does anyone else see that Safari is REALLY slow today?
Jonathan...
No problem with Safari here.
Empty your Safari cache and try resetting Safari.
Not enough free space on the startup disk can slow the system down including browsers.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.

Aperture and DNG. Anyone else seeing this?
I shoot a lot of RAW images and some of them on a camera that is not currently supported by Aperture (Panasonic DMC FZ8). When I convert those RAW images to DNG, Aperture displays them perfectly in the import preview. When I import them to a project, Aperture displays them for a few seconds. Then they disappear only to be replaced by the usual blank red image placeholder and the message "Unsupported Image Format". If the program can display these images for 5 or 10 seconds why not permanently?
Anyone else seeing this? If so is there a way to manage these images in Aperture? I like the program, but it's difficult using one app for RAW images and another for the rest. Any news (rumors) as to when Apple may be updating the supported camera list?
Thanks
JoeAperture only supports DNG from cameras that it supports the RAW file from, so your Panasonic DNGs are not supported. What you are seeing is simply the embedded JPEG that flicks on until Aperture realizes it is not a supported file.

Anyone else seeing better-than-ever speeds?
I was reconfiguring an old Win XP laptop this evening and when I was about done I ran a test on speedtest.net to see how the configuration was performing. I was surprised to see better than ever download speeds. I ran the same test on my Win 7 desktop machine and got the same results and then almost exactly the same numbers on the FiOS speedtest.
Speeds were: 43.12 Mb/s down; 31.96 Mb/s up.
I'm paying for 35/20. I've always seen better than 20 mb/s up but my downstream has always been consonantly right at 35 mb/s. I'm sure not complaining, but I'm curious. Is anyone else seeing this spike in downstream? And can anyone speculate what might be behind it?
edit: By way of a further test I just download a 699 MB Ubuntu distro file. The download ran under 2 minutes at a rock solid and steady 5.3 MB/s. Whew. I like it.Yes I was wondering about this too. i am getting over 30mbps download on my 25/25 connection. Good job verizon, you guys are looking like a pretty cool company now.

All v8 files saved from Illustrator CC seem to be corrupt - anyone else see this?
Hi There,
I've tried searching for this but couldn't find anything. I'm trying to import an illustrator file into Cinema4D which requires me to save a v8 eps - but when I try to import, nothing happens.
At first I hought it was a C4D issue but if I:
Create a new Illustrator file in CC
Export v8 eps
Try to open the newly created v8 eps in Illustrator CC
Then I see the following error:
"Can't open the Illustration. The illustration contains an illegal operand. Offending operator: {eps_metadata_stream} Context: ZA"
I've tried the following steps to reproduce the issue on two different Macs (10.8.4 and 10.8.5) and see the same error each time:
Create a new blank file (print intent)
Create a text box and type some text
Convert all text to paths
Save as Illustrator v8
Does anyone else see this issue in Illustrator CC?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
BenI'm having this same issue.
Sadly HDave387's fix doesn't work for me. I have Universal Type client instead.
What does seem to work though is "Save as Copy". For some reason that's perfectly fine, but "Save As" throws out an error when trying to reopen the v8 .eps. -
Is anyone else seeing this noticeable slow down?
Ever since the IOS 6 , at least since then, everything slows down and nothing is wrong, just nothing is any where near as fast as it used to be... Other friends who have macs also say the same....
Is there a fix coming or something to restore thiings back to normal.Allan,
Just about everything...The internet is slow and I have a very fast FIOS connection 25 up and down....
You click on something, i.e. a bookmark and it takes a while for it to do anything...Dock items seem to react slower to open, it is like it thinking about it before anything happens....
Not sure how to describe it, but several friends have said the exact same thing...even on our Ipads...
Do you see nothing slower?
