Anyone elses sync cable coming apart near the connectors?

I have had my iphone for about 6 months. The cord generally does not travel with me so doesn't get out through a lot of stress etc on the ends. It just sits on my desk waiting for me to charge it.
The end near the USB connector is coming off (the insulation) and I see bare silver colored wires.
Now I easily have access to some electrical tape (white even), but is anyone else seeing this happen? None of my other USB cables ( which I can say are abused way more than this poor cable have this problem).

  • Refurbished MacBook Pro, coming apart at the front.

    Hello,
I recently purchased a refurbished MacBook Pro (the 2.0ghz 256mb VRAM model) which I received on Thursday. I'll start off by saying this is an awesome machine, the whine is essentially non-existant, the screen is perfect, and the heat seems to be just fine.
However the front faceplate (for lack of a better term) is seperating from the top part and the grey plastic bezel, as well the front latch button is very scratched up. It looks like it was a pretty poor repair job, but it's impossble to tell if it was Apple that messed it up, or if it was the previous owner.
Anyways, I was wondering if this was terms to be sent back in for repair? I understand that it's a reconditioned product, and I'd be fine with it having minor nick's and scratches on the outer case (which this one doesn't, aside form the front issue, I think everyone would think it was brand new).
If anyone has any input, or experience with requesting a return of a refurb, please respond. Thanks.
I still strongly believe that the reconditioned MBPro's are an awesome option for people to look into, especially those debating between the MB and the MBP, or those just looking to save some $$$.

The scratches you may have to live with, because it's
a refurbished product. What exactly is coming apart?
On my (non-refurbished) MBP, the front of the case
above the sleep light very slightly bulges out. That
seems to be nothing to worry about, just a slight a
fit-and-finish problem that won't get worse.
If, however, the top case is vertically coming apart
from the bottom, you should call AppleCare. Then the
MBP has not been put back together properly.
Thanks for the reply Tim. Yes it does bulge out at the front right above the latch, but it sticks out vertically as well so whenever I put some pressure on it, lik using the track pad for example, it makes a bad sqeaking noise.
I'll give AppleCare a call today and see what they can do about it.

  • IPhone charger coming apart at the phone end

Is there a recal on the iPhone charger available?  Mine is coming apart at the end that goes into the phone.  The insulation is separating from the plug.  Anyonw else seeing this?

When a battery-operated device shows suspicious warping or bulging, and it has never been dropped or mishandled, this could be a sign of a battery defect. Other signs, like excessive heat or poor battery life, are commonly seen in conjunction with warping. This is a potentially dangerous problem and the device should be opened and the battery removed in order to determine the cause.
It is important that you bring this to the attention of the device manufacturer. Li-polymer batteries are somewhat less susceptible to catastrophic failure than older Li-ion technology, but the very nature of battery technology means that they are still extremely high energy density devices.

  • IPHONE 3G-end of charging cable coming apart, free replacement?

    Hi All!
Got new iphone 3G this past April thru Best Buy. I noticed the end of my charging cable that plugs into the phone is coming apart. Phone still charges but the white cording is exposing the silver wires at the part that is connecting my charging conector for my phone to the cord. Can I go to best buy and get a new one? Is that covered under the 1 year warranty??
    Thanks much!!!

You arent alone here, I have both sides of the USB taped up because the silver wires are becoming exposed.
Thanks for the idea, i will exchange this!

  • Apple's cords turning yellow near the connectors, is this dangerous?

  • Nano coming apart at the seams, literally!

The top part of my Ipod (where the "hold" switch is) has started to come off from the rest of the Ipod. Is there some simple fix for this? I was told to just use glue to re-attach it, but it doesn't seem very good to put glue near an open part of my ipod. Please help!

Welcome to Apple Forums. I strongly suggest you bring this to an Apple Store and have them fix it. It's quite dangerous to do this by yourself.

  • External Superdrive USB cable coming apart from drive-Manufacturing Defect?

My drive is a little over a year old. SO i guess it does not fall under the limited warranty. But i have hardly used the thing. Just to install software, and that is pretty much it. Sits in the box used maybe 5 times a year.
I just used it today to install Snow and noticed that the USB cable that sticks out of the back of the drive has ripped/cracked/tore/etc from the support rubber. Looks like the cable cover they used is to hard of a plastic and the part that connects with the larger part of the cord before going into the drive cracked and then tore when the cable was bent/moved. Now i can see the metal jacket that covers the wires under the plastic.
Think if i bring it back to the apple store they will give me a new one or replace the wire. If you ask me it is a manufacturing defect. Like i said the drive is essentially Brand new condition. I have several macs and have been using them for many years. I know the difference between abuse and manufacturing defects.
    What do you guys think?
    Thanks

I, too, am having the Superdrive cracked-cable problem. Bought my Air and Superdrive 7/14/09, and I've probably used the Superdrive less than 10 times. Just noticed the cracking problem of the cable yesterday and plan to try to return it to my campus bookstore (where I bought it) tomorrow. I have AppleCare. I'm surprised about the poor quality of this cable. Very un-Apple-like. I should also add I've very careful in how I've stored the drive (I don't carry it around in my case), taking care to NOT force the cable to bend too much where it meets the drive. Still, all the outer white shielding is cracked through to the bare wire.
I DO hope that they eventually replace this with a retractable cable, as others on these discussions boards and elsewhere have hoped for. It would most-likely solve this problem (while, hopefully, not inducing a new one!).

  • IPhone coming apart at the seams

Picked up my iPhone on launch day. To my eyes, it looks - and feels - as though the seams on my iPhone are warping. The chrome border/screen seem to be lifting off of the unit and the metal backing has expanded on one side. You can actually see movement back and forth if you press down where the chrome/screen has begun to separate from the unit.
It's never been dropped, mishandled, etc.
I've already gone to the genius bar once, and they told me that I should wait and see if it gets worse, and that they'd know more about what kinds of issues warrant replacement in due time, etc.
It's been a few weeks since then, and since it is still within 30 days and I could conceivably get an in store replacement, I am really itching to head back to the store. I do feel that the screen separation has gotten worse, and this just really irks me. My $600 iPhone had better be cosmetically perfect. More importantly, this issue seems systemic (on my phone), and I don't want to wait for it to become ruined.
Some are of the right side, where the metal backing has expanded. Some are of the left side, where the metal backing is sealing perfectly, and some are off the top-left side, where the screen is lifting up.
I'd appreciate your candor. Let me know what you think.
    Thanks!

  • Usb cable falling apart, usb cable falling apart

usb cable falling apart near the connection that goes into the handset.

I have the same issue. I have bought 6 USB to Lightning cables (all made by Apple), two have already failed. The two cables failed right where the wire goes into the lightning connection block. This has to be a design issue or a quality control failure. The part that really stings is I bought these when they first came out for $40.00 each. This is utterly unheard of when it comes to industry standard cables like mini or micro-USB. Hopefully some third party manufacturer will come out with a high quality version of the lightning cable.

  • Sync cable

    Hello all,
I have a 60GB ipod and the just got the AV Connection Kit. I love the Docking station. The only problem with the docking station is the sync cable. I do not leave my PC on 24-7 so to charge the Ipod I have to unplug the USB cable from the PC and plug it into the power adapter. Then when the PC is on I have to unplug the cable from the power adapter back to the PC. My question is does apple make a sync cable that has two USB connectors? One for syncing and one for power. This way if the PC is off the ipod can still charge. Thanks

Just a suggestion, could you not leave the USB cable that came with the AV kit plugged into the A/C adapter and the USB cable that came with the iPod plugged into your PC.
No need to purchase another cable even if one was available

  • Poorly made iPhone USB sync cable

Here I sit with 3 USB cables acquired by 3 different iPhone 3G purchases and all of them are tearing near the connectors. My girlfriend and I aren't rough with our stuff and I never had this problem with any of my iPod dating back to generation 1.
Anybody else noticing a degrading quality in the USB cables?
    What is Apple's replacement policy?

FYI - you don't need to drive 40 miles to an Apple store. You can handle everything over the phone by calling AppleCare at (800) 694-7466. AppleCare will ship a replacement USB cable to your home or where you work - someone will need to sign for it, and you will return the defective cable in the same box that Apple ships the exchange to you.

  • Screen flicker on 2011 21.5 iMac after SSD install. V-sync cable?

I've had my 2011 21.5 iMac for going on a year now; I decided to spruce things up by installing an SSD. I followed this very helpful video tutorial and all seemed well, but shortly after booting up I noticed a slight occasional flicker of the screen.
I found this video that shows the issue and some Google searching would seem to suggest there's an issue with my V-sync cable.
I opened the iMac back up and checked the cable and could find nothing apparently wrong with it, although I do remember it initially taking quite some time to get free.
So is the V-sync cable the culprit and would a new cable remedy this issue or is it possibly something else?

I had seen that, I just wish I could find out the length so I can order one if required. I don't want my mac in pieces when I have to take a trip to a pc shop to get a sata cable.  Any ideas on the retaining latches?
Just for info with all the tools/parts and 128gb Samsung 830 this has cost £115.
The majority of this was through amazon uk and the sata power cable part number 922-6862 from an apple repair supplier.
I intend to place the drive beneath the optical drive although I have been playing around with the idea of a slight mod and drilling the back of the case enough to fit the cables through and have the drive external. This would allow me to disconnect the drive Incase of issues or if I decide to upgrade at a later date.
