Anyone ever hook up zen micro without a battery using an external power supp

Just wondering if it's possible. I guess you need to know the pinouts for the 4 contacts (I've got the 6GB version without video).
What kind of specs would you need on the power supply?
Hope somone has some info, Thanks

First, check if there's a pinout and it says "DC in 5V" or something like that. If you see it, then you just localized you power adapter's jack.
For the power adapter, you can buy the ZEN Power Adapter, which is expensi've, but, for my personal experience, I bought a generic adapter and saved me 30$, the specs of the Power Adapter is 5V and 2,4 A (EQUAL OR BELOW 2,4 A)

  • Use a Zen Micro without the batt

hello, i would like to know if there is any way to use a zen micro without the battery inserted via usb cable, because i have a 6gb micro that i don't use, the battery died, and i would like to connect it to my amplifier, but all the micros i have came without the power adapter, wich would work. My computer's motherboard suplies power trhough usb even when the pc is off, so i woudn't even had to turn it on to hear music, but, unfortunely, micro's don't work without battery when plugged to the usb cord, right?. i like to know if i can tweak something in the micro to do this...please help me...

It remembers as long as it has power. This kind of thing has been discussed before, but not in this situation, but it's still the same....
If you unplug your Micro before it's gone into it's deep sleep slumber mode, then it will forget, and start back from it's LAST deep sleep mode. However, if you let it go into the deep sleep mode, then you can unplug it, and put your battery into it, and it will be at the same point it was when you just turned it off.
(by the way, not to thread jack, but this is my 50st post. Wow).

  • Zen Micro Photo USB & Battery quest

I bought a zen micro when they first came out about 2-3 years ago. Well the dreaded headphone jack issue has finally gotten to me. So I just bought a zen micro photo. Was on sale here for $00 so I figured y not buy it! My question is this:?) the usb cable that comes with the photo is alot shorter than the regualr zen micro. Can I use the regular zen micros usb cable to transfer songs?2) I have 2 batteries for the regular micro. Would those work with the photo??

    Hi,
Yes, they both have the same mini USB connection so the cable is the same type.
As far as the battery goes, it would work, but the Zen Micro battery is not as powerful so the battery life will not be as long.

  • I'm confused..how do I charge a Zen Micro without a charg

So after returning my headphone-jack defecti've Micro to the company, I decided to purchase one from Best Buy. But since those don't come with accesories, I don't get a charger. So how the heck am I supposed to charge my Micro without one? How does the battery charge? Does it charge when I'm connected to the computer? Or is it absolutely necessary to buy a separate charger? This might sound like a stupid question, but since I only had my other one for a day and it had the charger, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do when my battery dies?

When I recharge my Micro... it takes about 3 hours on the USB. It doesn't say docked, but it may, depending on what mode you were in(syncing). The blue light pulses and after 5 minutes(or whatever you have selected in the setup menu)the player shuts down. Charging continues until the blue light stops pulsing. Wait 30 more minutes after the blue light stops, because the Micro receives a trickle charge to completely top up the battery. I dont turn off my computer ever, but I do put it into "hibernate", or "stand-by" mode. The Micro continues to charge in this mode.

  • Purchased Zen Micro without Installation

I just bought a used Zen Micro 5gb from a friend who didn't have the original installation CD or instructions. I believe I can download everything from Creative's website, but can someone please tell me what the latest and best driver, firmware, and media application are? And what is the proper installation process: do I install the driver first or the application; when should I upgrade the firmware; etc?
    Thank you in advance.

I hope this helps you out.
Steps to installing the Zen Micro v.x & 2.x in Windows XP.
Note: If you want to do a clean install. Uninstall everything that is related to the ZM. Including the driver, Creative Mediasource, and Zen Micro Media Explorer.
Note: You can find all of these files on the Creative Website. Click on the Support link and start from there. You do not need your Installation CD anymore.
Note: You must have Windows Media Player 0 in order to flash to 2.x firmware and if you are going to use MTP, playsforsure, or music subscription services.
Note: If you are NOT using MTP, playsforsure, or music subscription services, you do not need to install WMP0, and #5 and #6.
Note: When flashing the firmware, follow the directions and do not use the computer and the Micro. Let it finish before you start using the computer and the Micro.
Note: When the program installs and tells you to restart, do so. Do not try to install something else afterwards. It's better that way.

  • Keeping zen micro backlight on when using the car charg

Is there any way to keep the backlight on, when using the car charger. I have my zen micro hooked up the my car stereo. It would be nice to be able to see the screen at night. The lights for the buttons stay lit, but not for the screen.

RMSkater: There's no "always on" setting. This is for good reason I think as the type of light Creative use will wear out with a few thousand hours of use, which will get eaten up relati'vely quickly if "always on". At least I believe that's what Creative have said in the past.

  • Pick up metal objects with zen micro headphones? battery life with firmware 1.02

    hey all
just purchased my zen micro couple days ago.
the package we got here in downunder is satifying. included were the wired remote and also the stand/case with belt clip. these were the only reasons that made me choose this over the ipod mini.
this has not occurred to me until tonight, but the headphones seems to act as magnets and were stuck to each other as the phones were dangling
i never noticed this happening with other phones
also the battery life of my zen was horrendous. its lasted 5 hrs with eq and smart volume on. the zen was on hold the whole time as the actions were controlled by the wired remote.
this was with the firmware that was shipped with the player .0.03 i believe
have just updated the firmware now, and will be testing the battery life to see if the problem is rectified.
if not, then an exhange for an ipod is inevitable.

Yep, SV is a battery killer, around a 50% drop in life has been meaured and the effect is known to be pretty negligible.
And as others have said, them headphones have magnets in, like pretty much any speaker

  • Zen Micro - Can it be used in the ca

    Hello,
I have a Zen Micro and wondered if there is any way that it can be used through a conventional car cd player (as the Ipod can).
    Any ideas ?
    Cheers.

Many car stereos have a line in. If that is available then use that. If not, then you can get an fm transmitter that plugs into the player, and use your car radio to receive the signal. If there is a tape player, then you can use a cassette adapter to transfer the signal from the player to the car tape player. These are the same methods that would be used with an ipod.

  • When I charge my zen micro it says battery low and stays on that scr

  • ZEN Micro hang on battery cha

My just-out-of-the-box ZEN Micron player worked OK when I inserted the minimally charged new battery from the box, but after I connected it to the charger, and the battery charged up, the player froze, i.e. no touchpad or other inputs would work, it wouldn't even shut down with the power switch, and stayed that way until the idle-OFF kicked in, then it re-started and was still be frozen. Only after I removed the back, took out the battery and replaced it, did the player respond to controls again. Creative, please help on this. Thank You!

  • Zen Micro -- Where can i use

I was wondering if the Zen Micro worked well when say snowboarding or riding a bike?

    Bennetcq,
Jogging is definitely a bad idea due to the continual up/down motion, whereas I think the main risk when snowboarding/bike riding would be the potential for a fall.
If you snowboard down moguls or are doing rough trail riding I wouldn't suggest taking it along. If you are just riding on a smooth street or snowboarding down a fast trail (read: not jumping...etc) then the chance of damage is lower. Personally I would not take a HDD based player on either of these due to the fact that damage by a fall or heavy vibrations would not be covered under the warranty. This is more of the territory for flash based player like a MuVo 2 Cross Trainer or a MuVo Micro N200.

  • Do the new Zen Micros have the battery probl

I was going to buy a zen micro and I was wondering if that problem was fixed on the newer models/newer lines?

Well if you wait a few days/weeks/months then the battery issue will be fixed with a firmware update that Creative will release.

  • Nwe Zen Micro, problems with battery cha

Brand new user, bought 2 Zen Micro Photo's for my daughters for Christmas. I read the postings on battery situations, but wanted to get a clearer answer to my problem.
Our Zen's will charge when plugged in to my computer at work, Windows XP professional 5., this is where I have the Creative Software downloaded and have done my setup, ripping and downloading. Problem is, I can not ge them to charge on my computer at home, the lightning bolt flashes, but the battery bars do not increase.
How long does it need to charge to be fully charged? I understand the lightning bolt changes to something else when fully charged?
Do you have to have the software loaded to charge it's
How long should the battery last after being fully charged? They are depleting in about 4 hours time.
Also, what bit rate do you recommend for song downloads to get maximum usage?

Just to add to the advice so far, make sure the faceplate light is pulsing as well. If not, this is a sign that things are not well.
The first thing to try though is updating both players to at least the ..0 firmware, which includes several charging fixes and features. Specifically the new lock charging, where you lock the player (slide the power switch towards the headphone socket) before connecting to USB. This di'verts all the USB power to charging the player and often solves the issue.

The lightning bolt will change to a plug, if the player is switched on. If the player is turned off the screen will go blank. In either situation the faceplate light will also stop pulsing.
Do you have to have the software loaded to charge it's
No, not if you use lock charging.
You can also put the player in USB mass storage mode, explained in the manual.
How long should the battery last after being fully charged? They are depleting in about 4 hours time.
Totally depends on usage. If you skip tracks a lot, use high bit-rates, upload/download tracks to/from the player, and use the EQ or Smart Volume, then the battery life will be reduced significantly.
Also, what bit rate do you recommend for song downloads to get maximum usage?
The lower the better, but there's a trade-off between the battery life and the resulting audio quality that you might not be happy with. Refer to my battery curves thread to see how much battery you will save.

  • Anyone bought the Creative Zen Micro Case y

    Hi all,
Just wanted to know if anyone can rate the case for the micro that creative put out. Wondering also if the clip is as weak as the one that came with the 5Gb package (slides into cradle). Thanks

Oh man, I got that case and I hate it. When my Micro is in it, the case doesn't firmly close, and I'm afraid that it will pop open and my Micro will get scratched worse than just being carried around in my pocket.
